Answer this question

Dom, Surrey

Vauxhall Corsa

It's MOT time and I checked the lights but the driver's side headlamp, full and dipped, is dim. I changed the bulb a few months ago but didn't notice a problem then. I've read that this is likely to be an earthing problem and to follow the wires back to the earthing point. Well they go into the plastic tube/conduit with a lot of other wires which I followed as best I could, across the front of the car behind the bumper, picking up other wires on the way including the headlamp on the near side, but I can't find where the earthing point on the body of the car is. Any help much appreciated. Dom.

Rhian, Gwent

Vauxhall Corsa

Hello, Recently I have noticed that my main lights have stopped working atthe front of my car. The Rear lights, brake lights, and front uppers lights all work when the car is on and in Automatic mode. However, the main (larger) front lights do not work on both sides. The full beam also does not work when placed into the automatic position (i.e. when positioning the indicator into the position where the full beam should constantly be on). However if I pull the indicator towards me and hold into position (i.e. in a manor where this would normally be used say to flash someone) they will work, so it suggests that the bulbs havent gone if they work in this position even if in a manual way. What would you be able to suggest the problem might possibly be? Thank you in advance for any advice you might be able to shed on this?

THE YELLOW MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LIGHT CAME ON AND I IMMEDIATELY TOOK IT TO MY LOCAL VAUXHALL DEALER. THEY CARRIED OUT TECH 2 TEST,CODE IN SYSTEM P0054, FOUND FAULT WITH O2 SENSOR. THEY FITTED A NEW SENSOR, THE LIGHT WAS OUT WHEN I COLLECTED THE VEHICLE BUT THE NEXT MORNING THE LIGHT WAS BACK ON. THE SENSOR WAS EXPENSIVE AND HAVING IT FITTED HAS NOT RESOLVED THE PROBLEM. I AM NOW OUT OF POCKET AS WELL AS STILL HAVING THE ORIGINAL PROBLEM. ANY ADVICE AS TO WHAT I SHOULD DO NEXT ?

Answers

I chased this same problem all round the car... sensors, coil pack and other stuff. Just check the spark plugs. The sensors you replaced were clean and new, the car mis-firing will burn oil and then cover the sensors again and the light comes back on! It cost me around four hundred to change a spark plug so to speak. Tom from Yorkshire

Hello, I bought my first car early this month and it has 80 miles on the clock. I know that, before I bought it, it had only done around 100 miles in the year. It smells musty and there are signs of damp, however I'm not sure whether that has any link to my problem. So I went out for a smoke today and tried unlocking the car with the key, it took me a few goes but the key is worn so I didn't think anything of it. When I approached the car it sounded as though it was locking and unlocking again. I ducked next to the passenger wheel arch to have a listen and it sounded as though the engine was ticking. Suddenly the lock locked again. I'm not sure if it is a safety feature. So I got in the car and tried to turn the engine on to use the in-car lighter. I tried three times but the engine wouldn't turn over and the car with a spanner logo showed up. Since the beginning of the month it has never had a problem starting. Once the engine started it was fine and the locks were fine as well. Any suggestions?

My speedometer is erratic. It randomly says I'm doing 60mph when I am stationary and 80mph when I'm Doing 20mph. It happens randomly and for a few days then goes back to normal

Answers

I had the same problem which started about 2 weeks ago. My 2007 Corsa 1.2 started showing 70 mph when doing 30 mph and sticking at 20 mph when the car was parked. I took it to a local Vauxhall dealer, expecting them to identify the problem, instead they ran a diagnostic test (£79) and told me that there was nothing wrong. They didn't seem to try and solve the problem, all they could suggest was replacing the instrument panel at ~£394. At this point I wasn't impressed by the lack of knowledge of the Vauxhall dealership staff (two Vauxhall dealerships in Cheshire suggested the same expensive fix). Instead I checked the web again for any similar problems. I came across a posting which suggested checking the battery. I took my car to my local Halfords, as this was the only garage open in the evening. They checked the status of the battery, which seemed on its way out (original battery, ~7 years old) and I had it replaced. I guessed that it was either spend ~£55 or throw nearly £400 on a new instrument panel with the dealership. Anyway, so far the problem seems to have been fixed. I've been really impressed by the staff at Halfords (Congleton), and annoyed by the Vauxhall staff, who seemed to have missed a simple fix. Next time Vauxhall - spend a little more time checking the obvious things instead of being quick to take a total of nearly £480 from a customer. What annoys me even more is that if it was the battery then replacing the instrument panel would not have fixed the problem. Hope this helps you. S Bush from Cheshire

