Hi. My Toyota Hiace 1kz turbo diesel is starting badly. It always starts but when it starts it`s rough and the motor shudders with a bang . I glow it 2 or 3 times which sometimes helps but not always. I replaced the glow plugs and checked they all work. Maybe it`s the fuel pump timing but it runs mint when going. Any ideas would be helpful please? Thanks. (1kz turbo diesel)

Hi there, I have a Toyota Hiace 01 and after I bought it I started to get central locking problems gradually until it just stopped working. I then had a replacement installed which has worked great until yesterday, when it was making a quieter locking sound and not locking and now all of a sudden it’s stopped. Unfortunately they key on all doors but the passenger door does not work from the outside. As you can imagine this is annoying. I’ve been told that the solenoids could be knackered but then I phoned an auto electrician who said they won’t know till they look at it at an expense of £150. Any help would be appreciated. Does anyone have any idea as to what it could be?

I have a 2000 Toyota Hiace and the hazard lamps are stuck on, although they aren’t flashing and will not respond to the dashboard switch. I had to disconnect the batteries in order to turn them off. I am suspecting a malfunctioning flasher unit and/or water ingress? Prior to this the van had not been run for about five days. Any ideas?

Hi, I started my Toyota Hiace van this morning and discovered the following problems: 1. Lots of engine noise like a loose fan belt. 2. Oil light went on immediately and stayed on. 3. I could not depress the brake pedal, it appeared to be locked. The only other point to mention is that I haven’t used the van for about two weeks, but the engine started straight away and the vehicle was running normally prior to these problems appearing. I’d be grateful for any advice. Any ideas please?

My Toyota Hiace once lost coolant and overheated. I replaced the head and put on a new head gasket. I checked the block and it was said to be okay. I removed the thermostat since my country is generally hot. The temperature gauge now operates at half mark and occasionally goes beyond whilst driving around town. I have cleaned the radiator, changed the water pump and radiator cap. What could the reason be for the gauge rising?

I have a 2004 Toyota Hiace Quantum 2 kd diesel. I parked it a few weeks ago and I could not start it the following morning. Now my mechanic has discovered that there is no power going to the injector nozzles, although the fuel is flowing from the nozzles it is not firing. What could the problem be? It is giving me code P0089 which has to do with the fuel pressure regulator. What has that got to do with the nozzles firing? (Quantum)

My Toyota Hiace 2kd engine (2005) does not brake properly. When you step on the brakes at times it loses the grip! The other day the inner brake pad on the passenger side dropped, forcing me to stop the van with the handbrake. I have replaced the pads but it`s still not good!. Since the incident the handbrake light is showing, even when the handbrake is removed and the vehicle is moving. How do I get the handbrake light off?

I have a 95 Toyota Hiace Van with 1RZ engine (carb). Recently my mechanic changed the exhaust valves. The engine starts perfectly when it is cold and I can drive the van. As soon as the engine temperature reaches normal (temp gauge needle in the middle) the engine loses it`s ability to move. My mechanic has changed the distributor, adjusted timing, changed spark plugs and wires (original Toyota) and still no difference. I need help asap please? Thanks in advance. (1rz)

Hi there, I have a Toyota Hiace. When you start the engine it responds perfectly, but when I start driving it for just about 200 metres it loses power. I tried to switch off the engine and start again but it behaved the same way after 150 to 200 metres, it lost power again. Can anybody give me an idea of the solution to this please?

Hi all, I have become the very proud owner of a 20 year old Toyota Hiace camper which needs a bit of tlc although it generally runs well and is in not too bad condition for it’s age. I have no info on the internal workings of the electrical equipment and recently went to start the van after it had been standing for a length of time. Schoolboy error as I should have disconnected the batteries. I have two questions if anyone can help out? 1. Does anyone know of a haynes/owners manual I can get to help me work on the van? 2. In view of the flat battery can I connect the mains to the van to recharge both the engine and the leisure batteries together or will it only charge the leisure? Many thanks.
Can’t help with manuals, but have a very similar camper. Charger is only installed on the rear leisure battery. I had been told that the rear battery is connected to the engine battery and, if fully charged, can boost starting (and/or share the charger), but RAC said this arrangement is very rare. Certainly doesn’t happen on mine. - Trevor Hislop from Australia
Try a charger for your battery and trickle in. Ours the same when stood, it’s the cold. The 12 v won’t help, start it, it’s for the internals. - Caroline Thursfield from England

Until 4 weeks ago my Toyota Hiace van drove perfectly. Then came the snow and the roads are permanently frozen now, thus a mix of ice and asphalt. Above 60 km the van makes a noise related to moving on the road and increases in tempo with increasing speed. It sounds almost like there is wire around the kardan/drift shaft and slapping the undercarriage. I hear it from the left rear, my partner from the left front. There is nothing visually amiss, no wire, etc. Turning the engine off does not change the noise, nor does putting it out of gear. The van is stored in a heated garage daily and thus there is no ice build up. Wheel nuts are tight. Nothing obvious. Any suggestions please?

Hi, I`m having major squealing in my Toyota Hiace van 2005. I`ve changed the water pump, changed the bearings for the automatic tensioner and both idler pulleys and still the squealing occurs. Just to note that when I take off the engine belt the loud noise is gone. Could it be the compressor or alternator and if so is it a common problem? (2kd)
I think worn fan/v belts should not be ruled out. Check the condition and replace with originals - Henry Kamwendo from Malawi
The sprag clutch in the alternator is more than likely the prob. - Bruce from Australia

Change your fuel filter, I have a 2010 Hiace and it started to run lumpy especially over 55 mph. You could put your foot to the floor and be hard pushed to get 60mph. Had new fllter fitted and seems to have cured it. Hope this helps - Neil Powell from Cheshire
