Hi, I have a 2003 Vauxhall corsa 1.2. Sometimes when you turn on the ignition only two warning lights come up and no gauges. The car will start but cuts out immediately. Most of the time the car starts and all of the gauges are working and runs perfectly. Nothing comes up on the diagnostics test. What is the fault?

Answers

One of the biggest problem with intermittent electrical faults is diagnosing them... they can only be diagnosed when the fault happens.. and you can't always make it happen.. In the interim I'd be looking for loose wires or connections and corroded or dirty connections and loose plugs. Rule out what you can, It may come down to faulty ECU or console. Bought car with spanner light on, was advised that diagnostics had showed up nothing. I had it a day and found out that sometimes on start up there was nothing at all, no attempt tp turn over. When it did start it started dropping revs before coming to a halt on a hill on motorway, several attempts got it moving again but when home, found it would not restart at all. Whilst trying to start I noticed that as well as the spanner tool light, that a symbol F appeared also. Tried to do the "pedal test" but this did not work. Help!!!!

Two weeks ago stop out side doc'sto wait for someone hado radio on for about 20 minute went to start the car and it would not start there was a ticking sounds coming from bonnte a friend came and jump started fine and has been running fine until today ,I had been out in car all day stopping and starting the car then tonight I had gone to a friends house when I left I needed to make a phone call son I put my phone on chager in the car but with out fully starting the car I then changed one of my head lights then when I tryed to start the car it would not start and there is a ticking sounds again ,got someone to try and jump start men but it did not work this time , HELP ME CAN NOT LIVE WITH OUT MY CAR ????????? Many thanks

Answers

Charlotte, sounds like your battery needs changing.. leaving the radio on for 20 mins in normal circs should't kill a battery, but yours did... suggests it is not holding charge. 3-5 yrs some say is the average life of a battery.. it means some get less than three years while others get more than five years from one.. your symptoms first suggest faulty battery. if that doesn't work, there may be a fault with charging.. dirty, loose or damaged contacts to alternator.. or your alternator may be failing... but change the battery first and see. Just wondering what the total mileage the Corsa 1.2 does with a full tank of petrol. Asking as I filled up with a full tank last Wednesday morning, and after my journey home tonight (Monday, i.e. 4 days driving) and total mileage of around 108 in that time, I have less than half a tank full left of petrol. So going on this, 216 miles to a full tank? This can't be right.

Answers

I have had a 1.2 for 12 yrs. Normaly a full tank of petrol will give me about 400miles. so about 100 miles per quarter tank roughly. BUT this does change however, when either full laden in the boot, or have lots of passengers I have found its also not a lover of prolong journeys of speed at 70mph. its much more at home near 60 at about 300 revs. saying that my car is the older eco flex 04 plate. have you checked your tyre pressures recently on the front set. Front wheel drive drags and loses fuel desperately if the tryes aren't up near 34-36psi depending on model Kieran from Yorkshire

what are the correct tyre pressures for this model Thanks

Answers

Helen, the tyre pressures for your vehicle should be on a small stick-on panel that is visible when you open a front door.. it may be on the driver side or the passenger side and it may be on the door or the pillar... but it will tell you front and rear pressures and might give you different pressures according to load.. i.e. 2 passengers or four... they'll be about 36psi R Evans from Caerphilly

Vauxhall Corsa

Hi everyone. I have an Opel Corsa 1.6T OPC. The vehicle doesn't start intermittently. When this happens an "F" is displayed on the information centre on the cluster. The vehicle is at a dealership, where they have found that there are communication DTC's between the BCM(Body Control Module), ECM(Engine Control Module) and the EBCM(Electronic Brake Control Module). They have tested all the wiring, there are no open circuits, short to voltages, short to ground or open\high resistances. ie: all wiring is okay. They have however spoken to the factory and they say that the BCM is faulty. Has anyone had this problem before and what was done to repair the vehicle? Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thank You.

Problem is filling it up with diesel. Pumps keep cutting out whatever angle I hold them at after only getting about £1-2 worth in it this has become a constant problem now.

"Don't put the nozzle in all the way and don't pull the trigger to the max" This makes no difference and is not a fix. Thanks for trying Jim Jim Thompson from City of Glasgow

Jim, I can't see how it could be an issue with the car tho.. I use Corsas galore in work and fill them often, but don't have this issue that you experience.. ok.. the pumps do occasionally cut out, but doing as I suggested does the job... unless your vent pipe is blocked and the air pressure as you fill the tank cannot escape.. i.e. the nozzle detects a full tank because of the pressure... but I can't explain why the vent would be blocked, unless it's kinked R Evans from Caerphilly

how do you remove a battery from vauxhall corsa active 1.0L ?? Thank You.

Answers

Lift the bonnet.. the battery will be on the right.. use a 10mm spanner to remove the negative terminal and move it out the way, then remove the pos and move it out the way.. to the left of the battery there's a clamp at the base of the battery held in by 13mm bolt.. use a ratchet with extension to undo and move the clamp out the way.. remove battery. Answers

Flat battery mark from Worcestershire

A car standing for two days, even in cold, should start.. but the chicken noise.. I think predictive text has cut in and should be ticking... well that can be the noise of starter that has insufficient power from the battery to kick the starter motor properly.. Mark is probs right.. flat battery but it shouldn't go flat in 2 days.. may be a dead battery and a call for a new one.... it's not retaining charge! R Evans from Caerphilly
