A very nice car to drive with plenty of room inside. It looks good, but as with most modern cars it has common faults. The Duel Mass flywheel’s going (most powerful diesels have DMF now), the spring’s snapping, the EGR valve is going, but taking all this in to consideration this is one of the best cars I have had; the 150BHP is nippy and very good on motorways. I would recommend.

Having bought the car 18 months ago whilst it had 23,000 miles on the clock (now 29 k), I have been impressed by its looks, comfort and power. However, in the last 18 months it has spent nearly as much time on the back of a recovery truck as on the road. The 6 speed auto box failed after 26K and its replacement is also on its last legs. Vauxhall know a about these issues but frankly don’t give a damn. The fault appears to be an oil cooler in the radiator allowing water to mix with the transmission fluid hence killing the auto box. Obviously a major design fault. In all other respects the car is excellent.

Needed a second car to cover family duties and motorway commute. I went for a facelift CDTI Design with 44k on the clock. The car is great inside with half leather sports seats, which are great for long trips and give good support. The car is nice to drive and the CDTI engine is a good match for the cars size. On the Motorway the car see’s around 52mpg. Only had the car a month but love it. I had a 2006 Renault Megane estate as my second car before and I hated it. This is far, far better in all respects. Only down side is I had to fit a new alternator after 2k of ownership.

I purchased my ’56 plate Signum from a Vauxhall dealer with @ 11k miles on the clock, and now 3 years later I have done 110,000 miles. It has been a brilliant car, and is a fantastic, effortless motorway cruiser. My version has the 6 spd automatic, and hovering just under 2,000 revs at 80ish mph (where this speed allows of course) makes for a quiet, comfortable cruiser. The on board computer tells me that in the last 14k miles, I have AVERAGED 41.7mpg. OK the bulk of that is on the motorway, but nevertheless very good. Definitley highly rate this vehicle.

I bought my three year old 40,000 mile Signum recently from my local Vauxhall dealer. I was looking for a diesel auto estate so had not looked at the Signum as it is classified as a hatch. My wife found it and sugested that I should take a look. Up until now I am very pleased with it. It is a very smooth, comfortable ride on motorways or A roads; get onto more bumpy surfaces then it is not so smooth, probably due to the low profile tyres. I am getting between 40 and 45 mpg which, for a fairly large car. I don’t think is too bad, although the dealer told me that it had a new engine due to it being driven through a flood six months ago, so fuel consumption should come down as the engine runs in a bit more. It is a lot of car for not a vast amount of money (compared to Audi, BMW, Mercedes etc...) and you are unlikely to find yourself parked next to another one at the supermarket on a Saturday morning. In three weeks I have only seen two others.

Needed an Auto and bought this very cheap (under 5K)in auctions with 65K on clock. Felt and looked like a new car.The Design in 2006 has Sports suspension on 17" wheels. This car just cant cope with bumps around town or A roads and they unsettle the whole car. It does corner very flat though with no roll. The 1/2 leather seats seem more spacious and comfortable than a vectra Sri I tested and the ride smoother and less bumpy. Its quite hushed up front with all the noise coming from the rear. No rear air vents for passengers is surprising as the Vectra has them?on this spec. The sliding rear seats give limousine leg room but the boot is the equivalent of an Audi A4 estate (compact). Window lift buttons are a fiddle and you cant rest arm on drivers door arm rest as it slopes? I still hate the electronic indicator stalk. The auto box is easy to confuse at times -when you try to accelerate hard it starts changing down and actually slows you up. The tiptronic function is counter intuitive so is just left in Auto. Only 25 mpg general driving (but its always trying to rev at 2400) but 34mpg at 75ish on motorway (still revving at 2400 in 5th). Overall a pretty good car but wish I had the diesel for the economy.

