Hello. My Peugeot 407 was converted from right to left hand drive. My problem is the a/c doesn’t blow enough air to cool the cabin even at maximum on hot days. My mechanic told me it`s because of the conversion but I would like to seek a second opinion before jumping to this conclusion. Any ideas?

Hi. my Peugeot 407`s windows keep steaming up when the outside temperature goes below about 3 degrees. I have tried fiddling with all the controls but it doesn’t help. It is not a problem in the summer. Anyone help? (xline)
I had the same problem with my 207, I have been told the condenser does not work below 3 degrees. See if you can hear it click in when you press the ac button when it is above 3/4 degrees. you will hear a definite click and see the rev counter drop slightly. If it does then there is no problem. They do this to protect them in cold weather. - Aoife Bartle from Yorkshire

My Peugeot 407`s stop light comes up while driving but I managed to drive home (about 5km). Now it refuses to start after switching the engine off. What should I do?
If you mean the STOP light on the instrument panel, then you MUST take it to a dealer as there is a major fault somewhere, that’s why car won’t start now. - Steve M from Neath Port Talbot

My Peugeot 407 shows me the esp/asr whenever I start the car. What do I replace to overcome the problem?
My ESP/ABS warning lights kept coming on, an MOT fail. The sensors needed changing. If it is the front two not too bad, it will still cost a few hundred to have them replaced. But if it is the rear two, then the whole back end of the car has to virtually come off, with lots of cash needed for this. However, I had mine replaced at a dealer and the warning still comes on now and then, particularly in wet weather. - Steve M from Neath Port Talbot
They don’t cost a few hundred quid and the whole. Rear of the car doesn’t have to come off lol... u need to lower the fuel tank to feed a cable around it, that’s it... simple job front and rear a DIY’er could do - Ray from Cheshire

I have a Peugeot 407. Recently when I was driving on the freeway 100km/h it was okay but when I slowed down the car actually couldn`t drive and stopped. I turned the engine off and back on and was driving until the same happened again and now it doesn’t drive, it is in the garage and it is a big puzzle for mechanics. Any ideas please?

My Peugeot 407`s heater does not get hot on the driver`s side. What can I do?
There are 2 electric motors that work the shutters on the heater. The common fault is the spindle on one of these motors has broken. To get it fixed the cost can vary from £600 to £1750 depending on the garage you go to. The dash board has to be removed to do this. - Bill Homer from Staffordshire

Hi. I have a Peugeot 407 and today I had a problem with the driver`s window, it won`t close correctly. You need to press the window button many times to close it and each time it rises up with 7cm maybe. I have no problem with the other windows. Can anyone help?
Hi. This is similar to what I have on my 407 Passenger and passenger rear windows. I have been told that it is a solenoid issue. my rear window operates on the one touch up and down but when closing it it goes all the way up and then opens all the way down!! so you have to "Gamble" when closing it that you get it right :-) - Peter Evatt from Sussex
Same happened to my 407 Peugeot. Reset window by moving window down till it stopped kept the button held down for at about 4 seconds. Worked the window up in stages and did the same again holding the button up for about 4 seconds. It all works ok now. I think it reset window travel. - Tony Wilson from England

Hi. The speakers on my Peugeot 407 suddenly stopped working last week. There was a brief crackling sound and then nothing! The radio still comes on and I can select radio stations and play CDs, but there`s no sound. The integrated Bluetooth is also affected. While my phone will connect as normal, when making/receiving a call there is no sound but I can be heard on the other end. Is this a simple problem such as a blown fuse or something? Any help with this will be greatly appreciated - my commute to work is getting much longer in the silence! Cheers and thanks for reading. (1.6 HDi Solaire ST Comfort)

Hi all. My Peugeot 407`s back passenger lights have stopped working. I`ve replaced all the bulbs and obviously that’s not the problem, but what I have noticed is the connector block with the 5 cables going into has a black patch and the centre cable of the 5 have slightly blackened. Can I get one of those connector blocks and attempt to do this myself? Any help and knowledge would be appreciated.

