Answer this question

Jane, South Yorkshire

Vauxhall Insignia

I've had alot of problems with my insignia every time it won't get out of limb mode, it won't go over 2000 revs and I've had it in the garage 4 times now each costing me over 100 pounds I really need to find out why it's doing this..... could you please help. Thank u

Answers

Jane, when you take the car to the garage, have they not connected it to a diagnostic machine to find out what errors are stored in the ecu? The reason it went into limp mode should be stored! R Evans from Caerphilly

Yes they put it on diagnostic and fix it with what it says then as soon as I get it back it goes straight into limb mode again it's really getting me down now because I can't keep spending money on it, the last time I took it in on Friday the garage rang vauxhall and they said it might need a software update but I don't trust perrys at all. Jane from South Yorkshire

Agree with R Evans the diagnostice machine will identify the problem immediately. Whats causing it go into limb mode is your engine management system. It will regulate your speed to prevent further damage to the engine until the problem is fixed. You don't have to go to a main dealer. Take you car to a reputable local garage in your area and you will get a better service. Main dealers are renowned for ripping people off. If it is still under warranty theproblem should be fixed for free under your waranty agreement. charlie buckingham from Swansea

Thank you for your help but the guys at the garage are saying they have put it on the machine and it's not coming up with anything so I had to go to the deal coz they think it's something to do with an undate Jane from South Yorkshire

Right so car cuts out occasionally, goes into tick over mode, pull over, turn off, restart car okay but service light comes on. Taken to garage, serviced and as far as aware was sorted. this has happened a couple of times. The last time the garage said the injectors needed to be cleaned but having done that the service light stayed on and they said the Glow Plug needed replacing. Less than 3,000 miles later the same problem happens. Taken back to garage. Investigated and said number 2 injector needed replacing for £392. Job done they took it over to a Vauxhall garage to be coded However this is what Vauxhall have reported "we have carried out a check for engine fault and found the dpf pipe has split and there is a diesel knock on engine , carried out test steps with our t.i.s equipment found injectors are over fuelling and has blocked the dpf causing pipe to split, tested injectors and found them to be faulty, replaced 4 injectors and dpf pipe , cleaned out diesel particle filter, engine started up ok but wont run due to dpf still blocked, unable to clean out dpf , req new part , price for all parts and labour £2900.0 inc vat" So a bill of £392 has gone to £2.900 Does this sound feasible as we drove the cart into the garage. Pulling our hair out as there is still finance on the car it has done less than 70,000 miles THANK YOU for reading

Answers

Check if car is still under warranty. If not write letter of complaint to Vauxhall complaints office. Don't accept this, it is nonsense. If the garage had put the car on the diagnostic machine they would have found the problem immediately. charlie buckingham from Swansea

Ive tried 2 different accessories in my 'cigarette lighter' socket and my USB socket and none of them will turn on. I wanted to use my car video camera for a journey that works perfectly well in my old Land Rover ( output 12v ) but refuses to fire up in the Insignia. Ive only had this car a few months bought from a dealership. My manual says its 12v output any ideas what it might be?

Answers

Most likely to be a fuse. If not the socket could be faulty(not uncommon) and needs replacing charlie buckingham from Swansea

i just bought my insnigia 1.8 vvt and i took it back to the garage when the same ting happened to me he had to replace the wheel baring hub and a new sensor mark from West Lothian

Its your brake sensor. It has either moved out of position or needs replacing. Cheap to replace and must be set exactly in correct position(spacing) otherwise it won't work and your warning lights will stay on. Its only a 10 minute job at the garage. charlie buckingham from Swansea

Does anyone have problems with their diesel insignia burning excessive engine oil. Got a 15 plate 2.0 litre diesel and only had a short time and read out on dash says used 10% of engine oil in a week from being filled up.

This is how much oil life left. when serviced reset to 100% this goes down with miles and type of use oil should still be checked for quantity on dip stick. John from Scottish Borders

My car is doing a humming noise, usually when I'm stopping. If I accelerate, the humming noise stops. It usually does the noise when I'm not in aceleration, or with a gear engaged. Anyone has any idea what this might be?

Answers

I have the same problem with my insignia, following your post, any information would be helpful and appreciated. Nicky from West Yorkshire

Check the boost control solenoid valve that is situated in the engine bay behind the slam panel, I had a similar noise vibration and actually had it happen when I was outside the car and could feel the vibration at the front of the car. It is a common failure, change the valve and it will fix the problem. Tony Mills from Warwickshire

on my dash it states, cleaning exhaust filter, carry on driving, do I have to get it checked out or does it clean it self ?

