Hi, my battery was flat this morning on my 2010 Peugeot 308. I jump started it and it’s now running fine. The problem I have now is that the radio display is constantly flashing and it won’ t let me change any of the settings. I’ve tried pressing the menu button but nothing happens and also the radio won’t work. Any ideas please?

I purchased my new Peugeot 308 in March 2013 and am really pleased with it except for two problems. Firstly when I use my front wipers they bang loudly when they are fully open which drives me mad. The service person said that some cars do that. Secondly when accelerating it rattles like something is loose. Should I just put up with this or can it be fixed?

The left rear indicator on my Peugeot 308 is not working but the light is fine. When I remove the bulb and put it back again and put the cover back in place it works momentarily but then stops again. What could the problem be? Any ideas would be much appreciated. Thanks.

When I drive my Peugeot 308 and press the accelerator pedal to the floor, the depollution system warning comes on and the car goes into limp mode. I have had it into a garage and they have replaced all the coils. They explained that one of my cylinders was mis-firing and that was the cause. After all this, the car is still doing the same thing. I have checked the battery and spark plugs and spoken to auto electricians etc but no-one can help me. There is no problem with the car if you drive normally, but as soon as the accelerator goes to the floor the car "bombs" out. Can anyone please help me as I am at my wits end with this car? (1.6 XT)

Hi all. I have a Peugeot 308 2009 petrol. It has driven well so far until recently when the air conditioning stopped cooling. I’ve changed the AC gas and it worked fine for a while, but now the problem has come back again and no cool air is coming out. There is a heating problem too but I don’t know if there is any relation between the two? Does anyone have any advice please?

My parents have a brand new Peugeot 308 1.6 diesel. They have had constant trouble with the engine spluttering and juddering. Peugeot have told them it’s the fap filter and that they need to give it a 20 minute run at 70 mph every week up the motorway because they dont use it enough! Now, like I’ve said, the car is brand new and my parents have done around 12k in it already. It’s been in the Peugeot garage 4 times this year and all they say is it’s the fap filter. I do not buy this and think it’s nonsense. Does anyone have any idea as to the reason for all the problems, other than it`s a Peugeot?

I’ve changed the factory-fitted stereo in my Peugeot 308 to a Pioneer model, but now I realise I can’t change the time on the car’s clock as the controls for that were on the factory stereo. Is there any other way of changing the clock, or am I stuck now? I did find a YouTube video which showed the clock being set with the steering column control stalk, but it is completely non-functional with this new stereo. Any suggestions please?

I’ve recently bought a new to me Peugeot 308 and none of the internal alarms sound - the fuel warning, seatbelt alarm, lights warning when I leave them on and open the door. I also don’t hear anything when the indicators are on. The indicators themselves work and the small green lights inside flash but there`s no noise, Does anyone have any answers please?

Recently for some unknown reason the stereo in my Peugeot 308 now displays "SILENCE" when you try to listen to the radio. If I try to put a CD in the CD player it whirrs around and then just displays PAUSED. I have looked in the manuals and online and have found nothing. Can anyone explain why it is doing this please?

It takes about 2 miles for my Peugeot 308`s temperature gauge to read normal. The heater is not as hot as it should be, just warm and I have felt the top hose after it is on normal temperature and it is hot but the bottom hose is stone cold. I have had a diagnostic check at a Peugeot dealer today and all was okay, so they don`t know what the answer is but are willing to charge me £274 for a new thermostat housing although they could not guarentee this would solve the problem. Any ideas? Thanks.

I have a rattle/noise in my Peugeot 308`s boot that sounds like a piece of plastic vibrating. I thought it might be the tool holder clipped onto the spare wheel but it’s not. It only occurs over bumps or rough roads and can be annoying. I took it into a dealership and the mechanic took 5 minutes to tighten/fix something in the boot. I unfortunately did not see this to do it myself. Love the car! How can I get this rattle/noise to go away? (2.0 HDi)

Hi, I’ve read somewhere that there is an Aux port in the glove box of my Peugeot 308 so that I can plug in my MP3 player, however I can’t locate it in mine. The glove box looks very small and most of that it taken up by the fuse box - am I being daft or is it there somewhere? Thanks.

