Why does the "check emissions" light flash on the dashboard of my Renault Grand Scenic after new coils have been put in and the diagnostic shows no fault, other than it saying "petrol low"? The car is still slightly juddering and struggling to pick up speed again after slowing down. Any ideas please?

Answers

Hi. I’m having the same problem at the moment but from what I can see over most of the internet is that one of the coils may have failed from the coil pack. Have you got yours sorted now? David Evans from Norfolk

Hi. I have just had a check injection message pop up on my Renault Grand Scenic 1.9dci 130 after a fap. I have had Renault take a look at it, who identified an 85g particle filter level and I was advised to replace it or a possible flush. Before taking the car to the garage the car performed normally, but as the garage couldn`t do anything today I have to return. On leaving the garage I noticed that I could not go over 2500rpm, I`m guessing in limp mode. Is this normal for the car to drop into this mode as a safety option? (1.9dci 130)

I am unable to unlock or lock my Grand Scenic with either of my smart keys and therefore I am unable to secure it. I have changed the battery in the keys and checked the fuse. Any ideas?

Answers

Hi, just have to be able to get under bonnet, disconnect battery, then hook up a battery pack that is fully charged. When you do this, you must leave keycard in slot and drivers door open, this will intern teach your keycard the codes for your card as you would have lost them when you took batteries out. This is able to be done as back up for drained battery and will then star. If you have push the button, you will need to hold it down for 10 seconds even if engine has started - Richard Cook from Norfolk

My Renault Grand Scenic shows a ’check injection’ message on the dash, the temperature gauge goes up and down, causing the car to jerk badly. What could the cause be? (1.9 dci)

Answers

It could be the sensor on the turbo. It happened to my 1.9 dci Scenic last month. Also came up with ’check emissions’. £120 to replace solenoid valve on Turbo at Renault dealer - Peter Cotterill from Cambridgeshire

Had similar problem on a dci Laguna. Replace your temperature sensor on engine, location either on thermostat housing or down side of engine gearbox side. If still no better, take egr valve out, check if broken - if just clogged up with carbon, clean with old toothbrush and carb cleaner until egr valve opening and closing. And if your car hasn’t had an oil service in last 6,000/10,000 miles, change oil and filter and take out road and foot down through lower gears just to clear any unwanted soot out. If this helps, remember regular oil changes! Hope this helps - Darren Hurst from Northern Ireland

I have only had this Renault Grand Scenic a week and had no problems. This morning I unlocked the doors but the dashboard did not light up at all apart from a red flashing light and nothing is working in the car, no hazards, no engine, nothing. Does anyone have any ideas as I’m completely stumped?

Answers

Same thing was happening with my ’04 Grand Scenic. Your battery connections are loose, tighten them up with a spanner. That sorted mine out. Beware to make sure your car is in neutral before you tighten the connections! My dashboard would light up but then fail to start when I pushed the button. All the dash lights turning off except the red light flashing and as soon as I moved the cables to the battery it made the attempt to start. It was in gear at the time and jolted forward while I was standing infront of it! It did cut out straight away. However it did give me a fright and I got a bruised knee as a result! Thanks Renault! - Michael Moran from Ireland

I have just brought an 05 plate Renault Grand Scenic. How do I know whether it has a hands-free keypad and how do I program it in?

Answers

Hi there, if hands free you can keep fob in your pocket and the door will open when hand is on door handle also just press start to get started. Programming can be obtained by checking out a Renault card key repairer. The one in Palmer Green London repaired my key and got a spare as well - Kelvin Britton from Berkshire

My Renault Grand Scenic’s engine has been overhauled. Now, when I drive the car there is a slight jerk, almost like she loses power. I have taken the car into a Renault Dealership and their diagnostics shows "INJECTORS". I also noticed that the car makes almost like an air-brake sound at times. When I put my foot on the accelerator their is a puff of smoke that comes out of the exhaust. I have thrown Injector Cleaner into the tank and am driving the diesel till it is finished. What could be be the problem? (1.9DCI)

The reverse lights and off-side side lights on my 2007 Renault 1.5DCI Grand Scenic were not working. I replaced all bulbs (two were blown) but the lights still won’t come on? Took it to the garage who said that its the fuses that have blown but they have been unable to find a fuse box for the lights. It’s been in four times while they try to locate the fuses (to no avail). Can you help? Have been without these lights for a week now.