Answers

Because it is a high performance engine and if you are only doing short runs soot build s up around your exhaust converter. Best thing to do is take it out on a clear road and give it a burn(run at high revs) for a couple of minutes and it will clear itself. Do that once a week to prevent the soot build-up. charlie buckingham from Swansea

Answers

When trying to open the door if the door handle moves freely it will mean that it has either disconnected from the inside door mechanism. Remove the inside door trim(just unclip) and have a look. You should be able to easily see whare the problem is. Might only be a simple thing like a connect pin has dropped out. charlie buckingham from Swansea

can any one help , my car runs fine but as soon as i put my foot down to accelerate quickly it goes into limp mode and the service engine soon light comes on ,once i turn off the engine and restart it every thing goes back to normal again

Answers

John, a common reason for this is the turbo actuator sticking.. it is a rod that operated the turbo opening.. if it sticks there's not enough turbo boost and the ecu detects a fault.. you can clean it and lube it with releasing oil like WD40 just to free it then apply coppergrease and work it in. it this does not solve the problem and you have a diesel, it might be an EGR valve clogging up with soot. To help clear soot run your car with revs at about 3000rpm for a few miles.. it will feel unnatural and you'll want to change gear, but it gets the system hot and burns off the soot better. This is also ok for a DPF regeneration which could also be your problem (for diesels). you may find using a fuel system cleaner like Redex might assist... And you can overdose once in a while... i.e. put double the recommended amount R Evans from Caerphilly

ive had this & the garage detected air mass flow meter fault. I swapped this (easy) but the problem persisted. I later found a split in the intercooler hose (l/h side near battery from intercooler to inlet manifold) this gives the same error as air flow meter fault. don't pay Vauxhall prices £130 for flow meter, about the same for the hose- you can get both genuine from ebay for £65 & £35 respectively. pete sims from Lincolnshire

Also check wiring to injectors (injector no3) common fault is the wiring/plug degrades and a modified plug maybe needed. Try moving the plug while the engine is running and see if the engine sounds any different. A replacement plug is approx £10. Jd from Lincolnshire

I have an Insignia SRI Estate and the bootswitch has stopped working. I understand this is common but I can't see how to manually open fromthe inside. All the other comments are for different models and thry don't seem to coincide with what mine looks like on the inside. Please help!

Answers

Drop the back seats and remove parcel shelf crawl in and you will see a small rubber gromet slightly right from the center down near the boot lock. Pick it off with a screwdriver and when you shine a torch in you will see a small lever with a hole in it push that lever away from yourself with screwdriver and boot should open. I have had to do it but still haven't fixed problem. Afraid to go to dealer as I bought second hand. Mine's an Sri estate too. Andrew from County Tyrone

Good morning, I am having a big issue with my Insignia at the moment where I can be driving along a straight road and when I approach an incline my car loses power and will only do about 15mph. This is happening on straight roads as well. I dare not go on A roads or motorways for fear of losing power. Please help me as I am very concerned, do you think it could be the battery or is it more serious. When this happens I get either the engine management light or the light that looks like a car with a spanner shape on it light up. Many Thanks Steve

Car 14 mth old ('64 plate) but recently started with the following issues; Bluetooth: Volume jumps about with mp3 playback Phone volume will no longer work at all (doesn't even mute radio on incoming call) Dashboard Warnings: Service - Came on for about 2 days then went away (was serviced 5mths/8k miles ago so not due) TPMS - Flashes on and off though pressures checked and fine Alarm: Started sounding/flashing randomly about a week ago Anyone else have this variety of issues?

Answers

We have a '15 plate and have had a few issues. Infotainment system has crashed a number of times, leaving us without music, phone and parking sensors. We have also had the tyre pressure sensors flashing up when on long journeys - we've been told it's to do with the sensitivity of the system and the expansion/contraction of air in the tyres. We keep losing the ability to lock/unlock the car using the remote central locking. Whenever I use the phone, 9 times out of 10 it doesn't go back to the radio but to Bluetooth for my phone. At times we can't hear people when we ring them or they ring us - we have to end call and call back. There seems to be no way to regulate the call volume - it just goes loud so you nearly jump out of your skin when someone rings. We've just had to have a glow plug replaced as car shuddered when accelerating at higher speeds (as if you're in too high a gear for the speed when the gear is actually appropriate for the speed and acceleration. Also have a noise on the steering. Never had problems like this with our '62 plate. Julie from Northumberland

I am driving along then the yellow submarine comes on and I lose power almost immediately + loud lumpy sounds from the engine & a horrible loud rasping/ grating type noise. I limp to the side of the road & wait for recovery. This has happened 3 times - garages can find no fault & after reving engine it apparently clears. Garage wondered if there was a software update for this? Oil leaking from the power steering rack. Are these common faults.

Our Infotainment system kept crashing (seems to have been OK for the last month). Think there are some big software issues with these cars. I would go to a Vauxhall dealer - ours says there's no major issues known on their UK wide system - think we all need to report these issues to make them aware and force them to sort a software update.
