My Peugeot Expert starts up fine when cold, but when it gets warm and when I turn the engine off it does not start up unless I bump it or get jump leads or wait for it to cool down. Can anyone suggest what the problem could be?

Answers

Hi. I have been having the same problem for the last three months. I have been to Peugeot dealer, they did not have a clue. I visited nearly 4 garages, still could not find out the problem. But finally I found the garage called Albyn Motors in Deptford who had a proper Peugeot diagnostic, he said you have air problem but fuel pump is working fine, suggested I change the fuel filter first. We did, but air still visible in the hose. I am going back this week to see him, but if the problem is not sorted, then the best solution is to buy a new fuel compartment because the engine is sucking air from somewhere in the fuel compartment. Hope this helps - Youssef Asbi from London

I had the same problem 6 months ago. Had engine diagnosed: 2 injectors weak. Had new injectors put in and it has been fine ever since. Same van, same year - Dave Head from England

If until now you did not change the injectors, which are very expensive, there is a very cheap way to solve your problem, and that you add brake fluid (about 1/3 of a quart) to diesel tank after you fill it up, then drive your car, and you will find improvement. I advise you and all who read this to add brake fluid once a month and you will never have injector and injection pump problems - Choukri Kayal from France

I bit the bullet and took it to a garage with diagnostic kit. First they said it was the immobiliser so they isolated that. Then it still wasn’t fixed and they said it was an injector so they replaced that. Now it’s fine but my bank account is drastically depleted. Sadly the reply above didn’t come in time or my usual garage guy could have replaced all the injectors for less than I paid. The delights of motoring eh! Douglas Dickinson from Powys

Hi. I have a Peugeot Expert combi 110 bhp window van. Every now and again, it just stops when driving, engine management light comes on and it takes about 4/5 pre start key turns to refill the filter with fuel (you can hear the bubbles going back to the tank). Eventually it starts, runs with yellow MG light. Next day it clears, refuses to go on full power. Is the tank fuel pump supposed to keep running after the engine starts? Hello. I have a problem with my Peugeot Expert taxi. When I speed up little bit and then if I put my foot on gas a vibrating, rattling noise comes from under the car. So far the mechanics have failed to find an actual fault. Can any one with similar experience help? That would be great, thanks.

Answers

My cab had the same symptoms at between 50-70 mph. Check the valves in the Cam. Mechanics tried various fixes but nothing worked. Finally my engine dropped a valve at 205,000 miles, I’ve just had to have a new engine fitted. There is a place in Birmingham that fits re-tuned engines. Hi mate, I had a very similar problem with mine but the clock, radio and interior light stopped working the five amp fuse kept blowing (no 6). Apparently it’s a common fault on these vans. There is rain water leaking into the nearside cab of my Peugeot Expert, from behind glove box. Has anyone else experienced this and can advise me as to what to do?

Answers

If you open the bonnet and look at each end where the suspension mounts are, there are two tubes one at each side of the van. The gully from where rain travels from of windscreen, check the tubes are clean and free of leaves and dirt and not touching the sound proofing at back of engine - Deano ’Does It’ Newman from Gloucestershire

You’ll probably find its the windscreen needs resealing, probably best to get done straight away as can get into the electrical unit (bsi). Regards - Ben Holden from England

I had this problem also, if the rubber drains are clear the problem lies behind the plate in which the wipper arms are, so you have to take the arms off (which can be difficult, WD40!) take plate off then you should see the problem, mine was full of twigs and leaves. Never had the problem again - Alan Leah from Staffordshire

On the plastic panel that the wipers are mounted on you will find three removable grilles. Gently push the tabs towards the windscreen and lift the grilles off. Behind the grilles on both the driver and passenger side you will find what could be described as a reservoir which should have a drain hole which can easily get blocked by dirt. On the passenger side this reservoir leads through to the fan. If the drain hole is blocked water can overflow into the fan assembly and through into the cab. All you need is a long thin object (stick, screwdriver or in my case a wiper blade that I had just replaced) and poke the dirt out to allow the water to drain. Simples. How much does it cost to replace the 4th gear synchro on a Peugeot Expert?

