One of the most original cars in the market, the Peugeot 1007 is a head-turning concept car with sliding doors and a Camelio interior. With speed-sensitive power steering, the Peugeot 1007 is ideal for parking and is well-suited to both in-town driving and the open road thanks to its optional 2 Tronic gearbox. The 1007 is renowned for safety and has earned a five-star Euro NCAP rating. However, it’s the key fob operated doors that really grasp the imagination. If you’re in the market for a small car with a difference then the Peugeot 1007 is for you.

Bought my 1007 18mth ago. One previous owner from new. I had trouble with the drivers door not staying open. Easily remedied with a spray of W D 40 on return bar at rear bottom of door, no more trouble since.

I bought my Peugeot 1007 about 5 months ago. I have had trouble with the sliding doors when temperature is below 0 degrees, and I will try the tips mentioned in all these helpful reviews. Apart from that, I like it, but when you can’t shut the door in the ice and snow, all the other good features are worthless. Does anybody know if is possible to completely disconnect the electrics, so that the doors are manually operated only? This won’t help many of you, but I could cope with that! Thank you.

Hi, I bought my car just over a month ago because I liked its looks and it was cheap as it was an ex-company car with believe it or not 89,000 miles on the clock. I got a 1 year warranty with it and got the price down to £2,400 so took it. So far I have not really had any door problems but the tensioner for the alternater belt went costing £90 and 2 weeks ago a gearbox failure came up on the display. On investigation at my garage the clutch was found to be broke into pieces. I was really p*ssed off as the warranty company said it was due to wear. I paid £300 to replace the clutch. I thought the problems were over but yesterday whilst driving home the gearbox failure warning came on again and the car would not move for a minute or so, but then started to work again. Has anyone experienced these problems before and do you know the cause?

I have had problems with my 20k warranty. Clutch went at 15000miles and they refused to let me have it on warranty as they felt it was due to wear and tear and it cost over £500 to repair.. I think the warranty is a complete farce. I would have to either been pulling something or have rode the clutch for the past 15000 miles...totally inconcievable. However, I am taking it further which should open the flood gates!! - Audrey Pullan from Cheshire

I bought the car from Arnorld Clark and as soon as I drove it away I was having problems with the passenger door opening and closing. It would be parked in the street and the door would open even when I locked it. But the worst problem is when I was driving and stopped at traffic lights; the left door opened of its own accord even though the car was locked. Its been a nightmare.

Because I am disabled I chose the 2007. Peugeot owned the car for the first 18 months (did 10,500 miles) and I have owned it since - 2 years 6 months (have done 8,500 miles). I have had many problems with the doors but once it was out of its warranty period a year ago I have waited for each incident and let it go as it usually rights itself overnight. However, I now have a more serious problem. The screen in the car shows "ABS/ESP not functioning". I took it to the local dealer where I bought the car and was told it was a fauly ABS pump and would cost £1,150. I picked myself up from the floor and said I did not think this was fair as the car had only done 19,000 miles and they said they would contact Peugeot who said they could not help as the problem "did not fit their criteria". As the car was almost 4 years old the MOT was due so I had the work done and had to pay up front, this was their rule I was told. I fortunately paid on my credit card. I went to collect the car from the garage but the new pump replacement had failed to correct the problem, the screen was still showing the same fault. The service manager said they would have to send for another pump as the new one must be faulty??? I have not had the new pump fitted and the car is 4 years old today. I am paying to have the car examined by an electronics expert as I have been told by several independant mechanics that they do not think that the fault can have been the pump in the first place and I have paid £1500 for a different fault that could be put right much more cheaply. Apart from its annoying faults I like the car but I dont think I can afford it. I had Hyundai’s previously and kept the last one for 6 years; they never ever had a single fault.

