I bought this car when it was 10 month old and saved 10 grand on the retail price. The sheer size puts some 7 seaters to shame. I love it for what it is; OK, you have to rev it to make it shift and there is no turbo performance but it will do everything you ask of it with ease and has a top end of 130mph. I don’t understand why people slag the Vectra off; you try and keep up with me on a bendy road in your people carrier doing 70mph and then you will see that the Vectra Estate isn’t as slow as people think... if you want a boy racer performance buy the 20 litre turbo SRi Estate or the VXR...

I’ve had many, many Vectras as company cars and they are typically swapped after 6 months, so I can’t speak of the long-term reliability of these cars. With that said these are perfect motorway cars and will cruise all day and all night in 6th gear without trouble. On the twisty stuff they start the feel their weight but they still stick well to the road especially with a bit of weight in the boot. They are huge inside and the boot is massive. One thing to note is that the rear legroom is much improved over the hatchback. Helpful if you have teenagers with long legs like me. It feels like a very solid car and the doors close with a reassuring clonk. It’s no sports car but the 120PS engine is powerful enough to keep up with most other cars of this ilk. The 150PS is a bit quicker and does benefit from much greater torque for no more tax. If I was going to buy one 2nd-hand I would wait until the Insignia arrives in late ’08/early ’09 and this will surely drive down the prices of the Vectra.

Excellent to drive and phenominal amount of space. This is a cracking car and better than some MPV’s out there for the room you get. Very comfortable too. First rate family car and comes with a good amount of kit as standard. Good fuel return too. First rate.
