We have owned our 407 Estate since 2008 and it has always been temperamental with regards to electrics but recently things gave got worse. When driving the car seems to shudder and lose power, as it's an automatic gearbox you can hear the gearbox change sound, at the same time warning messages come on the screen like faulty gearbox, de pollution system faulty, eps faulty. Today I couldn't get the heater to work, one light on the dashboard for the rear heater stayed on but the heater wasn't working. What I usually do when any of these faults appear is switch off the engine and when I turn the engine back on things return to normal again. Can anyone tell me what may be wrong as I had to stop and turn the engine off five times today.

Hi. I noticed that when I open the passenger door the window doesn't drop a little and even the interior lights or alarm are not sensing it open or shut. Is there a sensor that could be faulty somewhere in the door itself or a door frame? It's a bit annoying having to lower the window when someone is getting out of the car.

Hi when starting the engine, an engine fault apears in the screen and when trying to press the acceleration pedal, the engine doesn't accelerate. after sutting down the engine and restarting several times the problem stops. my mechanics connected with his universal computer and all the codes point out on some sorts of communication problem between the main computer and other xomputers in the car. The engine model is RFJ I will appreciate any addvice Thanks

Hi I experienced the same problem with my 2007 V6 407. The problem was dealt with under warranty and was to do with a switching device linked (somehow) to the throttle fly by wire technology. This is evidently a problem found in similar vintage Hyundai Sonata's which I was lead to understand use the same switch. Once fixed I had no further problems. Hope this helps Cheers from NZ Neil Attwood from New Zealand

I have a 407sw diesel on a 56 plate. It has just clocked up 107000 miles. I like this car but i have juat recently had the particulant fluid level light start to come on which i was quoted £171 to replace and reset. The aircon pump has also recently packed up so doesnt cool down sufficiently. And to top it of when driving at a slower speed it start to what feels like splutter or miss a beat until you accelerate. But if i accelerate to hard it feels like it will die if i dont release the throttle. I wish to give it a service but i am wondering if i will be needing to spend too much on it. Could i be lucky and just replace some glow plugs and filters? I don't really want to have to replace the car yet unless i have too. Also how long is it adviseable to drive the car before the particulant fluid has to be replaced in case of damage? Thanks

When we should change timing belt?

Answers

You should change every 60,000 miles but between this 60,000 miles you should take it to the garage to check if the belt is good because sometimes the belt can start to crack and if the belt gets broken then you damage the engine. Andris from Ireland

I have had a valve stem break (electronic monitoring system) when removing a punctured rear tyre, so now the dash is just reading STOP with the spare (normal valve)fitted. I have purchased a repair kit for the valve stem which the local company will put in when they put on a new tyre for me tomorrow, but the Peugeot agent has told me that IF it works then the computer will have to be reset (by a Peugeot agent). Is this correct or is there a more simple answer? The Peugeot agent also told me that it is impossible to repair the wheel valve and that I should be having a complete new unit fitted to the wheel. They have quoted me a rough figure of £100 for the valva plus fitting £30 and resetting the electronics at about £40+. When I said that it sounds like a lot of money they suggested that I have all the wheel valves replaced with normal rubber ones and do away with the dash monitoring / warning system. Can anyone help?

Answers

I had this issue with my last 407 (55 plate saloon), where the car alerted me to low tyre pressure, so I attached the pump and the stem snapped off. I purchased replacement stem from eBay for about £15, and a local independent garage fitted it for £10. No need to reset the sensor as it remains the same. I then did the same with the remaining tyre valves. It happens because the stems are aluminium and corrode/weaken over time, especial if you have lost the caps. If an actual sensor breaks then you do need to get the cars computer resynced to the new sensor. The same independent garage sourced me one for about £70 fitted and the sensor resynced. If you can't get a garage to sync a new sensor there are loads of people with the Peugeot software whom can do it for the price of a coffee. Davr from West Sussex

Last week I heard a griding noise from my back hand side wheel, so I brought it to the garage to get the brakes done but it is still griding, the mechanic said its normal couse it's new brake pads and the noise will ware off, is that true or what, I need to know because the griding is driving me mad. Thanks

Answers

Could be the wheel bearing making that noise, or where the brake disc is behind there`s around dust plate, could be that catching the brake disc, so you have to check that, but maybe try another garage if that mechanic doesn`t know that. Andris from Ireland

Or could be faulty brake pads. Check all that and you`ve definitely found the problem. Andris from Ireland

Hi. What type of steering fluid do i need for my 407

Answers

It is called "Fluide DA" and is fully synthetic power steering oil. I think you will have to get it from a Peugeot or Citroen dealer as I did for a top up. I cannot remember the price but seem to remember that a litre bottle cost me less than 20 euro I do not know how you can bleed the system but suspect that you can just run the engine and hence the pump. Perhaps one of the experts can confirm this and advise on how much fluid you need if your leak has lost you all of the original. Good luck with the problem. Andris from Ireland

Hi, I have a Peugeot hdi estate on a 2000 plate. I've had the car now for 2 years just to take my youngest to school and back. Recently I lent my car to my partner and the engine management light has come on, never had an issue before other than having to turn the air con switch off every time I start the car as it flashes "engine too hot", even when it's stone cold! I'm trying to find what temperature the fan should kick in too. I have a funny suspicion my fan is not working. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks in advance
