Where to start? Yesterday my Renault Megane II 2.0L has started to make a loud whirring sound when accelerating quickly, sounds like it may be coming off the timing belt? Also, for a while now, it has been jerking when accelerating quickly, when the turbo kicks in. Also, my ESP and ABS lights are on permanently. I need help, my car needs help... Don’t know how many other things will break before I will have to start walking to work. (2.0-litre 16v).

A short time after locking my Renault Trafic with the remote control the alarm went off. Using the remote I opened and closed the van and this stopped the alarm. I left the van locked and on returning I discovered that the radio doesn’t work any more. Everything else is working and I’ve checked the fuses and they all appear to be whole. What else could be the problem?

When I start the engine I get a great plume of grey smoke coming out of the exhaust. It clears after a while. The engine takes a bit of revving to get it started. Hi. I have a Renault Kangoo van, 655d, year 2000. I have a problem in starting my van in the mornings, once started it would be fine all day. I just bought a new battery, glow plugs, and have just tested the battery for voltage and tested the alternator - they are all working fine, the voltage is what it should be. When I turn the ignition on first thing I do it twice so the plugs are having a good warm up before I crank it up. When I turn the key it really struggles to start. So can anyone give me some idea what could be causing this I have also checked earth leads plus battery terminals. Many thanks.

Hi. I have just brought a Renault Clio and it’s got a small leak in the corner. I am not sure if it from the door or the sunroof. Any ideas and is this a common problem?
Answers
It may not be the glass part (seal) on the sunroof. It could be the seal that the whole sunroof sits into the roof (the black rim), aquarium silicon + silicon gun (about £10). Cut the end off the silicon then pump as much silicon right into round the seal - quite messy and tricky but clean with wet damp cloth with ringer round the rim - hope this helps as I had the same problem - Ian Kerr from Mid-Lothian (Edinburghshire)

Battery discharged when car is not used for two or three days. New battery was fitted but problem remained. Radio tuner fuse was removed, upon advice from garage mechanic. Power to radio was found to be still ON? But windscreen washer pump failed to function? When radio fuse was replaced washer pump functioned again. Problem with battery drain remained. Radio tuner unit removed and battery drain problem was fixed. Now I have no radio, of course. Something appears to be wrong with the cars radio tuner and the cars wiring. Has anyone had a similar experience? What is the remedy? (Comfort)

Hi. I have a Laguna 2.2-litre diesel estate, 02 plate. When I put the card in, it runs through its checks and starts. After 20/40 seconds it makes a warning sound and then the Amber ’Service’ light comes on. There is no information. I have have checked the oil level and that seems OK, also I have checked the tyre air pressure and that seems OK too. Do you have any other suggestions, please? Thanks in advance.

Hi Roy, under the bonnet right handside (as you look at it) beside the battery, there is a fuse box. Lift the rear half up, this can be fairly tight but pull hard. There you will find some fuses, look in the fuse box cover you removed (check which way you hold it). One will stay start, in it is a 25 amp. Second from the right in the box, try that mate - Gary Wilkinson from Yorkshire

When I got it back, I found I had to slam it to shut it with the result that the slamming has loosened the bulbs over the number plate and don’t come on. Good day to you all. Can anybody help me? I have a Renault Megane 3 coupe, still under warranty. The engine starts stalling and I hear a big crank at the injector with a message saying "check injection". I took it it the dealer and they changed the fuel pump and 4 injectors. The car ran normally but after a week the same problem occurred again. It looks like the Renault dealer doesn’t know the problem exactly. Any help please? Many thanks (DCI diesel)

They did change the correct parts, however if the fuel lines were not cleaned or replaced then the metal shavings from your collapsed fuel pump have been sent down the fuel lines again and blocked the injectors - Liaml B from County Antrim