I had that ABS/ESP warning light on on our 1007 and it was one of the sensors on the wheels which my local garage cleaned and it has been OK since - Fraser Horspool from Pembrokeshire

I got the 1007 from Hardies at Halbeath, Dunfermline on mobility. When I inquired about the doors the sales man said; OH WE HAVE HAD NO PROBLEMS WITH THE DOORS. So I took his word for it and took it. Well, I only had it a week or so and the doors started working on there own, even when moving. The petrol and speedometer weren’t showing anything... so back it went. In and out it went for months and every time I got it back from Hardies I was assured by the service manager it was OK. One day my 3 year old grand son was climbing in the car and the door started to close; my grandson had his hands on the rail which the door moves on. I had to push the door back or he would have lost his finger. Eventually it came to a point when I got out of the car and the door closed trapping my hand. I went right back to the dealer and told them what had happened and to fix it or keep it. OK... we will fix it: 2 days later I got it back. Its OK now, the mechanic is sure its OK. So off I went happy. It was Mothers’ Day and we went to Colne near Preston to see the kids. When we got there the doors wouldn’t open and after forcing them open they wouldn’t close. That was it. I phoned mobility and now I have taken legal action against the dealer and Peugeot. Mobility insurance have taken the case on. So I would advise anyone with the same problem to contact Mobility insurance and claim your benefit back. Don’t just accept it.

This is the first small car I have ever had & purchased it as my wife has mobility problems. Found it surprisingly good - handles well & is quite lively if you keep the revs above 4000. Like everybody, had initial problems with doors which supplying dealer (Arnold Clark) didn’t have a clue how to fix. However, most problems can be sorted simply by greasing the locating plugs and sockets which are located at both the font and rear of the doors. They have now been trouble free for over two years! Problems can also occur if the exterior handle is used to open the door. If it is not pushed fully forward again after use the door will then fail to stay shut.

Peter, saw your report re 1007; I am having problems with mine and i have no trust with the main dealer who, when i took the car there, without looking at the problem, said its most likely the motor which also operates a strap which could snap. Upon asking how much it would cost to repair they said roughly £1000-00.I have since had an auto electrican look at the car and he gave it a sound examination, testing all components. All were working and the AE thinks its something simple but as we have no wiring diagram we dont know where else to look. I have looked at both points you mentioned and both contain grease - John Osborne

I like the car and I’m gutted that it’s been discontinued. The door problems usually stem from dirty contacts on the door frame or dirt in the door catch at the rear of the door. If the door refuses to close properly, a few squirts of WD-40 on the contacts and the door latch will uaually fix it, it did in my case anyway.

Bought for ease access for disabled driver. Left door opens even when the car is locked. When you shut it it just opens again. This has happened when parked and unattended. It has happened while setting off with a passenger - very dangerous. No warranty so paid £350 for new lock mechanism which has not fixed it.

I have just bought the Peugeot 1007. Straight away, on the 2nd day, I had problems with the left door. I phoned up my dealer and they have booked it in - the only problem is that even when I have locked it it seems to open up. This is a safety issue as twice the door was left open in the street. Otherwise the car is a great drive but I will be speaking to my dealer about the mechanical faults on the door as I only took out a warranty for a year.

I bought this car 1 year ago, reason - easy to get in and out of. The first couple of weeks I had trouble with the doors opening on their own. I found the cure for this problem was to clean all the door contacts with lighter fluid, also clean any crud off the bottom rail where the roller runs. If you have trouble with the doors its best to reset them, it tells you how to do this in the handbook (its easy). I found the ride harsh and bumpy, the tyres fitted by Peugeot were near the wear bar so I had a set of Toyo’s fitted - WOW what a difference the car is quiet, smooth, holds the road much better, and seems to go better. If I drive it well it will do well over 50mpg, if I drive it enthusiastically the mpg does drop. I found if overtaking it’s best to select manual gearchange because if it’s in auto and you put your foot down it suffers from a flat spot while it tries to change gear which can be quite frightening. Also, if I want to drive enthusiastically I find it best to select manual, all in all I find my 1007 a cracking little car and I’m pleased I bought it.

