My question is my bus runs smoothly with no smoke out of the back. I had done a trip to Glasgow and back full on leaving it filled up on return worked out mpg, it came out at 19. The rev counter at 70 is 3000, at 75 is 3500 in fifth gear. Any ideas? I was told it could be down on compression, cheers Jimmy

I have an ex-ambulance bus which I hope to convert to a Motorhome. I would like to know where the vehicle data plate is located, so that I can order the correct parts. As when asking at local parts stores the reg number doesn't throw anything up. Nor does the vin number. I have a digital workshop manual, but without the vehicle data details I can't use it. Thanks Colin.

Hi The van was driven for four months over the winter when i went abroad. On return the coolant was empty and there is now a severe loss of power and it really struggles up the hills, drives fine down hills. I have put injection cleaner in, changed the fuel filter and driven 500 miles but its still the same I have refilled the coolant twice in the last month, cant see where the coolant is leaking or going to and it seems to empty randomly, more on long journeys. There is no white steam / smoke or black smoke, no warning lights, temperture gauge is normal, it starts fine and there are no strange noises. Loss of power seems to slowly be getting worse. What could be the problem? Thanks

It`s losing oil, happened quite suddenly and mechanic thinks it could be the Turbo? Certainly the engine seems to hit a flat spot around 65 mph, there seems little point asking as some of you are worse off makes me feel guilty! But if you can help I would be most grateful. Here is my final question, why do we do this to ourselves? Renault are obviously unreliable as a manufacturer so how are they in business? Do we hope the next one won't be as bad when in our heart of hearts we know it will? First and last for me, I have seen the light!

Hello, I am working on my girlfriend`s horsebus, it's a Renault Master diesel 2006 (100kW I believe). It stopped after an hour`s drive after 4 months standing still. After a couple of minutes I could start it again and then it stalled again. Some days later I changed the fuel filter which was contaminated with micro-organism. After the change I was not able to start the engine (a pity I didn't try before the filter change that day). I got help from a former car mechanic so the system should be properly bleeded. We can't find any bad connectors. We loosened a connector to one of the injectors, there was fuel coming but for some reason the injectors are not opening. The fuel cut-off switch should be ok since fuel is coming to the injectors. The engine starts on start-gas but there is no smoke so I guess that no fuel is entering the cylinders. No fuse is melted. Is there any relay that can be bad? Any other ideas? What is a bit strange is that I was able to run the engine for some minutes a couple of days before the change of filter, but something was bad or imminent broken so I guess it is totally broken now. It is going to the Renault workshop this week if I can't fix it myself. And another thing, for a long time we have had problems with the radio/cd-player cutting out temporarily whilst driving. I read that that could be a faulty ground or something behind the dash, perhaps it is connected? The cabin and horse-compartment have been very damp for some months by the way, even the slightest mould has been found on the seat and some blankets in the car, just for info. So, any ideas? Thanks in advance

Damo, Fife

Renault Master

Ok guys hi, I am now on my second engine in my 2.2dci Renault Master after a bad engine repair. The newer engine is from a Movano. I have to date had all the injectors helicoiled new copper washers due to it chaffing. A new turbo at £400 all serviced, timing belt done etc etc. My problem is within 6 months of having all this 2 of the 4 injectors started leaking and were spitting diesel all over the engine. Back to the garage and needed some big bolt kit? to hold them in. However just under a year and wala the 4th injector now has the same problem. Not only that but I also seem to have an oil leak coming from a bolt on the rocker cover. Tighten it, no oil leak, a week or two passes, has worked it's way loose again. I think but not sure but seems to be a plate behind the power steering pump and looks to be seeping oil also. That's the big problems but there's more, power steering belt snapped and 3 times later knackered the bearings in the power steering pump, had to be replaced? Although now there's a new one fitted doesn't kick in straight away. It is massively stiff when started, hold it over hard for a minute or two and then kicks in, works quicker with slight revs. Please help I'm on £8600 so far on a 51 plate van. Can't afford to buy new, need this fixed and running for at least another year till my newly establishing business picks up

I am on the lookout for a van and have come across a 1999 lwb 2.8tdi with only 88000 genuine miles, it has been really well cared for. My mechanic tells me to stay clear of renault but it seems a good buy to me. Has anyone had one and what is reliability like. thanks.

Answers

I've had one of these vans for years, mine had done nearly 300,000 miles with only a few niggles. I did change the gear box for a second hand one but overall a great van. I used mine as a camper and travelled all over France no issues. Good on fuel and buckets of torque. Buy it if you haven't already. Patrick williams from Flintshire

Oil level, mine was same and would not go in 3rd. It was parked on slight slope so moved it onto level ground. The next day all gears could be selected so oil level was low, common fault. I heard when they build these masters they never top up gearbox oil. Hope this helpsglen from Somerset