Help, I have two problems. 1. The service light is on and an airbag light. The car does not require a service and airbag has not been used. Somebody has said it’s a wiring issue. Can I fix it or is this a garage job at a high price? 2. I have had all the windows repaired (regulator issues) during the last two years. Two weeks ago, the driver’s seat was saturated and I have water coming in from the door or window. Renault garage says this is a two day job - one day to test for water leak, order the parts, day 2 to repair. £68 an hour. Does this sound right or can a non Renault dealer do it cheaper? Any help appreciated. Thanks.
Answers
Hi. Airbag light and service light will be down to a bad connection in the wiring socket under the passenger seat. This is for the occupancy sensor for the passenger air bag usually looking under the seat and wiggling the connector sorts the problem out. As for the driver’s seat being wet, my experience leads to it pointing to the sunroof, there are a couple of drain holes at the front left and right side, these get blocked and allow water to come in. Hope this helps - Neil Rees from Cambridgeshire
I had this airbag problem and was told it is common. Mine is a dodgy connection under the seat. It happens when I bring the seat forward to let people in the back. The way I have found around it is to disconnect the cable under the seat then reconnect it (with MOT fail, if you put it in with light on). Hope this works for you as well - David Beal from England
This is a comment, not an answer. BTW, thanks to those who have replied. I have just been told the leak is due to door seal needing replacing at a cost of £860+. The airbag sign is due to needing a new rotary arm - £220. I have asked garage not to do the work and will have to look at what I do next before selling the car. In shock! - Kathleen Davies from Carmarthenshire

I have had the same problem, going on two years now with my 05 plate, I have had the car into multiple garages even the Renault service station and no one can tell me what is wrong. All the garages just suggest they make a list of what it can be and start work, but that will cost me a small fortune. On Saturday, I had my recently changed cam belt and drive beltchecked and the guy said I have small deposits of diesel building on the drive belt so one of my injectors is leaking only a small amount but his may be the cause. Pop the bonnet and remove the large black covering to revel 4 silver injectors connected by tubing. Look under the black cover and see if you have any black residue, if so, you may have a leak as well - Rob Moreton from Somerset
Simple answer: yes - Stephen Follows from England
Sounds like either the injectors are leaking or it’s the leak off pipes. If it is the leak off pipes then it’s a case of a new set of "O" rings, but Renault don’t seem to sell these separately, only with the whole leak off pipe assembly for £70.00 - Rob from Somerset

Hi, I have a Renault Laguna and last year we had work done on our car and we had to have our key re programmed, as it wasn’t working. We were using the car up until a few months ago, the key was working to open and lock the doors but in the last few weeks it’s not working. Does that mean that our battery has simply died and needs charging or does the card need sorting again?? Is it pre-common rail? Have you bleed the fuel system and injector pipes? Is the vehicle fitted with a fuel impact soleniod, big black or red button mounted near fuel filter or on the rear of the bulk head in the engine bay depress the top and you will hear a slight click as it resets. Check fuses in both fuse boxes or on the rear of the injection pump, there is the immobiliser code box covering up a standard fuel pump stop soleniod, last resort cut it off and give the soleniod an ignition fead live. There are 6 wires which are used by the immobliser but only one supplies current to the soleniod, if the fuel pump soleniod has expired remove it take out the plunger, refit the body, rebleed and start. PS. You will have to stall it to stop the engine. The engine is the old Iveco 2.8 sofiam lump so you can get parts from either iveco or Renault but before you butcher the fuel system, check the timing of the engine. They do jump if they are tow started, timing it up is a piece of p*ss so don’t be put off. Good luck, merry christmas - Bill from kent

Hi, I’ve just bought my Renault Megane Coupe-Cabriolet second hand and love it. However, I am starting to get a lot of condensation inside the car. I can’t find a leak at all and it does appear to be only condensation but need to do something about it soon as it’s becoming a pain. Can you give me some advise on what I can do about this please? And is this a common problem? Thanks.

