My husband was returning from town to take me to the airport& rang to say the car had just stopped without any warning at all.The car was towed to a garage but they couldn't do anything for 2weeks,my husband decided to have it towed to our local garage (whom we knew.(we had a renault scenic 4x4 fiji) for 11 years. We bought the car in January with only 5000 miles,& since then we have done 5,000miles approx. We have just learnt today that it was the clutch, which we are very surprised,as we had no warning signs at all. Is this normal after 10,000 miles? I have been driving for 0ver 50 years very carefully,& have never "ridden the clutch" Please explain. P.S. Luckily my husband was not on a main road or motorway.

Driving home tonight the engine warning light kept flashing on then all of a sudden engine shutoff and wouldn't start or even turn over. Dash showed 'Oil pressure fault' then 'Battery charge fault' once I had got it off the road even the normal handbrake wouldn't release. Waited for recovery, couldn't connect his OBDII module so tried disconnecting the battery for a while, when it was reconnected the car started and was able to get me home, has anyone else had this problem?

Hi, I have recently bought a Renault grand scenic. Went to start car but the dash was clear apart from a little red flashing light so couldn't start car. However when we removed one of the fuses from glove compartment (top middle orange fuse) the dash then comes on and I can start the car. Put when we put the fuse back in it says electrical fault on the dash and can't start the car when this fuse is in. Just wondering if you know what this could be and how much it's going to cost to fix it. Thankyou very much

I have just bought a six month old Grand Scenic and the radio keeps cutting out. There seems to be no reason or pattern to this, it is just a random phenomenon. It comes back on eventually, after varying lengths of time. Whilst the radio is out the cd players and other sound systems work perfectly. Can anyone explain this and perhaps suggest a remedy?

Answers

We've had loads of problems with our Grand Scenic since new. The radio cutting out (or swapping randomly to CD) was looked at recently and, touch wood, has been resolved by the garage switching us onto DAB radio. Samantha Smith from Northumberland

Hi, I have a 1.5d grand scenic with start stop 2012 model. Recently when I stop at traffic lights and the start/stop is activated, when I start the car up to pull away the orange spanner, abs and check vehicle flash up. I have had the car for 3 years and its only just started doing this. Ive had it to Renault and they say theres nothing wrong with it and its the car going through its self diagnostic routine!! surely it would have aways done this? Also it thinks the back seatbelts are always fastened and then it beeps and flashes as if they've been unclipped, this happens when the back is empty and also when they are fastened. Its been in to renault 3 times for this to be fixed and yet its not. Has anyone any ideas please.

There are many many electrical problems with the renault rane. Some require some sort of repair/replacement to remedy them but many of them are justgremlins in the system. Here;s a little tip which will cure many of the faults thrown up. Disconnect the battery. Take the red lead which goes to the battery and connect it to any earth point on the vehicle for a couple of seconds (not the battery positive, the red lead which goes to the battery positive). This action forces the computer to dump it's temporary memmory. However, beware that you will also lose any personal settings (such as auto headlights preference and your radio code etc) but it will not alter any manufacturers settings of your vehicles computer . The dumping of the temporary memmory will clear any spurious codes and faults in there but be aware if it is a genuine fault then the code and symptons will return and will need further investigation. My Renault Scenic's Hazard Warning Lights are coming on randomly. I have ti switch them off with the press button in the car. If left for a while, this will flatten the battery. Is their a quick fix or should I take to the dealer?

Answers

Your hazard warning lights can be set to come on in the event of an accident. They can also be triggered by an ABS fault as this fools the Hazards into thinking you have had an accident. Get someone with a decent dianostic tool to set the hazards not to be switched on if accident is detected. Then investigate to see if there is an abs fault.. Steve H from Cornwall

I have a 2005 Renault grand scenic which starts up first time every time but has hardly any power it's really frustrating! It's fine once going but if I slow down it just has no go in it even if I put my foot down I can't build it up again does anyone know what the cause of this can be, my husband says the clutch needs replacing but he's no mechanic so can this cause these problems? It's really embarrassing trying to drive it and getting to a point where I can no longer drive it on the motorways as I can't build the speed up quick enough

Answers

Turbo problem possible vaccuum related. Steve H from Cornwall

Sounds like you could have a number of faults. If it's revving and not going anywhere, then yes clutch, if not then there is an ignition system fault. You should need to change your coil pens, that's £108.00 You may also need to check your injectors, can't give a price on them. I'd clean the rail too. When your engine is running, is the engine shaking and the exhaust not sounding smooth? Like a putt putt noise? This will be the misfire. Other problems can be; Burnt valves Worn rings on pistons. Blown head gasket Throttle body sensor. Bad fuel Clogged injectors Faulty coil pack. Usually coil packs. Rory from Hampshire

Warning light on dash comes up with stop warning sign check anti pollution system. Last time went to dealer they said run up motorway. I am doing motorway at least one a week sign stays on what can i do

Answers

You need to generate a constant and high heat in the catalytic convertor to burn off the soot deposits within it. Get onto a motorway and get the vehicle upto about 65MPH in 3rd or 4th gear so that the revs are quite high and keep it there for some time- 15 to 20 minutes if possible. Alternatively their is a product on the market which you can add to your fuel tank which helps with this task, one of those products is called Forte but there are many others Steve H from Cornwall

On tyhe windscreen from the outside directly in front of where the rear view mirror is fitted there should be two round rins in evidence. Make sure the windscreen in that area is clear and that no stickers or crud is on the glass in front of those holes. They are the light sensors. Steve H from Cornwall

Hi I have a 1.6 petrol grand scenic expression and this morning it decided not to turn on. No warning, we've plugged it in and there's no error codes. The only thing that's different is the steering. I put the key card in, tried to turn it on and the steering unlocks then a message pops up, steering lock off remove key. If I do that the steering lock will go back on but unlocks again when I try and turn the car on. Has anyone experienced this or know how to fix it? any help greatly appreciated as I love my scenic!!
