After leaving the car for a while it will restart, yet as the temperature gets to the 80 mark it will cut out again. Boot lid doesn't open. It's the model without key so the only way to open it is to press a button on the handle.I have replaced the boot handle (microswitch) and actuator (electric motor ) but the problem persists. As far as I could see the actuator turns only one way, towards the locked position. I have checked the wiring loom and none of the cables are completely severed however the plastic protection on a few of them is broken so that I can see the wire inside. It seems that the actuator only receives the signal to lock even if I press the unlock button on the remote control. I'm not sure how the unlock command gets to the actuator. Any suggestions on what the problem might be? Lacking other ideas I was thinking to replace the wiring loom but I'm not sure if that will solve the problem. Thanks!

I have a VX Meriva with the "suicide" doors. Twice now I have driven off and the back doors have not been closed properly and they have swung open and caused considerable damage to parked cars and the doors themselves have to be replaced as they crumple back like sardine cans on impact. Does the Meriva have an alert sound or light to advise that a door is still open before you take off as mine obviously doesn't! Can anyone assist on this. Thanks

Answers

Assuming things are working correctly on your vehicle, you should get an audible alarm sound and the display between the rev counter and odometer should show a doors open image. If you are not getting either, then you have a fault with the car that needs looking into. Ken from Suffolk

On turning ignition on in the morning there is a pump like noise and last for about 2minuts before depress clutch to start is this the heating of the glow plug procedure. And after driving for a while and switching engine of it sounds like it has been running all the time. I have no users manual with the car to check all switches and not sure how the crews control work or if it works at all.

Answers

try YouTube for instructions they have help for most thing for cars That what I do. you can actually get free download for user manual. as for crews control don't know if all the same, but on my meriva you have 3 controls . 1 is the on off switch 2nd has a X on which clears the speed you set to 3rd is the speed controller when on will not work in first gear will not work under 20mph to set the speed you can do 2 things you should have a switch that move up and down when at the speed you like to set with switch in centre position press switch in, a light should show on dash it is activated. to increase speed press switch forward and hold until desire speed reached to slow down press back or down. slowing is better done by clear switch braking and reset slows when braking or changing gear cruise de-activates but just press control switch forward and will auto go to last speed set hope this some use as for other problem no idea hope someone else can help on this John Smith from Derbyshire

Evening. Recently bought a Mervia, have a question about the locking mechanism. After I have driven, I get out of the drivers seat, shut my door and then go to open the passenger door to get my child out of the car. However, the door is always locked and I have to unlock the door with the fob before I can get him out. Is this how it should function?

Answers

Hi, check your locking functions on the dashboard. There is a choice -drivers door or whole car unlock. Hope this helps :-) Adie from Conwy

I have the same problem and i don't have locking functions on the dashboard.... Marius from South Yorkshire

The functions are on your radio to change door locks, not on your dashboard, press configuration on the radio controls. Bails from Blackpool

Keep getting code 22 when putting either side lights or headlights on but garage checked it and all bulbs are working fine.

The bulb(s) could be near the end of their life and now have a higher resistance than a new bulb. Either just replace both bulbs OR Swap left for right bulb and see if you get a code 21 instead. Tony from Cheshire

the car seems to use more fuel and burning oil as we have no leaks, help

Answers

Trust me, ALL Meriva's burn oil. It's what they do. I get through 4 litres approx every 3-4 months. There is no leak anywhere. Engine bay is spotless. On discussing this with both Vauxhall and Halfords technicians, it's just what the Meriva's engine does. You can try to clean out crankcase breather, but mine was fine. Small price to pay for what is a relatively reliable engine. Paul from Kent

I have a 2012 1.3 diesel Meriva for 19 months, been to Spain and back 8 times, used it in Spain and here, has NEVER used any oil. So am I lucky with this one or are the service people telling lies? Louis Lewis from Caerphilly

the esp light keeps coming on and we lose the power sterring, anybody have any ideas? thanks

Answers

Mine started doing it...as time went on it was doing it more frequent. If you google it its a common fault on Mireva. Watchdog did a piece on it. Vauxhall would not recall the vehicles. I contacted customer services who assigned me a garage to take my car into to have it diagnosed. It came back as a fault on the Torque senser. Vauxhall replaced the whole steering rack free of charge......they were bril. paul robinson from Greater Manchester