While driving my Peugeot 308 in the early morning with the heater fan on full, when I switched the headlamps to full beam the engine light came on and the engine cut out. I waited for about 5 seconds and the car restarted okay and drove on with no problems. Is this a common issue with the car? I have only had it a matter of 3 weeks and never experienced this on any other car? (diesel)
Answers
This happened to me this morning, couldn’t find anything on the web other than your post. So I’ve been to the dealers as my 308 1.6 diesel is only 2 weeks old. They ran tests etc but found nothing wrong, they explained that the onboard computer logged a engine software glich. So they have reset and double checked everything and said it shouldn’t happen again. I would suggest you do they same. Better safe than sorry. The tests they did only took an hour - Mark from Lancashire
Thanks, I have taken it back the garage have cleaned fuel rail sensor saying this has sometimes caused problems. They did check engine management but no fault code had been stored. They assure me it is just a ’blip’ and should not happen again! Shaun Ford from Somerset

I had my Peugeot 308 serviced this week and since I’ve had it back from the mechanic the dipped headlights seem really bright, too bright. I was driving yesterday as it began to get dark and 2 people started flashing me as I was driving along, so I know there’s something not quite right. Then when I switch on the main beams too it’s blinding. I’ve checked the height adjust setting and that all seems okay. Any suggestions?

Hi. My Peugeot 308 has never had a brilliant heater, (takes ages to get hot) but after a recent service (self done not dealer) the heater only gets warm, even after a long drive. When the controls are set to internal face, the passenger side gets slightly warmer than the driver`s side. Does anyone have any ideas? (Petrol)
Answers
OK, you need a few things for the heater to operate. 1) Engine must be up to temperature. 2) Hot water from the engine must be circulating through the heater matrix. 3) Air must be pushed through the heater matrix to pass the heat from the water to the air. It’s easy to tell if the engine is up to temp, and on this age car, it’s unlikely the heater matrix has blocked. I would suspect the problem is between the control panel and the valve that controls the water flow. Either the control panel is not sending the correct signal, or the solonoid is not reacting correctly. The only real way of testing this is to use an oscilloscope to check the signal. Most decent auto techs will do this for a smallish payment, or if you wanted to Maplin do a small oscilloscope perfectly suitable for this for about £100 - G Davies from Monmouthshire

Despite replacing the indicator bulb on my Peugeot 308, the rear left indicator will not work. I have checked the bulb and the socket, all seem okay. Is this a circuit or voltage problem? (Diesel)
Answers
I’ve had this problem with both of my rear indicator lights. It seems that the final block connector to the rear light cluster isn’t particularly well made. I have looked at mine and it looks like some arching has taken place resulting in an oversized socket connector. I have resolved this by packing out the connector socket (for a short term solution) with tin foil. Ultimately the rear connector (female side) will need replacing - Dave Mess from England

Hi there! I would need some response for anyone who possesses a Peugeot 308 |(possibly 11 REG). I seem to have a fault regarding the aircon. My car just accumulates steam which does not go, even with aircon activated to full power (5). it just take ages to clear the front windscreen. Even after travelling for almost 20 minutes, I do not have full visibility! The garage said that they could not reproduce the fault. Could anyone please come back to me? How long does it take to clear steam from your windscreen in current weather conditions? Thank you.