Bought this second hand whilst looking in vain for a Ford Mondeo Estate, does the same job as far as I can see, but looks a lot more stylish I think. For a diesel it flys and cornering and ride are nice and ’flat’. The dash read out says it does great mpg too. More ’bells and whistles’ than the usual car and the rear seating IS more roomier than the front; wish I could sit there and let someone else drive! I’ve had to replace springs on front and rear offside, but that’s an unknown, previous, history. Also, after intermmitent sudden loss of power and ’choking’ of engine had the air mass unit changed, still does it now and again though, usually after a fuel stop, or being parked uphill(?) I suspect it has two fuel pumps, front and rear(?) and one hesitates, some times. Otherwise a great car so far, after a year or more, roomy, have even camped out in it with the seats flat at the rear, runs the motorways easily and nicely, good round town too, although not a great turning circle.

Having previously owned two Omega’s, the last being an MV6, I decided that I would stick with Vauxhall, but wanted something a bit different. As soon as I got into the Signum for the test drive I realised it was a bit of a tardis, and was much bigger than expected, which is good when 3 of the family are over 6ft. The 2.8 V6 Turbo charged engine kicked into life with enough of a growl to get it noticed, but without drawing any unwanted attention. When you put your foot down you realise that you really do have a wolf in sheep’s clothing. Oh, I nearly forgot to mention, it’s really comfortable too. All in all it’s a really good car with enough room for the family, and enough power for the boy racer that’s hidden in all 40 something men!!

What an amazing motor, the Signum 3.2 v6 elite is roomy and very comfortable. It’s fast and well equipped plus it gives 28/30mpg overall and it looks the dogs b******s. I have owned Jaguar’s, BMW’s and Alpha’s plus a 3.7 Jeep. Would I swap my Signum for one of these? WOULD I HELL!

Having owned old but reliable cars for years I decided it was time to upgrade and opted for the Signum. Everything was fine until it reached 50,000 miles when the duel mass fly wheel went. It cost a small fortune to replace that and the clutch, having not owned a car in the last 30 years that’s ever broke a spring, this one had two replaced for the last MOT. I think I will go back to the old reliable cars.

This car was what I thought was going to be my best yet and at just over three years old I'm beginning to think I may have bought and old Vauxhall Viva or Chevette. At 28000 miles it's had a new timing chain, a new injector module, new rear arms and new rear shocks. It is now booked in to have the rear wheel bearings done and the door seals on the front two doors. I'm glad in a way I'm not paying for the work to be done but its costing me money every time it goes in for work to be done to hire cars for the duration of the work. Warranty people don't pay for hire cars! Anyway, other than all the work and all the money I pay out for hire cars it is a wonderful car to drive, a bit of a fuel drinker around town but on the motorways its a good 40 to 50 mpg at a steady 80 mph, shushhhhhhhh! Did I mention speeding then. Lol. Handles the road very good in all conditions and very roomy inside for all the family. One thing it does miss as a new car and that's the heated front screen.

Having looked for a car with luxury features but not a luxury price tag - I looked at the Signum. I liked its flexible seating, the large (but not estate sized) boot space and the fact it had a nice colour computer with decent (but not amazing) Sat Nav. Everyone who has seen it close up comments on how comfortable it is and it’s a great drive on the motorways. The 150 BHP engine is great and returns between 45-50 MPG and with cheap servicing costs is a good all round package.

I bought my Signum on the basis that I wanted a stylish vehicle providing practical and economic motoring. At 3 months old and with nearly £7000 off the list price this car promised to do all that. This was against all the professional pundits who rated it an odd-ball with mediocre driving appeal. But since most of us have to optimise our choice of car and are not seeking Top Gear approval this car is the best thing I have owned to date. Bearing in mind that Vauxhall with Signum probably began the current vogue of the luxury hatch-back, it has been under -acknowledged, in my opinion. In the turbo diesel mode with ’sports’ lowered suspension it provides a firm and stable ride, which can be pushed hard round country roads but is a great motorway cruiser, giving well above 45mpg to every tank -full. It is well built and gets envious comments from friends who like its quality feel. Its not an estate nor a limo but it is both flexible and roomy, for those who dont need the extremes of either, which lets face it, is an awful lot of us!
