When releasing my Volkswagen Crafter`s handbrake it feels as if it’s not releasing properly and therefore the rear brakes sqeak a little. Any suggestions? Is it a cheap fix or would I need to take to VW to sort it out?

I have a 2007 Volkswagen Crafter and am having issues with opening the door with the keys. The battery is flat and the vehicle has not been started in a while. I would have thought that even with the battery being flat I was able to open the door by using the key but that is not working. Could someone please provide a solution? Thanks.

Hi, I have a 2008 VW Crafter with a 2.5 engine. Sometimes the revs go up to 1000 and the engine then knocks at 2000 revs. This lasts for a while then goes away, sometimes I have to turn the engine off and restart it. Can anyone tell me what is wrong, is it a sensor or is it more expensive? Thanks.

Answers

It is the diesel particulate filter being cleaned. The engine knocking at 2000rpm will only happen when under hard accelaration. This happens every two to three days with my crafter for about two mins depending whether it is around town or not. There is nothing to worry about as this is the electronics injecting diesel into the diesel particulate filter to burn the carbon and clean the diesel partculate filter. This will occur more frequently if you do a lot of around town driving - Drew Ritchie from Perthshire

I had the same problem with my VW Crafter, I traced the fault to the vacuum pump with is driven off the cams on the p/s on the engine. I replaced the vacuum pump and have had two problems since - Sam Conway from Ireland

The rear interior light on my Volkswagen Crafter does not work. The display on the dash shows that the door is open, but if I put a meter on the light there is no power there. Where are the door switches? Why did they have to fit an ecu to control interior lights? DOH!

Check the loom under the passenger footwell. I had a similar problem when the jack cover on the floor nipped a wire in the loom and damaged it and it happened to be the interior light wire that was cut. A long shot but it worked for me once repaired - Tony Sidney from England

I bought an 09 demo VW Crafter 35mbw 80kw with around 5,000 kms on the clock and from the date of purchase it has been back in main dealers for starter problems 7 or 8 times since. They solved that problem but more problems have started like clutch pedal going fully down to floor and also clutch pedal vibration when changing gears. WHAT’S NEXT? The mileage at present is 16,000 klms. I would never touch Volkswagen again. PS I owned 5 Transits before with no bother.

I am thinking about buying a 2006 109 lwb fridge freezer this weekend. It has just got a new turbo vacum pump, ball joints, brake discs pads and calipers. Am I mad to even consider or with all the work that has been done should I be trouble free for the next 60 to 70,000 miles? The van has covered 120,000 miles.
