My brake lights are stuck on when i shut the car boot, but work fine when the boot is open? Does anyone know why this has started happening?

Answers

The loom for the high level brake light which goes to the l/h side of the boot lid via a flexible rubber connector is prone to break and short out when the boot lid is open and shut. The problem I had was the brake light fuse blew intermittently and I had to repair the damaged wiring, this could be the cause of your problem it's worth checking. Philip Jones from Cornwall

I had the same problem. Local main dealer was hopeless, suggested changing steering rack at huge cost. Our local small back street mechanic changed the alternator - problem solved. It transpired the alternator wasn't supplying enough power to the electronics on the electrically powered steering column (stupid design). No problems since. Hope this helps. D Golby from Somerset

I had the same problem on an 05 reg Meriva last year and phoned Vauxhall customer service who advised me to take it to my local dealer and if a certain code came up on their diagnostic machine they would cover the repairs free of charge which they did. In my case the EPS light did come on - if you google you will see that this is a common problem with Merivas - may be worth phoning vauxhall on 0800 0260034 to see if they can help as a safety issue following the Watchdog programme - Good Luck!! Hello, When I am braking (not all the time) the pedal seems to jump as it gives the sensation as though its an electric shock. Any idea what it can be?

Answers

If it feels like a road drill under your foot it may be the anti-lock braking mechanism working. This happens any time one wheel is not rotating (locked up) when the others are turning. It usually means that there is a patch of ice or oil on the road and that wheel isn't gripping. John from West Midlands

Hi, I recently took delivery of my 2014 Meriva. I notice then when I indicate left, the front day lights on the left goes out, until I turn the indicator off. The same happens when I turn right. Is this correct Thanks Mike.

Answers

It is correct. Many other cars with daytime running lights do the same, one reason is it allows the indicator to be seen properly. Charlie from West Sussex

Hi, I have a 54 plate 1.6 Meriva. With error code p0230. It runs till engine warms to normal temp, then it just switches off and won't start till its cooled again. Any suggestions how to fix this fault? I've read it is the fuel pump relay circuit - So how do I go about fixing this? What do I need to replace?

Answers

Hi Anna , I'm assuming that you haven't worked on any vehicles before. The problem is your head gasket that has gone. I'm From South Africa and it cost me R280, also your cars head will have to be Skimmed (shaved). Best that i would suggest is if it is under warranty take it back to them. Good luck Craig Craig from South Africa

Hi, no I haven't but my dad is a mechanic and said by the sound of it, it could be a possible ecu failure and that it is a common fault on these cars. I will be sending the ecu off to be checked soon, if my new fuel pump relay doesn't fix the problem. When it finally arrives. P0230 is fuel pump primary circuit malfunction - so how do you figure it's my head gasket that's gone? Thanks anna from Nottinghamshire

Earlier and maybe more recent Merivas are reported as having at least two serious and potentially dangerous manufacturing faults; EPS and water pump failure seem to be the most reported. These failures will obviously result in big repair bills if they occur. Several respondents mention that Vauxhall has paid for rectification of these faults but apparently it depends on how old the car is. It would be interesting to know if there is a cut-off point regarding year of manufacture before which date the buyer of the used Meriva has no chance of redress if these faults occur. It would also be interesting to view any statistics regarding the incidence of such failures; are they rare or common occurrences?

Meriva Exclusive CDTi Auto 2011 - not an estate When I start the car in the 'Drivers Information Centre' there are occasionally 3 identical lights which illuminates directly to the right of the P R N or D and I can not find them in the Owners Manual. Sometimes they go out quickly and sometimes remain for a while. Also sometimes only the middle one is illuminated. What they look like is difficult to explain - you could say they look like steering wheels or tires with almost like a NY Skyline behind. It would be greatly appreciated if you could you gave me an explanation and advice as to should I be taking any action because of these lights? With thanks and appreciation
