Hi with our car when we go on long jurneys when we start the car up a wearning light comes up saying stop battery charging fault can you plz help me on what mite course this to happen

Answers

The alternator might have spoilt. For my case, the warning light come and go off intermittently at first, then one day it just stay there. If you continue to drive with the warning light on, the battery will run flat and lose power steering while driving. Then the car will not run and you have to tow it to have the alternator replace. This is my personal experience and happened to my 8 yrs old Renault scenic. leslie from Singapore

Hi. I have a 2010 Grand Scenic 2.dCi Privilege. I keep getting message on dash saying get fuel injecting & anti pollution systems checked. I have just had 36,000 mile service done & had new air flow meter fitted at there suggestion to cure the problem within days fuel injection came on 5 times then anti pollution came on, when this comes on it stays for days. The 1st time the anti pollution came on I took the car to the nearest dealer, they said to take car for long run to burn soot off catalytic converter. As I had just driven over 200 miles motorway I knew it wasn`t that. ANY OTHER IDEAS PLEASE. over to you. THANKS!!!

my orange warning light is on with the spanner showing and above it says service.I had it serviced 7 months ago (3000 miles)??

Answers

Hi Henry Did you have it serviced at a renault dealer ? If you did, they shoul dhave reset the service interval. If they have not done that then take it back and tell them to do it. Perhaps you had the service done independantly, if so, and the interval was not reset, you need to take it to someone with a decent diagnostic (preferably a can clip) and get them to reset it. Have returned to garage and they have said there is no fault with the work they have done. Anyone have any ideas before I spend a fortune taking it into Renault to have repaired ? Thanks x

My query is when I brake hard a message appears "low oil pressure" "STOP" ! I wonder what causes this? The local Halfords shop says it could mean that the oil pump needs replacing but they were not sure. I also called in the AA and they could not find any faults. Anybody had similar message and any solutions?

Answers

Have you checked the oil level. I seems very basic but if your oil level is low and under hard braking it move forward in the sump it can make the auto level reader give a false alarm. However not that false as it indicates a lack of oil/routine maintenance allowing this to happen. Betchworth from Surrey

I have a 55 plate grand scenic. I ad it MOT which it failed for a track rod end. However when driving home there was a complete electirc failure - nothing works. I pushed it to the garage and today have replaced the fuses and tested battery all fine - i noticed what looked like an electric plug hanging down from underneath the car with nowhere to connect it to (I dont know where this came from). However still nothing works. I have removed tension from the timing belt and the pump has not seized up. Still nothing. Also the boot wont open. Has anyone any ideas as i am coming close to scrapping the car.

The air bag warning light has come on again. It appeared before but went off without any intervention. What does this mean & what can I do to sort it? Thanks, Michelle

Answers

Hi Michelle, did you get this sorted? Ours flickers on and off, it did this after we first had it and the garage checked it over and said they could see no obvious fault, it can be triggered when adjusting the seats and that maybe the car was due a software update...it then didn't do it again for ages but has started again recently. The original mechanic said that the airbag system would still trigger and that if the system was faulty the car would go into 'limp mode' until it was fixed??? Nicola from Norfolk

Hi Michelle From my experience its down to the cable underneath the drivers seat, it is not long enough, so when the seat is pushed back to far it disconnects, air bag light then shows. Gavin from Worcestershire

Hi, I have a 2011 automatic Renault Grand Scenic & my Air Con is not working, it has been re-gassed & pressure checked & was told it might be the compressor. Could you please give me a rough price I can expect to pay for a new one please?

Answers

My 04 Grand Scenic was re-gassed and wouldn't work and you're meant to take it to be reset by Renault to be reset once it's refilled as when the gas runs out it tells the computer not to run the pump anymore. Unfortunately it doesn't tell the pump to restart once it's been filled. My hubby by-passed this and put a separate switch on the dash coz it was cheaper. Jennie from Northumberland

I have a Renault Grand Scenic 2.0 automatic which every so often will come up with 'Check Gearbox' fault then changes to 'Electronic Fault'. This mainly seems to happen when going up or down a hill. I had it serviced last year at a Renault dealer's and told them about this and asked them to check the gearbox level. The service was also to include a software update, but when I got it back it still had the problem. I would have thought they checked the level, but does anyone know if and how I could check the gearbox level myself? Thanks.