Answers

If I am not mistaken, this is a common fault on this year of van what I would do it get one from a scrap yard then you will have parts of it goes on a different gear as from scrap yard should get one for about £30-ish. If live in Gloucester, try Harry Bucklands as if you try Twigworth, you will be looking about £90 plus vat - Deano ’Does It’ Newman from England

I have a problem with power not getting to the starter motor on my Expert Van. The van starts perfectly when I user a jumper wire to the solenoid. From researching the internet it would appear I may have a problem with the starter relay, please can anyone let me know where to locate this relay? I have tested all the relays from the fuse box under the bonnet (none are identifiable!) and they all appear to be functioning! Or, if anyone has any other ideas what may be causing the problem I would be please to hear them! Many thanks. (2.0 hdi)

Answers

Have you tried looking at the big black relay screwed to the front of the ECU? Try the multimeter on the outputs, or be brave, consider it’s old enough to have gone naff and buy a new one. Serves as relay to a number of ’ignition’ controlled services like a VW T4 - Roger from Worcestershire

Hi I believe there are some relays below the glove box easier to take the glove box out but I would say it’s the starter as sounds like the solenoid - Deano ’Does It’ Newman from England

My Peugeot Expert’s engine rattles violently when cold, like it’s getting no oil, and then it runs fine when its warm. Any clues as to why it is doing this?

Answers

Could be anything. When was the last oil change? One is recommended every 3,000 miles could be sticky rings. What I would do is get some seafoam from Ebay, put half of fuel tank and half in oil, run for about 100 miles then do an oil change. Seafoam is expensive for what you get but you only get what you pay for. Have a look at Seafoam on Youtube, the americans swear buy it - Deano ’Does It’ Newman from Gloucestershire

Hi, I was wondering if anyone can help me? My Peugeot Expert van has failed its MOT on emissions as it was pouring out black smoke at high revs. I got it home and have changed the air filter diesel fuel filter. There was a pipe off the egr valve that I have replaced. I have checked for air leaks in the air system - there were a few - now sorted. And I put some cleaner in the fuel filter but now I get white smoke, then black smoke and the idle is a little up and down. I did do one step at a time and was checking engine at each stage. The smoke is not as bad but it is still there but now white then black with idle problems. This van is a 1.9td version. Can anyone help?

Hello all, I’ve got a 2000 W-reg Peugeot Expert and when it rains water rushes down the back of where you feet are. I think it’s coming in through the air ducts under the wind screen ? Has anyone else had a problem?

Answers

I have had this problem and what I done was follow the airduct under the windows wipers and at each end, there are pipes for water to run free. Mine was blocked at one end and the other was not out in open as water was running. It was hitting sound proofing behind the engine so cleaned one out and repositioned the others are all good. Hope this helps, one pipe is behind battery and the other in wheel arch - Deano does it from England

How do I bleed the clutch?

Answers

Hello, it’s the same as bleeding brakes. Access to the slave cylinder is restricted so remove the airbox to make access easier, either use a proper bleeding kit for doing it on your own or using a helper. Whilst they push the clutch pedal down, turn and open the bleed nipple just enough to allow fluid out under pressure and then tighten said bleed nipple up again before the pedal hit the floor. This is to ensure that no air is sucked back into the system when the pedal is released. Repeat this process until clean fresh fluid is ejected from the nipple and the pedal feels firm. Remember to keep topping up the reservoir with fluid because if you don’t, you’re pretty much wasting your time! Hope this helps - Richard from England

I want to check: on the door upright is there a plastic "socket" which the top catch goes into as this catch looks to be wearing away, metal on metal. Can someone check: is there something missing from my door pillar? And if so where can I get replacements?

Answers

Hi there mate, I have the same problem with my expert. You need to change bottom door sliders as they tend to sag after time. This should solve your problem - Tom McCready from County Antrim

Hi mate, mine was the same, all you need to do is get a good pair of pliers and bend the metal bit on the door back to the right position, this should be easy as it’s screwed into the thin panel, then check to see that the hard plastic gromit is in place on the panel behind the bulkhead then line them up slowly when shutting the door and viola, job done.
