Hi. My 2006 Volkswagen Caddy sdi won’t start after about 90 miles. I fill the tank up and drive but when I get to about a third of a tank it cuts out and won’t start as if it`s run out of fuel. If I put a can of fuel in it will start again after turning it over until the fuel gets to the engine. I’ve had the sender unit out and that looks fine. Can anyone help? (Sdi)

Hi. I can hear air coming through the brake pedal of my Volkswagen Caddy. It can sometimes make a whistling noise which is very annoying. Can anybody tell me what this is? Also my heater only works when on power 4, no air is blowing out when it is on power 1, 2 or 3? I heard that it`s a resistor below the passenger glove box,, is this true? If so how much does one cost and are they easily replaced? Thanks.

My Volkswagen Caddy has oil in the coolant resevoir tank. I have emptied it but it has refilled again. The van is still running perfectly. Is it a gasket problem or a fault with the water coolant pump as some one suggested? I don`t want to pay for a new head gasket and then have to fix the pump. Any ideas please? (1.9 tdi.)

Answers

Sounds like an oil cooler leak. I had the same thing on my 2005 Passat 1.8t gas. Not sure if the TDI has an oil cooler. Mine is between the oil filter and the engine, where the filter srews on - Brett Hayes from United States of America

Dunno if it’s too late, I’ve a 2007 Caddy. I thought the head was gone did a sniffer test on the coolant to see was there any traces of fuel all good there, the oil cooler is a common fault and not too expensive to replace. When you flush the coolant flush the system with washing powder, it removes the oil quite well - Niall O Brien from Ireland

I have a beautiful ’96 Caddy. The clutch plate gave up a few days back. This was changed, but on starting the engine after the job was done, it ’hard started’ but on starting the oil pressure warning light began to flash. It never goes off, and the glow plugs warning light now starts flashing after the engine runs for about a minute. The idling is very rough and the engine does not stay on. Trying to drive, once I try to select a different gear the engine goes off. It has an SDI engine. The oil level is okay. The oil pressure switches are okay. The oil pump seems to be fine as oil comes up to the cylinder head. Help!

Hi all. I am having problems with my 08 VW Caddy. A few weeks ago the van jut cut out while driving to work. Got the AA out and he squirted some quick start into the air filter and it started up.He said it might be taking in air? It had started up strange that morning, as if it was winding up before it got to full power. It’s been the same more or less ever since. Took it for a service but it’s no different. Garage put it on a diagnostic and said all was fine. Thanks for any help.

My Volkswagen Caddy’s rear wiper works then stops then works again, sometimes it can go 20 minutes without working, then all of a sudden work. Any ideas? (TDI)

Answers

Have a look at the rear door lock, clean around the lock area, make sure nothing is stopping it from closing correctly. Even if it appears to be closed the contact may not make correctly and this will stop the wiper from working. At least it did on my 07 C20 - Toni Dewhurst from Wales

I have a problem with my VW Caddy 1.6 2004 model (petrol). It blows out white smoke when I start the van after it was not driven for a couple of hours. The smoke normally last for about a minute. During the driving there is no smoke. A couple of months ago the pipe running from the throttle body to the tapped cover and filters broke. I tried fixing it by tamping up the broken part. I later found oil in the pipe. The pipe was subsequently replaced but it still smokes. I have tried using Fuel Injection cleaner as oil might have gone into the throttle body but no joy. Any further suggestions?

I have had problems with my Volkswagen Caddy overheating in town. Replaced entire cooling system including radiator, hoses, water-pump, thermostat, even replaced cylinder head gasket and skimmed head. No difference. It does not loose any water and the coolant mix is about 60% anti freeze to water. Please someone help, the problem has become my nemesis. Variant: 2.6 microbus. Year Of Make: 1995

Hi there, have you checked the thermo fan switch/relay and the fan itself, this is critical in slow traffic, and is not always obvious. Also check relevant fuses, cooling system purged of air locks, injector timing and radiator hot spots (use a non contact infra red thermometer for this, appx $40.00au). Hope this is of some help - Alasdair McCarter from Australia
