While driving the steering lock came on and a visual warning came up on the dashboard "Steering Fault". I had to do an emergency stop, as I had no control of the steering at this time. I then turned off the car and back on again and the steering was working fine. Why did this happen? The car had a service last month.

Hi there. Can anyone perhaps help relieve some stress. We have a Renault Grand Scenic and couldn't get booked in this week for its 36,000 mile service. The service counter has now got to zero and the display days "service go to dealer" and the orange spanner is on. Now our dilemma is we are booked to drive on holiday tomorrow and it's around trip of 600 miles. Question is, can we go or should I hire a car or simply check oil and top up if necessary. Thank you in advance. Have a lovely weekend. Mark.

Hi, I've recently purchased a grand renault scenic 05 . When I've connected the radio up its comes on but then has a continuous beeping every 3 or 4seconds ? Also the radio doesn't display on the dashboard ? I've checked the fuse and all seems ok. I've also disconnected the radio and plugged it in again. Also tried another radio but didn't get any output from that what so ever? I am puzzled? Any ideas as to what the problem maybe,I've been searching through the internet for and nothing has helped so far.

We have a Grand Scenic 1.6 Authentique 2006 model. Mileage on clock 44,000. Average mileage 4,000p.a. Last couple of years a slight 'knocking' noise has been coming intermittently from the steering column? Is it an MOT failure as that's due very soon? If yes, is it an expensive & difficult repair job? Has anyone else suffered this problem? Any advice would be gratefully received? Thanks for reading.

Warning - Renault Rear Windows went Haywire, they open and stay open when the lock car button pressed. This seems to be an electronic fault that just happens as they get old. BOth back windows will not lock or close, so my brilliant local mechanic has set them to stay locked and only work from the front door window buttons Beware if this happens as the ceramic window parts in the door can cost £500+ Hope this helps.

HOW do we switch this off the annoying beeping warning at 35 miles of petrol left in tank? PS - I've learnt how to change from MPH to KPH when driving in Europe, very good.

Answers

This is a very tricky problem. After many hours thinking about it I found a brilliant solution. Simple put some more petrol in the tank. It works like magic every time, the beeping will be gone. To prevent the beeping returning don't let the fuel tank level get so low again. An extra bonus is that you won't risk running out of petrol by driving around with a nearly empty fuel tank. No need to thank me, I'm very pleased to have been able to help. Smart Alec from Herefordshire

Hi my 2005 Grand Scenic had "electronic fault" on the dash while my wife was driving. A whole array of light came on the dash and power steering went and the handbrake didn't apply. I had a new fuse board fitted last December as the same thing happened just before Christmas. Does anyone have any ideas? or has it happened to you?

Answers

HI Simon there was a big recall a couple of years back on the Grand Scenics, as I have a 05 model too. Renault changed some sensors or similar. All the lights coming on could mean the circuit is just kaput I'm afraid. We used a local garage that specialised in renault as they plug it into the computers and analyse whats up. It shouldn't happen, but a renault dealer will see whats up, but it may be expensive. We once had a steering column go and it was under warranty thank god as my AA man explained it was a hefty expensive and 'rare' fault! email me if I can help anymore…but I recommend a good local cheaper mechanic who can do renaults… luckily I have two local to me. Last week I bought a 2011 Grand Scenic Dynamique from a car supermarket in the Midlands (130 miles away!)according to all the reports I had previously read about this model it is fitted with reversing sensors but the first time I reversed there were no beeps. The owners handbook "vehicle settings customisation menu" one of the sections one can access on the dashboard display gives adjustments one can carry out - sound volume etc. I have no such message on my dash display and I now notice there are no small round sensors showing on the rear bumper/ Is my car the only Dynamique with no reversing aid! Hi I have recently purchased a second hand Renault Grand Scenic 06. Even though I just topped up with oil, as soon as the engine starts up it tells me to top up oil and the service light stays on. Someone told my wife to put 15W/40 into the car, but I found out 15w/30 is the correct oil. Could this be the problem?

