I have a movano van, recently having loss of power issues. Been into two different garages and put on diagnostics, no faults found. Both garages at a loss and no ideas what to try. Starts fine, but very very slow to get going. Can with foot to floor get to approx 30 mph but will not go any faster. Any suggestions / ideas?

Battery was going flat after about a week of not being used so I fitted a new battery of the correct size. It went flat same as before so I charged it and bought and connected a solar charger. when I started it the next day the Stop light and the Battery charging light stayed on and the ABS and the airbag lights came on shortly after. The battery now discharges overnight but starts and runs ok except for the dash lights staying on. Is there anything obvious that could cause this like the alternator being damaged ? Ken

My van is diesel and I have mistaking putting 27 litres of petrol in it will it be ok if I top up with diesel

Answers

Kay, you ought to drop the fuel out of tank and then put some diesel in and try it. You'll have a decent sized tank in Movano but 27 litres of petrol is a bit much for the engine to handle safely. Winter time, there are people who put a gallon of petrol in full diesel tank to stop the diesel from waxing but that's only 4.5 litres.. not 27 R Evans from Caerphilly

Hi my battery went flat on my Vauxhall mavarno van and the AA came out and jumpstarted it couldn't find the terminal under the Bonnet jump started it directly off the battery I went to the garage and had an alternate to put on and I'm a central locking and indicators don't work any suggestions thanks

Answers

James mate. With respect your question might as well be in Chinese for all the sense it makes. Did you mean the AA man couldn't find the terminal? what terminal? Then you say he jumped it directly from the battery (which is what you would normally do anyway) so no problem there. When you got it to the garage do you mean you've had a new alternator fitted? If I've got that right I'm f*****g amazed but it's likely that you've just blown a couple of fuses joe bloggs from Aberdeenshire

Answers

Hi A A, there are two fuse panels. One in the cab on the passenger side behind the little ducket that you throw loose coins etc in, the other, wait for it...under the radiator expansion tank in the engine bay, yes really!!! just where you want your electrics put... NOT! I'm not sure which fuse panel the marker lights fuse is on but on my van the headlights fuse is on the engine bay one joe bloggs from Aberdeenshire

Would really appreciate it if someone could help me, I have a 2.5 engine here with the timing belt snapped a few people have said the engine is alright just get a new belt and set they timing, but would that not do a lot of damage to the engine ? And can you use that engine without replacing parts excluding timing belt, tensioners etc?

Answers

Chris, modern engines have such little tolerances that it is likely that you have damaged some internal components such as valves or piston heads.. however, a timing belt is not too expensive to try, when you compare it to the price of engine rebuild or a new one.. it IS possible that you may have been lucky and had no serious damage and for the price of a timing belt it is worth a try.. if you do it yourself.. once fitted, turn the engine over manually at least twice to check for functionality before you try starting it.. you'll soon tell if there's internal damage. Answer this question

Phil Harris, Kent

Vauxhall Movano

Hi. Wondered if anyone else had this problem . . . Have read through and not found the same . . . My 2004 movano side sliding door has slightly dropped on the left hand side when closing it. The yop of the door now touches the passenger door when its closed and there's a larger gap on the right hand side top . . . I have checked the bottom and top rollers but its not that easy to determine how much wear they have got in comparison to new ones. When the door is slightly open, i can wiggle it up and down enough to make a difference. In anyones experience, would it be better to change both rollers anyway to eliminate the roller part of the problem? Or could it be something else? Thank you in advance for your opinions. Regards, Phil.

Answers

Three things possible here, Phil..1. The rollers are shot.. 2. the assembly has dropped and needs adjustment... or 3. the arm has bent.. ... you may find that it has affected the middle roller assembly as well... put it under strain... what I'd do is open the door a little, just enough to be able to take the rollers off... then jack up the door to push it a little higher than it sits now (remember to protect the lower lip by using a block of wood or similar) then slacken the fixing bolts.. top and botton bracket.. and watch what happens.. if they go down you may just get away with it.. if they don't or can't be moved.. then your mechanisms may need changing.. you could take each bracket off (one at a time because the door will fly off) and examine the roller assemblies. What happens a fair bit is the pins that fix the roller assembly to the arm becomes loose and the alignment goes to pot.. so you may be able to use punches to fix this back.. but better to get new assembly. my van is sluggish when setting off from standstill. could this be an electrical problem or something else.it gets serviced regular.thanks.

Answers

Philip, Is this something that has happened all the time, developed over time or just come on all of a sudden? If it's been there all the time it could just be the BHP of your vehicle.. if it's just come on then it could be a fault you'll have to get diagnosed.. if it has slowly built up, then it could be clogging up of your systems over time.. servicing won't stop that, but putting a fuel system cleaner in the fuel tank may assist clearing some of the deposits and improve performance. R Evans from Caerphilly

thanks for your reply to my question ,r evans. it has come about in the last month or two.i will get a diagnosis done.thanks philip ogden from South Yorkshire

Philip.. if it's happened over the last two months (maybe been building up longer) then it could be soot build up.. try a fuel system cleaning additive first and give it a bit of wellie.. see if it makes a difference... certainly won't do it harm. R Evans from Caerphilly
