2011 Meriva S E ...........Fuel flap will not lock cant find how to get into to check it.....................tried removing tool kit box no luck removed back light no luck............im baffled any ideas
Open the fuel door and look for two or three screws securing it. Remoce the screws and partially lift out the door. You should see a lever or pin which may need re-set or replaced. Hugh from City of Glasgow

Problem off and on since new from the Vauxhall dealer, 2014; when manoeuvring slowly, as in slowing down to park or go through narrow gateway the engine cuts out and will not restart for several minutes. Warning light comes on, especially the inspection light (looks like a lamp?) but the garage say nothing is wrong. (They now offer a good deal on another car!) I replaced the battery recently as that kept going flat but since the sunroof blind fuse has been removed (by another garage) that seems better. It’s only just done 7000 miles and is lovely otherwise, except heavy on petrol. . I hoped it would last me forever but this cutting out is a nightmare!
If you have only done 7,000 miles in three years you are not using the car enough to clean out all the deposits etc which accumulate. Try taking the car for a good run eg 30 miles. Use the lower gears eg cruise about 60 mph in 4th gear, not 6th. Accelerate hard through the gears - an "Italian Tune Up" it will probably make the car run a whole lot better. Do this at least once a month. Hugh from City of Glasgow
Don't know how to reply to kind person Hugh, from Glasgow who replied to me questions...but just wanted to say, part of the low mileage is because the car was delivered when I had 3 cracked vertebrae and neither it nor I went anywhere for 6 months…and for a year after that I was still a full time carer and only did short runs. But in the last year it has done 25 miles in both directions at least once every week, and some much longer ….into 100s both way….runs too. But I agree, under using it could be part of the trouble. It didn’t happen to the previous Corsa - 6 years only 6000 miles though! Before that, caring full time for my dad for 14 years I drove around several schools a day for 32 years, still each stage quite short journeys, and I didn’t have any problems like this. In fact I didn’t have any car problems at all. Now I have treated myself to by far the most expensive car so far - that was partly because my 99 year old father could get in and out of it more easily…but I was planning to travel a lot eventually…and this is happening. It’s very nerve wracking with it stopping like this! I will ask the garage to give it a good clean out and drive as you suggest. (I do drive quite fast when I am on my own!) And thanks very much for responding! Susan Susan from Pembrokeshire

I was wondering what would be the problem if my heating isn't working even though the water temp is reading slap bang in the middle where it should be. I couldn't see the option for my vehicle in the drop downs which is a 2011 1.4 Petrol Meriva Exclusiv.

Hi when drove about a mile a car apears with a spanner why please
Sounds like the Service Vehicle Soon warning light. Take it to a VX dealer and have it read for fault codes and re-set. Hugh from City of Glasgow

In the hand-book, the high level brake light is not listed. Anyone know how I change the bulb?
High level rear brake lights are usually LED's rather than bulbs. You may have to change the whole light. Hugh from City of Glasgow

Bought my 05 1.6 16v meriva for the kids to learn to drive in, however has developed the following faults. When cold that car start first time but once hot the car will not restart. I've replaced the cank sensor but no luck there still the same fault. And the dash goes dead intermittently speedo, rev counter engine temp. What causes this? Would like to know before I put some petrol and matches to it. Thanks in advance Barrie
Could be the cold start mechanism playing up so when it's hot it's getting too much fuel and not enough air. The dashboard problem is likely to be the standard Vauxhall printed circuit board drying out. Mick from Portugal

Hi people need your help. Had this car for just over 2 weeks. The car turns over but i have a F on the dash, wont go into gear (auto) and i also have the amber car with spanner flashing. Dont know whats going on.....tried to code read it with a obd but no codes recorded, i also done the pedal test and 3 codes came up but not sure if they are because of the problem or maybe a previous problem. Codes are P1116, P1600 and P1700. Someone please help ??
A search on the internet will reveal what the codes mean. 1116 is to do with coolant, 1600 is to do with oxygen, 1700 is fuel. As you need a mix of oxygen and fuel for the engine to start that is most likely where the problem starting is. Mick from Portugal

Rear door warning light and alarm going off. Also central locking constantly chattering. Dealership got four codes and have replaced earth strap on battery. Problem still exist. They charge £100 for that. Now want it back to run more tests and state may need new wiring loom ££££££ ? Can't afford lots of ££££ on guess work. I am told this is a common problem but can't find the solution. Anyone had these issues or know what the fault may be???
I don't know the answer to this one but if you find out will you let me know as I have the exact same problem. More so when there direct sun on the car. Was beginning to think my car was the only one that did it. Gill From Lancashire from Lancashire

