As one of the great survivors in the modern car market, the Jaguar XJ is a luxury saloon car that personifies the image of Jaguar. Indeed the XJ was the last Jaguar saloon to have the input of the company’s founder, Sir William Lyons. It first entered the British market in 1968, known then as the XJ6, and replaced most of Jaguar’s saloons. Series 2 and Series 3 of the Jaguar XJ were introduced in 1973 and 1979 respectively before a Mark 2, known as the XJ40, entered the market in 1986. Mark 3 debuted in 2003 and was noted by critics for its sharp and agile handling. If you want a classic Jaguar, then the Jaguar XJ is for you.

This is my fifth Jaguar saloon and by far the greenest. 40 mph, low emissions and superb 0-60… and it’s a diesel. Very comfortable even on drives of 400+ miles plus; you know you have a well oiled service organisation for your services when required. Buy this model in the LWB set up and you won’t want anything else. Call me old fashioned with my wood finish but I like quality and lots of it.

I’ve bought my Jaguar Sovereign second hand in 2003. It has given me unfailing performance and maintenance costs have been very low. Urban driving returns approximately 20 miles to the gallon although I have, when steady driving was allowed, managed 30. The car is now 9 years old and still in pristine condition. This was not my first Jaguar. If you have ever fancied a Jaguar, get the best you can afford, you will not regret it. Classy and British!
