I have a 2000 Polo Classic Estate 1.9 tdi. The car has been off the road for a year whilst body repairs were completed and now the turbo doesn't kick in (once or twice I have felt it trying but only for a few seconds). Obviously the power is down and it feels like it`s in limp mode. I have been told that the vacuum pipes etc can perish over time, is this so please? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Regards, Eric Moon.

I have a 1.4 VW Polo Trendline and it has clocked 105,000 km. I took the car to VW for service and was advised to replace the water pump and the gear box is leaking and the engine has a funny loud sound. What shocked me is I changed the cambelt at 90,000 KM with VW and they did not detect the problems and the cost for all this is R13 000, so if I fix all these problems with them will they still detect other effects/failures on the engine at 120,000 KM ?

Hi, I have a Volkswagen Polo 1997 1.0L. It has been misfiring for the past couple of months but has been no problem until the other day when it conked out completely. My dad has replaced the distributor cap, leads, coil and plugs on it which seems to cure it for a couple of days and then the problem comes back. I'd also add it only starts to misfire when the car is up to temperature! What can fix the problem? Thanks

Hi, I bought my Polo a week ago, from start the car struggles to pull away, but if it passes 1000 revs its ok. I took it to a garage & they found that its not firing on piston 2 & 3 like it should, its getting to much fuel on those 2 cylinders. we changed plugs & tested the coils & compression.. but still to much fuel. Could it be the injectors or maybe wiring? the car is also very heavy on petrol? Thank you

Answer this question

Angela Kerr, Ireland

Volkswagen Polo

My yellow oil light keeps coming on. According to the mechanic I need to get rid of the car. I bought the car new, I am a lady driver and the car has 40,000 miles on it - the car is seven years old. Why should this be happening? The oil is not leaking onto the ground as there are no visible signs, however it seems to be going somewhere as it always needs topping up. What would be a reason for this and what should I do?

Answers

Hi Angela, Best thing to get rid of the problem is to do an engine overhaul. Most definitely your sub assembly is the problem , I mean engine block and not the head. Compression test on your sub assembly must be done to determine if it's in good condition or not. Most definitely your crankshaft, pistons and rings needs to be analyzed, if you are lucky' you can only buy piston rings and all will be well, do you have a white smoke coming out of your car? If you decide to do this please have your top ( head ) compression tested as well. I hope this can shed a light. I stand it be corrected. Abby Mabija from South Africa

Volkswagen Polo

My polo classic 97 model 1.6I overheats and pushes the water through the water bottle What can be wrong, and ithe car struggles to start

Answers

Hi Bruce, These are the scenarios and please eliminate one at a time and you will see the exact problem believe me. Let the car reach it's operating temperature, or when the temperature gauge is in the middle. 1-Check the fan if is kicked and on ,how long it stay on. 2- switch the car off and check the radiator hoses, touch the one on top of the radiator and the one coming out of the bottom, feel their temperature if both have the same temperature. If the top one is hot and the bottom one is not it's definitely your Thermostat is dead and stuck at closing position ( change it ). If both hoses are hot then it's definitely a temperature switch is faulty and change it. 3- check your fan switch if the fan kicks a bit late or it doesn't at all. I hope this help. I stand to be corrected. Abby Mabija from South Africa

Hi there I need to know if I remove my battery from my polo blm if my computer box can reset its self an also if it can cause car not to start thanx Anthony

Answers

The answer is no. This is probably what happened and I really hope it wasn't. Whoever remove the battery may be upon returning the battery put the battery cables opposite by mistake and I mean positive into Negative and vice versa. If this happened the computer box is definitely blown and needs to be checked and re programmed. Removing battery doesn't reset computer box. I stand to be corrected. Abby Mabija from South Africa

I have a 2000 Polo Classic Sedan which cuts out intermittently whilst in motion. I suspected the water pump could be faulty which I subsequently changed, to my surprise the problem still exists. I tried kick starting it and it did start but still jerks when in motion and eventually cuts out. The idling is also inconsistent, it revs up to 4rpm. What could be the problem?

Answers

It`s either your injectors or your petrol pump or filter. If you just upgraded your engine to a bigger engine check your fuel management`s system. lUC-MOG from Somerset

It's the ecu under the wiper motor on the right side ,clean the rust on and around it and make sure that you earth it to the car body. Inspect the connection too pieter from South Africa
