My speedo is broken and sometimes I have to go by what revs I'm doing to know the speed till I get it fixed. Thanks

Hi, my headlights come on as soon as I turn the engine on whether it is day or night. My headlights go off when I put the indicator on. I read about auto lights and tried to see if it was this by turning the light switch on and off twice but it didn't turn off the lights. Can anyone help please?

The electrics in Clios are not the best. I had a similar problem with my horn and my headlights in the fact that when I beeped my horn, the front left headlight came on. I found that it was my earth cable from the headlight which was causing the problem. You can fix it by attaching another length of wire from the earth in the headlight (I soldered mine in) and then attaching the other end to the body work with either a small screw or bolt and nut. Hope this was of some help James from Nottinghamshire

Does anybody know why clock lights go out when you put lights on?

Answers

They should only dim and not go out altogether - I think the car presumes that if you put the lights on it is dark outside and therefore, the internal lights dim so they are not too bright while you are driving. If your lights go out altogether, it could be an electrical fault. Jacobee from Cheshire

I have a Renault Clio 2012 Expression and I cannot figure out how to set the time. The Driver's Manual instructions do not work - in fact, neither display shown matches the dash display in my car! The instructions tell me to use the buttons on the end of the wipers control stick but they only reset the mileage info. I cannot seem to change the clock on the display at all. Has anyone got the same model car and worked out how to do this? Thanks.

Answers

I have worked it out! It is the button on the bottom right of the radio/cd panel (it looks like a T and an upside down T next to each other). Click that button and the settings options appear on the screen. You can then scroll to 'clock' and change the time. Jacobee from Cheshire

Hi, I have a 2.I Sport on a 52 plate. When I first got the car 3 months ago it blew white smoke out and smelt of petrol and was running as if it was only firing on 3. It cleared after a while and I took it to my local garage, nothing showed up they said. It has been fine up till today when it did it again, I had been on the motorway for 10 mins then came off and parked up, it took a while to start and when it did it was lumpy to say the least. At traffic lights we noticed a smell of petrol and white /blue smoke coming from the exhaust, was going to nurse it to nearest safe place to leave it but it cleared again, but I have lost any trust in the car now. Any ideas please as me and the garage seem to be at a loss?

First check that the battery is tightened down, that happened to me. Next thing is the bottom arm or the link bar, there is a left and a right hand one. After that it will be the top end of the shock absorber. This can be tested at a garage with a movement bar to detect any loose play by checking the wheels for upward differential play. It could also be the top end of the coiled spring, sometimes these break off by a quarter of an inch and you can't see it until the car is jacked up. Good luck and I hope this helps, had these problems myself. Self taught James jimmy j from Cumbria

My 2013 Clio 1.2 petrol would not turn over today. I put a new battery on it and it started fine. I tested the old one and it came up ok so I put it back on and it`s ok. I`m unsure if it`s an alternator problem or starter relay. Does anyone know the location of the starter relay please?

Answers

No, I don't but I have got the same problem with my 2012 Clio. In the last month, it wouldn't start on three separate occasions. After several attempts and some pedal pumping it gets going and I don't think it is a battery problem. By the way - do you know how to re-set the clock on the dashboard in this model? :-) Jacobee from Cheshire

Hi, I have a Clio 1.2 16 valve 2003 and I bought it for a bargain and the engine was in spares, so I rebuilt it and started it but now it doesn't want to rev up and idles very badly. I stuck my hand in the air box to feel the throttle, then my wife accelerated to see if the throttle is moving and it does open fully. Then I changed the fuel pump, cleaned all the connector plugs, cleaned all the earth cables where it connects, sprayed all the wiring plugs, but still nothing is better. Timing is 100% in order. I`ve tried everything and read everything that comes up to check. I`ve been struggling for 2 months on this car, no-one can fix it or tell me what is wrong. Is there anyone that can help? Please? Thank you.

Answers

This could be the throttle sensor which is over £200 new. Look on ebay for a second hand one, it is located under the rocker cover and cannot be repaired. The 8v ones are cheaper but unfortunately for the 16 valve there is a big difference. Before you do this check the throttle sensor cable which is below the accelerator pedal, sometimes these have a bad connection and a simple spray of WD40 normally remedies it. If the central warning light like a coiled spring (in red) lights up on the display one of these is the culprit. James self taught Carlisle. jimmy j from Cumbria

I have had my Renault Clio (2001 1.1 model) about a year, it's been running fine all this time however recently it has started juddering and jumping whilst the engine is on. I have noticed that when I am driving it jolts quite violently sometimes yet other times it is smooth. Also when I am stationary and in neutral I watched the Rev counter move up and down very slightly as the car still jumps while not moving. Any know why it's doing this?

hi, my car starts perfectly fine (for now) and when i turn the engind off thr immobisor light tended to flash one every minute which i considered normal, around once a minute. When ive switched the engine off today i have noticed the speed of the flashes has increased significantly, does anybody know why this may be and is this going to cost me a lot of money in the long run if i do not get it sorted? i literally cannot find a diagnosis for this anywhere.

Answers

Don`t worry this is normal and nothing to worry about, it`s just searching the inbuilt computer before setting itself. It sometimes happens but your immobiliser is working. Sometimes the key entry slot works loose and can cause this, that is where the key and coded link starts and finishes when you insert and withdraw the key. jimmy j from Cumbria

Hi, I bought my Renault Clio (1.5 DCI tomtom diesel) 3 weeks ago and only noticed the other day a rattling noise outside, almost under the car, when I slowly move the car forward or back. I plan to take it to the Renault garage to get it checked out, but I`m wondering if anyone had any idea what it is? I only have to drive forward about 20 meters before it starts to make a rattling noise (like a small stone in the car somewhere). I can`t place its location but it`s definitely toward the front end of the car. I can`t work out what it is? Many thanks for your time.

Answers

Check under your spare wheel in the boot first for a foreign object. Noise does funny things and gives the wrong impression of its actual location. Next jack each wheel up and spin for any noise. If you have a bottom engine cover check that nothing is lodged in it. More than that it`s the garage on a ramp. jimmy j from Cumbria

Help me how do I get my back passenger door open as it's jammed on any suggestions thanks

Answers

Unfortunately the door cover will have to come off. These pull off but with a little force, but there is a tool that can be bought on Ebay that levers the door off at the access points where the plugs are located. Be careful not to damage the door card, that is the official name for it. Replacement plastic fittings (plugs)can be bought on Ebay. The door lever connected to a coat hanger style fitting can then be pulled thus opening the door. Use plenty of Wd40 and a bit of grease which people seem to forget is part of a good car service these days and replace the door card by placing a cloth over the area and give the door card a tap with a hammer.