Hi. Make sure you do NOT have the heater set to the recirculate position - fresh air setting demists much quicker! Could also be moisture in your heating system or damp car mats. I don’t use the air con to demist and it clears in mins. Have had 4 Peugeot’s and never had any prob - Murray L from Perthshire

For the last year since my Peugeot 308`s last service, the car automatically locks all of the time but it never used to do this before. The way I know this is because my children got locked in the car with the keys in the ignition and I had to get the RAC to come and open the doors. The dealers have said it cannot be removed but it definitely wasn’t on before. Now they have messed about with it again and now cannot take my auto locks off the door when I have turned the engine off. The daylight running bulbs have 2 filaments in so are dual function, and quite often one of the filaments will blow so it won’t work on daylight run setting but will work on main beams - mine were always blowing until I payed a bit more for the specific reinforced daylight running bulbs from Halfords (<£5). Sounds similar to a problem I had with mine - it baffled Peugeot mechanics for a year or so! The problem was that whoever had the car before me either did not service the car properly or the mechanic that said it had a full service lied and could be bothered to change the fuel filter, so as soon as it was changed (at 47k instead of 20k) and the management system reset it works like new with no warning light! In November 2011 I bought a demo Peugeot 308 Active with 5,300 miles from a Lookers` dealership. It has now done a further 3,000 miles. A few days ago when returning home from a 2 mile trip the car lost it`s drive completely. The AA attended and were able to put the vehicle into gear without using the clutch and with the engine running. There was no sound or any drive and no smell. The dealers removed the gearbox and found that the clutch plate was burntout. They will not repair under warranty because of driver misuse. I have been driving professionally for 50 years and have never had any problem with a clutch. I have never ridden the clutch as is being suggested. I believe that I inherited the problem when I bought the car or it is because of some other underlying reason. I would appreciate any assistance as to what may have caused this problem. Can anyone help?
Answers
We also bought a used 308 from Lookers Cardiff. It was a 2007 model and after 3 months the clutch started to fail. Having a 12 month warranty we returned it to Lookers who would not repair it due to WEAR AND TEAR . However after seeking legal advice we found that being traders in the first six months they had to prove that the defect was not there or developing at point of sale, they did eventually agree to pay for the repair but not through the warranty. Hope this helps - Mike Edds from Wales
Update on my clutch problem is that after threatening legal action like Mike, Looker Cardiff decided to pay the £1,200 bill themselves, outside the warranty. I believe they recognised that the damage had occurred prior to point of sale. Disappointing though that as an established customer PEUGEOT seemed only interested in absolving themselves of any resposibilty and refused to consider the possibility of there being an underlying problem in the clutch mecanism - John Heath from Cardiff

My ex demo Peugeot 308 Hdi Active is almost a year old and has done 8,000 miles. Without warning after having driven 2 miles the car developed a drive problem and broke down. Immediately before this the engine seemed to race but there was no burning smell. With the engine running I was able to depress the clutch and put the vehicle in gear. Upon release of the clutch the vehicle remained stationary. When the AA engineer attended he repeated the above exercise and in addition was able to select all gears, with the engine running and not using the clutch. No grating gear sound was heard. At the dealers the gearbox was removed and the clutch was found to be burnt out. I was told ’sorry the warranty doesn’t cover clutch wear caused by poor driving pracice’. My dealers have not looked for any other cause and were not sympathetic to my claim of being a professional driver of 50 years with no previous clutch history. With the AA man being able to put the veicle into gear without a problem I wondered whether or not it was possible for the clutch to stick in the engaged position. Can anyone help me?Any assistance would be appreciated.

My Peugeot 308 has a smell of diesel in the car which is very strong when idling. The garage says that it was leaking fuel injector seals so I had them replaced, but the smell returned within a few weeks. My Peugeot 308 engine seems to be using oil as I have had to top up oil about every 6 weeks with about a litre of oil. What can be causing this and what can be done to fix any possible problem?
Answers
Richard, I have had the same problem since first service last August, since which time I have had to refill 3 times on average mileage! Chief technician at my local Peugeot garage now running 1,000 mile oil test, was surprised to hear that they consider 1L for every 500 miles as not excessive! Also told me that when cars are new they are filled with very high performance oil as the engine is ’tight’ when new. This means that when first oil change occurs they will must be putting in the ’recommended’ grade, which presumably means that it burns much quicker! Hope this helps - Neil from Berkshire
How many miles you already done on the same oil? I suppose quite over what is recommended so it is supposed to run the engine at the most 6,500 miles and then change the oil plus the oil filter, because over running on the same oil will change the oil like water and it burns very quickly. By the way, this old oil will affect the turbo and shorten its life, and the life of the engine - Choukri Kayal from France

