Hi, I bought a second hand Toyota Hiace from a friend and it was once involved in a minor accident but since then I took it in 3 times in 6 months for a crankshaft seal replacement. I would really like to know what causes the seal to leak oil in less than 2 months? Last time I made sure I bought an expensive seal but it as usual never lasted but began leaking. Please help meRegards Ed

My son has a 1986 Toyota Hiace campervan, 2.4 diesel automatic. The timing belt has gone on it and I need to know whether it will have completely wrecked the engine, as I know in some vehicles it does wreck the engine and some it doesn't. I would be most grateful for any helpful advice. Many thanks.

I have a Toyota Hiace 2003 d4d which is bomb proof. However if the revs drop to idle it puts the engine warning light on and stays on and the engine will not rev up until it is switched off and restarted, holding revs above idle the fault is a generic p1226? The van can be driven perfectly as long as the revs are not allowed to fall to idle. I would be eternally grateful if someone can tell me what's wrong or have experienced the same problem? Tel 07775514606 or email mwcsibsey@tiscali.co.uk many thanks

I have a Toyota Hiace super custom 1KZ engine. Of late it has been cutting off its engine after a few minutes of idling, the throttle makes a twitching sound to indicate its opening, the car starts and idles for a few minutes then cuts off. The check engine will flash just before it cuts. If I try to start it again the throttle will not make that twitching sound and the car will not start but just produces a white smoke. What could be the problem?

Hello. my toyota hiace van engine 5l just had a total engine overhaul now the engine is overheating and the oil lamp is blinking. what could be the problem please? thanks, lydia

Answers

You have not stated why the engine had to be overhauled in the first place and what was done to it exactly. Causes of overheating are several. They include improperly fitted head gasket, leaking water system, faulty water pump or even just a bad radiator cap. The first thing would be to ask (your mechanic) what they replaced and what they think the problem is coming from. The flickering oil switch could be due to a loose connection or an indication of a failing oil pump, assuming it was not changed during the overhaul. The pressure builds up in my radiator & goes into the over-flow tank, but does not return to the radiator - which needs to be re-filled every day. I have put on 3 new radiators caps, taken it to 4 mechanics, who could not identify the problem - hence, nor fix it!! They pressure tested it (it was OK), none could find any leaks, tested for oil (OK), checked oil (OK), heater & flushed it. It does not overheat. Still, it does not suck the water back into the radiator. Any ideas would be most appreciated. Thanks, Rob

What causes the igniter to burn out? Toyota Hiace 1994 gas. Van was running fine then just died at the stop sign. Mechanic replaced coil and igniter, engine ran for 15 seconds then igniter was burnt out. Replaced it again, engine ran 15 seconds and died. Have checked the computer, spark plugs, rotor, caps and all are good. I am in Mobay. I need help as soon as possible, please.

Answers

Hello Peter, I have experienced similar problems on different type of vehicle. Replace all the burnt out parts (of course). In addition, replace alternator (very very important!). If you cant afford to replace the alternator, replace the voltage regulator at least. john mtonga from Zambia

My Toyota Hiace is imported from Japan. The problem is if you press the brake pedal continuosly about 6x above is the handbrake indicator in the instrument panel lights up and turns off immediately. Is it normal?

Answers

This is probably because pressing the pedal temporarily uses some fluid from the reservoir and this is making the level sensor trigger the warning. Sometimes the warning will come on before the fluid get near the Minimum marker. It is the same lamp as the handbrake warning. Add a small amount of brake fluid to the reservoir. I have a Toyota Hiace campervan. During the recent cold spell I haven't been out in it and the battery went flat. I took it out of the van and got it recharged. When I put the now fully charged battery back in the van started first time but all the lights on the dashboard stayed on apart from the diesel one. What can it be? Laura

Answers

Hello Laura, That might mean that your charging system is not working and hence your battery is not charging. In other words, there is voltage coming from the alternator john mtonga from Zambia

I have a 3l Toyota Hiace diesel engine which is consuming a lot of oil but no leaks are seen. What could be the problem? I am topping the oil after two days.

Answers

Hello Wellington, There are two ways oil is lost One is through the combustion system. Oil might be finding its way into the cylinders and is burning off with the fuel. You can observe your exhaust gas from the tailpipe If it appears bluish, thats where the oil is going. Also, oil in exhaust gives a characteristic odor There other way is through any of the two oil seals on the engine. There is also seal on the camshaft at front of the cylinder head. john mtonga from Zambia

You may also want to double check the oil pipes connecting to the alternator john mtonga from Zambia

Hey guys, my Toyota Hiace 10 seater has a problem with the reverse switch. The reverse noise and reverse lights come on in all gear positions (p,r,n,d,2,l), noise stops when I turn the key off/on again in park, then gear change starts the noise again. I think the rear position sensor /multi switch was recently changed. Is there another relay for the reverse switch?

How do i lock myself IN to my toyota hi ace High Top campervan please. I know there is a red knob inside on the locking handle, but does this then also secure and lock the front cab two doors and also does it then lock the back door?? I am female and need to be secure in my campervan when overnight camping but don't seem to be able to work this out. Many thanks

Answers

Hi put your drivers window down (open) then get out of the van, reach through the window and lock the van with the red knob (as you would if you were inside). Now walk round the van and see whether all of the doors are locked. This should tell you what you need to know. Then reach through the window and flip the red knob to re-open the van. Hope this helps! SteveA from Surrey

My 2004 hiace van looks like it needs a new battery put it has 2 of them will I have to replace the 2 of them ?

Answers

The two batteries are connected in parallel and just behave like a bigger battery - still 12Volts - so you could try each one on its own. It has two because it is sold in some very cold countries. If they look as if they're the same type and age then most people change both as mixing old and new is a bad idea. I would be tempted to try just one new battery on its own. It might be fine if the weather doesn't get too cold. SteveA from Surrey
