Hi everyone, I have a VW Caravelle TDI 98 model and my concern is that while the aircon is ON and the temperature is working well, the middle AC Vent is closed while the side vents are working well, the leg vent is also working well, the AC at the mid roof vent and back roof vent areas are working well too. It’s only the main vent that sometimes shuts off and no air coming out... this always happens. Please help as the temperature here is so warm and my kids are always complaining about the air condition system of the van.

I have a VW Caravelle 2.5TDi. Year model don’t know. We replaced the master cylinder 5 days ago. Now the clutch is rock hard. It is so bad that the holding bracket of the clutch broke off. New plate/bracket R3000. Is there anyone who can help me?
Answers
It may just need bleeding and as for bracket, I own a t4 caravelle 2.5tdi and my bracket snapped. Common problem with these motors. I bought a replacement bracket off ebay £12 which is easy to fit and very strong. I may be wrong but am sure there is one on the box and one at the foot peddle. I hope any of this can help - Gary Turner from England

Hi, has anybody had problems with the power closing mechanism on the Caravelle tailgate? I haven’t had the VW long and everything worked great, but since we have had frost at night the tailgate power closing seems to have a mind of its own. It closes the tailgate then re-opens it again even if I lock it! Executive 174)

Any ideas why the back of my Volkswagen Caravelle gets very hot, while the front remains cold with the control unit set at 23 degrees front, and 20 degrees back. The overhead rear blowers do not work.

How long should a Volkswagen Caravelle’s brake pads last doing city driving? I had front and rear replaced 12 months ago and have just had to have front replaced again.

Please help! I have a problem on my Volkswagen Caravelle with the engine management lighting up and losing power and cruise control. This only happens in the Winter when the temperature is below 5 degrees. The dealer says they don’t know why but they are saying I should change the turbo. I’m not convinced as the van is great in warm weather. What does everyone think?

I’m trying to change the brake pads on all wheels. Is there an easy way to get the caliper piston to retract? (se 2.5tdi automatic)
Answers
Check bleed order first as that will be your order of wheel/pad replacement. The rear calipers probably wind clockwise inwards having eased the pads out first. Don’t force them inwards. Best to buy wind-back tools for the VW from Machine Mart or other to avoid damaging/scrapping the caliper. The fronts should be a gentle push-back with a G-cramp, but once you’ve got the above tools, it will go back easily. Ensure correct replacement of any anti-squeak springs. After re-assembly, ensure you have pumped the pedal a few times to adjust piston/pads back to disc-face. Then bleed brakes in right order. Wash hands, have a drink - Roger from Worcestershire

I have a 2007 2.5 TDI Caravelle (AUTO) - The problem was on the open road power was lost and going uphill, it was impossible to change gears to get more power. It sounded as if the turbo was not working. After two days of testing, they said it was the catalytic converter that was detoxing resulting in the loss of power. Now it is running fine. Any suggestions if the reason is true or not or what the problem can be?
Answers
I had the same problem on my 52 plate T4 Caravelle and the clutch finally gave in. The clutch plate was thinner than an LP record when it came out so it was badly needing it with reference to the cat converter. Replace it with a normal box, you don’t require it by law and you get a little more oomph out your van. Mine cost £48 to replace and after the clutch replacement, my van was pulling as good as when it left the factory - John Bell from Lanarkshire