Answers

I have the same problem, mine seems to be related to the water thermostate, in that it always hapens at the same temperature, just as the thermostate triggers the opening of the valve to allow water to circulate around the whole engine. I can now pre-empt it and reduce the reves so to minimise the jerk as the car enters safty mode. This theroy is also backed up by the fact that this only really happens in winter. I have a Renault Grand scenic 2005 petrol 2.0. I have a problem of low battery and stop sign flashing up on certain speeds. Three speeds so far, one at 64, 90 and 109 km/h. There are no faults recorded in the logs. Renault South Africa and Renault Wonderboom have had the car for 4 weeks and they gave up. They replaced many components and price tag was large. Now I sit with a fault and I do not know if it is serious or not. The alternator have been checked, battery was replaced. Before this fault started, the scenic did have a problem of losing power while driving, cam was replaced and catalyst was removed. Power is moderate. Please help?

Grand Scenic TomTom... today hazard warning lights activated accompanied by a beeping alarm. First time I deactivated by pressing the remote lock. Happened twice again this morning and pressing remote merely deactivated the beeping noise while the hazard flashing continues. I had to open the car and turn off the hazard warning lights. Also the battery was discharging and I had to leave the engine running to recharge. Any ideas what the underlying problem is?

The key card keeps reading card not detected, have changed battery and still not working. Is there anyway that you can re programme the key card and what battery should it have in it just in case it's the wrong one?

Answers

It's a key fault, mine is the same, it needs a new key I`m afraid. You can get them repaired at some places and it's around £150 rather than the £350 for a new key card! I have managed to bodge mine temporarily by twisting it when in the slot, watch YouTube for a temp fix but you need a new card I`m afraid! syace from Worcestershire

I had the same problem. Turned out to be a small bit of plastic (a tiny strip off a crisp packet) had fallen in to the slot and blocked a microswitch. It's pretty easy to take the card reader out and look inside. No need to reprogramme anything when it goes back in either. Juanitoz from Oxfordshire

Hi, my Grand Scenic 1.5 diesel hydraulic clutch cylinder was replaced and a new battery fitted. When the car broke down, the clutch pedal went down and stayed down. I parked the car and switched the engine off and engaged into first gear. The recovery truck came and pressed the start button without putting the gear into neutral, it blew the fuse off the battery and the dashboard went off and never came back on. The electrician checked all the fuses and replaced the damaged fuse, but the dashboard (cluster instrument) is still off. I found this strange that the dashboard will need replacing due to an electrical fault as it is the 2nd generation 2009 model. Any advice or help is much appreciated. Many thanks

Answers

Chris, There was a known issue with the dashboard eletrics on Mk II Grand Scenics. I have an 05 plate where the dash went blank. Renault main dealer had to replace it for me as it is a Renault fault but due to the age and the mileage on the car I had to contribute £100 to the cost - not a bad deal. Take it to your Renault dealer and complain - good luck Ian from Northamptonshire

Hi, I bought a 55 plate Grand Scenic less than a month ago. Since we've had it we've had problems with the dash. It flickers on and off while you`re driving and everything resets. After speaking to the person we bought it from and being fobbed off constantly we had a huge problem this morning. My husband tried to come home after a night shift and the dash said "card not detected". After spending £220 on getting the car home we contacted the seller again and was told "sometimes this kind of thing happens and it`s completely unrelated to the dash problem", which is still on-going! I've found out that there is a fault with Renault dashboards and many cars have been recalled to replace the dashboard. I was wondering if anybody would know if it was at all possible if the problem with the dash (resetting all the dash settings daily) could have also caused the key card to also eventually reset, causing it not to work in the car anymore? Please help!

We had the car towed by the RAC. As a result they released the electronic handbrake. This was all fixed and reset. Ever since when we go downhill (applying the foot break and not accelerating) the break warning light comes on. As soon as you accelerate it goes off again. How can I get rid if this and there seems to be nothing wrong with the brakes but an annoying message and beeping.
