SEAT Alhambra

2010 - The very similar Ford Galaxy, VW Sharan and SEAT Alhambra MPVs all appeared in the mid 1990s. Ford did its own thing in 2006 with an all-new Galaxy, and now VW and SEAT have at last responded with all-new 7-seater models. But is the new Spanish model the poor relation? [...]

Excellent car, reliable and comfy. Great for size of car fuel consumption 40 mpg short journey, early 50’s on runs. Would have given 5 star rating if not for squeaks and rattles.

We had a ’51 reg Alhambra, and were VERY impressed. We traded it in for an ’07, brand new, and I’m not so happy. The interior is not so plush, even though we were told it was a ’top of the range model’ as was our old one. It only has one opening rear window, the other had 2, and the re-designed radio/CD layout etc is very ’plastic-y’ I am EXTREMELY dissapointed with tyre wear. It eats tyres on the front. I have had to replace the front tyres at 10K mile intervals, and the rears at 20K - not good for a vehicle designed to carry large families etc... and probably expected to be used for doing the ’school-run’ etc... I really wish now that we’d gone for the VW transporter based MPV instead, either that or kept our ’51 reg Alhambra.

I’ve owned two Alhambra’s, both very reliable cars. I did 110K in the first, and my current car has 90K on the clock, over a combined total of 6 years. The only complaint I have is some rattles and squeaks but I’d expect this with a large MPV after so long. I’d recommend them, and my 2 litre diesel gets me 50 MPG average.

We all love our ’party bus’. It has been a joy to drive and extremely reliable. It now has 210,000 miles on the clock but is still going strong. Years ago we had a problem with the power steering and this year the electric windows needed attention but in 13 years that’s not too bad. I would thoroughly recommend this vehicle.

Nice SEAT design with good VW engine. There are some good bargains to be had at the moment and it’s worth haggling. This is a very reliable and spacious MPV and suits us down to the ground. Drive wise it’s easy going, although SEAT would have you believe it drives like a sports car - it doesn’t of course, it drives like an MPV but it does have a nice bit of power behind it so it’s certainly not sluggish.

This MPV is absolutely excellent. I test drove several before choosing this one and nothing for me came close. It’s solid, safe and very drivable. My kids love it and so far I can’t find anything to fault it. I would highly recommend you test drive one of these if you’re in the market for an MPV, I don’t think you would be disappointed.