I wish I knew as it also happens to me and I have also have a 2005 Grand Scenic. I have decided that it’s related to the battery but I’d love input from someone with a clue - Fiona Lalor from Ireland

Same thing happens to my ’05 Grand Scenic, but it still does it now even after new battery - H from Warwickshire

The problem you have is the dephaser pulley needs replacing. I have the same problem on my ’05 Grand Scenic and the quotes to carry out the work are high! Just looking at other options before booking into the garage! - Mark Cleal from Somerset

The noise is from the starter. The fly wheel is not retracting quickly/far enough when the engine turns over. Changed the starter motor on mine (05 Scenic), which was a nightmare of a job but it hasn’t fixed the problem. I checked the original starter and it’s okay. Therefore it must be an electrical/computer issue. The signal to the starter that the engine is on is not getting to the starter in time. Horrible noise - John from Ireland

Hi, I have a 2004 Renault Grand Scenic. The car starts and drives fine but the engine light has come on and dash displays "check emmisions". I am having it checked with diagnostic: 6 messages all relating to the camshaft. The mechanic reckons a new dephaser pulley and timing belt, costing around £500. I have a feeling he may be trying to rip me off. The car drives lovely. Please hellllllpppppp!!!!!!!

This same message happened to mine last week. I searched Google and most people suggested glow plugs which I changed for £35 and got it sorted. However mine is a diesel 1.9 55 plate. Hope this helps - Cameron May from England

Ignition coil pack faulty. Buy a set of 4. Cost £220 if genuine Renault part. Takes 10 mins to replace set - Peter Roberts from Cheshire

Same thing happened to me. Coil packs will sort it out £80, it cost me for four - C Parker from Derbyshire

This happened to me on a 2007 Grand Scenic I got four weeks ago. It was the camshaft sensor that needed replacing. Not sure of the cost though as it was under warranty, but hope that helped! - Ryan Murphy from Ireland

It’s the immobiliser chip in your key card, the car’s not reading it for some reason so won’t start. Have you lost the little insert (traditional key)? - John Geraghty from Ireland

We have this with one of our two keys - intermittent fault at first (then worked one way round, but not the other) permanent now both ways - though like yours still does the doors. It’s the key itself apparently. Suppose if one works, the other doesn’t, must be. Renault says they are £180 (isn’t that lovely and reasonable for a piece of plastic) so for the moment are making do with one key. You also need all your DVLA docs etc to get one, ID etc - so hassle and money. Great. Typical Renault. Never again. Our car is same as yours - 05 plate Grand Scenic - Jeremy Woods from Cambridgeshire

My car has been playing up for a couple of weeks. It will just cut off when I was parking and now the whole dashboard disappears randomly, the clock and mpg started playing up at the weekend going back to zero but today, I have lost the dashboard three times while driving which doesn’t affect the car’s driving but I lose the speedometer and have no idea how fast I am driving! Phoned a Renault dealer and they say I need a new dashboard costing around £500! Anyone else having this problem?

Answers

Contact Renault Customer Services. It is a known fault on this car and they should authorise a dealer to do it for £100 - Ron Coe from Northumberland

I had same problem, I phoned one Renault garage that told me it would be £500 to fix. I rang another garage and they said same thing as the person has commentted, it’s a known fault and is covered by Renault for the lifetime of the car, that Renault pay towards the cost, and all it would cost me was £100 (including VAT). I asked why other garages hadn’t informed me of this and they said some garages don’t use the warranty as it eats into their dealership profits, so make sure wherever you take it offer the Renault warranty - H from Warwickshire

Is the car misfiring? Get an OBD diagnostic check done, you probably have a bad connection on an injector, inlet manifold and fuel rail need to be removed to fix it. Also had the pencil coils replaced on our car, now runs like a dream - Mark Archer from Kent
