I was driving in the snow. As I was parking the car and when the car was almost at complete halt, I suddenly saw a STOP sign on the dashboard of the car. I switched off the car and a minute later I tried to switch on the car to find I did not see the sign. What is the reason for the sign. Should I have anything to worry about when I will be driving this evening to get home? Thanks.

When driving my Bora the passenger door seems to be clicking and unlocking (a click is heard constantly). It is like it is unlocking and locking again. This happens a lot during driving. What is causing this problem? Also the window wipers set to intermittent change to constant wiping, then intermittent but a double wipe then intermittent again. It seems to have a mind of it’s own. But the passenger door keeping unlocking (click) then clicking again (click) during driving. What is causing this, and the intermittent wiper problem? (2.0 SE Sport)

The engine light indicator (which looks like an engine/pump) comes on and off on my dash. When I start the car, it displays ’EMISSIONS WORKSHOP’. Also, when the indicator + error come up, the car loses performance (slightly lower power over 2,500 revs and lots of power under 2,500), exhaust makes loud noises and the car trembles when not driving. I’ve already been to a local garage which couldn’t figure out what’s the problem and decided it’s best to delete the code; also some other ’mechanics’ told me that it might be the catalytic converter, misfire or a dodgy sensor that displays the error and reduces performance. Any help at all will be much appreciated as I’m starting to go mental over this... (1.6 S Petrol)

Two things. When I drive around town in stop start traffic the abs sensor light warning lamp comes on during braking then goes off again. Also the remote central locking does not lock all the doors simultaneously off the interior button. I have to push it 3 times in succession to get all doors locked. This also affects the alarm system, as it does not disengage if I say unlock the car and open the passenger side door only as the central locking doesn’t function properly. The interior puddle light also doesn’t engage as a result. Again if I open the doors from the switch inside with succession it’ll work alight. Any ideas anyone? (1.6i)

Okay, so now where do I start... My VW Bora V5 has gone crazy. My first problem, after I indicate and when the indicator turns off a strange clicking sound continues but its a lot faster. Second problem, on the passenger airbag side there’s a strange sound. It’s not a clicking sound but its doesn’t sound right. After a while, when I’m driving, the car doesn’t have any power when I accelerate and then it just gets a massive boost out of nowhere and the tacho goes crazy... what could be wrong?

The radio on my Volkswagen Bora turns up when I speed up and I’m just wondering if there is any way of turning this off? Thanks.

Answers

It is the GALA setting on the radio. Look in the instruction manual for the fitted radio and turn it to off. (On the factory fitted units - press and hold the RDS button until you hear one beep. Then press lightly until you see GALA. Use the volume up or down button to set it to off.) Hope this helps!! - Hein Steven from South Africa

Today is August 15, 2011, and I’m sitting in a VW dealership right now, for the same problem. I’m being told that there is a wiring problem! Well this is a 2001 VW Beetle that I purchased new, 10 years ago. How in the world did it suddenly develop a wiring problem?! They said they will have to do a diagnostic to see what the exact problem is. I hope it can be fixed inexpensively, because not only are the brake lights not working, but neither is the cruise control which originally was attributed to the malfunction of the brakelight switch - Bianca Smith-e-Incas-Allen from United States of America

The glow-plug light on my low mileage, recently serviced Bora, comes on when driving (it goes out when starting the car but comes on after a few hundred yards). Any suggestions on the problem would be appreciated. (1.9 TDI)

Answers

The glow plug after start has a dual purpose and is an indicator that the brake lights are working (yes really). Check these. If not working but bulbs OK the brake switch may be faulty. It has four wires to it and one pair is for the brakes the other pair service the glowplug function on start. These are notoriously unreliable. It is situated above the brake pedal old type black - replacements usually green about £15 ish at VW. Remove plug twist, anti-clockwise. Leave pedal up, push new switch in and twist clockwise to lock. There are references to fitting if you search on forums. Hope this helps - Ben Shaw from England
