I have a 2007 Hiace 280 D-4D 95 SWB. It's just done 77500 miles. When does the timing belt need changing? Is it 60,000, 70,000 or 100,000 miles??/ There seems to be lots of opinions. By the way the light hasn't come on... Also my local garage seems to want about £500 (ish) fro the job.. is that about right. It's a fab van by the way apart from the rear wheel drive; it seems to slips on seagull spit. That's the only fault mind :) Thanks J

My local garage has quoted me £500(ish) does this seem about right?? By the way it's a fab van apart from the rear wheel drive. Might change tyres for M&S. Thanks "ANYONE"

the 'breather' is the air inlet panel. u should feel the air gushing in, or it should pull your shirt in. if not, its sucking from somewhere else, and should make a deep blowing sound. chek the air inlet pipe to the engine, its usually suspect, or chek the air filter lid is closed properly. if it sucks dust it creates a grinding paste in the engine, that causes serious damage. gilmour, zimbabwe gilmour from Zimbabwe

I have a 2008 Hiace with Diesel Engine. Of late the engine has been so difficult to repair/service and I am considering changing the diesel engine to a petrol engine. Is this a feasible option technically/mechanically? The cost of changing the sensitive parts of the diesel engine is prohibitive and the used petrol engine is cheaper, readilly available and cheaper to maintain. Any experience doing this and what are the risks?

Hi, I bought a second hand Toyota Hiace from a friend and it was once involved in a minor accident but since then I took it in 3 times in 6 months for a crankshaft seal replacement. I would really like to know what causes the seal to leak oil in less than 2 months? Last time I made sure I bought an expensive seal but it as usual never lasted but began leaking. Please help meRegards Ed

Answers

sha ed, maybe the crankshaft has gone smaller, a few micrometres can cause this. or maybe the housing could be suspect. unfortunately u might need to open the engine to chek that, so if its not too serious u have to keep with it. or make sure the seal is being fitted properly. sometimes the outer shell can crack due to improper fitting, or excessive force wen fitting. next time wanza silicone. gilmour from Zimbabwe

The timing belt has gone on it and I need to know whether it will have completely wrecked the engine, as I know in some vehicles it does wreck the engine and some it doesn't.
