My Renault Megane Coupe-Cabriolet`s engine turned off whilst I was closing the roof and the roof is now stuck. Other "problems" are appearing by the minute. How do I close the roof manually and will my other problems such as a spanner lit up be related?

Nothing happens when I try to operate the lower roof button on my Renault Megane Coupe-Cabriolet. The fuse is okay and there are no beeps. If emergency mode is selected and I start the engine while holding the roof open button for 10 secs, the pump can be made to run and the roof unlocks at the windscreen top. However there is no further action and the boot lid doesn`t open or fold back. The boot lid works fine in normal mode. Does anyone know how to solve this problem please? (1.6 cc)

My Renault Megane Coupe-Cabriolet has a problem with the roof which goes down but doesn`t come back up. A friend who knows quite a bit about cars looked at it and thinks it is a sensor. Do I repair it and if so does anyone have an estimate of the cost? Thanks.

When trying to put the top down on my Renault Megane Coupe-Cabriolet 2Ltr dymanique petrol, I noticed that the back driver`s window was sticking and the boot lid would only lift up about 8 - 10 inches. We took the rear driver`s side panel off and noticed a wire had come off the spindle inside the panel. We placed the wire back over the spindle and the window started to go up and down as normal. When we had put everything back together we tried to put the top down again but still it only lifted the boot by about 8-10 inches. I lifted the boot lid this morning (3 days later) and the boot lid has suddenly become very heavy and will not stand up on it`s own. Any suggestions? Help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I purchased my Renault Megane Coupe-Cabriolet vehicle privately in November 2011. Unfortunately, I noticed damp markings on the drivers door about a month after purchasing it. The damp marks have continued to appear and are now on the passenger door, on the back of the driver`s and passenger seats and all over the back seats, now leaving white stained marks. Could you give me any idea as to what is causing this. To date I have never found any leaks coming from the roof, well no water anywhere in the car. Help. (Petrol 1595)

HI. I have a 2003 Megane Cab. I had this problem for months and it drove me crazy. Then a mechanic told me that the Cam Sensor needs replacing. It is right at the bottom of the engine and gets full of muck and goes out of sync. Renault have done an amendment to the design, and you local Renault trained mechanic should be able to fix it for you. It is literally ’one in - one out’.I have had no problems with this since I had this job done about 18 months ago. Good luck - Kathryn Edwards from Yorkshire

Hi all. My back windows are always playing up. I wondered is it possible to disconnect the back windows completely and have the roof still open and close?
Answers
Hi, I have the same recurring problem with my rear side window, I have to remove the seats and panel (about half hour job) then wiggle the motor and rectifier, this seems to sort it, it may be water getting into the motor and stopping it working or a bad connection. If this doesn’t work then you will need a new rectifier or get it repaired. Hope this helps. See the answer to Jak Ryder’s question, this may help - Shaun from Lancashire
Try using contact cleaner on the contact for the switch for the windows in the drivers door (in the panel). Because water runs down the inside of the glass and into the panel, the connectors can get water on them and need cleaning - Martin Brady from England
Had same issue with mine (55), called Renault and it seems it is a known error, if under 7 years they will pay 75% of the repair, had both rear windows done. 1 last year was £105, and this had the drivers side down for £160. Help, I have two problems. 1. The service light is on and an airbag light. The car does not require a service and airbag has not been used. Somebody has said it’s a wiring issue. Can I fix it or is this a garage job at a high price? 2. I have had all the windows repaired (regulator issues) during the last two years. Two weeks ago, the driver’s seat was saturated and I have water coming in from the door or window. Renault garage says this is a two day job - one day to test for water leak, order the parts, day 2 to repair. £68 an hour. Does this sound right or can a non Renault dealer do it cheaper? Any help appreciated. Thanks.
Answers
Hi. Airbag light and service light will be down to a bad connection in the wiring socket under the passenger seat. This is for the occupancy sensor for the passenger air bag usually looking under the seat and wiggling the connector sorts the problem out. As for the driver’s seat being wet, my experience leads to it pointing to the sunroof, there are a couple of drain holes at the front left and right side, these get blocked and allow water to come in. Hope this helps - Neil Rees from Cambridgeshire
I had this airbag problem and was told it is common. Mine is a dodgy connection under the seat. It happens when I bring the seat forward to let people in the back. The way I have found around it is to disconnect the cable under the seat then reconnect it (with MOT fail, if you put it in with light on). Hope this works for you as well - David Beal from England
This is a comment, not an answer. BTW, thanks to those who have replied. I have just been told the leak is due to door seal needing replacing at a cost of £860+. The airbag sign is due to needing a new rotary arm - £220. I have asked garage not to do the work and will have to look at what I do next before selling the car. Hi Ian, at present, I cannot answer your question, but I have the same problem with the boot opening re an intermittent fault. It actually sometimes opens whilst I am driving. I think that the boot switch / release may have to be replaced and I’m looking into costs. Also, as you will be aware, there is always a lot of moisture in the boot at this time of year, which may have affected the wiring. I’ll try to further advise. Regards - Derek Petrie from Dumbartonshire
Thanks Derek, the boot won’t open at all with boot switch now and like your problem, it will open when driving. A new switch from local Renault dealer is about £28. I have ordered one for Sat 14 Jan ’12. Hopefully this will cure the problem - Ian from Sussex