It’s because the roof moves around a lot when you drive and air gets seeps in and out, I’ve only ever had a couple drops of water inside and that as after the heaviest rainfall I’ve ever seen the last month but I can always hear air - Colin McNulty from Sussex
Nonsense, it is because your seals, which conduct water away, are blocked and so let water back in. The tubes are behind the wheel arch covers on both sides. Remove wheel, remove wheel arch cover, clean drainage tube and remove any muck that could be in there. And then repeat on the other side. A long thin screwdriver is pretty good at unclogging the tubes. If you’re getting water in the footwells and from the sunroof/passenger light console this’ll sort it. I’ve had both issues and blocked drainage tubes are the cause of this - Renault Migrane-Owner as it says further down in this list of Q and As - Bilbo Burgler from Yorkshire
I have exactly the same problem, mine is caused by two water leaks where the rear windows meet the boot. I can’t see any water coming in but that’s where the condensation starts when it rains. I can’t see any water inside the car but the condensation is so bad I sometimes have to drive it with all the windows down so I can see where I’m going. Which isn’t much fun when it’s raining. Renault have been trying to fix the problem along with the other three leaks for over four years! I’m sorry it’s not much help - Suzanne Howey from England

Hi. My Renault Clio leaks a lot when the weather is bad - and recently the heater fan (as in the one that de-mists windows etc) packed up. I had this repaired a month ago, now it’s broken again... any ideas? Is it the water that leaks in corroding things? Thanks! Hi, it may be your engine mount rubber is weak. Open the bonnet and try to move the engine at the top from front to back, it should move a little but be quite stiff. Hi. We need to remove the small panel in the bulkhead of our Renault Trafic as we want our dogs to travel in the back and need the airflow and to know they are OK. It looks to be held in by gromits but they don’t match up on the opposite side. Can anyone advise? Thanks.
Answers
The panel is glued in, I used a Stanley knife to cut round it from the cargo side of the van, it takes a while going over it a few time but it will cut out. The grommets have nothing to do with it. I have taken it a stage further now and cut the bulkhead down to about a third of its hight so we now have light in the back of the van - Tommy Bassett from England
I removed mine recently for the same reason, but replaced it with a sheet of clear Perspex to keep an eye on my black lab. I don’t know why the grommets are there because it’s actually held in solely by mastic. You need a strong long bladed extendable type DIY knife and a pair of decent leather gloves. Stand in the back of van with a bagful of energy and with care, cut the mastic bead and the panel will just pop out. Good luck - Simon from Lincolnshire

When driving my Renault Clio, I stopped to turn right but my car struggled to move. I managed to get round the corner and the ABS light came on and I could not move the car at all. After several attempts I managed to get my car home. My husband then took the car out and nothing was wrong. The day after I drove the car to work and it felt like the car was being pulled back and it was making a really loud popping noise and I was struggling to pick up speed. When I eventually got to my destination I struggled to pull the handbrake up. Any suggestions what could be wrong?
Answers
There could be a few faults. 1) your brakes may be seized on, 2) you might have ran out of brake fluid, 3) the brakes may have rusted and stuck, 4) the abs could be stuck on, 5) the handbrake may be stuck on as it uses a separate barrel than the foot brake. Hope this helps - Scott from Lanarkshire

I have just bought a Renault Megane coupe GT line. Brilliant car but in the dull November day light I am struggling to read the speedo. The speedo background is a dull grey and the pointer is dull read, but is like looking in to a black hole. Yesterday was bright sunshine and with sunglasses on it is impossible to see the speedo without taking the glasses off. Is this a known problem?

The wife went to use the Renault Scenic with her keycard and struggled to unlock it. The car unlocked and as she got in none of the electrics worked and she was unable start the car or to lock. I went down to have a look and removed the battery cover and wiggled the wires and the electrics come back on and I can now start the car but now my window is stuttering 3 inches at a time opening and closing. I have no clue about cars and the car is still under warranty. Is this a known problem and how serious could it be? Thanks.