Oil leak at bottom of engine whats the problem my mechanic says it has to be stripped down and should change the clutch when hes in there incase i need it changed at a later date .he says if i did he would have to strip this section down again . He says i could save me money in long run.is that the case ?
He's probably telling you the truth. If the engine is leaking oil at the rear then there's a chance it could have contaminated the clutch plate. It would be better to let him strip it down and at least check it while he's in there and if it needs replacing it will save you double labour. Sad fact of modern life is that a lot of people don't trust mechanics even though they don't know anything about cars themselves. Hugh from City of Glasgow

When the petrol light comes on how many miles will the car do before it runs out of fuel? thanks
You will have about 4 or 5 litres of fuel left when the light comes on, enough for 20 to 30 miles, perhaps more if you are on a motorway driving economically. Please remember that your fuel pump is in the tank and it needs to be submerged in fuel to keep it cool. It is dangerous to always let it run low so you should fill up at the earliest opportunity once the light comes on. Hugh from City of Glasgow

Why will my boot not open when I unlock the car using central locking
On a lot of Vauxhalls you can isolate the boot from the central locking by turning the boot lock with the key to a certain position. Your handbook should show you if you have this and if so what position to set the lock (key opening either horizontal or vertical). Mick from Portugal

Why does my Meriva stall after 20 minutes when warmed up. Drove it about 6 miles and stopped. Went to it 10 minutes later and it would not start. Left it all day and it started fine again. It also stops after 20 minutes on tick over.

Both front side lights are not working. I have changed the bulbs and checked the fuses and all are ok. However, I did notice two other bulbs in the sidelight well - both blue. Can anyone help because it is driving me nuts?
It does seem to be more common than Vauxhall let on. I've had both RAC and AA attend - and they both know the trick - and both said: "Oh yeah, I've been to a few of these. These and Corsas" So I'm sure they know. The key, I think, is to have the car recovered to a dealer when the issue happens, instead of fixing it ourselves and thereby clearing the fault. Trouble is, it's never really convienient to do that is it. I just keep a 10mm ring spanner in the glove box now but if it happens at a time that I'm not too bothered I'm going to get the car recovered to the dealer to check when the fault is actually happening and with the immobilizer light on. Disappointing because otherwise I actually quite like the car for what I need. Lee from Staffordshire

Intermittent non-start issue. Seems to happen once every 4 months - certainly occurred now 3 times in 12 months of ownership. Turn key and there's nothing - no engine crank but all lights on dash are fine, except for flashing immobilizer warning. So, if I disconnect the battery, touch the terminals together for about 30 seconds, then leave disconnected for about a minute and reconnect battery the car starts perfectly. I'm then left with codes for electric windows which I clear by opening and closing each window to reset one-touch action. So, it seems to me that there's some kind of issue with the ECU not clearing itself? All I'm essentially doing is a reset. Dealer checked it at MOT time but, obviously, all was working and couldn't replicate the fault. Anyone shed some light on what can be done? - other than pre-emptively flashing the battery/ecu once a month or so to keep it cleared down.
This has happened 4 times with my 2013 Meriva bought from new. Did the battery terminal trick to get it started and the window codes appeared etc. The Vauxhall garage said they couldn't do anything as the computer memory had been wiped. This last time (today) I didn't touch it, called the AA who did the full diagnostic test. It show 1 fault in the central electrical system. Took the car to the Vauxhall garage to sort it out. They could find no fault in the system!!! I'm dis-pleased to say the least! Surely, if this has happened to many Meriva drivers then Vauxhall must have some clue as to what the fault is??? Sorry I haven't provided an answer to your question. Can anyone else help????? Chris P. from Devon

Batery light stays on.do not want to start.all fuses ok.New starter altenator tested and is charging.what can be wrong?
Hi, I had a non start problem on a 2010 1.4 petrol, turned out to be a "common problem", check the fuel relay in the box under the bonnet / engine bay. If the terminals are black and burnt it's a poor contact problem. Try cleaning them up if there not too badly pitted, you may need to replace it. I called the AA out, on mine they said a number of these had dodgy contacts in the relay box and told me to complain to the dealer it came from as this was something they see a lot of. So of course the dealer said they had never come across this before! I slightly bent the terminals on my relay so it became a tight fit to get it back in, and it never caused me a problem again. Hope this helps. Ken from Suffolk

Hi Guys Not really sure about the engine size . The other day while driving the vehicle , the oil light came on and the engine started knocking . within a few minutes the light went off and the sound too. This happened three times in a row , each time when the engine was cold . I took it to the dealership , they couldn't find anything . oil was full , filter looked good . I had them changed the oil and filter ,belts have been well maintained. The engine has 40,000 miles . Since driving it home it seems ok . I was thinking it may be the oil pump or maybe the sensor ? does the pump drive the sensor or the sensor drive the pump? thank you John from rio de janeiro