I need to install a telematics device for my insurance. This is just a plug in diagnostic box but I cannot locate where it should go. My make and model does not seem to appear on the help websites. It is a Vauxhall Corsa SE 1.4 5dr reg 2013. Where should this plug in go? Some sites say under the steering wheel others say under the heating controls but it doesn't seem to be either as the postures these sites provide do not match the interior of my vehicle

Hi ive had my 51 plate corsa for a year and a half and has been running fine its had the timing chain and new fan belt fitted january this year at 81000 miles its at 86000 now and was running fine up until a couple of days ago just after the oil temp switch getting replaced because it was leaking (been changed 3 times now tho dont think this is the cause of the problem) i went to drive it and seemed normal until the engine het up just b4 80 on th temp gauge then the car started to shudder and reving itself and i had to nurse it home stayin at 15 mph and in second gear i managed to get it to the garage in the morning when the engine was still cold bt once it het up and started doing it again. The mechanic put his machine on it and it said there was a fault with the egr valve and the air flow meter both have been replaced now with new 1s along with a new coil pack, spark plugs and fuel filter as well as the throttle body been removed and cleaned seems to be running aliitle bit better bt still hunting in first and second gear but its allowing u to drive through it till 3rd and 4th gear the mechanics are baffled by it as its still coming up on th fault reader as the egr valve and air flow meter but both have been replaced with the same kind so dont have a clue wot else to get checked would be greatfull for any ideas thanks in advance

Try a crankshaft sensor. I fixed a corsa combo van and Astra were the sensor was being affected by temperature. The combo didn't even have any fault codes displayed! The Astra did and was cutting out when hot,the combo wouldn't start when warm about 55degreesC,but would start hot@90degC or cold. Yours may be breaking down+cheap to replace. That's assuming the parts you have had replaced have been replaced ,if so its not impossible for them to be faulty but very unlikely+very bad luck. A faulty Egr will impact the MAF sensor performance/parameters as well. Sounds like you need a more experienced diagnosis man+not a fit new parts cos that's what the codes say type dude. gary from Merseyside

I am having a hard time determining my engine size. I don't have the engine code and it doesn't seem to be on the engine, also no manual or anything else. I have numbers on plates attached to the car and can see some of the part numbers, but nothing yet that helps me figure it out. It's a 1997 Opel Corsa B (Vita) hatchback automatic petrol with air conditioning. I need a new radiator and found this one: Nissens 63284 Radiator that at least looks like the right one. It fits all but these: 1.0 i 12V (40 kW) NO1.2 i 16V (48 kW) NO 1.6 GSI 16V (80 kW) NO.So even if all I can do is eliminate these, I would be able to get the part and know it fits. Can anyone help me?

Susan Price, Gloucestershire

Vauxhall Corsa

My Corsa has just gone for spares and repairs, thought problem was tappets or timing chain but engine kaput. Fine when I bought it 5years ago but after a month the oil light started to stay on and flicker after a certain mileage. I regularly checked the oil. Unfortunately when I took it to be serviced I was told that by the state of the filter it had never been serviced despite the service book being stamped each year. However, it has taken me all over the place and done many miles and never failed to start. Would like to buy another Corsa but are noisy tappets and engine a common thing with this year make of car(2002) sounded like a diesel engine. Too be honest I hadn't heard another one like it. Who do you trust when buying a second hand car, private seller or dealer.