Open the fuel door and look for two or three screws securing it. Remoce the screws and partially lift out the door. You should see a lever or pin which may need re-set or replaced. Hugh from City of Glasgow

No screws visable this model of mariva has the backward opening doors still looking for answers chas from Hampshire

The fuel door locking motor is probably faulty. Do you hear a click from the fuel flap area when locking the car?? You can access the flap lock by removing the wheel arch liner. I have had mine replaced by a wrokshop, a lot easier. Tony from Cheshire

Problem off and on since new from the Vauxhall dealer, 2014; when manoeuvring slowly, as in slowing down to park or go through narrow gateway the engine cuts out and will not restart for several minutes. Warning light comes on, especially the inspection light (looks like a lamp?) but the garage say nothing is wrong. (They now offer a good deal on another car!) I replaced the battery recently as that kept going flat but since the sunroof blind fuse has been removed (by another garage) that seems better. It’s only just done 7000 miles and is lovely otherwise, except heavy on petrol. . I hoped it would last me forever but this cutting out is a nightmare!

Answers

If you have only done 7,000 miles in three years you are not using the car enough to clean out all the deposits etc which accumulate. Try taking the car for a good run eg 30 miles. Use the lower gears eg cruise about 60 mph in 4th gear, not 6th. Accelerate hard through the gears - an "Italian Tune Up" it will probably make the car run a whole lot better. Do this at least once a month. Hugh from City of Glasgow

Don't know how to reply to kind person Hugh, from Glasgow who replied to me questions...but just wanted to say, part of the low mileage is because the car was delivered when I had 3 cracked vertebrae and neither it nor I went anywhere for 6 months…and for a year after that I was still a full time carer and only did short runs. But in the last year it has done 25 miles in both directions at least once every week, and some much longer ….into 100s both way….runs too. But I agree, under using it could be part of the trouble. It didn’t happen to the previous Corsa - 6 years only 6000 miles though! Before that, caring full time for my dad for 14 years I drove around several schools a day for 32 years, still each stage quite short journeys, and I didn’t have any problems like this. In fact I didn’t have any car problems at all. Now I have treated myself to by far the most expensive car so far - that was partly because my 99 year old father could get in and out of it more easily…but I was planning to travel a lot eventually…and this is happening. It’s very nerve wracking with it stopping like this! I will ask the garage to give it a good clean out and drive as you suggest. (I do drive quite fast when I am on my own!) And thanks very much for responding! Susan Susan from Pembrokeshire

Bought my 05 1.6 16v meriva for the kids to learn to drive in, however has developed the following faults. When cold that car start first time but once hot the car will not restart. I've replaced the cank sensor but no luck there still the same fault. And the dash goes dead intermittently speedo, rev counter engine temp. What causes this? Would like to know before I put some petrol and matches to it. Thanks in advance Barrie

Answers

Could be the cold start mechanism playing up so when it's hot it's getting too much fuel and not enough air. The dashboard problem is likely to be the standard Vauxhall printed circuit board drying out. Mick from Portugal

Hi people need your help. Had this car for just over 2 weeks. The car turns over but i have a F on the dash, wont go into gear (auto) and i also have the amber car with spanner flashing. Dont know whats going on.....tried to code read it with a obd but no codes recorded, i also done the pedal test and 3 codes came up but not sure if they are because of the problem or maybe a previous problem. Codes are P1116, P1600 and P1700. Someone please help ??

Answers

A search on the internet will reveal what the codes mean. 1116 is to do with coolant, 1600 is to do with oxygen, 1700 is fuel. As you need a mix of oxygen and fuel for the engine to start that is most likely where the problem starting is. Mick from Portugal

Oil leak at bottom of engine whats the problem my mechanic says it has to be stripped down and should change the clutch when hes in there incase i need it changed at a later date .he says if i did he would have to strip this section down again . He says i could save me money in long run.is that the case ?

Answers

He's probably telling you the truth. If the engine is leaking oil at the rear then there's a chance it could have contaminated the clutch plate. It would be better to let him strip it down and at least check it while he's in there and if it needs replacing it will save you double labour. Sad fact of modern life is that a lot of people don't trust mechanics even though they don't know anything about cars themselves. Hugh from City of Glasgow
