Hi. I bought my 59 insignia 2 weeks ago and realised smoke out of exhaust when putting my foot down. Also when I reversed. It was fine when idleing. Then I set off to work and heard a sharp noise at 30mph and the car just started to judder as if it was trying to stall. Managed to limp it home but all the time fighting it from stalling. Literally crawling at 10mph... Loads of smoke. Does anyone have any idea what this could point to? TIA

I've got a 2014 CTDI SRI VRX and its regularly serviced. But whilst driving home from work and not stuck in any traffic and without any previous problems or warning, the engine overheated and instructed me to turn the engine off. I did this straight away as to avoid engine damage. Oil and water all fine and no sign of leaks, but after letting the engine cool for approximate half hour, sounded like a bag of spanners when tried to restart, also instructing me to turn it off again, so car had to be recovered. What could be the cause please? Will this still be covered by manufacturers warranty if serious/expensive? Thanks

Answers

just had the exactly the same issue on mine. its not leaking or overheting. its in the workshop now. i believe is the coolant temperature sensor. will let you know asap. did you get to the bottom of your problem? Vasos Chrysostomou from Dorset

I actually have the 120 63 plate model and I have now had the vehicle go into an engine overheat fault on three separate occasions. Each time it happened on a motorway and the vehicle would drop from 70mph to 20mph without any prior warning lights. Vauxhall had problems identifying what the first fault was and had to get one of their supertech to work on the car. They eventually replaced the exhaust temperature sensor. The fault occurred again and they said it was the second sensor that had failed. Less than 6 months later the fault occurred again and they have replaced a sensor again. Has anyone else had these issues?

I had a similar issue. On first starting the car it was ok until I hit 3000 revs then it lost power and wouldnt rev over 3000rpm. I found a split in the vacuum advance hose. Fixed this and the problem went away. Patrick Murray from West Midlands

Hi I have a Vauxhall insignia 1.8 petrol 2008 model, at times it wont start after driving it. I will place the key in the ignition and it shows that there is a spark it kind of starts but cuts out and there no sensor codes that come on the dashboard but then after a good few hours the car will start without any problems. AA had looked at it and said its a fuel pump issue as they witness the car not starting after various attempts. One of the mechanic I took it to witnessed it once but after it started again after an 1hour he does not think it is the fuel pump and another mechanic that looked at it thinks that its the sensor on the exhaust is overheating, but the other mechanic doesn't think this is the problem as well . I have taken it Vauxhall and they don't seem to know as it started with them when left overnight with them. The other two mechanics have the same problem that looked at it as it started after a few hours. Please could someone help ..

Wondering if anyone can help. I have a year old Insignia. ( just new to us) an error warning has just started to pop up on the central display. It reads 'system communication error. Communication problem has occurred with the climate system. This may fix itself. Restarting the vehicle may also fix the problem' Because the error keeps appearing I am presuming its not fixing itself. Does anyone have any experience of this or do I throw myself at the mercy of the dealer? Is there a quick fix? Thanks

My Vauxhaull insignia cdti Sri battery won't keep its charge I can take it for long drive turn it off then turn it back on to start again straight away but it's flat as a fart and no lights on dash anyone know what's causing this

Answers

get the battery tested for charge holding.. the cheapest option to replace.. then test the alternator output.. but before changing either (or both) check all the contacts are clean and good R Evans from Caerphilly

Will try that thank you Shaun from East Riding of Yorkshire

If AA or RAC member give them a call they will test battery for you. I had the same problem and it was the battery!! Lot cheaper than having a new alternator!!! Battery can be expensive though as they are high current'm Rhys Hughes from Rhondda Cynon Taf

Hi Martin, I have similar problem with my 2009 130bhp diesel with 75k on the clock. Cleaned EGR valve and adjacent pipe, cleaned the butterfly valve above the EGR valve, cleaned the boost sensor, replaced the MAF sensor with a new one but engine still goes into erratic mode and judders at various speeds. Now going to change the Air and Fuel filters with genuine GM parts to see if this cures problem. Engine shows no fault codes. I have requested info. from Vauxhall Customer Care, but they seem a bit slow to respond. Seems to me that Vauxhall should come clean about this type of issue as many of use seem to have the same problem. Ken T from Tyne and Wear
