The unusual Peugeot Expert Tepee may look like it is built for those who like to live under canvas, but it is actually Peugeot’s latest step into the light commercial vehicle market. The Expert Tepee comes in two formats – a standard and long wheelbase body length – and is particularly aimed at professional drivers, especially those who specialise in airport and hotel transport. It could be an economical choice for your business too with three HDi Euro IV turbodiesel engines and two diesel units to choose from. Depending on your purpose for the vehicle, the Peugeot Expert Tepee is available with either two or three rows of seats sitting 5/6 or 8/9.

This taxi almost put me out of business last year. Don’t buy one.

Responses to this review

I totaly agree with you, I have a ef taxi 2.0 hdi and my engine seized on the 27/01/10 and nobody will honour the warranty, Peugeot or Allied, so I’m left with a knackered motor and no money coming in so I will probably soon be out the game - Maxwell Waxman from Lanarkshire

Now on my seventh flywheel (98000MLS) no one at Allied or Peugoet could give a S**T! Very frustrating now having to take my finance company to the ombusman to try and get rid of this vehicle before warranty runs out! -  ANNOYED CABBY from Mid-Lothian (Edinburghshire)

I’m using mine as a taxi.I have 21 years experience of driving taxis and have driven a million miles plus in my lifetime and I’m more than qualified to say this taxi is not the correct tool for the job. It’s like walking into B&Q and explaining to the sales person the task you need to do and instead of walking out with a hammer the guy sells you a saw! It’s not tough enough. I’m at 90000 miles now and the problems have moved on from" trivial" stuff like doors, brakes, anti roll bars, side steps, clutches, fly wheels, etc., to engine problems. I had a tx1 taxi which I put 450000 miles on. I would have to buy 3 e7s to do the same. The tx was built in 1997 the e7 in 08, you would have thought technology may have moved on? Do not buy this car. Although warranties look good they aren’t always what they seem, even in black and white! 80% of my passengers have trouble even shutting the door. very tiresome on a 12 hour shift! Also I have to travel from Edinburgh to Glasgow everytime there is a problem and wander round there 8 hours till fixed, just a nightmare!!

Absolute rubbish. Poor MPG, build is a joke and the car has been in three times for knocking noises which has now resulted in a replacement of the anti roll bar, bushes, links, amongst other items. Also, the rear light has been replaced due to water seepage as well as door traps on 30k... This car was not built for a taxi and will be complaining to cab direct for selling us a poor car with practically no aftercare nor service. All E7 owners shoudl get togther and complain and as far as cab direct are concerned, I will never buy another car from them again.

Well what can you say? 19,800 miles and already a new clutch and flywheel. It’s now going in for a new anti-roll bar and a banging noise from the back. I think that all the peope who bought this vehicle need to get together and go to Peugeot together as going it alone seems to get you nowhere!!

I’ve had numerous problems with this vehicle since buying it from cab direct, who are happy to make repairs under the original warranty but not so keen when you’re looking for repairs to be done under the extented warranty (not worth taking out, a waste of time). I’ve just had the starter motor replaced 2 weeks after having the clutch and flywheel done, not a coincidence. I’m stuck with it and will just have to wait on the next fault.

Mine was purchased as a ex demo vehicle in Oct 2008, at 17000 miles. I’ve just reached 40k and the dual mass flywheel has crumbled. Luckily it’s still under warranty but not the clutch, which they said was two thirds worn. They could have put the clutch back in but it would probably needed replacing as its worn. The clutch cost me just under 300.00 - disgusting, as I have 2 other older eurotaxis coming up to 250,000 and I have only just replaced the clutches. I’ve had problems with the roll bars, like everyone else it seems, and I am feeling now that I have bought a heap of rubbish. I am going to try and get my cash back for the clutch and think I should contact watchdog to investigate the problem as looking at this it seems to be a fault by Peugeot; they are not stepping up to the mark in recalling these faults. They know they are faulty as apparently they have a conversion kit for 300.00 to dump the dual mass flywheel. I need to investigate more. If you know of this problem, if you got anywhere with Peugeot or would support me on contacting watchdog then contact me on email at GOLDINGFEW34DART@AOL.COM. Thank you.

