Hi the lever to pull up to select reverse seems to have broken. It will not return to its resting position making selecting gears a bit of a fiddle. I've been told I need the gear stick assembly replaced this means the carpet coming out. First question is it possible to do this from underneath the car without taking the carpet up? Also if we are changing the gear stick assembly is it worth replacing with a Yanoo while were at it or would that be a lot of extra work.

Renault Clio Campus Sports 1461cc 2006. It keeps going into "limp" mode. Some say diesel pump; some say glow plugs; some say injectors; some say the pipe that leads to the air filter and some say the fuel filter. I am a 67 year old widow. Can someone tell me where to begin or explain to me what the pipe that leads to the air filter does. It's the only bit I don't understand. Thank you

Hi, hope someone can shed some light. When I try to start the car, all lights come on, the moment you turn the key to start, there is 2 loud beeps, nothing happens further though. Thanks :)
Sounds as though vehicle start requirements not met, which clio do you have; year? engine type petrol or diesel? manual or auto transmission... Martin Burton from Dorset
Hey Martin, thanks for the reply. It's a Clio 1.2 2008 3door, manual, petrol. Peter from South Africa
Hi Peter, are you sure there is sufficient power in the battery? try jump starting, also try disconnecting the car battery for 5 mins.. if no luck possible immobiliser - do you have a spare key you can try? Martin Burton from Dorset
Martin, thanks, will give it a go! Will revert back. :) Peter from South Africa

Hi Do you know please how much can be cost change it? -nearside front Brake pad(s) wearing thin (3.5.1g) -offside front Brake pad(s) wearing thin Thanks
You need to have complete front brake pads replaced and not just the offside otherwise you could have a brake imbalance, Would not cost much to do - approx £45 incl parts and labour. Martin Burton from Dorset
Changing brakes are like changing shoes.. you wouldn't just get a left foot (unless you were amputee).. or you'd walk funny... same with brakes... changed in sets.. that's how you'll buy the pads.. kit for n/s and o/s.. but if they're wearing uneven, I'd try and look at why, or you'll be doing the same again soon !! Hi. I am having trouble with the semi-automatic gearbox selecting a gear. It will sometimes select and sometimes not. It seems to be worse when my battery is not fully charged, or is that my imagination?
No, I shouldn't think so, if the battery weren't charging you'd eventually be unable to start the car. Is the voltmeter reading between the red and the white bands on its face, IE around an average 13.8-14.2 Volts, engine running? If it's low or - if yours is missing the gauge and just has a lamp that goes off when it's charging, then is that lamp staying off, glowing gently as you're moving or staying on at full intensity? If the battery isn't fully charged then there's a fault that you want to address before you start in about at the transmission. Probably an alternator fault and if the car's voltmeter is questionable in its accuracy, then a simple DMM (under a fiver will do as this isn't fine work) from your local boot fair or Maplin will tell you whether all is well, look for between 13.8 and 14.2V at idle with all lights and such switched off, then put the headlamps up, the figure will dip slightly but then come back to within that range if it's charging. Hello my car has a vibration coming from the under body when i take off in first gear and is also sometimes evident when changing into second gear, especially if i am on a hill. The clutch doesn't slip at all. Im wondering if it may be a drive shaft problem or something to do with the clutch or gearbox??? . My mechanic said it is a common thing with Renault's but didn't give me an explanation of what causes this problem. It had a new clutch fitted about 3 years ago by the previous owner. I have only owned the car for about 6 months. Hope to hear from you soon Jodi

Hi I'm a new learner and have recently purchased an mk 3 Clio, my magnetic L plate sticks fine to the rear of my car but will not stick to the front at all no matter where I try on the front. Why is this?
The tailgate is made from steel, the wings, front bumper assembly and bunnet are, as far as I know, still being made from glassfibre reinforced plastics. Try a self adhesive L plate at the front or use double sided number plate tape on the L plate you already have. Noddy Rae from Orkney Islands

