James Brown from England has sent in a question on the Vauxhall Meriva. I keep having a light on the dashboard of my Vauxhall Meriva come on but if I turn the engine off and back on it goes off. It`s the yellow car with the spanner through the middle. I have plugged in a diagnostic machine but no codes. When I have had a look at the engine it has what looks like oil leakage (where the fuel filter is it`s the pipe to the unger to the left, a big plastic pipe but I don`t know what it is? Please help? Thanks. (design 2008 1.7 tdci)

The temperature gauge on my Vauxhall Meriva does not go up much, in fact stays in cold and the heater blows cool air even though my settings are on hot. Could it be thermostat or something more expensive? All coolant levels are full. Thanks for any help. (1.6)

I have a Vauxhall Meriva. When the car warms up it jerks and splutters when I accelerate, it almost feels like a misfire, but if I drop a gear and floor it it goes. Why does it do this? (Comfort 1.6)

When I use the remote to open my Vauxhall Meriva`s doors they all unlock, even the boot opens okay, but when I go to lift the handle up to open the driver`s door it will relock itself. This only happens on the driver`s door and the only way to open the driver`s door is to use the key. The handle inside is working okay. What can I do?

Hi. I changed the water radiator on my Vauxhall Meriva as it was leaking and now the fan doesn’t kick in when the engine`s hot. As we were trying to sort this the temperature gauge suddenly went down to zero, so we switched off the car to restart it but it won’t start now. There are no codes. Please help? (1..4)

When do I need to replace the timing belt on my Vauxhall Meriva? (1.6 16v)
Hi. Important that it gets done at no more than 80,000 miles or when the car is 8 years old, which ever comes first as I found out after buying a second hand car recently - Jo Thorn from Suffolk

I drive a Vauxhall Meriva 57 plate. Over the last few days when driving on the motorway or at speed on dual carriageways I get a whistling noise coming from the left side of the car. It is intermittent and seems to either start or stop depending on the road surface. I took it to National Tyres, they looked at the front left hand wheel but could find no problems. Basically they said wait till whatever it is deteriorates to the point where they can say what is wrong or not. I was told if it was brake pads, bearings or brake disc the noise would be continuous. Anybody got any ideas?

Hi. My Vauxhall Meriva has recently started to struggle with acceleration. I am not getting over 50mph on the motorway. It especially struggles going up a bank and my engine management light is on. Any ideas? Thanks.
I know that the Meriva 54 plate has an autistic 50 mph limit when the service or engine management is on. If any of these lights are displayed at all - try and take the car over 50 mph when they aren’t on (if ever they do go out) and see if this is why. I can’t remember why it was happening to me but I know it wasn’t a huge expensive problem - Keely Blackmore from Vale of Glamorgan

My Vauxhall Meriva`s heater is not working, the temperature is up but I could also smell a burning smell. What could be wrong?
Same problem with my 06 Meriva. Check to see if your coolant level is low. If the engine is running hot your heater will not work because the engine fan is running trying to keep it cool. See if you have a white substance under the oil cap. Could be a leaking head gasket. Engine oil mixing with coolant. Don’t leave it too long if this is the case. You will ruin the engine. - D C from Wales

I can’t open my Vauxhall Meriva`s tailgate from outside using the electronic handle? It’s a keyless tailgate and all the fuses are okay. Please help?

Hi. I just bought a used Vauxhall Meriva from a dealer and there was no cigarette lighter in it but the fitting was there. I was told by the dealer that these came without a lighter unless purchased when the car was first sold new. Does anyone know if this is correct or am I being fed duff info by a car salesman?

My Vauxhall Meriva is not starting after running hot. The car is not overheating. I can drive 3km and when it`s running temperature is reached the car cuts out and doesn’t want to start. After replacing the coil, petrol and oil filters it still doesn’t want to start when the engine gets hot. What can the problem be? Thank you.

Hi, I have a Vauxhall Meriva 1.7 CDTi. I filled up with fuel yesterday, drove about 20 miles on the motorway and then as I tried to overtake I got a loss of power. The car wouldn’t do above 50mph. After about 3 miles it slowed even more. Every timeIi tried to accelerate it seemed to pull back and I had to pull over and call recovery. I took it to the garage who tested for faults but no faults were showing. No dashboard lights either. I have only had this 2 months and it has driven brilliantly until this. Any ideas? (1.7 CDTi)
Check that it’s nothing to do with your turbo. Something similar happened to mine in the summer. I found out there had been a part issue with the turbo pipe, which had to be replaced (bit late for mine, as mine actually needed a new turbo due to the damage). I’ve got a 2010 Meriva B 1.4 turbo and the turbo pipe was full of gunge etc. Good luck! - Mary Hunter from Renfrewshire
Sounds like you have put petrol in it instead of diesel? - Dave Dawson from Lincolnshire

