I have recently bought a Vauxhall Astravan Aportive on an 11 plate. It has the original factory installed cd/radio. The radio and cd work but the dash board display says display safe, which means I can’t tune in any radio stations, change the base etc or see what cd tracks are playing. The time comes up and the temperature comes up on the same dash display, everything but the radio. I have the code for it but I can’t even put that in. I phoned two main dealers but they were no help whatsoever. Does anyone have any ideas how I can sort this, any suggestions greatly received.

Answers

Hi if you look in the handbook, it will tell you how to put the code in but off the top of my head you need to turn key on but don’t start it. Press and hold a botton (which one?) then put the code in - Thomas Martin from Blaenau Gwent

3 weeks ago I purchased a 57 plate 1.7cdti Astravan. Then yesterday I noticed that when my clutch is almost up a kind of clipping/slapping/knocking sound has started coming from the engine. The clutch seems fine as it bites a lot further down and changes gears OK... Any ideas or help much appreciated guys.

Hi, I have an Astra van 1700 diesel, Isuzu engine. It has a water leak, this has happened since I put antifreeze in it. The leak seems to be coming from the front of the engine, from what I can see there are two small pipes: one is L shaped, the other pipe is about 8 inches long and this is where the water / antifreeze is dripping from. Is this the water pump? I have to lie under the van to see these pipes...

Whilst I was driving my Vauxhall Astravan I lost all power - lights dash and headlights then power steering went. Took to local garage and they said it was the alternator so had that replaced. Went to take it home and noticed the van drove differently so I turned it around and took it back and they said the turbo isn’t working?.... I later found out that the mechanic had bypassed something on it for it to drive. This is costing me a fortune, my van now won’t work, can you help me please!

My 05 plate Astravan is now on 345,000 miles and has run like a treat in all that miles... Twice now over 2 weeks the turbo has cut out for around 3-4 minutes not long after setting off for my day. It then comes back in and no problem whatsoever. The engine management light came on so what I’m asking is - is the turbo going out? Or is turbo getting a little too much air then cuts out then once it’s all settled comes back on? If it’s the latter then would it just be a gasket leaking? Any advice welcome, cheers Simon.

I have changed the battery in my Vauxhall Astravan remote but the remote will still not open or central lock - can anyone help or advise?

Answers

It is most likely that you have to put the key in the ignition turn on, do not start the engine, then push the lock button on the key. This should activate the system and match the two together now that you have replaced the fob battery - Jim Watson from Kent

Get in the van, close the doors, insert key in ignition, turn on but do not start, press either button on key and it should reset. You have 30 seconds to do this after turning on ignition - Nick Harrison from Worcestershire

Hi, please can someone help me? I have an Astra van mk4 cdti with a 1.7 engine, only 75k on clock. I have too much pressure in my header tank and the pipes are very hard. Someone has said it was the injector sleeves so I got new ones fitted but things are still the same. Then I got my head skimmed and the pressure tested but still the same.... I use about a half pint of water a day and it does not over-heat when I start it up and it get up to temp. The water in the tank goes and when I stop it water comes back in to tank. Why? I have just been out to it, the heater was hot and it just went cold, went down my street and it got hot within 1 minute. I have just spent over £800 and don’t know wot to do next. This was my dad’s van and he has just passed away so this is my pride and joy. Please, please some one help. Cheers.
