Hi. I have a 206 van on a 03 plate. This van has served me well, but now I need a car. As the van has all the fixing posts, I bought the rear seats and belts from a local dealer. I haven’t fixed them in the van yet as I don’t know the legal situation behind this. Do I have to re-register my van as a car and if so how do I do this?

This fault appears now and again, when I turn on the ignition - the dashboard lights up but as soon as I try and start the van all power is lost. The battery is OK, the alternator is OK and the van bump starts OK. Then it could be a couple of days or weeks before the fault appears again. Any ideas anyone?

I bought the van from new at Peugeot and had all the special locks etc fitted to the van. I just recently had an accident and the dealers who are repairing the vehicle sent the details of the van to my insurers. The description from the chassis number was for a car - different colour etc... not for a van with the specifications. When I try and look up the chassis number VF32SWJYU41724197 it says invalid number. All the specs on the vehicle are wrong, and due to this I am having great difficulty with the insurers understanding the value of the van. Can you please advise why the chassis number gives the wrong spec? I bought the vehicle from new. Due to the age of the van I am having to foot the repairs myself, as it is sign written, only 83,000 miles and in great shape apart from the accident I had with the front end. They will not repair it, they say it is in excess of the repair amount but I need them to pay for the vehicle and I will buy it back, but I really need the proper spec for the van. Can you help or at least explain why it shows as a car? Thank you. By the way the van has given great service with more to come.

I can’t see the manufacturer fitting the wrong VIN plate, so the only other conclusion is either somewhere along the way the numbers in the factory or registration database were incorrectly entered or there are two VIN plates i.e. VIN clone vehicle. It’s possible somebody has hijacked your VIN number and re-registered the details as modifications? All in all, contact the police. You can then get an incident number to pass to your insurers, who in turn will HAVE to ensure the authenticity of the vehicle. As youve have the vehicle from new, that wont be a problem. It will force the insurers to accept the authenticity of your insured vehicle, hence final pay-out - Tom Dercy from England

I have just bought a second hand 2003 Peugeot 206 1.4 van for use as a private vehicle, for dogs etc. I assumed the road tax would be £30 per year - the same as the Peugeot car. I noticed on the tax disc that it is much more. Does anyone know why this is?

Hello, I was wondering the same have you found out how much the tax is for the year for the 206 van? The exact same car model is only £30 a year? - George Cowell from Wrexham
The car is a four seater, the van is a two. The car is registered as a domestic vehicle whilst the van is registered as a commercial vehicle. Domestic and commercial road tax are different. The domestic vehicle is assumed to do 12,000 miles per annum. The van is assumed to run in excess of that hence a minimum commercial road tax rate. As far as I am aware, you cannot reclassify the van as domestic. But it is worthwhile to check with DVLA - Tom Dercy from England
