Can I put a Diesel engine in my petrol car I need more power to pull a caravan ?

Answers

Yes, but don't. It`s more hassle than it`s worth. Not only do you have to consider engine and fuel, but there are brakes etc that will need to be checked are okay. You could spend as much on changing it than you would getting another car. Converting to LPG maybe a cheaper option, but I`m not sure if that will give you more power. You can also get your car`s ECU remapped. That may be more suitable and a lot less grief. Chris. from Cambridgeshire

My headlamp main beam stopped working so I purchased a new bulb but it still wouldn`t work. I took it to a Vauxhall garage, they did a test and the relay showed to be faulty - £240 but what can you do so I said go ahead. New relay switch was put in and no fault diagnosed but still it did not work so I was told it must be the headlamp £600. This I thought was a joke and said that I could not afford that and to put it all back the way it was. decided to look for part myself and then have it fitted. I found a part but when I picked up the car the Vauxhall garage said that they did not know if this was the problem and now I have to decide whether to go ahead and spend £300 and if it doesn`t work lose it, or go with the Vauxhall garage and risk having to pay £600 if this is it or more if it is something else. Also now the old relay switch is back it is showing no fault. Does some-one know what other fault could be causing this? All other lights on the headlight are working, only dipped beam is not.

My advice would be to go to an auto electrician who can do a full wire check on cables an light. Peter from Lancashire

i had a simular problem matey with my head lights staying on permantly . i eventually tracked the fault down to the main fuse box ,had to change the whole thing as everything is sealed on the boards .believe me this will be your problem .try and get one second hand as easy to fit yourself ......vauxhall charge a couple of hundred to fit .cannot remember now however if the part has to be reprogrammed to the car ...you will have to find this out before you buy sorry. h shaw from Germany

Hi i have a 3month old vauxhall insignia sri 2ltr diesel 163psi 2014 vx line model and i'm having trouble with it as it keeps cutting out at junctions changing down from second to first it also has start stop eco function its like thats cutting in but its not cause i still have my clutch in anyone else had a problem pls has ive almost been killed today it cut out across a very busy junction its happend 3or four times now its booked to go into the vxh garage but just asking for any advise

Answers

If its only 4 months old (now) I would be taking it back. (even if second hand) you are protected by the sales of goods act 1979, (section 14) unfit for purpose and not of satisfactory condition. For brand new, take it back. You may have to be prepared to leave it there, with keys and reject the vehicle. (you can get a standard rejection letter from the web, just google it, change the details etc. ) Chris. from Cambridgeshire

Just to let you know the intercooler pipe takes about 15 minutes to fit with unclipping the ring at the top with a screw driver and removing the n/s bumer light or small grill at the front which clips out .Then its a 8mm socket for the jubilee clip. You can feed it back through the front. Tony from Nottinghamshire

I have a 2.0 Diesel Bi Turbo SRI Sports tourer 2013 with 14k on the clock. I have noticed after driving the vehicle under load, e.g. up a long hill, followed by a long downhill section when the car comes to rest on idle there is white smoke coming from the engine bay, this does not smell like burning diesel but a burning rubber / oil. On the vehicles 12 months 1st service I reported the issue and the Vauxhall garage could find no problem. I live in the Pennines and as such this scenario happens fairly frequently. Does anybody have any suggestions or possible root cause. I have now taken a video to demonstrate when I go back to the garage that I'm not just making this up. Any suggestions?

I have no fog lights on this vehicle. I understand to add these the controlling module or modules will have to be reprogrammed. I couldn't see any wiring under the bumper so assume there isn't any. The manual states a particular fuse and relay for the front fogs in the engine compartment fuse bow which are present. How can I get the control module reprogrammed. Vauxhall customer care don't know and can't offer any help. My local garage or at least three I've been too also don't know. Can anyone help?

I am also experiencing a very similar problem, I had a battery that was reported to have dead cells and not holding charge I called for recovery and they gave me a jump start but on doing so the radio info display unit started to scroll with several lines like a broken computer, it no longer plays music and is frozen on the date screen. I had a dealer look into this and they stated it was a power surge caused from the jump start that has blown the info display unit. They ordered this part and fitted it but it still has not solved the problem........ They are due to take back my car next week to re-investigate what they actual problem is but are completely confused any tips or ideas would be great help Amy from Greater London

We brought a Insignia in Jan 2013 it had 24k on the clock we have done 10,000 miles in the last 15 months, yesterday we took back to our brokers Eastbourne motors and they informed us it needs a new gear box, does anyone know where we stand legally as i dont think 34,000 miles is alot on a vehicle to have its gearbox replaced at a cost of £3000!!!! Any advice would be much appreciated as we dont have £3000. With regards, Matt

As donatas suggested it should still be under warranty if it was passed over to you. I believe you have to get it done rather than it just happen when you buy the car. If not; legally there is little you can do. If purchased under 6 months ago and a reasonable mileage (about 3K, but I did succeed in court at 5K as it was reported sooner) You should be able to argue that 34K is no distance for a gearbox, and therefore would be a manufacturing issue. . They will of course blame the way you drive. You could try contacting Vauxhall UK. They are not as bad as the dealerships. Ask the question how long they should last, and go from there. But its more a hit and hope than any sure answer. Chris. from Cambridgeshire
