Can I hieghten my suspension on my 308
Doubtful if you can heighten it, more common for people to lower the suspension suspension. You may find suitable suspension parts on off-road forums etc. Hugh from City of Glasgow

Car turns over and fires but won't start
If it turns over and fires it IS starting, if you mean it turns over and TRIES to fire but won't start that's different. Check the timing. Mick from Portugal

could someone please tell me what the SR stands for on my 2008 peugeot 308 and what extras are there on it compared to a standard model not even the local dealership can help.
The letters SR don't actually stand for anything, they just signify the equipment level within the range, below SR are Access, Urban, XE and XL. Above it are a further 15 equipment levels. If you want to see what each level offers the Parkers web site lists the various differences. Mick from Portugal
Thanks for that info, I have just found out from a chap that works at a Peugeot garage that SR stands for Sports Refined but that's all he knows , can anybody shed any more light on this thankyou. mick plant from Shropshire
That sounds better than Shi##y Rubbish which is what I used to believe it stood for when I had a 309 SR many years ago. Mick from Portugal

I have a popping sound and small amount of smoke coming from the engine oil filler when the filler cap is removed. Taking the filler cap off did cause the engine to stall. Any thoughts please?
With that description I'd be thinking along the lines of a there being a problem with the valve seals. Mick from Portugal

Hi, I bought my car from Arnold Clarke one month ago and recently vacuumed it to find a hole under the car mat on the drivers side. The car has done about 40,000 miles. The hole is approximately a heel size and is in front of the clutch; it goes through to the chassis. Arnold Clarke say this is a hole that should be there and all I need is a new carpet. I would like to know if this is true? Please could you advise me? Many thanks, Mrs T. Mann
Ask yourself this, if the hole is supposed to be there what's the point of buying a new carpet? If it's meant to have this hole then the new carpet would also have a hole in it. Mick from Portugal

The car doesn't make an alert sound when lights are left on and the cars switched off , resulting in my leaving lights on a couple of times
I reckon you have three options they are, from most expensive to least expensive; 1 = replace the existing warning buzzer, 2 = fit an after-market warning buzzer, 3 = learn to stop leaving the lights on. Mick from Portugal

The screen of my car is partially blank even though the radio is playing i cannot see any warnings or set time and date. The screen has dark lines so i cant even make up whats written there, could somebody tell me what could be the problem
Chances are that your screen is not working because someone pressed on it too hard. Mine has dark lines only for 10% of the screen. Perhaps you need to go to Peugeot and ask them about the problem and then go to where they sell Peugeot second hand parts and purchase the screen there, if there is a need to buy it. Tlatsetso from South Africa
I had the same problem....and didn't do anything about it but then my clutch went I took it to get repaired and asked the guy about the screen.....he said he'd take a look when I got the car back it was working he said sometimes just disconnecting the car battery resets the electrics....worth a try Isabelle Chessher from Essex

I bumped into this potholw while driving at 60km/h and it made this nasty noise . I wanted to ask if i should be worried about my peugeot making my drive unsafe from now on because of this ? What is the worst thing that could have happened to my car because of that hit ?
Hello Arlend, you could have damaged your coil spring, shock absorber, track rod end, balljoint upper strut,if I were you I would pop into your nearest garage and let them look the damage over if there is any at all, good luck.alex. mr alexander calder from City of Edinburgh

After a month or so off road, we attempted to start up our 308. As there was ice on the wind shield I tried turning on the blowers to de-ice However there's no air coming out at all even on highest setting (not hot, not cold, nothing at all) when pressing the different options for feet/hand/windscreen, I can hear the mechanism moving the 'diffuser' or whatever it's called to the correct position, but no air comes out at all. I've checked the 40A fuse under the bonnet and it looks fine Any ideas?

The stereo/sat nav seems to have given up. For no apparent reason it suddenly ejected the cd and since then the ejection mechanism keeps working about every 20 seconds. Every thing else is now 'dead'. Also, the mile-ometer has reverted to KPH and I can't seem to change it. Any ideas?

I found this great site on the recommendation of a shop assistant from Hallford. The problem with my 308 is I keep getting flat batteries and I just can't work out why. The battery itself was tested and does not need changing. I assumed it was me forgetting lights or something but I check everything really well with my kids, put the lights on manual to avoid confusion with the car keys...I have had a nightmare with the seat belts going off for no reason. Looking at this website has been great as I think I will follow advice on how to disarm them (impossible to do with the manual !) Could this have caused the flat batteries? Any advice on what it could be ? I am reluctant to go to the Peugeot car dealer because my experience of it so far has been that I go with a small problem and end up with them finding a bigger one and lots to pay! My 308 has been great but the gadgets have been nightmarish- plus expense of wheels to change with bolts only found at Peugeot and so more expensive...

Hi all, I have a rather annoying rattling noise which sounds like its coming from the front near side. It is a plastic sounding noise. Not sure if there are any plastic caps on top of the shocks but that is what it sounds like. The rattling is not constant and comes and goes. I have just had the anti-roll link bar changed as the bush had gone, was hoping this was the cause but turns out it is not. Has anyone else had this or can anyone advise on things to check? Thanks.

Good afternoon. I have a (59) plate 308 HDI diesel. I rather stupidly tried to start my car with just the metal piece of the key, as it had become detached from the plastic fob. The anti theft device turned itself on. I then tried to start the car with the spare, which had the remote locking fob on it, the car does not start. The car still shows a warning that the anti that device is active. Can I start the car agin? Do I reset it with the spare somehow? Any assistance is gratefully accepted. Kind regards Gary

I bought a second hand 308 Vti 1.4 S 57 plate 83k miles. Fault flashed up with engine warning light. *Temp gauge seems to never move in transit unless stopped at light etc... *Engine light on *Anti Pollution Fault on display Seemed ok on drive home from dealers via motorway. Basically sold as seen so no come back. Not afraid to spend something on the car as appreciate the age and it looks ok, drives ok. Bought cheap as searched similar ages models and I've paid a lot less. They probably knocked the code off before selling on! Thanks, genuinely need help as this car replaces stolen one using my insurance payout! Advice please
I've paid out quite a bit trying to sort this problem on 58 plate. Only difference with mine is that my car would lose power, the throttle would be to the floor and I'd barely get it above 30mph. Also the cooling fan wouldn't shut off either. After three different mechanics taking a look/changing various parts and telling me that the main brain (computer) is on its way out and would cost £1800-£2500 to replace. I got lucky and found a really good electrical engineer who told me it's not the main computer. He changed the manifold sensor, spark plugs and put a product called Cataclean (can be purchased from Halfords £16) in the fuel tank to clean up the injectors. It is now a day later.. The car (so far) is driving great! The fan is off. There are no warning or engine lights on. All I can do is live in hope that this has sorted the problem. I wish you all the luck. My 308 cc makes a load clunk noise noise when i reverse out of my drive on to the road,on full lock then brake. it also seems to do the same thing(but not every time)when moviing forward after the the revervse.Yesterday i also noticed the clunk when pulling in to my drive. It only seems to be the front nearside that is a problem. What is the most probable cause?----pads/calipers----tie rods---shocks???
It sounds like a similar noise to what I had, took the car back and it turned out to be the cross member on the rear suspension. It was replaced under warranty. Wayne from Hampshire
