Hi, so I don't know about cars so ignore any ignorance terms.. While driving I started to hear a grinding noise, and getting a strong smell of burning rubber.. Looking in my engine bay I discovered the bottom cog/wheel was grinding on something and causing sparks, as I accelerate you can hear the cog grinding... the cog itself is out of shape now and badly damaged, will be going the garage first thing in the morning, but is replacing any of those cogs/belts an expensive job? Thanks

I haven't used my 2010 1.6 Insignia SE, (Petrol,) for a couple of weeks & left it with the "dead lock" activated. On returning to it I found the battery was completely flat & the central locking fob will not operate the locks. I've tried the key in the drivers lock but that wont work either, also changed the battery on the fob just in case. I need access to the engine compartment to get power to the battery. Can I lift the bonnet in some way from the outside or get power to the battery some other way?

Vauxhall Insignia

Hi, My insignia keeps losing power when I accelerate hard, it seems to go into limp mode, nothing shows on the dash as an error but I am defo in limp mode, I turn my ignition off then back on and it clears until I accelerate hard again. It went into an auto electrician and he said it was over boosting but didn't seem to sort it? I need my clutch doing soon but I'm sure this has nothing to do with it.

Answers

Could be your turbo boost control sensor but would normally generate a fault code like P0325 or similar. Have you had the vehicle scanned for fault codes? Hugh from City of Glasgow

Hi yes he put it on the laptop and he said it was over boosting. Wayne Walker from Yorkshire

Good evening I have a 2010 Insignia Exclusiv 2.0 CDTI... i bought it in March this year, had it into 2 different garages to look at Diagnostics for the car symbol with the horizontal spanner on the dash. They both have read 0 codes on it and deleted it, yet it keeps coming back...i have bought my own and it also reads 0 codes and shows up again once deleted. Can anyone shed any light, when i start the car it bleeps 4 times and then thats it. i also get a slight loss in power every now and again, wether that could be involved in my problem or not i dont know. kind regards

We have a Vauxhall Insignia ecoflex. The car is a 63 plate and has over 100,00 miles. We have been having some issues where the car has been going into limp mode. This has happened 4 times and each time the diagnostic machine suggested that the issue was with the fuel sensor. The mechanic has cleaned the fuel sensor and then the car has been operational again. It seems to run ok for a few weeks then happens again. The last time it happened the fuel sensor didn't have any dirt on it at all. but going through the process of cleaning it seemed to resolve it. Any way fast forward to 2 weeks late when it happened again we decided to replace the fuel sensor, (over £200.00) thinking that there was a fault with it and that that should resolve the issue once and for all. But alas, this morning back into limp mode. Going to ask the mechanic to put it back on the diagnostic machine to see if its the same code. But don't really know what to do next. We through that maybe these was a problem with the wiring lume, but he says he has checked that. The car gets serviced regularly.. Can anyone suggest anything....all help appreciated... Thanks

My 2010 Vauxhall insignia nav cdti has a fan problem the display keeps going off but the fan keeps on I don't know what setting is on as the controll buttons stop working any idea what this might be its driving me crazy as it randomly comes back on

Answers

I had a similar problem on my 2010 insignia SE, then the "service warning" came on. I found out that it was the thermostat that had seized/jammed or the sender was faulty & therefore the fan was being told to cool the engine down even just after stating up. I had to replace the whole thermostat housing as they wouldn't sell me just the thermostat/sender . It cured the problem though, hasn't happened since. Paul Atkin from East Riding of Yorkshire

I realized there's water in driver front and rear doors. How to drain water out as it makes annoying sound while vehicle is moving

Answers

In the doors at the bottom there are rubber vents to allow water to drain out. You can remove these rubbers and wiggle about as sometime debris blocks the drain hole and the water should run out. Remember to put the rubbers back when done. OvertBigRobD from Gloucestershire

HI. Any advice would be appreciated. My insignia went into limp mode when driving up a hill and the service light came on. Any idea what this means? Tks

Answers

Hello this is a easy repair, I know from experiance ££££££. Front of engine place your hand either engine dead or live running along the large rubber pipe from the intercooler. to the engine intake. Feel for a split in the pipe 8/9 inches from the top location in your blind spot, move your hand all round the pipe with a bit of luck your fingers will feel a gap. over time the oily gases break down the rubber compounds. You can buy a brand new item from Vauxhall for about £120. All the best Chris Smith. chris smith from Derbyshire

Yep - had the same thing and I had to buy a Vauxhall replacement £120!! Fix was easy - just be sure to keep the old jubilee clips however as the new fittings are rubbish. I took the old clip of the bottom of my old pipe and swapped it on the new one as it's a much better and tighter fit. Just be sure that everything is on tight as this pipe is under real stress when in use and you dont want the pipe blowing off when driving. OvertBigRobD from Gloucestershire

Hi, Coolant is leaking from small pipe from under the oil cap. I have recently bought vauxhall insignia 2.0 cdti privately. There are two pipes going out from the coolant bottle . The first is going into radiator which has a big diameter whereas the second is going inside the engine below (the large plastic housing which has a place to put oil) the place where we top up engine oil. When the car gets heated (normally after if I keep car starts for around 5 minutes), its start leaking from this place. Could anyone help of what could it be and how much will it cost to fix the issue. Thanks in advance, Kanwar

Occassionaly in first gear when pulling off the car feels extremely sluggish and almost bogs down for a couple of seconds before driving off normally. This sometimes happens in higher gears too but only at low revs. Foot flat to the floor= nothing at all in some cases. Is this a characteristic of the car or could there be a problem?

Assuming ALL of your battery connections and earth cables are clean and sound connections then it's possible your starter ic starting to break up inside. Worn brushes, commutator segments and bushes in the end plates. You don't state year or mileage of your car but it's probably quite high. Hugh from City of Glasgow

Only have my car a month now and twice while driving it has lost power and the steering has got really heavy. Once when I was in 6th gear on the motorway and once pulling away from traffic i lights. A yellow car with a spanner comes up on the dash. Once i turned the car off and back on it went back to normal and no light on dash. Any ideas what's happening? ?

Answers

Year of car? Petrol or diesel? That warning light usually means the car needs serviced but is also used for faulty glow plugs. Steering going heavy may mean no power from alternator (electric power steering) but you may have other issues. Hugh from City of Glasgow
