I have a Renault Grand Scenic it is 2L 16V 2005 automatic model. I'm having endless trouble with it. First of all it will run fine for days or even weeks and then all of a sudden while driving it will stall and tell me to push the break and start button. No other errors appear on the dash. All I then do is start the car again and it starts fine each time there after but cuts out a couple of times before I get back home again. The next day it will work fine again and may only stall again in a couple of days. Yesterday it stalled and when I tried to start it would not, the engine would just not kick over. I had to have it towed to the dealers to find the problem but now the car is running fine with them! I have recently had it serviced and the gearbox oil changed it was having this fault before I serviced it and was hoping the service would fix the problem. Normally before it cuts out I can feel it changing into gear whereas normally it is smooth when changing and I feel as though I have to give it more petrol so that it does not cut out. Can anyone help with this issue as I have spent so much money on this car and taken it to 3 places and no one can fix the fault!

Fault with indicators..... Automatically come on when engine is started and randomly come on when the car is all locked up! Only way to turn them off is to start the engine and turn indicators off. Any help would be appreciated to rectify the issue. Thanks

I have an 06 plate scenic and i need to check the oil level i cant seem to find the dip stick anywhere to check it am i being thick? Does it have 1 ? Also where do i fill the water up for the radiator ? I have managed to put the screen was in ok thats about it ?? sorry but i have no clue about cars Please help.

Answers

If you have the 1.6 petrol engine the dipstick is located at the front of the engine, slightly to the left but underneath the manifold. Coolant reservoir should be in the corner on the left side of the engine bay, translucent plastic tank with screw-on cap. Hugh from City of Glasgow

my clutch has gone on my car will this stop the car from starting of the button

Answers

It shouldn't unless on your car you need to press the clutch pedal down before the starter will work. If there is some issue with the clutch pedal travel then the starter may not work. There is a microswitch on the pedal which has to be actuated before the start circuit is complete. Hugh from City of Glasgow

Lynn Meyer, South Africa

Renault Grand Scenic

Hi All. Hope someone is able to help. We had to replace the gearbox of our Grand Scenic 2009 DCI (7 seater). This took about three weeks and so the car was standing. After the the gearbox was installed the car started without any problems. Took it for a test drive and all seemed fine. The car was then switched off and when wanting to start again would not start. We jumped started with cables and she started but once going there was no power and kept wanting to die. We then took the battery out and charged it for 18 hours. Put the battery back and she started again. We then took her for a long drive and we got the following faults. Battery charging fault, Power steering fault with engine, seatbelt and abs warning lights on. We got home switched the car off and when trying to start her about an hour later she is completely dead. What can the problem be. Is it the battery. Regards Lynn

Answers

Have the 0v/earth cables been refitted to the gearbox housing? Some cars use the gearbox housing as the main engine earth point and it's easy to not connect it correctly. It does cause lots of weird faults. Colin Harris from Kent

Hi, my message display showed a message "GO HOME 60" The hand book does not explain what this means, please can you help ? Also we have had the message recently "STOP BRAKE SYSTEM FAULT" however the car is having the brakes looked at tomorrow, with new pads all round. I wondered if the messages are related to same fault, i.e. just the brakes ? FYI - the car is now at 68K mls. with first set of pads fitted all round at 40Kmls

Answers

Go Home 60 means that when u flash ur lights once, it should say Go Home 30 then twice for 60 three times for 90 and four times for 120 seconds. So basically ur front lights will stay on for that amount of time then turn off. It's for when u get home and maybe it's completely dark, so gives u that extra bit of light to see where u are going and then they turn off. Dee Georgio from Hertfordshire

My husband was returning from town to take me to the airport& rang to say the car had just stopped without any warning at all.The car was towed to a garage but they couldn't do anything for 2weeks,my husband decided to have it towed to our local garage (whom we knew.(we had a renault scenic 4x4 fiji) for 11 years. We bought the car in January with only 5000 miles,& since then we have done 5,000miles approx. We have just learnt today that it was the clutch, which we are very surprised,as we had no warning signs at all. Is this normal after 10,000 miles? I have been driving for 0ver 50 years very carefully,& have never "ridden the clutch" Please explain. P.S. Luckily my husband was not on a main road or motorway.

Driving home tonight the engine warning light kept flashing on then all of a sudden engine shutoff and wouldn't start or even turn over. Dash showed 'Oil pressure fault' then 'Battery charge fault' once I had got it off the road even the normal handbrake wouldn't release. Waited for recovery, couldn't connect his OBDII module so tried disconnecting the battery for a while, when it was reconnected the car started and was able to get me home, has anyone else had this problem?

Hi, I have recently bought a Renault grand scenic. Went to start car but the dash was clear apart from a little red flashing light so couldn't start car. However when we removed one of the fuses from glove compartment (top middle orange fuse) the dash then comes on and I can start the car. Put when we put the fuse back in it says electrical fault on the dash and can't start the car when this fuse is in. Just wondering if you know what this could be and how much it's going to cost to fix it. Thankyou very much

I have just bought a six month old Grand Scenic and the radio keeps cutting out. There seems to be no reason or pattern to this, it is just a random phenomenon. It comes back on eventually, after varying lengths of time. Whilst the radio is out the cd players and other sound systems work perfectly. Can anyone explain this and perhaps suggest a remedy?

Answers

We've had loads of problems with our Grand Scenic since new. The radio cutting out (or swapping randomly to CD) was looked at recently and, touch wood, has been resolved by the garage switching us onto DAB radio. Samantha Smith from Northumberland

Hi, I have a 1.5d grand scenic with start stop 2012 model. Recently when I stop at traffic lights and the start/stop is activated, when I start the car up to pull away the orange spanner, abs and check vehicle flash up. I have had the car for 3 years and its only just started doing this. Ive had it to Renault and they say theres nothing wrong with it and its the car going through its self diagnostic routine!! surely it would have aways done this? Also it thinks the back seatbelts are always fastened and then it beeps and flashes as if they've been unclipped, this happens when the back is empty and also when they are fastened. Its been in to renault 3 times for this to be fixed and yet its not. Has anyone any ideas please.

There are many many electrical problems with the renault rane. Some require some sort of repair/replacement to remedy them but many of them are justgremlins in the system. Here;s a little tip which will cure many of the faults thrown up. Disconnect the battery. Take the red lead which goes to the battery and connect it to any earth point on the vehicle for a couple of seconds (not the battery positive, the red lead which goes to the battery positive). This action forces the computer to dump it's temporary memmory. However, beware that you will also lose any personal settings (such as auto headlights preference and your radio code etc) but it will not alter any manufacturers settings of your vehicles computer . The dumping of the temporary memmory will clear any spurious codes and faults in there but be aware if it is a genuine fault then the code and symptons will return and will need further investigation.
