Malcolm, Surrey

Vauxhall Insignia

The factory fitted sat nav has stopped working - well sort of. Although it shows a map - when programmed it request 'drive to a digitised road' even though the vehicles on a main road although I live in surrey it's telling me I'm 'Off Road' miles from my location. Additionally the little box with GPS (top right of screen)has a broad red line through it. When travelling the curser moves with the vehicle but it looks to be travelling overland rather than on roads and highlights 'Off Road'. I originally had the vehicle back with the dealer when under warranty but although their test driver said there was something wrong with the sat nav the Service Manager (bless him) would not do anything (warranty wise) as he had no evidence there was a fault with the system and would not pursue as a warranty issue. Alright you've twisted my arm it was 'Now' of Kingston. 'Shark Fin' on roof is OK and not damaged. Got a hand held cheap sat nav which is far better and have this stuck on the Vauxhall screen even warns me of the hidden speed cameras. Anyway any help to rectify the sat nav would be appreciated. Thanks

My Insignia has just had the spanner light for a service flash and has gone into limp mode not getting above 2500 revs. Any ideas of the problem and what will be the financial hit? I tried to blast it on a fast road in low gear to see if it was a DPF problem but this has not worked.....

Answer this question

Attiqa, Leicestershire

Vauxhall Insignia

Bought this car 2 months ago. It was showing 109,000 miles on the dash screen and now for some reason it is showing instantaneous fuel consumption 0.9 L/h 183378. Please could tell me if this is the actual mileage or is this something else? Have i changed the settings by mistake or has the car been clocked back. Please help really important. And how do i get it checked to see if it has been clocked back? Thank you.

Answers

HI Attiqa, I think you are talking about the onboard computer that shows the level of fuel consumption caused by having air conditioning or fans/heaters/wipers etc. It should disappear if you don't have any wipers, fans etc on. As for the mileage, it may the one that shows up Trip 1 or Trip 2 rather than the whole mileage which is in grey on the clocks. Robert Cornick from Greater Manchester

Had my Insignia for 18 months, very happy with it. Unfortunately, all of a sudden the gears have become quite stiff. Has anyone experienced this and possible have a diagnosis???

Answers

Hi, are they stiff or just difficult to select. Mine has done 75000 and this happened. Local garage (not Vauxhall) found that selector mechanism was out of alignment. They rectified the problem and now it's ok. Peter from Leicestershire

Hello Peter from Leicestershire. Thank you for your advice, fortunately, my husband appears to have sorted it. He's lubricated the cables and every around the clutch/gearbox area. The gear selection is as good as ever. Thank you again for getting back to me. Joyce from Derbyshire

hi, got the service due soon light on and the car won't rev over2500 revs is the light the problem?

Answers

Hi Lin The service Vehicle soon message is a bit misleading, it doesn't mean the car is due for a service, it actually means there is a fault of some kind. The reason the car won't rev above 2500 rpm is that the engine management system has gone into what is commonly called "limp mode", just enough power to get you home or to a garage but not enough to cause any damage to the engine Neil from Cambridgeshire

Hi, the usual cause of limp mode is that the engine management thinks that the particulate filter is blocking up. The car needs to run above 3000 rpm for at least 15 minutes to clear the fault. You can usually achieve this in a low gear on a decent stretch of road. It just annoys other drivers. Best thing to do is run the car in low gear and high revs for the required time every couple of months, then you don't get the problem. Peter from Leicestershire

Answer this question

Martin, Flintshire

Vauxhall Insignia

When hot the engine sounds like a bag of spanners. It is more pronounced at low revs. Above 2k revs the sound disappears. Vauxhall garage replaced the camshaft belt and pulleys and the noise went away only to reappear a few months later. Under warranty they replaced the whole lot again only for it to happen a few weeks later. Either the parts were faulty or they haven't found out the cause. They had assumed the the costliest pulley breaks up inside and under higher revs the parts are centrifugally forced to the outside thus silencing them. On lower revs the broken bits rattle around. I've heard of oil draining from the cam followers. Could this be the problem instead?

The day I picked it up the service vehicle soon light was on the info panel I asked about this and they said they didn't service the vehicles just sold them on . Fair enough cause I wanted a Vauxhall service anyway . I took it to vauxhall and it's due to be diagnosed on Monday morning . My question is what sort of problems could I expect after diagnosis ? Vauxhall Insignia

Hi , I have a 2010 insignia vxr . When I get in the car and start the engine from cold the oil temp immediately shows 100 deg C and water temp is at zero , it's says that I can out use the air con as the engine is too hot and the fan keeps running , which is impossible as the car has just been started ! After driving round for half and hour all of a sudden the water temp shoots up and the oil temp drops ! The air con works and all is fine :-) but this is not always the case and the problem is intermittent . The car has been back to Vauxhall in Hartlepool around 5 times whilst they have tried to fix the problem but as of yet they have not managed to . They have changed temp sensors and inspected the wiring loom and cleaned all electrical connections , it's due to go back in the garage next week ... Any ideas what might be causing this ? The car runs fine ... It's just annoying as hell !! Many thanks , Dave.

Had a problem with the EGR valve so replaced it. No I have the Low oil pressure switch off engine light come on. It only comes on once the engine reaches temperature and only on tick over. If I Rev the engine it clears. I have done an oil and filter change and there's no leaks. The oil life is reset back to 100%. There's no loss of power or anything can it be the software.

Peter Crispin, Yorkshire

Vauxhall Insignia

Hi All, I have an issue with my Vauxhall Insignia 2.0 CDTi ECO flex , I purchased it brand new zero mileage in Dec 2013. The issue's started in August 2014 , engine overheated , ran erratic cuts out error P2428.Breakdown called out reset engine management ran fine , so took into dealership for check all was well until Nov 2013 again same scenario same error message again dealership informed after breakdown reset engine management, again tested on diagnostic machine again released to me telling me issue resolved. Yes it was until January -February , on M62 fast lane peak time traffic , motorway police had to drag car to safe place as management locked the brakes , again same error same response from dealership only this time they told me they had replaced the exhaust sensor and two tyres as dragging had ruined them , so it most definitely should now be ok . Yesterday it happened again, same issue same error , got car booked in for yet another check. Now so far been lucky as my wife not driving , nor have I been towing caravan, I am tempted to change , to try , push Evans Halshaw to limit for very best part exchange like for like to resolve . Questions 1) Do I go ahead , 2) As my rights (over 6 months old ) have diminished can I demand new car like for like 3) Or do I cut my losses Would like advise please

Answers

I would suggest that you push them as this has been an on-going issue from the first year of purchase if no recourse I would recommend going to the trading standards as I would consider a car not working correctly from new to be not fit for purpose. RON from Dorset

Sean, North Yorkshire

Vauxhall Insignia

My 2L Sat Nav CDTI Eco flex Insignia with 75000 on the clock has recently developed an intermittent problem. I can be driving at a round 70 mph and the engine cuts out with a message on the dash board saying service soon. I pull the car over to the hard shoulder turn the ignition key off and then on and the car starts without any problem, the car will then drive perfectly OK for an undetermined number of miles (could be 10 miles could be 200 miles) before it cuts out again. Had car looked at by local garage and they found the following when they put it onto their diagnostic machine: Injector high control circuit group 2 and Cylinder 4 pressure variation to high They recommended taking it to a Vauxhall dealer to have a software upgrade done to the ECM as part of a recall 13-R-025. The recall update has been completed by Vauxhall and the car was fine for about 150 miles and yes the engine has cut out again. Has anyone experienced the about problem and if so did you manage to get it fixed?