I would be happy to support you with regards watchdog these vehicle are not fit for purpose and attitude of dealers and warranty cover poor to say the least - Stuart Johnston from Lanarkshire

We are also noticing the clutch judder and doubt we will get any joy from the stealers - M from England

If you need support for watchdog etc., then i will back you. I did contact Peugeot head office and they politely advised me that they cannot ensure that the car won’t go wrong in the warranty period. I listed the problems I had and also pointed them here due to the amount of serious faults that were present. I have to say though, my dealer has been great, I can’t fault them to be honest, it’s just the car is crap - Peter Granville from Durham

Well... it’s same story here. I have had about £3500 worth of faults on my car and Peugeot aren’t interested. It is still under warranty. I purchased it from new from cab direct it’s only done 82000km. The turbo is leaking oil, egr valve etc... also, the antirollbar and both ball joints need replacing. They replaced intercooler which was leaking oil but not turbo about 3 months ago now I am seeking legal advice - Perwiz Yousef from Yorkshire

I support you in getting in touch with Watchdog. My e7 was bought new in September 2005, it has had three flywheels and is now in for its fourth clutch - David Chisholm from Moray (Elgin) and Nairn Shire

08 plate Expert, taxi 43,000 miles and it’s had 2 new clutches, new front anti roll bar, new front seat (worn out from getting in and out of cab all day). But I found cab direct very good to deal with and so far my main dealer has been good as well. I still like the cab BUT PEUGEOT NEED TO PULL THERE ACT TOGETHER AND SORT OUT THE CLUTCH. And cab direct should be telling people thay will need to replace the clutch very 20,000miles. It’s being sold, unfit for purpose.

I have had my Peugeot since August 2007, the only thing I can say about it is what a peice of rubbish. Problems started within two weeks. In the last 2 years it has had 2 front anti roll bars, waiting for the third now, 5 sets of discs, lost track of brake pads, rear bushes are on the way, out clutch has been replaced, starter motor replaced, ECU went wrong, side doors stick, front tire wear is unbelievable. I spoke to Cab Direct who sold me the vehicle and they weren’t intrested, the warranty is a waste of time and as for Peugeot you might as well bang your head against a brick wall; it would be less painful then trying to get anywhere with Cab Direct or Peugeot. As for the modified anti roll bar, my local dealer has never heard of it.

Well, would you believe it? I have just lost the power steering and I have a bucket load of work to do. It just gets better and better with this car. I lost it for nearly a week last time . IF YOU ARE CONSIDERING BUYING ONE OF THESE FOR TAXI WORK DON’T UNLESS YOU GET A BLOODY GOOD WARRANTY ON IT. I have the standard 3 year 60k warranty which will run out in about 6 weeks time and if you read my previous posts you will see why you need it. I can’t afford to change the car!!!!!!!

Hi, I have only had my taxi since December 08 with 17,000 miles only. The dealer replaced the fly wheel and clutch and within 18hrs it came adrift and wrecked the gearbox. It has taken 3 weeks for someone to take responsibility for it and I have not earned a penny in that time. Can you help me and point me in the right way to get compensation. Update to previous: car failed to start last Sunday morning, I thought maybe the key had lost its code. I tried the spare on the Monday, still no good, tried jumping, no good. I called the breakdown service who managed to get it started by shorting the terminals of the starter with a penny. I left it with main dealer to look into and also the grinding/knocking from the clutch which they aid was likely to be clutch bearing. Well... the grinding is the dual mass fly wheel, luckily still on warranty or I would be looking at £1000 to fix it. The starting was a fuse!!!!!! I have to say I have lost all faith in this car, in the 7 months I have had it, it has been in the main dealer 7 times for faults. It’s on 48k now I got it on 22k - I am shaking just thinking about the next 30k. I cannot recommend this car anymore to much has gone wrong. Peugeot, you have built a pile of, well you know what...

I have a new E7, bought in 2008. I have had many problems with the clutch. Peugeot replaced the clutch twice but I am still not satisfied, as the gear is still not running smoothly. I have had a problem with the anti roll bar brushes. I have no faith in Peugeot dealership to correct the ongoing problem. Peugeot Garages within my town have been very unhelpful. I have lost valuable time due to this problem. I have also found that a lot of my colleagues in Leicester with this vehicle have had the same problem and have had their clutches replaced twice in one year.

An update to my previous entry. Since last writing I have had both the anti roll link bars done at 30000, rear discs and pads at 33000 plus both sliding door windows replaced due to water leakage. I still have creaking and knocking from the rear, any thoughts? Still a good drive though, I have to say I still prefer the 806 which has done 175000 (reckon its done more like 275000) and is still going strong. Anyone know how I can stretch it to get more luggage in? Also, I can’t believe a 2007 engine that cant run on biofuel!!!!!!!