The windows do that after the battery has been disconected. To reset them, send the windows all the way down & hold the switch till you hear a click. Then they have been reset and will work as they should - Adam Fletcher from Derbyshire
Be careful of your key as they can cause heartache. I also have a Scenic and my one and only key will not open the car and would not start the car without assistance. A knife stuck down the side of the key after it was inserted, gave the MoT chap something to smile at! If you find you cannot start the car, try wiggling the key and then slidding a knife down the side. I am having problems with my car. On occasion, when it refuses to start, all the electrics are lit up, but nothing happens. If we roll it with the handbrake off and in gear and pump the gas and turn the ignition it jumps into life. I have had it at the mechanics and had the starter motor checked and cleaned and they said there was no problem!!! But it has just happened again. When it happens a round red light comes up on the dashboard. Many thanks in advance.

How can I reset my airbags on my Renault Laguna? I have the warning lights on the dash. Or is there a common fault?
Answers
Sometimes the wires or the plug under the two front seats for airbag system comes loose, if switch under passenger or drivers seat is not locked in properly, then lock back in and put insulation tape round it. You need to find out which side the problem is on, take either seat out, 4 bolts size 16mm socket underneath car. Two near sill, other two directly across from outer two under a black rubber bung. But make sure battery is disconnected for 20 mins before touching switches! When done, connect battery and put ignition on and hopefully airbag light goes out,if not, then needs going on computer find what problem is, switches is common fault on Renaults, moving seats back and forward on runners does this! I have a 2 litre turbo auto. Renault quote exaggerated figures. Look at the gov mpg on the road tax web site. It is given as 19-ish for cold urban. In winter, it gets worse. My vehicle had very low miles when I got it. The owner lived in inner London, so I guess he got your mpg. On motorways at constant 65mph I can get 32mpg. I had the car checked at a Renault dealer. No problem reported. They reset trip and drove it down a dual carriageway and returned the car with mpg figures of 26 mpg. Very expensive error. Hi, it’s five years or I think 72,000 mls whichever comes first, and if yours is a 2004 it’s well overdue, or it has been done by a previous owner, check your service book or any receipts you may have. If there is no evidence of it being done in your service book, try calling the garages that have done work on the car, they are usually pretty good if you give them the reg. failing that some garages put a sticker somewhere under the bonnet indicating that it has been done or others mark with a black felt pen with the date it was done, I’d have a good look first as you can save yourself a small fortune if you find evidence of it being done, I hope this is of some help to you. It may well be the seat belt tensioner cables under the seat of the car. Look under your passenger seat and look for cables joined by a connector. These can come dislodged with the seat movement. Push them together and if you have any electric tape handy then wrap it round the connector. When I’m driving my Renault Clio the lights start flashing and my indicators and wipers stop working. Also, it can happen anytime. There is a clicking noise when the problem happens. An auto electrician has looked at the ECU and found no fault - it is really dangerous when this happens, both to myself and other road users as my car has auto lights on it. (1.5 dci billabong)
Answers
My husband had exactly the same got an Auto Electrician to check any loose wires (earth etc), but he could not find anything wrong. After much research online, we decided to get the UCH replaced. It cost £400 total and it has worked! No problems since. As you say, it’s very dangerous, the Renault garage wanted to do a diagnostic test, but last time we had one of those done, they could not find anything wrong and I didn’t want to pay out £83 for them to say they can’t find anything wrong again. That’s the problem when it’s intermittent, so we decided to go ahead and have the unit fitted. I would almost guarantee it will work for you, we also have a 03 Clio. Well it could be a number of things mate from a leak in the radiator or one of the related pipes right through to it being the head gasket. Have you noticed any white smoke coming out of the exhaust? Your water can evaporate as steam through the exhaust the head gasket being the main suspect of that symptom or if you can see any water underneath when parked up, it could be a leak in the pipes or radiator. Hi, we own a Renault Trafic van, 57 plate, with a tiptronic gearbox. The van went wrong 3 weeks ago and I took it to local Renault dealer - the computer controlled gearbox controller had gone because the casing around it, which is made of aluminium, has coroded. Renault want £2000+ VAT to fix because they are saying we will have to get a whole new gearbox as the part does not come as a seperate unit. The van is 4 years old and has done 88,000 miles. After to speaking to Renault direct they are saying that it shouldn’t have happened for the age and mileage of vehicle but can’t explain why it has. I was just wondering if this has happened to anyone else and if anyone knows of any faults with this problem. Regards.

