Vauxhall Astra Convertible 1.8 bertone 2004

4 star review

Very nice car. Drive nice to. I have the 1.8 bertone model in sliver. It looks really good with the roof down. +I have my son in the back so loads of space.

Andrew, do you have trouble with the roof leaking etc and do you keep it in the garage during winter months? I have just taken one for test drive 2004 2.2 model and am looking for a bit of advice before I commit - Carol Shorting from Northumberland

Bought this car in December with it just being over 3 years old. Found out to my cost that the roof and boot leaks really badly. Almost a swimming pool on wheels! As it was just outside of Manufacturers Warranty I got hold of Vauxhall HQ to see if there was anything they could do, ie good will gesture. Unfortunately, the young lady I spoke to in the customer relations dept explained that as it was a convertible, the roof seals were only covered for the first 12 months. This is very disappointing that Vauxhall take this attitude, I have since found out that this leaking is common place and badly lets the car down. What makes it worse is the price Vauxhall place on replacement seals as each seal is horrendously priced, you need very, very deep pockets to replace all the roof seals outside of warranty! Vauxhall must be making a mint! Not for the faint hearted, stay well clear unless you want extra swimming lessons as you drive. Additionally, the roof has a habit of sticking whilst half way up then you need to flick one of the motors to make it go up or down apparently this is also a common fault. On speaking with a sales person at the garage, I was informed that due to the problems Vauxhall have had with a hard roof convertible they may be going back to a soft top when the new convertible model comes out so buyer be aware!!

Hi, I am also having problems with my roof. It stopped working a week ago. The roof can not finish closing hence the boot is still open. I contacted Vauxhall who informed me it would cost me about £300 for it to be fixed. I have spoken to a few people that have the similar car and they said it is laced with problems and I heard that if the motor goes on the roof that’s the end of the car and it would cost about £2,000. So all the people that would want to buy a Vauxhall convertible, think again, it’s not a car to buy - Marita Jay from Nottinghamshire

I love my Astra convertible although I agree with Kerry that the visabilty all round is rubbish for a 5’ 4" female which is why as long as the weather is dry I drive with the roof off !!! My Astra also likes its petrol but that’s the price I pay for not being happy driving round in a 1000cc economy car.

I find the astra convertible a nippy car to drive and a pleasure, although being a slender women and average height i do find the seats a bit of a pain being that they are tooo laid back due to being sports seats, it makes it harder for me to have good visibility all round. The sun visors are toooo little also so often i get blinded by the sun on bright days where i have no protection from the visors, infact they are so little it makes me wonder why they bothered putting them their. The car is a very stylish car and wonderful in summer but i do pay the price with visibility and lack of sun visors protection at all times.
