Hi, I'm having a Toyota Hiace 2.5 Diesel. The problem is when I engage second gear, the engine lost power and begin to stall. In order to avoid stall, I have to use first gear followed by third gear. Using the computer to check, it says the Crank shaft A sensor is no good. After changing it, the problem comes back again. Appreciate if you can advise. Thanks

Hi We own a 2001 lwb hi-ace van, and on a reasonably hot day (39 degs Celsius) after a full days work, the radiator warning light came on and the oil can over water light flickers on and off as it wishes, and the temp gauge went up to high, this all started whilst the vehicle was operating, but after letting it cool down and checking the oil and water leveks were full , the warning lights still persist. Questions are ; why would it overheat in 38 degs Celsius. why are the warning lights still on after its cooled down and why did they come on at all ?

hi i have a 1998 Toyota hiace, that will run fine, then as you get to top gear it will shudder bunny hop, like running out of fuel then stall, wait 20 min and will start, prior to that if you try to start it, it sounds like no fuel and smell petrol. after 20 mins the car will run and then do the same, leave for a day and you can go 30 klms no prob, pull up go shopping you just don't get home ? I put new fuel filter on replaced fuel, new spark plugs, applied fuel additive any ideas will help.

Answers

Hi, I had a similar problem with an '83 Subie a long time ago. Problem was solved by removing a fine mesh filter which is the last point of petrol entry on the carby body and was continually blocking at highway speeds causing the car to "run out of fuel". It would idle OK and allow the carby bowl to refill only to go through the cycle again...and again and so on. Quite a while before this, I had picked up a tankful of tainted fuel from a flooded underground tank and over time this had formed a slurry which caused the problem. Drove from Melbourne to Perth like this. Ugh! Hope this helps you. Brian Williams from Australia

Your alternator is faulty it may have worn brushes, it will still start if it has charge but battery light will still stay on. If you charge battery up it will start but you will need alternator fixed or check alternator belt maybe loose or snapped off. Teinakore Manapori from New Zealand

Hi, I have a Toyota Hiace Super Custom 2.4 diesel automatic. Recently my driver hit a rock and damaged the gearbox sump tray but he stopped immediately as the ATF started leaking out. It was towed to a garage where the sump tray was replaced and new ATF filled. However after everything was put back up, the gears could not shift. We started the car and let it idle for a while to pump up the fluid but still the gears could not shift. I called my friend who has a bit of mechanical mind and he managed to shift it into drive by some mechanical tricks but it does not shift to any other gear at the moment. It is stuck in the drive. What can cause this? Is it a kind of some safety lock mode or what? It was never driven without the fluid after the incident so the issue of damaging the gearbox is out.

Answers

I had the same problem with mine after I had the auto trans replaced and it was quite silmple, the trans fluid needed topping up, so just check the trans fluid level. Jeremy from New Zealand

Check and see if the linkages on the gear selector of the transmission are bent, sometimes just shifting it by hand in that area will free it up as an impact could have bent linkage. Teinakore Manapori from New Zealand

Toyota Hiace

Hello! We recently purchased 1988 Toyota Hiace. Been running fine, today it started cutting out whilst driving. Was a 134km/83 mile drive. No rev counter, sorry! Basically, idle's fine, very low revs fine but once you put your foot down to the bite point, engine staggers, revs drop and stalls, unless you push your foot all the way down, then revs will shoot up again. So yeah, could drive it very unpleasantly! Every stop requires full rev to get going without stall. Any ideas?

Own a 1985 Hiace, its backfiring a lot and stalling at traffic lights, it's an automatic though so shouldn't be stalling. I've changed the spark plugs but looks like it's the carburettor. How urgent is it to need to get this fixed? Going to been driving over 1000km's within the next week. The vans done 283,000km's already. Cheers

The engine management light is on constantly. The van runs as normal but the speedo and odometer have stopped working, also the fuel gauge is not instantly working but takes a while to register how much fuel is in the tank. How do I sort it out?

Answers

I don't now what you call management light , i am going to try to address your question. Now if your van has a gear box , may be your speedo meter cable is broken and for a automatic transmission ,check your fuse box to see if you have any blown fuse or check your transmission underneath the van to see if any of the wires have falling loose. It hasn't started since the ecu got extremely wet (my sons had a light bulb moment and decided to pressure wash the entire interior and exterior of the bus). Its been left it to dry for a few months and it still not turning over. I cant afford to replace the ecu. So if anyone has an idea on how i can fix the ecu myself? or know of something else that would be preventing it from starting? I would love and appreciate the suggestions. Thanks a bunch :)