My car won’t start, just says key card not detected. It locks and unlocks so not the battery in the key. Anyone have an idea, what it could be?
Answers
I had the same problem only two weeks ago, it turned out I needed a starter motor - Dwayne Morris from England
It’s the immobiliser chip in your key card, the car’s not reading it for some reason so won’t start. Have you lost the little insert (traditional key)? - John Geraghty from Ireland
We have this with one of our two keys - intermittent fault at first (then worked one way round, but not the other) permanent now both ways - though like yours still does the doors. It’s the key itself apparently. Suppose if one works, the other doesn’t, must be. Renault says they are £180 (isn’t that lovely and reasonable for a piece of plastic) so for the moment are making do with one key. You also need all your DVLA docs etc to get one, ID etc - so hassle and money. Great. Typical Renault. Never again. Our car is same as yours - 05 plate Grand Scenic - Jeremy Woods from Cambridgeshire

Hi, I filled up my van with petrol instead of diesel (only 7 litres). Does anyone know how to drain the fuel tank?
Answers
Top tank up with diesel and you will have not a problem, 90 litres of diesel and 7 litres of petrol is not a problem, you need not to empty the tank - Harold Von Rappard from Australia
Don’t bother draining it. Just keep topping up as you empty the tank, say every time you get to the 3/4 - 1/2 full mark, this will dilute it even more. In my experience, at this level of contamination, you will be very unlucky to have done any damage. I had a diesel Passat once that actually ran smoother with about 5ltr of petrol to a tankful of diesel, that engine is still running beautifully now 40,000 miles later at 170k - Steve from England

I have a 2007, bought from new, Renault Trafic van which decided to have a major fuel injector problem within a week of the warranty running out. After some research I did, the van clearly has a design fault in that water gets under the canopy into the injectors. After a while, it gradually welds and corrodes the injectors to the bulkhead. I am looking at up to a £5,000 bill to try to fix the problem. Surely this is a design fault and as a result the responsibility of the manufacturer to repair. Advice please?
Answers
Can’t help with your problem other than to say I have exactly the same. Renault dealer has managed to snap one injector off leaving the rest in the engine! Have you taken this up with Renault uk? I intend to do as you state, this is clearly a design fault and has almost written my van off(something I wasn’t told when I bought the van). I think Renault should take some responsibillity for this - Bryan Tomes from Buckinghamshire
I have also had the same problem. The van has 24,000 miles on the clock and has broken down three times in the last 1,000 miles with loss of power injector problems. I am currently having a new cylinder head fitted and would not touch another Renault with a barge pole - Roger Boulton from England

My son has put something in my ignition barrel now I can’t put the key in. Anyone know how to remove the ignition barrel?
Answers
Hmmm I love kids don’t you? Well it ain’t that hard if you have a key as you can access the bolt release from the barrel holder in the steering rack. This is done by removing the small torgue screw from the top, inserting the key, and turning it to position one or two and pushing the pins in you can then remove the barrel. That won’t help you and also I may have some bad news, the barrel is a sealed unit on most models. What my mate did was drastic but simple. Get a grinder, go to your local scrapy, cut off the barrel housing on the same year Renault (any will do, they’re all the same), order yourself a new key and barrel (with ignition lume) also door barrels to cut the barrel housing on your car, weld the scrapy one on and replace all your locks. PS. You will need to reprogram the immobiliser. In short, stop your kids’ pocket money for life - Jay from England

The car sometimes does not start on the first turn of the engine key. Most of the time, it does start fine. It is not the battery because when it does not start, the engine is turning normally. But recently and more and more frequently, it has taken two, three, up to five times to start. After such episodes (more than three trials), the check engine light comes up with "anti-pollution to be controlled". This warning goes out after I start normally about a dozen times. Cold, hot weather/engine does not seem to make a difference. Any idea?

