Hi my 2008 163 crafter has started to smoke on idle if im in traffic it will fill the road. Get moving then it clears also it wont start as it should could this be an injector ??.

Answers

This is a blocked DPF - pain in the backside - only way to sort properly is have DPF removed and ECU reprogrammed so it doesn't look for the DPF. This will sort it, the smoke on idle is the self cleaning function on Sprinters / Crafters Shahid from Yorkshire

Hi,, im thinking of buying a 2007 mwb 136 crafter van, I was wondering if they really are as bad as ive read or are they as reliable, economic as any other van (according to the sales man). I will be using it for building work, mainly tools so shouldn't really be running at maximum weight. Oh and its a semi auto. Really looks nice but is this just a cover up. Are transporters gonna be the same. Had an 05 movano-rubbish, then a 08 transit 110 ok but kept jumping out of 5th so not overly impressed. Any advice on whst to look for would be a help. Many thanks

I have a problem with my van burning oil, topped van up with oil but the red oil light keeps coming on. Also a red coolant light keeps coming on. The van is driving ok, would you put this down to a sensor problem as I keep getting light appearing whilst driving but the van is running ok? Or if these lights are appearing could it be more of a problem other than oil or water?

Sprinter&crafter service reset Sitting in the drivers seat looking at the dash on the left hand side you have a M button and below it a 0 button these are the buttons you will need to use. When i refer to the LCD this is the illuminated part in the middle that shows your mileage, service mileage and trip mileage. Please read this fully first to get the jist of it as if you perform the actions too slow it wont work and you will have to start over. 1.Put on ignition 2.Wait for service mileage to revert to vehicle mileage 3.When it reverts to the vehicle mileage press and hold the 0 button until you hear a beep (can take up to 30 seconds) 4.As soon as you hear the beep press the M button repeatdly and you will see in the LCD display different reset's the one you need to select is "reset 51" if you go past it just keep pressing the M button till it comes up again. 5.When the "reset 51" is displayed stop pressing the M button then press and hold the 0 button again until a number 2 is displayed in the LCD. 6.Release the 0 button and then press twice and it will say in the LCD reset done ,if it is not reset you will get a 30% power reduction after 2K miles worked for me shaun taylor from Clackmannanshire

Hi, I have a VW Crafter 2010 mwb. The engine management light came on. I had my mechanic check it out and he said the fault was adblue pressure was low, the cure was to replace the pump. Is this the only thing that it could be or are there any other things that it could be, as the pump is expensive?

Answers

My light came on, the garage said it was a blocked adblue injector, cost £90 to flush out, clean and refill with Adblue. Hope this helps. Peter from Somerset

Hello, I am reading this forum because I have unfortunately bought this problem with 4 wheels. My VW Crafter 35 plate 2008 is consuming a lot of oil (+/- 2 /3 litres oil per 400km). I replaced the turbo for a new one and there continues to be a lot of smoke (white) and consuming a lot of oil. I replaced everything inside the engine. I used the van and it`s still consuming oil with a lot of white smoke. I don`t know what more should I do? Is cleaning the catalyser the solution? Would this small thing (clean the catalyser) resolve the problem?I am getting crazy with this van and spend a lot os money in this car.It would be grate is someone that had the same problem tell me the best way to resolve this problem.Filipe - Portugal

Hi there, it sounds like you have the same fault as I had using oil and smoke, found out that the valve oil seals were letting the oil past the valve and in to the intake of the engine and was then burning the oil in the chamber and passing it all in to the kat Kenny from Greater London

I bought my Crafter recovery truck 2.5 2007 109bhp and when I start from cold there`s a rattle, but when I keep revs up for a few minutes it goes, but when steering is on full left or right lock it comes back. It sounds like a fan belt tensioner but I`m not 100% sure? Also I`ve got a slight oil leak which seems to be by the inlet manifold?

I had same problem it turned out a piece of the catalaictic converter had broken off and was stuck in the exhaust system. Dale Woolley from Isle of Anglesey

Just worth checking - has a previous owner helpfully 'gutted' your DPF but failed to have the engine management remapped to 'turn off' the DPF feature? The DPF requires unburnt fuel to be injected into the exhaust system (which then burns on the DPF matrix) but if that matrix is missing that fuel will simply vapourise and come out the exhaust as heavy, smelly blue/white smoke. I have a 56 plate Crafter, which is experiencing a current drain somewhere, resulting in a flat battery after the vehicle has been stood for, say, 4 days. I've noticed that the radio/CD player will turn on for a couple of seconds every minute or so, regardless of whether the van is running or not. Nobody at my local VW dealer can shed any light on why it does this - any ideas folks?

Hi I bought a vw crafter 2007 163 bhp lwb van about a month ago 129,000 miles and im finding its using a lot of fuel , I drive it mainly motorway at a steady 58 to 62 mph and after filling the tank depending on fuel prices its average tank cost is £94.00 , the worst has been 370 miles to a tank and that was mixed driving ie country roads and motorway , and I also find its gutless on hills , I have to drop from 6th to 3rd some times , im not carrying a lot of weight at all , ive just had a Mercedes sprinter 2003 lwb 313 cdi for 4 years and that was excellent on fuel power everything on average it would return 600 miles for £110.00 , the best the crafter has done is 450 miles to a tank .. im totally gutted and wishing I had not got one now .. I hope you could throw me some ideas please before I sell it ... very frustrating .... Regards Darren

We had this same issue... 1st check your turbo and turbo pipes as that's the most likely. then try the DPF... and last but not least, get the engine/pistons checked for pressure (although that's more likely to affect oil consumption than fuel) Mark Beaton from Lancashire

Hi, in ref to your fuel consumption, I just sold my 315 Sprinter. I got 600mls plus, reason it had a 100 ltr tank. Unless spec from the original log book you will have to remember if you were putting say 80+lts in your old Sprinter. Your VW will only have a 75 ltr tank. My bluetooth 109 13plate Crafter returns 520mls on about 70ltrs, about 35 to the gallon, no guts up hills but I still think a better van than Merc. colin wilson from Kent