Try to change the fuel filter first - Choukri Kayal from France
Hi Richard, I have experienced the same with my 308, in fact I have had the car actually lose complete power and switch off while driving. Peugeot advised me it is relating to dirty diesel. I argued that this is a safety issue, especially if travelling long distances in Australia. I nearly killed myself on one trip where the the car just would not give me enough power when attempting to overtake a road train and then when arriving at the nearest town, the car was just shutting down. After being advised it was dirty fuel, I contacted Peugeot Australia to advise that the car is not safe. They took no responsibility and told me to take it up with the fuel company. I would love to know how many other 308 drivers have been experiencing the same issue. Granted I have become more selective with the fuel stations I fill up at and this seems to be ok but still not good enough on Peugeot part as every now and then I still get momentary loss of power. Anyway, best to ask your Peugeot service centre to give your fuel system and filters a bit of a cleanse then fill up on some fresh diesel at a service station which has a high turnover of diesel supply - Aussie 308 from Australia
I too have had car cutting out at low speeds. I have 308 diesel and I also have an Expert van. Both go to same fuel station which serves Shell diesel. 308 had diagnostic check and had clear all fault codes but none related to this issue. I asked machanic at Peugeot to look at fuel filter which was a little dark so decided to replace and car has been good so far. Also tested battery which failed. Will replace just in case that is playing up with ecu. Some days the car ran beutifully and other days was very sluggish and 6 speed auto very slow in changing as well as reduced power - Paul Kelly from Australia
My girlfriend had a similar problem and after much strife it turned out to be her cat/converter. Expensive as she had only had the car 3 months. On replacing it the mechanic said if he had a penny for every 308 that came through his door with the same fault, he would be a rich man - Ian Mac from Ayrshire
Hi, I think it could be the catalytic converter as it happened to my Peugeot 308 @ +/- 15,000 klm which was replaced by the Peugeot dealer as it was under warranty, it is really a sluggish and frustrating situation when on the road and cars behind u are impatient not realising your snail paced scenario. I hope this will help. Cheers - Keith Johannes from South Africa

I had the same problem on my 2008 308. The local garage could not diagnose the problem and advised me to take it to the main dealer for diagnostics. I did - it turned out to be a leaking temperature sensor. Prior to this the car would not idle properly and lost power when on the move. A friend of mine has a diagnostic tool, so we scanned the car and seems that everything is fine, no errors codes. I replaced spark plugs, checked the fuel pump, the relay fuse, and everything. seems to be good. I checked the injectors and they seems to be OK as well. I took the car to garage they scanned the car with special diagnostic tool (Bosch scanned 540) and no errors codes but one thing they found was that there was no spark. Peugeot UK did not wish to address this issue and referred me to my local Peugeot garage. My garage will change the wiper arms over but not under warranty. I have to pay! WHY? Hi, the problem you’re having is in the doors maybe all 4 (unless its a 3 door). Water builds up in the rear door. Why?
Answers
So does mine! Just emptied out almost 1 litre, done this by piercing round black sticker covering holes in bottom of door. It’s going to Peugeot tomorrow to get water tested on rear door seals and for me to get an explanation! - Paul Wells from England

The car experienced loss of power in higher gear, when trying to accelerate. I took it to a garage and was told that where the oil/fuel mix is, there is a build up of sludge/carbon which is strangling the engine. The engine is a THP150 and it could be a known fault with this engine. Peugeot has offered to pay a percentage of the repair (approx £1500), which makes me think it has happened to other customers. Has anyone else had this problem? (Sport)