Hi, I’ve just bought my Renault Megane Coupe-Cabriolet second hand and love it. However, I am starting to get a lot of condensation inside the car. I can’t find a leak at all and it does appear to be only condensation but need to do something about it soon as it’s becoming a pain. Can you give me some advise on what I can do about this please? And is this a common problem? Thanks.
Answers
It’s because the roof moves around a lot when you drive and air gets seeps in and out, I’ve only ever had a couple drops of water inside and that as after the heaviest rainfall I’ve ever seen the last month but I can always hear air - Colin McNulty from Sussex
Nonsense, it is because your seals, which conduct water away, are blocked and so let water back in. The tubes are behind the wheel arch covers on both sides. Remove wheel, remove wheel arch cover, clean drainage tube and remove any muck that could be in there. And then repeat on the other side. A long thin screwdriver is pretty good at unclogging the tubes. If you’re getting water in the footwells and from the sunroof/passenger light console this’ll sort it. I’ve had both issues and blocked drainage tubes are the cause of this - Renault Migrane-Owner as it says further down in this list of Q and As - Bilbo Burgler from Yorkshire
I have exactly the same problem, mine is caused by two water leaks where the rear windows meet the boot. I can’t see any water coming in but that’s where the condensation starts when it rains. I can’t see any water inside the car but the condensation is so bad I sometimes have to drive it with all the windows down so I can see where I’m going. Which isn’t much fun when it’s raining. Renault have been trying to fix the problem along with the other three leaks for over four years! I’m sorry it’s not much help - Suzanne Howey from England

Just purchased a 2003 Megane 2.0 Convertible and am occasionally getting the message ’check injection’ along with the service light. And when this happens, it is very jerky when pulling away in first gear. UPDATE: took it back to the guy I bought it from (still in the 28 day warranty). Drove 60 miles to his garage, and it never came up with the problem. He put it on a computer, cleared the codes and we went for a run in it, and then he plugged it back in,and it showed no faults. Drove 60 miles home,no problem. Two weeks later, I have got the toxic fume light and service light on constantly and yesterday the check ignition light is back on,along with kangaroo performance in first and second. Can anyone help? Was wondering, I have RAC recovery, will they come out and fix it?

I have recently bought my convertible Megane. After taking it for a wash, I noticed the driver side window was letting in water at the very top and I can’t use the electric window button to put the window up, it will only put the window down! Also the service light has just come on along with a symbol which the manual refers to as the toxic fume indicator. Does anyone know what this means and is it expensive to fix? Please help!

Can anyone show me or tell me where the drain tubes (rain-water) are on a Renault Megane Cabriolet.
Answers
The tubes are behind the wheel arch covers on both sides. Remove wheel, remove wheel arch cover, clean drainage tube and remove any muck that could be in there. And then repeat on the other side. A long thin screwdriver is pretty good at unclogging the tubes. If you’re getting water in the footwells and from the sunroof/passenger light console this’ll sort it. I’ve had both issues and blocked drainage tubes are the cause of this - Renault Migrane-Owner

Hi, I changed the battery in the key fob and the central locking and immobiliser were working but slow to open. Now this has stopped, I can’t start the car and I have to open doors manually. Can anyone help?
Answers
You need to recharge the car battery. Had that problem this morning, the engine started straight away and stayed on after we started recharging it - Mira Hariyono from Indonesia
Usually when you change the battery or remove the battery for a short time you have to press the fob button several times (7-10 can’t remember ATM) before it resyncs again with your car. Happened to me when I was cleaning the fob inside because of the slow unlock. Try also cleaning the IR LED too - Renault MigraneOwner from England

My Megane won’t start :( When I put the key card in and press start, the dash lights up like a Christmas tree with every conceivable light possible. The engine doesn’t start. There is a dash message that says steering locked, and the next message is check roof hand book. This looks like a seriously expensive fault as I can’t get the car out of the garage. The automatic gearstick won’t move out of park. Any suggestions?

I had exactly the same problem in same year of same car (manual gearbox). It started on jump leads. Turned out the battery was done. I bought a new battery. I think it’s recommended you change the battery every five years. Get your alternator checked to ensure it’s delivering a charge to the battery. Also this week it refused to start, unrelated problem I think. The starter fuse has blown - Sean P from Northern Ireland

Hi, I am looking to purchase a Renault Megane Cabiolet 1.6 on a 04/54 plate. It’s done 75,000 miles, however the cam belt, pulley, alternator belt water pump etc were all replaced last year when the vehicle had done 45,000. In the last year it has done 30,000 miles as it was used for business purposes, my question is when should the cam belt be changed again ?

Hi, can anyone help? My bottom back seat is constantly wet! We have removed the seat and found a puddle of water underneath but are not sure where the leak is coming from. The roof doesn’t appear to be leaking, but when ever it rains then we find a pool of water where the seat should be. Could it be a problem with the troughs, where the water runs away! Please help.

I have the coupe cabriolet 1995. On several occasions I heard the faint sound of sloshing water. I have had problem of ingress of water soaking the floor and puddling behind front seats. Windscreen wiper motor failed and on removal of panels to access motor it was found to be lying in water which had drained from the windscreen and hadn’t drained away due to blockage in 2 drain tubes situated in the trough. The drain tubes cannot be seen or cleared without removal of panels. I have removed both of these drain tubes because it was impossible to clear them in situ and I have not replaced them. Since then the floor has remained dry - Frank Oxley from England
Thanks Frank and Nikii/ Our 56 plate CC has had some water leaking in around the clutch pedal for the last few weeks now. This results in a sloshing noise that may be heard in the cabin and around the dash area. After a car wash or heavy rain it enters the car in the driver footwell. I suspected the drain vents but was unsure and did not wish to start taking to bits if not the case. Off to do it now. Cheers - Tim Whitworth from Nottinghamshire

I’ve had nothing but water leaks ever since I bought mine new in 2007. Renault have been trying to fix it for the last 4 years but all they do is cause more and more damage.