I had same problem, I phoned one Renault garage that told me it would be £500 to fix. Just purchased a 2003 Megane 2.0 Convertible and am occasionally getting the message ’check injection’ along with the service light. And when this happens, it is very jerky when pulling away in first gear. UPDATE: took it back to the guy I bought it from (still in the 28 day warranty). Drove 60 miles to his garage, and it never came up with the problem. He put it on a computer, cleared the codes and we went for a run in it, and then he plugged it back in,and it showed no faults. Drove 60 miles home,no problem. Two weeks later, I have got the toxic fume light and service light on constantly and yesterday the check ignition light is back on,along with kangaroo performance in first and second. Can anyone help? Was wondering, I have RAC recovery, will they come out and fix it?

My most recent problem has got everyone baffled, the lights just randomly came on and stayed on and the battery ran down so recharged battery everything seemed fine took it to work the next day but when it came to going home I couldn’t unlock the car, called the AA who tried starting the car but there was no battery power again. It started up again straight away but would do this quite a few times. I was told to change the glow plugs which had no effect. Then I was told this could be a bad batch of fuel (I had fueled up that morning). After using up the fuel, I filled up again and it seemed to get better. This hasn’t caused a problem till today when after I had fuelled up, the problems have come back. Could it be bad batches of fuel or is it something else that is causing the problems I am having?

I left my 1.9dci Trafic for some 3 years without starting. Previously it started perfectly. Mileage is 66,000 and well looked after. I just put a new battery in and it will not start, even with easystart. The engine just cranks very slowly. I get about 3 good slow cranks before I have to recharge the battery. I took the battery back to the shop and it was OK and correct amps. I’ve tried jump leads to the starter, boost pack, 2 batteries, but it cranks just as slowly. Could the timing belt have slipped due to cold weather freezing water pump? Faulty starter, but starting in gear and the van moves forward. Glow plugs sucking power. Engine or other component seized? Or is there some other part in the starting system I haven’t considered? (1.9dci)

My S reg Renault Scenic lost power today. I left it for about ten minutes and tried to start it again. I had power for a few minutes then I noticed that the dash lights for the battery stayed on with also the abs lights and the airbags, then it lost all power again. Please could you tell me if it is because I need a new battery or whether it is a different problem all together?

Hello, we had this problem a few months ago. My Megane always ran smoothly with no indicator lights stayed on. But suddenly one morning I just couldn’t start the engine... Tried again a few minutes later and it also lost power again. First thing we tried was recharging the battery... and... the engine started and stayed on... So we recharge it for half an hour until I have time the next day to have it checked at the service center - Mira Hariyono from Indonesia

Hi. I’ve had the same problem. The sunroof drainage tubes which outlet behind the wheel arch covers are blocked, it’s a common fault. Just remove the wheel, remove the arch cover and you should see your problem - a blocked drainage tube which may be caked up in muck but it’s there. A long thin screwdriver is good for clearing the blocked tube. Do both sides of the car and you should be fine. Also, if you have water coming from the sunroof console it’s the same drainage tubes causing the problem - Renault Migrane Owner from England

In 05 I bought a 1.9 dci. 2 years no probs till it started cutting out while driving along. It would restart a bit rough and then clear and drive perfect until it done it again. Then it cut out and wouldn’t start at all. Towed to a garage, injector failed, had it replaced - went and picked it up, got half a mile down the road and it died again. Towed backed to the garage, another injector gone, had that one done and it started. Next day it wouldn’t start again, another injector gone, had that one done, picked up the van and it was fine all the way home. Went to work the next day and it died again but started after a while. A day later it died altogether. Back to the garage, computer showed no faults, they checked ecu wires and volt readings to ecu, all fine... still wouldn’t start, unpluged the ecu to do more checks, plugged it back in and it started. Garage man kept the van for two days, drove it for the two days, no probs. Picked the van up, got half way home and it died again, but it did restart and was fine again. Two days later, drove it a mile down the road, it died and wouldn’t start at all. It turns over and starts to fire and stops firing but still spins over. Turn the ignition off and try again and it does the same. When you’re driving it and it dies it is as though there is no diesel getting to the injectors. PLEASE CAN ANYONE HRLP ME WITH THIS PILE OF JUNK? (1.9 dci)

