Does anyone know what would cause the passenger brake light to stop working on my SEAT Leon?

SEAT Leon 2001

My SEAT Leon 1.9 TDi has a problem which occurs every so often out of the blue. The car’s heater light flashes and doesn’t allow you to rev it and I have to drive the car on just the clutch - has anybody either experienced this or have any idea what might causing it?