My car did this, took it back, it then did this on test drive with the garage staff but nothing on laptop. Changed parts and the car was okay for a few weeks then it started over. The car then went to Coventry for test. Found nothing wrong (HQ Coventry are all yes men). I then got Trading Standards involved and put it all in writing. I got my 15 month car with 18,000 miles changed for a nine month car with 8,000 miles. Happy now but it takes time to put it all in writing - Alec Maxwell from Dumfriesshire
I have had this happen three or four times. Mine’s a THP 140 Auto. Year 2008. Have yet to take it into the garage - Richard Long from Devon

The dash indicator flashes that the rear door is open which it is not. The interior light also remains on as if the door is open. This means I cannot lock the car as the system reopens the doors when I try to lock it. HELP!! (90S 1600 Diesel)

The ’check oil’ warning light comes on when starting the car, but upon inspection, the oil level is fine. It’s only just started to do this. The warning light is where the radio is.

Hi, I wonder if anyone else has had my problem. I have 2 yr old 308 hdi 110 SE. I took it to dealership: first wrong diagnoisis - clutch at 37k, then they said one of the diesel nozzles. Once they replaced it the engine was still not good then cylinder head taken off today. I get a call and they say they are going to change the engine under warranty which is good as I can’t afford £4,750, not including fitting. I always had a high regard for these diesel engines but this has made me change my mind. I don’t think I will touch Peugeot again in the future, this car cost me 22k brand new. A lovely ride, good quality inside but this is a bad experience for me. Anyone had the same problem? (se hdi 110)

My car has done under 8,000 miles and has developed a squeak. The garage say the calipers need replacing and that this is covered under the warranty, but that the break pads are worn and need to be replaced as well and that they are not covered under warranty. But I think these have worn due to faulty calipers and not due to my driving as I do not drive excessive distances and the car is only just 12 months old. Is it correct that I should have to pay for new pads, when I have only done under 8000 miles? Thanks.
Answers
Fret ye not! All dealerships/garages will demand you replace your brake pads when then replace the discs under all circumstances. Your ’squeak’ is probably due to the fact that the pads are lacking in any copper grease on the points of contact on the caliper and the pad mount springs. In the old days we used to have shims between the metal backing of the pad and the caliper piston to stop brake squeak. These days most have either a bonded shim or nothing at all. If your pads have no shims or copper grease, then I’m afraid it is likely that you will have brake squeak again at some point - Andy from Hampshire

Why does my Peugeot 308 speed up when I take my foot of the accelerator (not always, just occasionaly)? Anyone else had this problem? (hd90)
Answers
I have the same problem. When I change gear, if I miss out 3rd and go from 2nd gear to 4th gear the revs increase without my foot being on the accelerator. It can be very scary - Brian Hodson from England
I have the same problem. Have taken it in to be checked and had some software changed but it is still happening intermittently - Janice Kynaston from England

308 HDI. A week prior to the car going for the 45,000km service, an engine oil level warning popped up, on checking the dipstick it showed below minimum. This is my third Peugeot in succession with full service histories and I have NEVER had to add oil between services. I do a fair amount of travelling on a daily basis and have not experienced any loss in power, change in consumption or seen any indication of oil leaking anywhere. On average I get between 5.4 and 5.8/100km. Can you please give any advice on what to check or questions to ask regarding this matter. (Diesel)

27000 miles on the clock and the clutch has gone. Is that normal? I bought the car 2 months ago.
Answers
Hi, as 27k isn’t much mileage, do you mean the clutch plate has gone and is slipping or the bearing making a noise when you apply the clutch? Did the vehicle have a towbar fitted? Or still got one? If so, it may have been used to tow something substantial and will not be included in the manufacturer 3 year warranty anyway - Andy from Hampshire
