Citroen Xantia SX 1995

5 star review

Mine has done 270,000 plus miles. It doesn’t burn oil, runs well, achieves 80+ mph cruising and offers a comfortable, smooth ride, even after this mileage.

Citroen Xantia 24v V6 Exclusive 1997

5 star review

All versions of Xantiae are extremely good cars from the very special Activa with its fully active roll controlled suspension to the very capable estates. The best has to be the 24v v6 Exclusive though as I’ve run pretty much all varieties offered. This model offers champagne motoring for fizzy beer money! Such an amazing understated and massively undervalued car if ever there was one! The performance from the 200bhp v6 and the amazing auto adaptive gearbox is epic and totally addictive yet it’s all presented in a practical roomy superbly equipped family car that looks totally stock and unassuming. The ’trick’ suspension is ideally suited to both roles this car is capable of offering being immensely comfortable on motorways and broken up (the usual UK kind) road surfaces but out in the wilds on open undulating windy roads it’s a revelation tautening up the ride. If ever there was a rare (340 rhd in UK) ultimate Q-car this would be IT - and for just £500. So yes, I like it! In fact, I’ve just bought another as the older pre facelifted version is a far nicer looking car in my opinion. Get one now before they’re all needlessly run into the ground and run on pennies - they’re far to good for that fate! Same goes for the Activa but just a shame it never saw the V6 engine in the UK.

Citroen Xantia 2.0 HDi LX 1997

5 star review

I’ve had three Xantias in total. The first, a 1.9D I didn’t keep long as it was uderpowered. The second, a 1.9 TD was much better and the last one the 2.0 HDi 110 was so good I kept it far longer than I should have, some 6 years in total. During that time it was reliable, comfortable and performance and economy were excellent. Tales of Citroens "over complicated" suspension system are GROSSLY exagerated and most jobs can be done quickly and cheaply by any competent home mechanic. However, good maintenance is the order of the day to prevent problems occurring in the first place. It was the last true "Hydraulic" Citroen, the C5 Replacement had ordinary servo brakes and power steering while the suspension pump was electric. On the Xantia it was all off one engine driven pump which would last for ever if fluid change schedules were observed. It’s probably the best ’motorway’ car I’ve ever had. As with Andrew Russel, The only failure I had in 6 years was an ABS sensor.

Great car!! I have a green car and I have had it since 2001 and I gave to my daughter for her birthday. She loves it and the insurance premiums on it are very cheap.

Citroen Xantia 2.0i Saloon 1992

5 star review

I had this car for ten years and loved every minute I was driving it. All my friends were getting new cars and I listened to the tales of these new cars and bought i FIAT. This was two massive mistakes, selling Citroen and buying Fiat. If they decided to make another Xantia I would be queueing ouyside the showroom.

What a great car! I got it second hand for six hundred and fifty pounds - it flew through two mots [no faults]. I have had it for two years. I’ve only had to service it and it runs forever...

Citroen Xantia 1.9 TD SX 1994

4 star review

I had my mine for nine years and sold it with 163,000 miles on the clock. In that time I found it an economical and reliable car. However a good maintenance regime is essential. Owners often neglect to change the hydraulic oil and coolant regularly, which leads to suspension and cylinder head /heater matrix problems respectively. The only issue I had was the front ABS sensor failed a couple of times. I would recommend this car a used buy with a good service history.
