I have a 2005 reg Peugeot 407 2.0 Hdi SE Luxury pack SW. The climate button does not respond. The fans blow but you can`t see on the display where they are blowing or at what temperature. All of the other buttons work fine, it`s just the climate button that does not respond. The fans and heaters themselves work and the display works for everything else. Please can anyone help me? My Peugeot 407 is oozing oil/lubricant from the cap of the power steering unit. The Peugeot dealers diagnosed a faulty steering rack at an exorbitant cost. I had the job done at the local garage at one third of the price. However, there is still lubricant oozing from the top of the unit and the steering is not as light as it should be and on occasions becomes heavy. My mechanic is baffled, but someone else advised to check a two way valve leading from the power steering unit to rack which may be faulty. Any advice please?

I have replaced the engine and turbo in 407 HDI (I used a fuel pump and injectors from my old engine) and am thinking about them being coded. I am having trouble starting it, fuel is being dispensed and it is trying to fire but it’s as if something is telling the engine not to start. Can anyone help point me in the right direction?

Hi, since I bought my Peugeot 407, every now and then the fan starts up, I guess to cool the engine. But then, even after switching off engine the fan keeps going for even about 8 minutes (sometimes makes me blush). I have always been told that this is normal, but I can never believe that. What is your opinion? Thanks. (1.6 HDi)

Answers

It is in fact quite normal for a fan to run after engine has stopped, it will run for as long as it takes to cool the engine to a predefined temp. 8 mins does seem excessive, but if you live in a hot climate this could be the reason why. Nothing to worry about, honest. However if it does it on a really cool day there may be a problem, but I suspect not - Steve M from Neath Port Talbot

My Peugeot 407 starts then drives good but then it dies and won’t start again. I did put new batteries in the keys and we did reset the car. We found a sabertek near the computer with a loose cable - can it be the problem? When the car starts it drives good, engine sounds good and then it dies. or when you turn the car off it wont start. Answer this question

Rashid Peersaib, Mauritius

Peugeot 407 2005

The air conditioning blower fan of my Peugeot 407 doesn’t work when the knob switch is turned on. The motor itself works when direct dc12v is applied to it. I suspect the small electronic circuit, mounted on it to be faulty. What to do?

Answers

Hi, it’s me, Rashid! Infact the problem was a faulty relay doing the switching. It is found in the engine compartment behind the battery. In the fuse box. It is found under the first block with fuses; a bolt of 12mm holding a +12volts thick cable. Which must be unscrewed then that fuse block can be removed. Unfortunately those relays found ther are all moulded in glue. So impossible to replace it but What I did is that I bypassed that supply by cutting its cable at the plug going to the blower fan and another +12volts supply wire was taken from the fuse bus bar found in the fuse block in the glove box. Taken from a 40 amps fuse. Another mini toggle switch was installed supplying a new 35amps relay which now does the switching of the blower fan. Whilst the variable speed controller knob was still in service. That’s it. And I sweat for that. And I kept the 2nd hand blower fan I ordered from London - Rashid peersaib from england

The climate control seems to only be working properly on the passengers side. On auto settings hot air is coming from the passenger side and cool from the drivers. This is also the case when I set it manually to max for both sides. Are there separate heaters for each side or separate fuses? Or is this a bigger problem?

Answers

I had the same problem with my 57 plate 407 sport when I had it 18 months ago. It was still under guarantee. Robins and day in Glasgow had to fit a "heater repair kit". Not an expensive part but they said it was two days labour as the whole dash has to come out to fit the part. Hopefully a simple question for any Peugeot enthusiast! I want to drain down part of my coolant system to replenish my antifreeze. How do I do it without the possibility of causing an airlock?

Answers

Peugeot came up with an awesome idea to not do exactly what you don’t want to happen. 1) put in new antifreeze 2) start the car 3) open the air release valve (I think all cars should come with this makes life so much easier). It’s located behind the engine block, you can see it if you stand right in front of the car and lean in to the bonnet. It looks like little knob on a rubber pipe. Unscrew and keep pouring more water and antifreeze until you only see the solution coming out and no air! 4) close air release valve - Anton Pug from South Africa

I have a problem with oil leaks. I have been 3 times to east rand Peugeot dealer in Boxkburg and it seems they don’t know what is happening, they have been experimenting on my car putting parts a.t.c and taking them out. Yesterday for example, they phone me for autorising new prising for cylinder head gaskets. Why such a big job and how come now? Then they come up with story that is done and it was just some sensor seal and is done. They washed and gave me back, then I took it for a good drive. It warmed nicely but just the same old story, the car still leaks terribly and when gets hot, smells of burning oil and smokes around the front of the car smoke comes from the radiator area, and the badge. Looks like fog when I stop at traffic lights at night. Any information for proper diagnoses? I don’t know where else I can go but Peugeot dealers. This is going crazy and I am losing the trust. petkovsasha@hotmail.com or petkovsasha@gmail.com

I started with looking at the fan as it seemed to have stopped hence engine temp into red and stop light coming on after maybe 20 min drive. Having tried to override fan relays with no luck and checking fuses and relays, on connecting tester to negative side of battery, which required loosening, the alarm was set off. After turning this off, the car would no longer start and hasn’t done since (three days now), please help as am desperate to get it running again and have tried numerous ideas to no avail, thanks.

Answers

Try the following. There is a factory fuse that can reset all settings to default. It’s a grey fuse located in the cubby fuse box. 1) disconnect the fuse 2) unplug the battery 3) reconnect the fuse 4) plug the battery back in but be careful as to remember the grey fuse position it can go in two ways one user mode 2 factory mode do not connect battery with factory mode on! Press the zero in 407 on the boot lid. You must also have selected ’deactivate permanent boot locking’ on your console menu - Reuben Alldridge from England

From the INSIDE I’m not sure you can, but as mentioned the 0 in 407 is the button on the outside - Steve M from Neath Port Talbot

Sounds like the wires are damaged. Gain access through rear seats, remove boot lid cover to locate damaged wire then remove boot’s passenger side panel locate damaged wire run a spare piece of wire between damaged wire to make conection and you should be able to open boot. You should then make a more permanent repair. This is common fault, good luck - Terry from Cardiff

Hi. Yes, it’s the front or rear abs sensors. Only by having them tested at Peugeot can you find out which, they are about £35 each but lookout if it’s the rear because it means dropping the fuel tank! They will say that if this is the case then get them both done. About half an hour for the front ones so about £70, but rear about half a day and £130-£140. Good Luck! Mike Trivett from England