Hi. My Vauxhall Meriva`s boot door will only lift with manual effort - it won’t spring up and when I do open it, I have to hold it up as it would just slam shut otherwise. I’m thinking the hydraulics must have stopped working, but my local garage says I need to replace both the arms - which seems okay except they didn’t say if they were what operated the hydraulics. I just wondered if anyone else had experienced this and how they got it fixed? One day it was fine, next day, so spring to open the tailgate. At least it does operate, but at the moment I prop it open with a washing line prop so I can get buggies and dogs in and out - not ideal Any suggestions? (1.4)

I have water leaking into the driver`s footwell of my Vauxhall Meriva, nowhere else. Can anybody help please as Arnold Clark are not interested?
Hi, I’m having the same poblem and am at present working through various solutions. Also I notice water drippimg from under the car when parked downhill or on steep camber. Car drives ok, just an annoying fault. We are trying the air con drainage tube, which can become blocked next. If I get success with this I will pass it on. - John Bridges from Devon

Hi. I have a dashboard light on my Vauxhall Meriva which is on all of the time showing a car and spanner. What could the problem be and is it an expensive thing to fix? (1.6)
This light indicates that you may have a problem with the engine electronics, there can be several causes. Best to get it checked out by either your local Vauxhall Retailer or who ever does your regular service. They must have a diagnostic device which connects to a lap-top and tells the mechanic which component is at fault. I recently had mine checked out and it cost £60 for the check alone. Repair cost depends on what has failed. - Bill Thacker from England

My Vauxhall Meriva when it gets hot makes a kangaroo hop at slow speed and then stalls. When I stop it won’t start. Then when it does it sputters and stalls again when I take my foot off the accelerator. What’s the problem?
Going by what I think you mean by kangaroo hopping lol - I had a similar problem with a previous car which got worse over a short amount of time and it turned out to be the clutch! Keely Blackmore from Vale of Glamorgan

How do I replace the cigarette lighter fuse in my Vauxhall Meriva so my sat nav will work?
The fuse box is over in the passenger side under the glove box which would be next to the (if it was closed) there should be a cover for you to pull off. If you have a look in your car manual it has a diagram of which fuse is for what. I have a manual if you need/want me to check which one you need to change? Keely Blackmore from Wales

The problem with my 2004 Vauxhall Opel Meriva is that there is a clicking sound when I try to start my car. After 2 or 3 attempts the car starts or I have to push start it. If the engine cools down there is no problem starting it, but once it`s been running and I then switch off and start it again then the clicking sound comes back. Either I have to push start it or wait till the engine cools down. Can anyone please suggest a solution to my problem?Thank you in advance.

A couple of people have said they can feel the heat coming from my car (outside) when they are standing talking through my window. This has been on both sides. I’ve never known this with any other car Ive owned, and I’m wondering if it’s a problem. The bonnet gets very hot, but I assume that is normal, with engine heat. (Exclusiv)

Please help, bought a 2011 plate Meriva but got no manual... been to put diesel in it and got 3 icons all the same in the mileage ’window’ which looks to me like a car and skyscrapers? Any ideas? Thanks.
Seat belt indicator in rear tells you that there not being used, then they go off? Gary Mason from Essex
Jo, I’m similarly confused. But I think those icons are supposed to represent the rear seatbelts - I only found this out through experimenting, if you fasten one of the rear seat belts and then close all the doors you should see one of those icons disappear - Mark from England

My Vauxhall Meriva`s tailgate is closed and the lock is not responding. It won’t unlock and I can’t open it with the door handle, there is no movement. Does anyone have any suggestions please?
Two possibles. If you have the 2006 model with electric operated latch (not just the lock) there is sometimes a software glitch in the system. If this is the case, turn the ignition on and back off and it should reset everything. If the central locking is not activating the lock on the tailgate (ie you can not hear the mechanism moving when you press the remote button on the key) there is a strong chance of a wiring fault. The wiring to the tailgate passes through a grommet at roof height. Over time the cables that pass through the grommet fail due to the constant flexing as the tailgate is opened and closed. Need to locate the break in the cable and repair it. - Conrad Jones from Swansea
The same thing happened to my 06 Meriva, except it had also damaged the wires to the brake bulbs, so it meant that rear tailgate opening was intermittent, and also that every time I pressed the brake pedal the brake light fuse blew! Have a look at the wires at the top left of the rear of the tailgate (dead simple to find and check) before you pay a garage silly money!! The peplacement loom is cheap to buy and an hours job to fit yourself! Good luck - Simon from Dorset
