Hiace Regius 3Lt 1997: What appears to be heat related knocking noise from front passenger side. I say heat related because it appears to be only on summer days. I get in the vehicle first thing in the morning and all is fine for my 15 mile journey until the last mile when i hear a feint knocking. Car stays parked up for 9 hrs while i am at work and when i start my journey home the knocking starts immediately getting louder as i travel the 15 miles back. It had its MOT the other days and the mechanics at Toyota tried to diagnos the problem nut failed to do so. In fact it passed the MOT with flying colours. During the winter i have no such problems but this is the second summer with the same issue. Any ideas as to the problem will be welcomed. Thanks guys

hello just had my Toyota hiace 5L engine overhauled 3 months ago and I top up at least 2 pints a day. This problem started after 2. months I run this car as a commuter bus operating an average of 270 kms a day. it has no leak and it does not overheat. Please help
I am not too clear when you say that you top up at least 2 pints a day, is it engine oil? Any sign of the vehicle smoking? ,when you overhauled did you change the valve seals guide. Theron Smith from Jamaica

Hi, I have a 1993 hiace supercustom auto diesel, which "shudders" when accelarating uphill, not all the time but it needs sorting. My mechanic has changed the transmission oil twice and it didnt change anything, still "shuddering", so he said I need a new transmission. Not an easy thing to find. Someone is selling a 1997 transmission but it's a granvia 2.8. Anyone got any ideas whether this will fit my vehicle? Thanks.
Ask your mechanic to take a picture of your transmission, or ask the person to send you a picture of the Granvia transmission and compare it with yours. Theron Smith from Jamaica

1997 toyota hiace regius intermittent wiper not working. When calling for wiper fluid the wipers dont operate although fluid is sprayed on the windshield. The wiper motor has been replaced in the past with a motor from another toyota and the wiring didnt match. the mechanics cut and spliced another conector so the wire colors dont match. An original replacement has been re-installed but as you can see its not fully functional. I am wondering if there is a control module for the wipers that may be bad and also looking for the wiring diagram for the wiper function. Can you help?

Hi, i have a toyata hiace 1999 model that had a problem of overheating when climbing hills. i bought a new engine and still has the same problem. what could be the problem?
make sure the cowling is put back infront of the engine fan, check if u a not losing water in the radiator, change the rad cap coz a slight drop in water levels can cause this when climbing hills.after replacing engine if problem is still there then it is not in the engine vusumuzi moyo from Zimbabwe
I am sorry you are so far from me (smile) i would buy the old engine from you. Just change the fan clutch, and you good to go again. Theron Smith from Jamaica

Why does my dashboard oil light (Yellow with Exclamation mark on top) come on. I just changed the oil and filter 3 days ago.
Just check the wiring on the unit to see if the contact is firm or you take too long to change your engine oil and oil in side unit be comes tarry so the internal contact stuck together. Theron Smith from Jamaica

My fan runs constantly, it does not cut off. as soon as I start it the fan comes on and continues to run non-stop. what could be the problem? I cleaned the Water Temp. Sensor, but no change.
I am not aware that Toyota Hiace use electric fan, this could be a conversion. There is a rad fan temperature switch some place, look carefully. Theron Smith from Jamaica

1993 hiace fuel pump relay location please my van runs for about 10 to 20 mins then it is switching the fuel pump
I am trying to understand your posting. The fuel pump has a fuel stop solenoid attach to the body of the fuel pump, when then ignition switch is turn to the off position, this solenoid stop all fuel entering the inlet port of the fuel pump. This solenoid could be intermittently breaking down, try to substitute it to see if it is your problem, best wishes . Theron Smith from Jamaica

Hi, what seems to be the problem with the automatic transmission when it does not shift properly or not shift at all whenever the engine temperature gets hot? I've checked the ATF level and it is good. checked the cable too, by changing the shifter to different positions. i think it is working properly. i haven't changed to fluid yet. Thanks.
Change the transmission fluid and filter , or vacuum the transmission is even better. Theron Smith from Jamaica

Hello, I purchased a 2003 Toyota Hiace Commuter some 8 months ago and I notice a lot of heat coming up through and around the handbrake next to drivers seat. Is this normal for these vans. When I wind windows up and put external flow, thru fan on on dash panel it doesn't get hot. Does anyone k ow,what the problem is please. I can't drive around with the air con on all the time. Thank you
Over on the passenger side, there is a lid when lifted you gain access to the engine below, this lid has a rubber Lind the entire lid, if it doesn't seated properly when closed you will get heat coming up from the engine. Theron Smith from Jamaica

I have a toyota hiace 2.5l from Japan. It recently developed a problem that I cannot exceed 80km/h. Everything looks normal except the self speed limit. What could be the problem?

The bottom track for the sliding door is sunken where the bearing rests when the door is in a closed position. what is the best way to treat with this problem? why is this a problem ?When the passenger cracks the door handle the door does not slide readily because there is a sticking point on the sunken part of the track where the beating rests.
Remember the door step is above this area, it could be excess weight cause stress on the fraim below. Theron Smith from Jamaica

My venerable 1993 Hiace 2.7 diesel camper is still going great at 145,000 miles but whenever I have been driving it hard, 80mph or up a long hill, another fan switches on. The sound of this fan seems to be coming from under the driver's seat. (this is the mid engine version where access to the engine is gained by lifting up the seats). I've searched many times to find this fan to no avail. Does anyone know where it is and how to get access? Thanks, Clive.
Clive, I have EXACTLY the same question, have you found anything else out? At least its not just my hiace, i was beginning to worry. Could it be a an oil pump? Mark from Bristol
To begin, only one fan afixed to these Hiace . if the fan is the clutch type you are likely to experience the above symtumn . because of the load going up a hill the fluid in the fan sence it, therefore the fan has to spin a little faster to cool down the engine. Theron Smith from Jamaica

Have you tried the manual button inside the back door? Raising this enables the inner handle or outside doorhandle to be sued. The auto locking might have failed. DerekM from South Yorkshire
