Audi’s A4 Avant possesses all quality of the A4 Saloon, but with more space and load-carrying ability and can easily accommodate everyone in style. The Audi A4 Avant delivers everyday exhilaration together with precision handling making for an exciting drive. With sleek operating systems, acoustic parking and Xenon Plus headlights as standard; the Audi A4 Avant is a sheer pleasure to drive.

3.0 TDi SE Quattro - I was really looking forward to driving the A4 Avant after I had found out I was road testing the car over the weekend. I wasn’t disappointed, fast, smooth, quiet and really good mpg. The car was packed with every conceivable extra you could imagine, climate control, Bang & Olufsen stereo, panoramic [...]

Surprisingly unreliable, it returned to the workshop for warranty repairs every month or so. It broke down on its first journey with u/s petrol tank! Handling so, so, ride poor, acceleration very good but ponderous on a bumpy bend. Only plus point was a good resale value. There are better cars in the VW stable (the loan Golf from Audi garage was more refined and satisfying to drive). The multitronic box may suit a diesel but is awful with the petrol version (if you can stand the droning). Completely over-hyped. The latest model is unlikely to have improved the handling dynamics.

After another 5000 miles of mixed driving, I’m even more impressed. Now I’m used to the performance, I get more out of it, particularly on the Highland roads. It’s great.

Not a quality car. This 57 plate 2.0 tdi mulitronic has been back several times for steering noises, one of which should have been a factory recall. A new rack and other parts and it is still not right. The mulitronic is great in manual mode but has a real problem deciding which gear to hold when cold and really warm (software?). A loan car had the same problem. The tdi is not as refined as a 3 series and not as economical. The S line ride is a bone shaker so go for the SE if you must. I hope the new A4 is better.

Hi Charles. Looking to purchase direct from Audi Garage a 2008 (2005\2008) 2.0TDI A4 Advant, S-line Special Ed Quatro. We have turned over/started the engine of the vechile in name and when it starts the vehicle shakes a little (too much I feel) then mellows with the engine, did not seem as clean/smooth as others tried but may not be the same model. Is this what you meant by shakey or could you explain for me. Many thanks - Tom Signs from England

Just completed a 2000-mile tour of Scotland and the Hebrides in the A4 Avant. Very smooth, comfortable and always more power than needed. I’ve now got the hang of the electronic handbrake, Start-Stop function, auto lights and wipers and all work fine - wipers got plenty of use on this trip! The sound system is also great - DAB and the SD-card player are especially good. Not sure yet whether I got the SE vs S-line and manual vs S-tronic choices right, but ride, handling and driving are all fine. Fuel consumption is a bit disappointing but that may improve (hundreds of miles of low-gear single-track road); the car’s mpg computer is optimistic by about 5mpg for some reason. Overall it’s smooth, comfortable, practical and good to drive. Dealer service and follow-up have been good too.

I went from a Lexus IS 220 D SE to the Audi and found the Audi to be a much better drivers car. Better MPG better acceleration and decent handling.

A drivers car with practicality. Feels like it has been made to last. This 2.0 TDI SE has a smooth delivery from the turbo and will pull sixth gear comfortably at 70 returning over 44 mpg. It beats our Lexus IS 220D in almost everything. Against it the BMW 3 series looks bland and the Merc looks dated. I wish there was more height in the loadbay as the floor could have been lower and there is not enough storage areas in the front. But who cares when it drives so well!

This car is everything I ever wanted in a car BUT five months into owning it, the gearbox had to be replaced. It’s been great ever since... until now... yes, another serious gearbox fault, at the cost of nearly £1300, not what you expect from a quality car, four years old with 36,000 miles on the clock. I didn’t want to part with this car but now I’m wondering whether I should get rid before it costs me more than it’s worth. Full marks to the Audi garage though, a no quibble courtesy car for as long as it takes to repair it.

Owned BMW for years, and this new car is a revelation in terms of poise, understated class, refinement and economy. A key point is as an Audi driver I do not get the usual negative stigma associated with owning the BMW product and other drivers appear to not show the the same level of resentment. The service levels also exceed that of BMW’s take it or leave it attitude. All in all after one months feedback - a class car at a great price given the size.

This is a brilliant family car with more than enough space for a family of four (and jack russell) and comes with a good level of safety features. I went for this car originally because you know with Audi you’re getting a quality car with well thought out design and without being ripped off. 12 months on from buying this car it’s still the car I’d choose again today.

After 67,000 miles in almost three years, I’ve come to rate this Audi very highly. It has been totally reliable, very comfortable on long journeys, extremely practical and the quality interior has remained untarnished throughout. The auto gearbox is good and the average fuel consumption remains around 44mpg. Niggles? I shouldn’t have gone for the fancy multi-spoke alloys (which are a pain to clean and quickly look dirty again) and there are other cars - like my Alfa 147 - which are more fun to drive. It is a very good car which is difficult to fault, but best summed up as one for the head, rather than the heart.

What a LOT of car you get for your money. This one is a beast and a really fun to drive. I’ve only had it for 4 weeks and 2k miles and hardly had the opportunity for it to show me what it can really do yet but I’m itching to find out. Mpg around 46 and acceleration like you-know-what off a shovel. Bose sound system and DVD sat nav all add towards the experience. Brilliant car.
