Hi. In the last two weeks my Renault Scenic went into the dealers to have regulator and loom change for a window problem. After that my fan made loud noises as if something was caught in it for about a week, then it suddenly stopped and was okay. Now I’ve been told by the garage that the pulley connected to the cam belt has gone and will cost me a fair amount of money. I need to know if and when doing this window work could the dealer have caused this pulley problem when doing the wiring etc, as it all seems very coincidental to me that all this happened at the same time? Thanks, I would appreciate a response.

I have had my Renault Scenic for two months and it has been okay, but yesterday morning it accelerated on it`s own. I took my foot off the accelerator and it continued to accelerate, the revs went up and the car continued to speed up. At first I thought I must have got the car mat stuck or a sticky pedal but the same thing happened on the way home from work in the evening- this time followed by the red engine failure light. I called for roadside assistance as I didn’t feel I should continue to drive the car, but it had appeared to reset? So no fault was apparent. When I took it to the garage (still under warranty) they rang and have just said they can`t find anything wrong. I`m terrified, I will find myself out of warranty in a month`s time with a hefty bill, not to mention having to drive a car that is unsafe! Any ideas? (i music)

Hi there. On Sunday we were running low on fuel and our Renault Scenic started jerking, so we went to a garage as you do to fill up and even after we filled it up it was still jerking. Then it flashed up on the dashboard to check emissions and was smelling of egg. What could this possibly be and is it expensive to get fixed? Look forward to your answer, thanks.

I have a Renault Scenic 2003 model. We are trying to insert the key in the key slot but the key doesn’t go in fully, only half of it. Seems like there`s something inside the slot but when we look inside we can’t see what’s inside. Is it locked? What must we do to get to the bottom of this problem?

Heat does not come out of the footwell on my Renault Scenic, but the heater motor still works and the heat comes out of the vents and the dash. Can anyone help me please as winter is creeping in?
I’ve got the same problem, been told by the garage that a flap in the heatercore is broken and they need to replace the whole thing, which will come to nearly £1000. Ouch! Would be nice to have an independent confirmation of this. - EuroTyke from England

I am having problems with my Renault Scenic. When accelerating the car seems to shudder from the back end where the exhaust box is. It does not sound like it is blowing and only does this intermittently. I just wonder what could be causing this problem?

Hi my Renault Scenic 1.5 DCI recently failed it`s MOT on the main beam failing. I managed to get it fixed and since then whenever I put on main beam it now sticks on. The only way to turn it off is by turning off the engine. When I returned it to the repairer I was told the UPC unit was water damaged and needed repairing - a further £350 on top of the £155 already paid. Does anyone else have experience of this or know a quick fix? Any help appreciated.

Hi. Last week I replaced the battery on my Renault Scenic. Then a few days later it wouldn’t start and again a few days later. It was taken to the garage after push starting it and they replaced the alternator and the regulator. When I collected it I drove about 10kms and then the engine died. The mechanic came back and tried to get it going to no avail so the car had to be towed to his workshop. He put it on diagnostics but didn’t find anything and after further attempts to get it started noticed that the engine and none of the pulleys was moving, he thinks it is the crank. What else could be damaged and how much would it cost to repair or should I just cut my losses? (1.6 RXE 16 Valve)

Hi there. I have a Renault Scenic and have noticed I am losing power when going into third gear and sometimes I have to go into second gear. When driving downhill today my handbrake light and stop sign came on and the dashboard bleeped twice and went off. I took it to a garage and he said it was my clutch but I have had no problems in changing gears. Could anyone help me?

I hope someone will be able to assist me. I replaced the battery on my Renault Scenic last week and then it started fine for a few days but then would not start. I took it to a service station and they said it was the alternator, this was then replaced along with the regulator. I collected the car, only to have it die on me as I got to work. The person that repaired the car came out and he had a look, said he had no idea as no matter what was tried it was just dead. They have had to tow it back to the garage. If anyone has any idea what the problem could be I would be very grateful? This is the first time I have owned a Renault and I have to say I will never make that mistake again. (1.6 RXE 16 Valve)

I have a 1999/2000 Renault Megane Scenic automatic which I had a problem with. As there were no spares available at that time I had a manual gearbox installed which was expensive and it only lasted about 6 months when the clutch packed up, so I have it in the shop right now with the new clutch installed. The problem is when they came to start the engine the engine turned over and all electrics are normal except there is no ignition. They checked the tdc sensor and said it`s okay. I then personally checked with security key and the doors lock and unlock normally. I have been trying to think what else it could be? The owner of the shop said I`d better send it to Renault in Caracas by truck which is about 2/3 hrs away. Can you think of anything else it can be?The car was driven to the shop so I know the engine is okay. Is it possible that they have touched something when removing the clutch? I hope someone can help me? (Oh I forgot to mention the shop does not have a scanner). (motor 2000)