About a month ago this car failed to start; it was in my garage. The excellent folk that maintain it had no suggestion to make. I spent the weekend of poking around - during which I pushed the red reset button which seems to be part of a safety system, though it did not seem to need it, and made no difference anyway. After removing one of the coils for checking - it was ok - the car started and has run well ever since - until now, that is, when once again it is as dead as a dodo. Hi, can anybody give me some feedback on this second hand motor that we picked up about 2 weeks ago? We went on holiday for 6 days and when we got back we found the front passenger side wet through. We first thought that a widow was left open but no, the water, on lifting the carpet and rubber had a pool over an inch thick and the wetness had extended back into the rear seat section? The Renault Megane Coupe has large bays under the bonnet and I think these fill up with water that isn’t properly evacuating from and out at the sides, so maybe the seals under this bay have been breeched? Anybody have any clues? Is it repairable through applying some kind of waterproof coating inside this bay? Many thanks, Liam. (16V MIRAGE)

I had this problem with another type of car - mine was the sun roof although it appeared fully closed and showed no sign of leaking it traveled along the inside of the waterproof cealing liner and found its way into the passenger well - Frank Edgar from Lancashire
The sunroof drainage pipes are behind the front wheel arches, you need to remove the wheel and the arch cover to gain access. They will be blocked and caked in all sorts. Do both sides. I had the same problem water from the sunroof console and last year 4" puddles in passenger footwell. This will fix water coming in from sunroof console and the water in the footwell. Do both sides - Renault Migrane Owner from England
I have been finding the car wet on the inside as well (mine is a 53 reg estate). I could hear all sorts of slushing sounds and eventually some water drip above the pedal area. What I have found is that there is a sort of drain pipe that runs from the plastic trim at the base of the windscreen to a point below the car. You can see from the engine side, and it is a soft black pipe about 20mm diameter. I unblocked it by adding water to it by splashing the windscreen, and squeezing repeatedly. Eventually it unblocked and flushed through - Edoardo from Nottinghamshire

My van was just a month out of warranty when an injector went and they had to replace the cylinder head. I just got it back from the Renault garage and the alternator needs replacing. I see I now have an oil leak and I’m wondering if when they took the engine out to replace the cylinder head? They didn’t replace two of the engine mount screws and another was slack. Has this contributed to the alternator going and the oil leak?
Answers
Was it the left hand engine mount screws rather than the engine mount on the gearbox side? If so then yes - you have to remove the big alloy plate to get the head off. Did they cause the oil leak? Depends where its coming from. Weeping from the head - yes. Weeping from the cam cover - yes. Anywhere else - probably not. Has it all contributed to the alternator failing? Probably not unless the warning lights were on the dash when you pulled away from the garage, in which case I would have reversed it back to them :) My van was parked for 3 days and on next starting the warning lights popped on. No warning signs at all, just died. Hope this helps - Peter B from Durham

I have the coupe cabriolet 1995. On several occasions I heard the faint sound of sloshing water. I have had problem of ingress of water soaking the floor and puddling behind front seats. Windscreen wiper motor failed and on removal of panels to access motor it was found to be lying in water which had drained from the windscreen and hadn’t drained away due to blockage in 2 drain tubes situated in the trough. The drain tubes cannot be seen or cleared without removal of panels. I have removed both of these drain tubes because it was impossible to clear them in situ and I have not replaced them. Since then the floor has remained dry - Frank Oxley from England
Thanks Frank and Nikii/ Our 56 plate CC has had some water leaking in around the clutch pedal for the last few weeks now. This results in a sloshing noise that may be heard in the cabin and around the dash area. After a car wash or heavy rain it enters the car in the driver footwell. I suspected the drain vents but was unsure and did not wish to start taking to bits if not the case. Off to do it now. Cheers - Tim Whitworth from Nottinghamshire
