Simon N. Fewou, Cameroon

Vauxhall Vectra

I would like to know what happen with my Opel (Vauxhall) Vectra 2.2 DTi estate. My Opel experience a power loss when an orange sign (control indicator for engine electronics) appear on the dash board. After I experience that sudden loss of power, I have another sign (control indicator for exhaust) that appear on the dash board when the engine is running. Could you please tell what the problem is? Thank you Simon

Answers

I don't quite follow your description of the warning lights but think your sudden loss of power means you have gone into limp mode. The "control indicator for exhaust" is probably your DPF warning indicator telling you the DPF is blocked and may have reached the stage where you need to take it to a garage for a forced regeneration. Rooftop aerial with screenwash. The rubber aerial gater is breaking. The agents can no longer supply either the gater or the aerial assy. Gaters are available on line but seem to be for Vectra C model. Will this fit the Vectra B model. Can the aerial unit be removed by just releasing some of the rear roof lining or is a major strip down involved. Any advice greatfully appreciated

my vx 1.8 duel fuel is dumping petrol out of exhaust.

Answers

Are you positive it's petrol? Have you smelt it/tasted it? All cars drip water out of the exhaust until the exhaust reaches a high enough temperature to turn the water to steam, condensation is a natural by-product of the combustion process and burning LPG creates more condensation than burning petrol. If it's definitely petrol don't drive it any further as the risk of the hot exhaust igniting the petrol and starting a fire is high. Mick from Portugal

The spanner warning light is informing you that you need to get it fixed. Search the internet for how to read Vauxhall fault codes, follow that guide an you will get the fault code and then you'll know where the problem is. Mick from Portugal

Everything works fine ,still only done 44,000 miles Except the lights in the DAB/CD section of the dash, I didnt even know if it was supposed to light up as its been like that since I bought the car (second owner) I asked at the delears & was told all they can do is a send back of the unit for an exchange at approx £200 !! I of course asked if they were joking !! I try to keep the car in perfect nick and of course it would be great if I could get these lights on. I will try the the trip ometer to zero trick soon as I get this arm out of my sling !! Many Thanks. Vectra Estate Nov 2005.

Hello all! My Vectra is acting up: it started off as an intermittent battery light coming on- which would cause the speedo, revmeter and petrol gauge to not work. At this time, I seem to get a variety of other faults flash too (power steering, abs) but only for a short time. Once this battery light goes back off, everything is fine. The car is driving very well. Oh, and a bulb warning and front brake pad indicator stays on permenantly (there is a bulb out too). The heating sometimes cooks and other times is luke warm. Any ideas? I have a nearly new battery I can put in, but I wondered if it could be the alternator, a fuse, that tripmeter fault, or if I should re-set the "computer". What do you think??!! Mary- damsel in distress.

Wondering if anyone can help this is not all the time but happening a lot lately, when setting off the car feels like the power has been sucked right out of it and the noise is like a very noisy exhaust but coming from the engine area, once we get to about 30 and into 4th gear it moves and you don't hear the sound? Also every now and then the Engine Management light comes on for 24/48 hours then goes off and the car is okay......till the next time? Anyone any ideas, we have recently had a new front exhaust fitted as we thought that was the problem but seems not! I have tried the pedal test but i don't understand the groups and flashing. Any advise would be great fully received Thanks.

Dog ate n/s load area light ! - no internal lights at all - and no instrument cluster illumination either. Easy - replaced both sides with new fittings, now simply find/change a fuse, surely? No. Read every fuse description in the handbook and (Mr. H's manual) and lo, no specific mention of 'internal lights' ? ? OK, imagine what fuse might have some bearing and check many! All appear OK, (especially no. 17 and 26 on dash-end box) No change. Desperation; check every fuse in the car - all appear healthy. Found a certain forum and find no specific answer - but then spot- this far more straightforward site - and - dash lighting problems abound. Hope was raised with the 'Press the Mileage Trip Button' - some saying press brake pedal simultaneously, some flash hazards (with ignition on). Alas, no immediate fix even to the dash lighting issue, just some weird codes/figures coming up on the mileage area display ? The battery has been changed prior to refitting damaged fitting for approx 5 mins. And, oh, no specific fuse stated for the Cruise Control either. It must be me? Come on guys put me right.

Hi, I have a problem with the dashboard what's happened is my speedo, rev counter, fuel and temperature gauge have all stopped working. What's strange about it is there not sitting at 0 the speedo is stuck at 55mph rev counter at 3 revs petrol says full and temperature gauge at 0 even when the car is switched off. Does anyone have any idea what the problem could be and is there anything I can check before taking it to a garage ? Thanks

Answers

I had no lights on instrument panel except engine management. Followed what others said in previous forum e.g. pressing tripmeter , pressing tripmeter with brake pedal simultaneously ect . It did not work first. But, pressing/unpressing repeatedly the tripmeter brought life back and all is well. The other last resort is to disconnect battery for few second and reconnect to reset the processor. Suresh Mistry from Leicestershire

Your thermostat is stuck , needs changing. costs about £60 its a completely sealed unit. had the same with mine when we had the MOT and found it effected the emittion levels as well, as its not telling the ECU the correct temperature. jan jenkins from Cardiff

Answers

I presume that your car is Vectra c if so if your led bulbs weren't canbus compatible then due to leds requiring a lot less current than a standard bulb the bulb monitoring circuit believes that the bulb is open circuit I.e blown hence the warning on the dash. Hope that helps adie from Berkshire

You have a light bulb fail, but you will have to check all of them to find out which bulb has failed, usually the brake light. use a friend to check lights with you cannot be done solo. don't forget reverse light or fog lights. took me ages to find mine as it was a rear fog light. jan jenkins from Cardiff