Answers

Hi Peter, None of the two oils you mentioned are correct. you should be using 5W/30 or 5W/40 fully synthetic. 15W is for old style engines and will be too thick for the tolerances in yours. I would advise changing the oil and filter ASAP before you damage the engine. If you search online for a 'European car parts supplier' you can get the correct oil at a reasonable price. With luck your oil light might go out after this. Hope this helps Stephen Stephen from North Lanarkshire

when driving our renault scenic auto it drives superbly, acceleration fine, except when slowing down to say approach a mini round about but not quite stopping and then you want to pull away again quickly the car is not responsive enough, it seems as if the gearbox has to think about it, it can be quite dangerous people think you letting them out then all of a sudden the car goes its very frustrating. Can anyone help? Recently I had a replacement engine fitted to my Renault Grand Scenic but it`s showing ridiculous readings, like average speed 22 mph and 24 mpg and when filled up range 220 miles on a full tank, when previously it used to show average speed 30 to 45 and 30 to 40 mpg and range double. What should I do?

Answers

Just a thought it could well need a ecu reset,it could well be that it still has some old information from the old engine and it is conflicting with the new information that it's receiving,a reset could solve the problem or once plugged in could give you a fault code that may fix your problem. craigo from Greater Manchester

I have a 57 plate Renault Grand Scenic which has developed a strange noise when the heater fan is turned on, I know it sounds strange but it sounds like water running. If I turn the fan off the sound stops. Anyone got any ideas?

Answers

the gurgling is the water building up behind the front wheel arch and then going above the intake for the fans. put your hands under each wheel arch and feel for an inch squared recess and press it in. Its basically a flap where water drains out after running down from the windscreen. it will become blocked with dirt and stay shut causing the water to build up and drain into the footwells. I ripped the flaps off mine as they are not really needed. Its a simple fix and you will be satisfied when you see all the old rainwater draining out - i got about 4 litres out of mine. good luck. its straightforward. regards Neil V neil virgo from Gwent

Answer this question

Vaughan Powell, South Africa

Renault Grand Scenic 1998

I have a few problems with my Renault Grand Scenic but don`t know if they are all related. Firstly the auto idle is not working, when cold it idles below 500 and when at running temperature above 1200, but that I have learnt to live with. What concerns me is that, as soon as the ambient outside temperature reaches 29 degrees C or higher and I demand more power from the engine, ie to go up an incline and not a steep one either, the engine starts to die off, as though the timing is going out. It`s weird, with the power setting at a specific range every 2 seconds as if power`s diminished slightly then power on for 2 seconds and so on until I come to a standstill at the side of the road and then cannot get any revs out of the engine, even with the accelerator on the floor. At this point I have to turn the engine off, wait 10 to 15 minutes, restart, then drive for approximately 2 to 3 km, depending on the gradient of the incline or power setting and then she starts all over again. Please can somebody tell me what is causing the problem? As soon as the temperature drops off again then no problem. At this point I can only drive at night when the temperature is below 29 degrees C. Please help?

Answers

You don't indicate which engine you have in your car, but the problems you describe would indicate a diesel and the symptoms those associated with EGR failure. It might be that the extremes of temperature experienced in SA might be exacerbating the problem. If my suspicion is correct, get it fixed ASAP before there is damage to the turbo mechanism. Hi, I have two questions. My Renault Grand Scenic locks and unlocks itself without me having to touch the keys. Is this a key fault or lock fault? The second is what type of battery should be used as I am in need of a replacement and am unsure whether to go for the top rate premium (bosche s4or s5) or the budget model (s3)? I would appreciate some advice from a good samaritan! Thanks. (dynamique)

Answers

Hi Dean in answer to your first question this is not a fault you have automatic locking on your car witch operates when you move the key fob out of range of the car sensors it will unlock when you move back in range, you may also find that you don’t have to put the key in the ignition slot to start the engine. Regarding the battery I always try for the best battery I can afford George Carlisle from England

I have the same the problem, the cardkey sends signal without having to touch keys. The cost for a new keycard from a Renault garage is £156. Jeff from Lancashire