I have had my Clio for a year now and when I brought the car the passenger electric window never worked. I have recently had to fix the drivers side window as someone broke the cable on the inside by messing around with it. But went to fix the passenger window and I've changed the regulator and runner and theyre is no sound or movement when pressing the switch, but you can hear it clicking when I press the switch from the drivers side. Would this be completely electrical related or could be as simple as the switch itself Is faulty? A quick answer would be very much appreciated as I have the car in bits

I have just 'upgraded' to this from a Y reg 1l Corsa as I wanted something a little faster.. but it has no 'go' in it at all. I have been telling myself that I need to get used to the clutch but it just revs and revs when trying to take off after stopping. Is this me or is there a problem with the car? My sister has been in it and agrees that it seems sluggish. My Corsa was much quicker at take off (and that's saying something) Thank you!

When I'm driving in the night and I accelerate my car lights get brighter and my dashboard also becomes a lot brighter but if I'm not accelerating they both go pretty dim and it can be dangerous, any ideas??
Hi Holly, possible that your voltage regulator in the alternator has gone faulty.. or the alternator itself. R Evans from Caerphilly
^^^^^ Seconded. The car should have an integrated regulator so depending upon whither it's as easy to change as those in older (Lucas ACR) alternators, the easy way may be just to swap the alternator for an exchange unit which will carry a warranty. Noddy Rae from Orkney Islands

Hi The temperature gauge in my car is now off by + 20 degrees. I don't now how this happened as it was working fine and then one day it was completely off. Is there anything I can do to fix this? Thanks
Sean, it's possible that the sensor in the cooling system has gunked up, but with it happening all of a sudden it's a bit more likely it has gone faulty. It can be changed. R Evans from Caerphilly
Possibly? How would I check that out? Thanks Sean from South Yorkshire
Sean, the sensor is going to be £5 - £10 or so, just change it, its located on the gearbox side of the engine attached to a plastic housing usually, you will lose some water so get some anti freeze/coolant as well and top up the system after fitting it, total cost will be less than £20 if you do it yourself. third break light not working how do I change this and is it a sealed unit thanks
Sue, by "the third break light" I assume you mean the brake light in the boot door itself... this being the case you'll have a few options. On a few variants there is one screw to undo, pull the unit out that side then the other side unclips.. but on most there are two screws to undo.. pull the unit out and unclip the wiring harness. Then you can see what bulbs are fitted to match them up.. should be a row of er.. five I think unless you have a version where they only fitted one. When you refit the housing DON@T tighten the screws too much or you'll crack the housing. R Evans from Caerphilly
You can't replace the bulbs on the high level brake light. Just replace unit Get one on amazon for 25. Easy fitting Treesa from Berkshire

Hi guys, I have a Renault Clio 1.4 16v 2006 reg. Problem is my car won't start. I called the AA out as I had broken down whilst I was out they rescued me and ruled out a few things that it might be such as; crankshaft sensor and SASP (not sure what that is). However the following day my car wouldn't even open so I figured it was the battery as nothing works no headlights no door lights etc. The key to open the door is only on the passengers side and so I have to climb as the lock function doesn't work either and so the drivers door does not open at all even from the inside. The car battery is currently charging the doors now open but it still won't start any ideas? Thanks

Hi. I have 1.6 Clio automatic, not sure if at all related, new Cam belt fitted last week, now when driving car not happy to change up a gear automatically once I hit 30mpg. Any suggestions please
Juju, the changing of a cambelt should not have any impact on the gearchange, in fact, the cambelt is usually on the other side of the engine to the gearbox. If you have had to have cambelt changed then it is probs because the car has done quite a few miles. Have the transmission fluid changed. Manufacturers sometimes say that transmission oil is 'for life'... giving the impression that you never have to change it.. what they should further explain so as not to mislead people is that 'for life' means you don't have to change it annually like engine oil and filters... but after about 80000m it could do with a change.. the automatic transmission does not have the same clutch operation as a manual gearbox, but it does use clutch principles to enable smooth gear change... and it relies on the transmission oil to be able to do this.. so really.. automatics could do with transmission oil change a little more frequently.. in any event, you need to keep a better eye on transmission oil level AND, many gearboxes have a magnetic drain plug.. you can see if there is silt of metal filings in the oil giving early warning of failing box !