Hello. First of all, I would like to thank you for your effort to answer questions. Secondly, I would like to ask about an issue that I have with my Peugeot 407 2007 model. I was driving the car when it suddenly stopped. I tried to restart the engine but with no success. I took the car to the dealer and they suspect that "the cylinder head valves stuck and locked the piston, so the timing belt and other connected parts are completely damaged". However, I am not quite sure if the problem can happen in this order or the timing belt gets damaged first and then causes other parts to be damaged. The timing belt was replaced by the dealer in July last year and the car has not done more than 20,000 kilometers since that. I am concerned that the dealer is trying to avoid responsibilities with regard to the timing belt, hence they are saying that the cause of the failure is something else which eventually caused the timing belt to get damaged. I would really appreciate a detailed description of the above scenario if it can happen as mentioned by the dealer. Can anyone advise me? Regards.
The dealer is trying to rip you off, take it to a few mechanics who offer free advice and see what they say. My guess is that the timing belt failed causing other damage. the dealer is trying to get out of it. Keep going, don’t let them get away with it. - Steve M from Neath Port Talbot
The belt would have to snap first for this to happen, they are trying to rip you off mate :( - Grant Jolly Happy from Kent

My Peugeot 407 had the wheel bearings changed on the back and since then it is using far too much fuel. I am spending almost £150 per week on diesel. I have just had it serviced but it`s still doing it. Can anyone suggest what I should do please? Many thanks. (diesel)
I very much doubt that it is the new wheel bearing causing the trouble, however, it could be damage to the fuel line by a careless mechanic. Try parking over some paper, or something that will show up any small drips and if there are any check to see if it is fuel. - Steve M from Neath Port Talbot

My Peugeot 407`s engine temperature was too high and the stop immediately message came on while driving normally. While slowing down the engine temperature that was in the red started coming down from the red. I came to a complete stop and could hear the fan running and the temperature was normal at around 71 deg celsius. The engine coolant was fine (it`s just come back from a service). This happens sometimes. Today the same happened but this time the temperature came back to around 90 deg celsius and stayed there. I drove like that until I got home. Please can anyone help me with this?
It’s your head gasket, it’s gone and it needs to be replaced before causing more damage. - Charles Masuku from South Africa.

Hi. My Peugeot 407`s right brake, indicator, stop and reverse back lights have all stopped working. I tried replacing the bulb but they all suddenly started working again after removing the cover. I coupled it again and they worked for few minutes and went dead again. Can anyone suggest what I should do to sort this problem please?
I had the same problem plus esp as warning too. I bought a new brake light switch as I spent days looking for answers and hey presto it’s fixed. You need someone to pass the brake pedal in while you replace it. I guarantee this will sort those annoying beeps. Any problems email me firstname.lastname@example.org - James Blackmore from England

My Peugeot 407 just cut out in the middle of the road and will not restart. All lights are working okay but the battery is running low from trying to restart it. I`m not sure if the oil light came on before failing. Any ideas?
If you still have the issue: close the car using the fob then wait for 5 min and try again to start it, if it works the issue is with the engine shaft sensor - Ridouan el from Buckinghamshire

What causes the gear handle in my 07 Peugeot 407 hdi to seize up during the cold weather? When running the car for about twenty minutes it then frees out. Any suggestions?
Possibly a lack of gearbox oil, as you drive the oil heats up slightly making it more fluid. I suggest topping up the gearbox oil - Steve M from Neath Port Talbot
This happened to me last winter. Gear cables have frozen in the cold weather and will not allow you to select any gear! Peugeot told me this is common and nothing they can do about it. IF it happens, start your car and leave for 20 mins to thaw out - then all will be fine! Daz M from Ireland

I was driving home two weeks ago and all of a sudden the headlamps started going dimmer and the dashboard was also going dim. At that moment the car was using the air conditioning as well. I started to realise when I pressed the horn no sound was coming out and then the car refused to start, though after a while it started so I was able to get to my house. Now my electrician told me the alternator is only half charging, which can`t carry the car and all it`s functions and the battery is dying. He also said the alternator can`t be repaired unless a new one is bought, but here in my country we always repair alternators when they are faulty. I used to repair the alternator on my former car if there was a problem and that car was a Toyota but this one is a Peugeot. Please can anyone help me out? Thanks.
Are you sure it is a 407? Peugeot didn’t start making them until 2004. I would think that the alternator could be repaired by a competent auto-electrician - Bill Dennis from Denbighshire

My Peugeot 407`s fan seems to be on as I’m driving and when I switch the engine off it stays on. The car will not start immediately, but when left for an hour will start again. Does anyone know what the problem is?
The engine fan only comes on when the engine reaches a predefined temperature, it will continue to run to cool the engine even when switched off, it may not start immediately because it is too hot. Add coolant, this should cure it - Steve M from Neath Port Talbot
Over heating, check water - Geoff Kingstone from Hampshire
My 407 ’s fan does not always come on like you described. Some days it behaves. It comes on when you do not expect it. Sometimes on slow speeds, and other times after faster speeds. I had the thermostat switch replaced as suggested by Peugeot, but it is still the same. I do not know what else to do - James Borg from Cambridgeshire