Hi all. I`ve just fitted a second hand automatic gearbox to my Renault Scenic but it`s still yet in limp mode after having it apart and it`s only had 3.5 litres of fluid in it till it gets properly done by Renault. It seems if you put your foot on the accelerator up and down quickly you get a rattling noise and if you hold it at 3000 rpm it`s there all of the time. My first thought was it was a tensioner but it sounds like it`s in the middle of the engine. It`s a 1.6 16v petrol, but then it sounds like it could be from the gearbox - I have had this out twice on my drive already. I have been a mechanic for 25 years and I`m stumped on this. Please help someone? (dynamique)

Hi, can anyone help me? Last year the turbo went on my Renault Scenic which was replaced. However now I am using an awful lot of oil, at least a litre per month (I average 600 miles per week). Should I be very concerned? On my dash it reads check injection, however when linked up to diagnostic it does not show a fault, only glow plugs need replacing. Any ideas anyone? (DC1 1.9)

I had to change the ignition switch on my Renault Scenic as the old one broke. To do so I disconnected the battery, changed the switch, reconnected the battery and now the car won’t start. Has anybody got any idea as to why? (1.6 petrol)
The ignition is coded to the key and recoding is expensive. A cheap fix is to take your old key fob and remove the blade and replace it with a blade from the new ignition or tape the old key to new key I have done this and it works Aok. - John Whitlock from Dorset

I bought a new battery for my Renault Scenic 6 months ago. Today low battery is showing on the dash. I checked it at the garage who say I need a new alternator. I got it home after several jump starts but now it won`t start and all sorts of messages come up (service etc ). I just want to know if I have the alternator repkaced at £245 will it solve the problem, as I need a first time starter in my job? Any advice would be appreciated, I just feel like getting rid! (53 2.0l 16v)
Hi Claire, don’t pay that price, you’re getting ripped off. A new alternator is only £63 to buy, make sure you’ve got the right voltage of battery for that size of car, it should be about 600 amps and go on ebay and get a cheap alternator and get someone private to do it - James Herraghty from Lanarkshire

Hi, I have a Renault Megan Scenic. At idle the car revs very high, but the moment I put the clutch down and into gear the revs drop from 2.5 or 3 [at idle] to around 1.5. This came on suddenly. What should I do?

I have a nice 2003 Renault Scenic 1.9 TDI 80 BHP. It gets along okay on the flat but really does not like hills. Does anyone have any idea if this is a fault or just my car? On a local steep hill I get 46 mph and if I hit a motorway hill at 60 mph I will manage 50mph on the hill. (1.9TDI 80 BHP)
Hi there, i have got a 2003 Renault Scenic 1.9 dCi. I am experiencing exactly the same problem. unfortunately I have not been able to solve it! I took it to a garage and they put it on the diagnostics. They suggested changing the (EGR) valve and (Mass Air Flow Sensor). This didn’t make any difference. I decided to go to a Renault specialist and they could not find a fault! If they can’t tell you who can? They said it was running at about 75% power and suggested starting with filters etc. I put in two bottles of Forte Turbo cleaner and this improved the performance slightly! Judging by other people’s experiences, it sounds like the Scenic is known for its rubbish turbos that blow all the time! I don’t know why I bought a Renault ahhhhhhhh! Hope this gives you an idea of the long road of hell you face? I have just accepted that I won’t throw any more money at the car, as something else will probably go wrong! - Stephen House from England

My Renault Scenic suddenly lost power and stopped. It still turns over okay but will not start. It was recovered and taken to a garage who said that there was no compression on two cylinders and that the crank wasn’t turning and the timing belt has snapped. I had it recovered to my home and on inspection found the timing belt to be okay. I did suggest at the time that it might be a lost key code. Would this let it still turn over and the dash lights are normal? Any suggestions?
Sounds like what happened to mine a couple of weeks back. Ignition worked fine, but died as soon as I took my foot off the accelerator. It was the cam sensor that needed changing - Lisa Dee from Yorkshire
If it cut out whilst being driven and now has no compression it’s most likely to be timing belt failure. The belt may still be intact but it could have lost some teeth causing the engine to become mis-timed - Paul Guttridge from Yorkshire

Hi. Where can I find the spot lights connector on my Renault Scenic? The service centre man told me they don’t have a connector. They didn’t repair but it was in good condition and the light still okay before going into the service centre. Both sides lights failed after they removed my engine to change the large plates that connected to my starter. Any suggestions?

I had the head gasket and cam belt changed on my Renault Scenic Dynamique approximately 6 weeks ago. Since then it has not felt ’right’. There`s an intermittent loss of power and feeling like it’s going to stall when in first and second gear. I just tried to go out in it now and it starts okay but then just cuts straight out. It will rev but as soon as you take your foot off the accelerator it dies, no idle whatsoever. Any ideas? Also could it be linked to the recent head gasket work?

I had the handle on the boot of my Renault Scenic changed and since then the lock has made a loud noise when I press the key to lock the car. Can anyone advise me what this is please?
