Hi, i bought my renault clio (1.5 DCI tomtom diesel) 3 weeks ago, and only noticed the other day a rattling noise outside almost under the car, when i slowly move the car forward or back. i plan to take it to the renault garage to get it checked out, but im wondering if anyone had any idea on what it is? i only have to drive forward about 20meters before it starts to make a rattling noise (like a small stone in the car somewhere). I cant place its location but its definalty toward the front end of the car. i cant work out what it is Many thanks for your time. Regards John

Answer this question

Jacobee, Cheshire

Renault Clio

Hi everyone, I have just bought a 2012 plate Expression+ 3 door Clio and picked it up today (I got rid of my last one, a 2004 plate, because of water leaks, electrical problems and a revving / stalling engine). I am disappointed to say that despite only owning my Clio a few hours, I have already got a fault with it. If it has been raining (as it has been) and I open the boot, water pours from the boot latch - I got soaked the first time it happened. Water is clearly getting in somewhere and although I can duck out of the way and wait for the water to stop dripping, I am concerned about what this is doing to the car internally - needless to say, I am very disheartened to have bought a 2.5 year old car and already have a water leak! I thought trading in my old leaking Clio would solve my leak woes but apparently not. Has anyone else experienced this problem with this model and if so, what is the solution to fixing it? Renault - I am not impressed! Thanks in advance for your help.

My girlfriend has got a Renault Clio 1.4 16 valve + 3 door with keyless entry and we were checking if the car`s alarm actually worked? I sat inside and she purposely locked me in and walked off 20ft to see if I could set the alarm off being inside the car... Nothing happened so we decided to open the window and lock the vehicle to see if I could set the alarm off... Still nothing happened at all so I was wondering, has the car even got one, because it would be great to hear the alarm go off if someone tried getting in and taking the vehicle? If anyone has any answers it would be lovely to find out.

Hi My Clio started loosing power dramatically the other day rom about 1500 revs and at about 2500 revs it sounds like air is escaring. I've plugged it in and no error codes. Any ideas what it might be???? I but about 1 litre part synthetic oil in about a week ago as the shop said it was ok. It's a 2010 and it's never had any issues. Always running sweet as. The problem only seems to be under strain. But not on tick over.

Found this from an expert, The cure for Clio 2008 onwards - both dipped headlights or both head lights not working or will not turn off.. Fuses all OK and 'dipped beam' or 'full beam’ illuminated as normal on dash board. I traced the fault to a relay. The relay/fuse box sits on the top of the offside wing. right hand side of the battery. Not the fuse box in front of the battery. Access by unscrewing the two 'star headed' screws, the lid can then be removed. I advise the use of a Haynes Manual fuse/relay-box diagram to identify the correct relay, since inside the box are two bank of relays and two banks of fuses. Each relay has a part number indented on its top surface - take care not to obliterate the part number! Each relay is very difficult to pull vertical. It proved easier to pull all out in turn from the rows end. Place them so they can be returned in the correct order. Tip …. Check the water gulley is clear below the windscreen. If blocked water tends to overflow onto the relay/fuse box. Apparently access of damp getting into the relay/fuse box can blow a relay David from Kent

I have a 06 mk3 Clio 1.2 petrol. Took it for a drive yesterday and all of a sudden it started jolting while driving, only did it when the car was pulling, it seems okay when cruising. When it jolts it seems like it`s trying to cut out and all the lights dim when it happens. It has done it again today and as it`s a Sunday I have no garage to take it to. Anybody know what`s wrong with it?

Answers

Hi - had a similar problem with jolting on a Renault Clio, but an older model than yours. It was also sometimes revving high on its own, and cutting out at idle. It appeared that the battery had developed a fault and wasn't holding it's charge properly, although it always had enough power to start the car no problem. It was the type of battery with a battery condition indicator - instead of showing green, it was showing black, which mean it needed charging. I bought a new battery, but when I changed it I discovered fine cracks in the battery clamps (which fit onto the positive and negative battery posts). This meant that they weren't tight any more - and the more I tightened them the bigger the cracks became (of course!). I replaced the clamps with some much stronger looking new ones, and the car runs perfectly now. No more jolting, and the problem with the revs is gone too. I'd check how old your battery is (mine was 7 years old - they should be replaced roughly every 4 years) and check the terminals are in good condition. Chris from Midlothian

Help! I have a Clio Alize 1.4 2001. When I push the brakes my indicators stop working. Fog light is also on the whole time on the dash and when fog lights are on the indicators do not work at all. Also I discovered the 3rd brake light is not working and the right indicator flashes very fast. (If brakes aren't pushed). Are all of these connected? I`ve checked fuses, bulbs and they are all fine. Previous owner took the original radio out and replaced with a non factory radio plus rear speakers. I`m confused ..... please help.

Answers

This is a very common problem with the back light connectors. The black plug that goes into your rear light cluster becomes weak or corrosion sets in. You'll either need to replace and clean up the contacts or just try some contact cleaner. Delicately, using a fine screwdriver, move each contact the opposite way from the it's neighbour that way they should scrape the plug contacts giving a better connection. Keef from South Lanarkshire

My matrix is blocked solid, only let`s cold air in the car. Is there any way I can unblock?

Answers

Hi, blocked with, or by, what? Try draining the cooling system and flushing right through a couple of times. You might find it easier to use something called Radflush? I think its called; you pour it into the radiator via the expansion tank/bottle then put top back on and run the engine for maybe 20/30 mins, let it cool down and drain the system. The clean water should find its way around the cooling system flushing out any muck etc with it. Try it, it may work, remember to re-fill system with coolant mind, run the engine and, when hot turn on the heater and the blower. Of course it just be the thermostat needing replacing though. graham minett from Gloucestershire

Purchased a Renault Clio in October 2013. Since then it has been back numerous times with regard to the brake fluid leaking from the reservoir. If you park on a hill facing downwards the fluid leaks, as it goes over the rim where the cap is, because the lid is at an angle. Has anyone else experienced this problem as it seems that it is not just confined to the Clio. Please can anyone let me know as soon as possible as I am getting nowhere with Renault and they just do not know what to do.

Answers

Hi, have you tried parking uphill? Make sure the filler cap is sitting on correctly, is it done up tightly, graham minett from Gloucestershire

Hi, have you tried parking uphill? Make sure the filler cap is sitting on correctly, is it done up tightly, has it got any small splits in it? All these may sound trivial things, but you never know. Or, have you, or anyone else, overfilled it? Have you examined the fluid reservoir itself? Perhaps you could drain off a SMALL amount of brake fluid, (keeping the level above minimum), then see if it still leaks. Other than that take it to a "side street, local man" workshop, don`t ever go the main dealer, you will be paying into their pension fund. graham minett from Gloucestershire