My passenger door has not worked properly since I bought it second hand 2 years ago but as I did not use it much then it didn’t really matter. However, it has now stopped opening electronically completely and sometimes locks and will not open manually. I have taken it into my local dealer who has had it a since last Thursday. He has put a new motor in it which blew something else which I have had to pay for the bill - so far is about £350. He said that its because it hasn’t been used enough, would it have been caused by over use if I had said we were always using it? Having read the other reviews I think this is a fault that should be taken up by Peugeot. I shall be speaking to Trading Standards about this.

In 20 years of owning cars I have never experienced anything like this! The electronic doors on my car are unreliable, unpredictable and dangerous; they have a mind of their own and when they decide to close of their accord nothing will stop them. One one occasion they closed unexpectedly on my daughter as she attempted to enter the car. She tried to push the door back but it would not stop, she propelled herself backwards out of the car but the door caught her foot. Fortunately her lace was not tied and she was able to slip her foot out of the shoe. The door closed on top of the shoe and crushed it. We had a lucky escape it could have been a very different story. I took delivery of the car yesterday after it being with the Dealer for 16 days to repair the doors, (second time to Dealer with same fault). I drove it home, exited the car and the driver’s door failed; it jammed half way closed. I phone the Peugeot Dealer, they told me they could do nothing until next Tuesday. I was in a very distressed state and stressed that I was due to collect my child and now had no transport. I made the dealership aware that it was raining and the interior of my car was being soaked, I conveyed my deep concern that the car would be vulnerable to theft if it lay open for four days. None of this made any difference. After several communications they agreed to take responsibility for any damage caused if I manually forced the door shut. I tried to open the car this morning and neither of the doors would operate, I now have no access to the vehicle. I contacted the Dealer Principle of the Peugeot Dealership to inform him of this new development and he told me to ’f*** off’ and slammed the phone down. Luckily I recorded the conversation and intend to pass it to Peugeot UK. Other problems include; bubbling paintwork at the back of the car, paintwork peeled off the exterior runners and the vinyl eroded on both doors. The car is still under Manufacturer’s Warranty, in addition to this I purchased extended warranty when I bought the vehicle. I am the first owner of the car, prior to this it was a demonstrator. In conclusion I would not advise anyone to even consider purchasing this vehicle.

Electrical Problems. My Father has a 1007 which since he as owned and has had problems, first the ABS light came on, returned to local garage and main dealer could not find the problem and ABS was working fine they say. Second, door problem on N/s bouncing open when closing. Now lack of power @ ESP light flashing, car will not go over 60mph. Jerks when pulling off from junctions and hates hills, and engine management light on. Returned to local garage and main dealer both unable to find problems ?? Anyone else had these problems? If so please email me direct, its a great little car prefect for my parents, but c**p at moment. john.carpy@btopenworld.com

From time to time, especially when temperature gets below 0, I’ve got a problem with the sliding door - I can open it but it wont close. It just bounces and opens again. I let it run for 10 - 20 minutes until it gets hot inside and it solves the problem each time. About warranty issues - check with somebody who knows something about warranty’s because in my country, if they repair something on your car, the warranty for that part starts to run from the beginning. If you have a problem with opening the doors - bouncing and coming right back at you - this could be an issue - there is a small switch that doors hit when they are fully open. Its located at the and of the bottom rail. Over it is a slightly curved piece of plastic that in my case was broken and the door didn’t hit the "off" switch. Hope this helps.

Dear Davor, I would like to thank you for you help on this site. I too have a door problem and after reading about the clip at the back of the door I looked at mine and it to was broken. I informed the garage that had it for a 2nd time and they seemed to think they knew about the clip. Well when I showed him where it was broken they didn’t have a clue as they didn’t seem to know where to look. So thank you again, it has been fixed. It is now with the garage for the 3rd time - air bag warning on the other door. I’m not too worried as I think the door is where they checked it on the other side and tried to compare it, so I think it’s only the motor. I have also found that after I got it back it would open and close on its own but I found that the door panel was loose and was able to push it in again, no problem. Apart from this I love my little car and as I have back problems it’s so easy to get into. Thanks again - Loz from Hertfordshire