I use the E7 as a hackney carriage. The vehicle is beautiful to drive, but all is not good. All the NEW E7 drivers have had similar trouble. The anti-rollbar and links have been replaced under warranty. The dual mass flywheel develops play and needs replacing. Please note if you notice clutch judder when vehicle is warm. Please visit dealer as soon as possible, because if you go over 20,000 miles the dealer will insist on replacing the clutch as well. They will tell you to pay for the clutch (clutch warranty 20,000m) and Peugeot will reimburse you. Don’t fall for it - they will not. Insist the clutch not be replaced as its not worn out yet, or let them replace the clutch, but don’t part with any money. THE FLYWHEEL IS FAULTY, NOT THE CLUTCH. MY LOCAL DEALER IS THE WORST GARAGE I HAVE DEALT WITH IN OVER 18 YEARS. PEUGEOT H.Q AREN’T MUCH BETTER. TRY GETTING EVERYTHING IN WRITING.

I have a similar problem, my clutch pedal is vibrating constantly. It does not make a noise, it’s just when you put your foot on the clutch pedal that it vibrates all time. Peugeot have said that the clutch has gone. Cab direct are saying it’s the flywheel and 5 independent garages and engineers have all said it’s the dual mass fly wheel. However, Peugeot are still insisting it’s the clutch. This is because the flywheel IS covered on the Warranty but the clutch is not as I’ve done 40,000 miles. Probably Peugeot trying to make money out of me - Gerry from Devon

My taxi is going in for it’s 48000 service and the 4th front suspension refit (antiroll bar and bits). Each time they argue it’s not covered under warranty, then after phone calls, they repair for free. I hope they have found a cure, I’m about to get rid of mine, I paid a lot of of money for my work tool, did not expect this kind of treatment from the manufacturer...

The Peugeot Tepee has a common fault - I’ve had my anti-roll bar replaced after just 28000 miles - it was knocking - and so have all the taxi drivers who bought E7s. The good news is the guys at Peugeot have modified the anti-roll bar.

I to am getting a lot of noise from the rear and when going over rough ground it sounds like the suspension is knocking on the front. Changing the headlight bulbs is an absolute nightmare when doing it for the first time, just not enough hand space. The side light was easy to get out but there is only room for 2 fingers to get the bulb back in. I managed to push the holder in to the light assembly - 20 minutes to get it out. I would like to be able to switch the seat belt warning alarm off. I have an issue with the single folding seat being on the drivers side because, as a taxi driver it means the rear passengers getting out on to the road. other than that a good car, spacious and comfortable (not as comfy as the 806 I have). I have recorded 31mpg doing local work and recorded 40mph to Southampton and back from Middlesbrough. It looks good and certainly catches the eye. I have the 8 seat model, although on the log book it’s a 9 seater. Peugeot tell me it will cost about 2k for the twin front seat. I have not had it serviced yet as it’s only been working since November and I have only covered 10k miles. Does anyone have the correct tracking setting for this car?

We have had our Tepee for just over a week. It looks good, is nice to drive and most of all, I can get my 2 sons in plus my disabled daughter as it has been adapted as a wheelchair accessible vehicle. We are able to get everything we need in to it as it is nice and roomy and it certainly makes life a lot easier for our family!! We do have one snag with it though..... after a week of having it, the battery went flat and I had to call the AA out. Took it to our local Peugeot dealer who said they needed the whole car to see where the drain was but as we were on our way to take my daughter to the hospice for respite, and it started ok, we decided to not to leave it as. However, again, 3 days later, the damn battery was flat again and had to get my sister to jump-start it...not impressed!! Needless to say, it shall be going in to the dealer on Monday morning (tomorrow!).... fingers crossed that’ll be the only issue we have with our new car! Shame as we love it!

Having similar problem with E7 SE, creaking noise coming from offside area after about 4,000 miles or 2 months. Peugeot dealer renewed track rod arm and still problem so they then said it was a problem with lubrication on suspension. The dealer did that and still problem exists. Vehicle has now done 12,000 miles and dealer has ordered suspension unit; waiting for delivery of same. Will let you know if this cures problem.

What a beast, I love our new Tepee. We had ordered a brand new one, but due to manufacturing delays decided to go with a second hand one, which incidentally was near impossible to find. So much room for all our family and all the luggage that goes with us. Extremely comfortable, plenty of width and leg room. Driving our Tepee is super not one iota like a van. All the adjustments that can be made to the driving position make it so comfortable too. Although filling it up with diesel for the first time was a bit of a shock (£85.00), the MPG is around 32 and that is all short journeys taxiing the children around. I recommend the Tepee to anybody that will listen! For a family it is the must have mode of transport that puts all the others in the dark.
