Vauxhall Astra TwinTop 2007

Hi, wondering if anyone can help ... I’ve had my Twin Top for 2 years. Last summer (usually on days where the car had been parked in the sun for hours) I would go to put my roof down and it was sticking at the point just before it goes into the boot, the two wing motors would just keep going in and out if I tried to put it back up or down. I would wait a few minutes and try again and it would usually work, however last week it done it and wouldn’t go up or down for an hour! After the roof hassle, Scotland got some sun last week and I went to get out my driver’s door and it wouldn’t open from the inside? Car has extended warranty which I believe covers virtually nothing :( ... Arnold Clark aren’t being very helpful ... Any ideas what could be causing this or anyone with similar problems? Thanks, Simone. (1.6)

Hi. We had a blow out on the motorway. We tried to use the repair tyre machine and it flattened battery. Once battery was charged the boot wouldn’t work. Took it to Vauxhall main dealer who put it on there tech machine and they have said the motors on the twin top need replacing. We had one replaced last year, but the dealers reckon the whole lot should be changed as the motor that wasn’t replaced has been overworked. We have hardly had the roof up so don’t know how this happened. Anyway they have reset the memory for now as they was over £1300 pound to put this right. Problem now is the car alarm and immobiliser have come into effect and we have had to disconnect the battery to shut it up and we now cant use our car. HELP PLEASE!

Hi. My 2008 Sport TwinTop roof gets stuck and just one side wing keeps moving in and out and others remain stationary. The roof neither goes down nor comes back. After keeping trying with button it becomes fine but again same thing happens after 1 or 2 days. Also the patrol tank door doesn’t open at all. My petrol is almost finished in the tank but there is no way the door would open. Please help. Many thanks. (1.6 Sport).

Answers

You got to change the motor of the wing.... pretty expensive. The dealership was asking 700euros for mine... then a local mechanic was able to replace a part in the motor for less than 200euros. There is a small plastic rotor in the wing motor that gets stuck all the time... Anyway, if you have not fixed the problem yet let me know and I will email you the details - Christos from Greece

I am arranging to import my UK right hand drive Vauxhall Astra to Spain and need to have the headlights adjusted. Can the headlights just be adjusted on my model of car or do I need to purchase completely new headlights? (SPORT 1.8 PETROL RHD)

Answers

Hi, yes you have to purchase new headlights if you wanna change from right hand drive to left. The headlights are designed that way and can’t be adjusted. You can only adjust the lights up and down. If you’re just on vacation with your car, maybe just tape the upper part of either headlight - Sonny from Denmark

The coolant level indication on shows on the info panel of my Vauxhall Astra. I have checked the level and it’s fine, could it be the sensor?

Answers

Yes, it is the sensor we have had this problem a few times and had it replaced but it still happens only in the mornings when it’s cold. Our boot is not opening. Any ideas? Does anyone know whcih fuse it is? It isn’t in the manual - Charmaine Saunders from Buckinghamshire

Sorry, I don’t have an answer on your boot problem, but we have the same thing. I don’t think that it’s the fuse as such. Ours seems to be the boot switch actuator itself. Most of the time it does not open, but then in cold or frosty weather it gets wet (shorts out) it gets a mind of its own goes crazy and starts pinging like no tomorrow and pops open. I was lucky enough to spray some grease into it the last time that it popped but that was 3-4 weeks ago and no joy since. Vauxhall reckon that its a 1/2 day job as they have to take the back seats out to gain accsess to the boot and replace the switch. To be honest it a lovely looking motor, but badly designed as the back seats don’t fold down and there’s no key back up... All the best - Lee Morgan from Blaenau Gwent

I had the top down yesterday and when I tried to put it back up it stopped after only a slight movement. The boot lid won’t close properly nor will it move upwards should be some sort of manual back-up procedure. Any advice anyone? I would be most grateful. (2000 turbo)

Answers

You do not say whether you are opening and closing the roof with the engine running. Always keep the engine running and keep the revs at about 1500 rpm when drawing power for the roof electrics. Good luck with this - P2 astra twintop owners club from Sunny Cheshire

I have discovered a large puddle in the back passengers side footwell of my Vauxhall Astra TwinTop. Can anyone help or advise?

Answers

Hi, yes I have the same problem, water is getting in past the rubber roof seal around the top of the front door window where the roof joint is. Do you park your car on a slope by any chance? I believe the problem happens on mine when parked facing down hill on my driveway. Bad design I suspect as it shouldn’t happen at any time - Pete Evans from England

Mine started leaking while is relatively new and the dealer or GMSA didn’t help to sort it out, all they did all along was a trial and error and now the car is out of warranty and I am on my own. It’s a nice car to look and drive but comes rain, then a disaster - Maurice Mowasa from South Africa

Obviously this is a fault with twin tops, have experienced the same problem but on the driver’s side. Only when rain is particularly heavy. Seat belt gets soaked too and takes a couple of days to dry out - Minnie Peeve from England

I am having a problem with my Twintop. At around 22 miles per hour, it makes a terrible wearing type noise worse when the foot is off the accelerator up to about 30mph. It has been in for a check, its not the ball bearings or the breaks grinding, its done 36,000 miles. Has anyone else had the same problem?

Before you put the key in the ignition, hold down the odometer reset button, keep button pressed as you insert key and turn ignition lights on. Continue to hold for about 10 seconds. Job done! This works on my ’06 Astra so hope it’s the same on yours - Steve Astra from Surrey

I have a problem with my horn. I brought my car to the garage many times and finally they say the problem is the accessory part SIM in steering. What is this and where I can find it?

Answers

I have the same problem on my 2006 Astra with the horn. If you phone Vauxhall direct they will have you take the car to a dealer to be fixed free of charge, they accept that there is an issue with the horn wiring on this year astra and have recalled the cars to be fixed. Mine’s booked in for tomorrow should take 30-45 minute to fix. Hope this is of help :-) - Chris Williams from Berkshire

I hear that Vauxhall are recalling certain Twintops because there is a fault with the horn. Can anyone shed any light on this? My horn hasn’t worked properly since the day I bought my Twintop and it has been back to the garage twice and they say they can’t find anything wrong!!!!!

Answers

Yes, the rework is to renew the wiring harness behind the steering wheel airbag. The fault is horn works fine, but when you turn the lights on, then the horn stops working. The modified steering wheel harness will fix this - Chris from England

You need to tune your radio into a channel which broadcasts the time, most local ones do. If it doesn’t work put RDS on the radio on. I had this issue and this sorted it - Jonny B from England