I have had my 1007 for almost a year now and generally find it a great little car with plenty of room inside for the driver and passenger, there is not so much room in the rear seats but then again it is only a super mini. There is however a big problem with the sliding doors which tend to have a mind of their own and close on their own accord, this is potentially a safety problem. It has been into the Peugeot dealer once already and the problem still exists, I am returning it to the garage for the second time and hopefully these problems will be solved before my warranty runs out in a few months. I know that if these problem persist after the warranty runs out I will be looking at a very costly bill to sort things out myself. I have read the reviews and the problems I have are not unique. This does seem to be a design fault.

I bought my 1007 three months ago because of the excellent fuel economy and 5 star crash rating. It is small but Tardis-like on the inside. The 2nd hand price was low (£6.2K) for a car with 15K on the clock and balance of 18 months manufacturers warranty. It is also loaded with extras; ESP, climate control, electric sunroof, automatic lights, windscreen wipers, etc. It’s slower than my last car (a Merc 220cdi), but not as slow in respect of real world motoring as some of the professional reviewers suggest. Besides, I’m most interested in getting from a-b in comfort and safety with the least possible expense, moreover it feels good driving a ’green car’. Don’t be put off by the negative reviews. If you can live with being a bit ’different’ you’ll get a lot of used car for your money.

Only had the car a month already having problems with the doors. The one door will open and then shut straight away giving you seconds to get in before it comes back on you. What a pain, love every thing else about it just think the doors are stupid!!

The pug was bought as part exchange at the local dealer. Liked the quirky looks and ,with the diesel costs on the rise , the claimed 72.3 mpg was the straw that broke the camels back. After 3 months of ownership I’m still trying to get the mpg above the magical 70. When thrashed it returns 55 and when driven frugally 64mpg. As it is still under warranty the local Peugeot dealer has (with no quibble at all) replaced the matt black covering on the upper doors and the CD player as it skips when driving down slightly bumpy roads. The electric doors have so far been no trouble and the driving position for a 6ft 4 bloke ,comfy. I took it on a 450 mile drive last month and the seats are barely adequate as the zips for the changeable covers tend to dig into your butt. ABS is a godsend in such a short wheelbase car and never attempt to turn off the ESP as it will bite you. Having never had auto lights and windscreen wipers I can say that I can live with them but wouldn’t pay for the extras. Overall a nice above the average super mini but don’t expect electrifying performance as its too heavy!

Apparently it’s just been discontinued which is a shame because it’s a great little car now that the bugs have been worked out. The best part is the huge discounts on left over stock. I found a funny looking green one with blue interior reduced by 35%. It’s fully loaded and for that price I would only get a very cheap 107 with no extras. I get people staring all the time in amazement at my funny green thing and it’s really grown on me. I wish Peugeot would hang in there like smart did. The 1007 deserves to succeed, it just needs a bit more refinement and some time to find it’s feet. Ahead of the curve but just out of touch.

My brother bought the 1007 sport with 2 tronic transmissions because of the sliding doors. He is disabled and found it was easier to get in. Apart from the doors we both think the car is a nightmare especially the transmission which, because of the ’dead spots’, is downright dangerous. Performance is poor and fuel consumption far too high. Also there are too many blind spots. I’m not surprised that there are very few of these models on the roads. The last one I saw was broken down! The driver’s sliding door jammed one day fortunately whilst at the dealer being serviced. We have also had total transmission failure for several minutes.

I purchased a 1007 1600cc sport in June 2007 and to date it has been the perfect car for me with easy access and easy parking. This latest version has smooth gear changing in auto or paddle shift , there is plenty of room for rear seat passengers . The performance on this model is pretty good, I am very pleased with it.

This is a wonderful little car and the sliding doors are far from gimmicky as they make getting the kids out of the back a lot easier in ever increasing tight parking spaces. It offers brilliant fuel economy and is very easy to drive. I think it’s very well priced and haven’t found anything to fault it so far.
