Hi, basically the power steering in my 2 litre diesel Vectra is insanely stiff, more than 1 person is needed to turn the wheel. Some say that the power steering is electronic or something, others say that it`s located near the radiator but I can`t find it. Really urgent to get it fixed before it hits an accident?

Hi, we have a vauxhall vectra 2007, the floor on the front passenger and rear passenger footwall has become flooded. My partner has tried the great advice below about clearing out the drain plug in the engine bay, however the floor is still very wet and water canbe heard under the car. Does anyone know please how to empty this? Maybe there is a plug under car? Than you in advance for any advice! Clare

Hi, the problem is leaves and stuff collecting in the rain reservoir. If you lift the bonnet and peel back the rubber seal just under the windscreen (passenger side if i remember correctly) you should have a pool of collected water. If you stick your hand in and feel for a rubber grommit and remove it all the water will fall out.. i threw mine away afterwards but you could clean and put it back.... but the problem might come back.. oh and just so u know the water is coming in through your pollen filter which u might want to replace (easy and cheap) gary kinvig from Lancashire

I have had a few annoying "faults" with my vectra recently. 1. There is a scraping noise coming from the offside front wheel, I have taken the wheel off to have a look and the break pads still have plenty of padding on them, nothing is catching on the brake disk, took it to a garage and they could not find anything hanging off that could cause the noise. He said he bent the plate back cos that may have been the cause. The scraping noise is still there but it seems to vanish when the car has been driving for a while. 2. Engine Management light comes on when vehicle is idling in traffic, stopped at traffic lights etc, it then goes off and out of limp mode when the revs hit 2000-3000 and it then drives normally. Took it to a garage who said they could not get a code from their machine and to bring it back when the engine management light is on permanently

The blower motor speed tends to start at a low speed, no matter what climate control temperature or demist settings are programmed. (This model has A/C, climate control and seven speed settings) Sometimes this does not change, sometimes it unexpectedly speeds up to a faster speed. Sometimes, when at a fast speed, it will unexpectedly change back to a very low speed. Changing the speed setting has no direct impact on the speed. When climate control is programmed, the speed of the blower will fluctuate dramatically from high to low (not gradually as it is supposed to), sometimes in the space of a second or so it will return back to the previous speed - there is no obvious reason for the speed changes and these changes do not appear to relate to the temperature in the car or to any other operation. What may be causing this erratic behaviour? Historically there was a water leak into the fan blower motor - this was rectified by removing the water and re-lubricating the motor bearings. Though this was a few years ago.

Hi, my 2007 vectra has a sort of blowing noise that comes when accelerating over about 50/60mph. I'm sure it not exhaust because when I come off the accelerator it disappears. It's not there all the time it comes and goes. Any ideas what it could be? I also had water in the footwell passenger side and found blocked drain so managed to sort that but don't know if this has anything to do with the noise problem. Thanks in advance :)

Answers

water in the front footwell areas is caused by blocked drain plugs in the engine bay. Remove the rubber seal at the windscreen end of engine bay, lift up the cowling and clear the debris from the rubber drain plugs, or even just remove them entirely. Water gets in past your pollen filter and eventually will blow the fan motor. shaun wright from Tyne and Wear

My car has been running ok on lpg and petrol. Issue started when I filled up at a different place twice in the last two weeks, paid £8 each time and both times indicated gas is running low. Yesterday the car stalled on gas and wouldn`t accelerate without stalling. Today the car switches off on its own when put on lpg. I have had to use petrol instead. Lpg is Vauxhall manufactured. What is the cause?

Looking at your readers` forum it seems quite a few other drivers are having the same problem. Surely Vauxhall need to know about this problem as it seems to be quite common and needs to be looked at?

Hi there, My sister bought a 2003 vectra which I was delivering to her today I drove it for about 20 minutes on the motorway at about 70 I noticed at traffic lights some smoke coming from the engine so stopped it asap at first I thought the oil cap was loose because there was oil on parts of the engine Anyway long story short no warning lights came on and it wasn't overheating checked the oil which was at max and although clean looking there was darker almost black bits in the grooves I drove it back home and just before I arrived the engine management light came on and what I think is the oil pressure sensor going into the manifold? at the front of the engine was smoking. The only other thing I noticed was the yellow oil can and spanner light coming on when putting the keys into the ignition and going out when the engine was running it did not come on when driving and did not overheat. The car runs like 2 cylinders in low gears and did struggle at roundabouts but when reved and driven in higher gears although stuttering it still ran Thanks for any advice Billy
