Has anyone had their Nissan Terrano re-mapped? If so, is there much of a difference performance/fuel wise?

I have a Nissan Terrano 2002 3.0 diesel sve. Every now and then the rev counter drops to zero and the eml comes on, then within a minute the rev counter comes back to normal but the light stays on. Then if you push it hard it goes into limp mode, I switch it off, restart and the light goes out. Then it drives fine until it happens again. I guess it`s one of many sensors but does anyone know which one, as this would save me loads of time and money? Many thanks.

Power window glasses of my Nissan Terrano`s two front doors refuse to work. I’ve checked all the fuses and they are okay. Where might the problem be?
Best to remove the door trims and put a multimeter on the plug for the winder motor. See if it gets power. That way you will avoid hours of poking around if the problem is with both motors stuck or faulty. Mine stuck and I could hear it click and try to turn but the regulator did not move Robert O’Neill from England
Happened to mine. The motors sometime just jamb. If you can hear a click when you try to operate the window remove the door trim and tap the motor with a screwdiver handle or similar. If it is only jambed that should free it. Good luck Fred Dimber from Buckinghamshire

Hi, I have just bought this 1994 Nissan 4wd Terrano 2.7 auto. I`m fully aware that the auto trans was damaged. I have been told to fit an external oil cooler for the auto as this solves a design problem, especially if I plan to tow a caravan. Is anyone able to advise me if this is correct?
I fitted an extra trans oil cooler to 92 r3m. It helped a lot towing the boat and caravan. You still need to keep an eye on the water temp gauge on long or steep hills. The auto trans oil runs through a radiator that is inside the engine cooling water radiator so one affects the other Ian Robertson from New Zealand

My Nissan Terrano`s engine won`t start. There was no light for the heater plugs then it was turning over slowly.I replaced the battery but no different, still turning over slowly. I checked the starter motor which was okay. Could it be the immobiliser playing up?
Could you have a bad earth connection or a bad starter relay? These cars seem very prone to corrosion in and around the wiring Robert O’Neill from England
Neither will mine, it’s a b*****d isn’t it. Mine’s got a 14 pin diagnostic and I don’t know if I should scrap it or put some money in. It’s a shame to scrap, it’s a great car! and where I live having a 4x4 not running in Winter is utterly heartbreaking Gary Yarker from England

sI just changed the rear diff (LSD) in my Nissan Terrano as the old one locked up. It is good now but the 4wd light flashed after about 5 minutes on the motorway, Wrecker told me it was the same diff (4.6:1) and I counted the teeth which were the same (46). It seems weird that it started after I changed the diff, does this mean it was the wrong diff?

When I turn the key on my 53 reg 2.7 Nissan Terrano to start it the engine does not turn over. I have to do this 3 or 4 times before it actually turns over and starts. After it starts it runs fine for about five minutes, then it starts to lose power and comes to a halt, but is still running. I don`t think it`s glow plugs because the engine doesn`t turn over at all. What`s going on?
Sounds like fuel problem. I had this on my 2001 2.7tdi. Fuel line near tank corroded and letting air bubbles into fuel. At first glance it smacks of a heater plug issue, but the eventual startup followed by power loss points to a lack of fuel. Incidentally, I found no fuel leak but air was still being pulled in by the pump. Replacing the rear section of pipe with new solved the problem immediately. Your problem sound similar - somewhere air is being pulled in to fuel. Hope this helps Dave from England
Dave has a point, however the not turning over is more likely to be a worn out ignition switch Paul Moss from Cambridgeshire

I just want to know how big are the batteries I need in my Nissan Terrano 2 Diesel 2.7 engine with Dual Batteries? Someone told me it has to have 2 x batteries with 70Hampere but I want to be sure. Thanks in advance for any help. Kind regards.

I recently had my Nissan Terrano`s wheels rotated and alignment done after having a warrant done. Now occasionally I have the fwd light flash. This stops when I restart and may not come on again for a few days. Also and this is unrelate, when I accelerate out of a left turn I have a rattle on the rear, possibly centre to left hand side. Does anyone have any ideas?
Is the 4x4 light Hi or Low? Either way when it comes on check to make sure its not in any 4x4, then reverse the truck 3 meters. That will disengage 4 wheel drive. As for the rattle it is most likely a rubber bush that has worn Brian Clark from England

Hey there. I have a 1995 Nissan Terrano 2.7 turbo diesel. When the motor is cold it will always start, however it sometimes (now more often) stalls. but before so the idle jumps around the place like nobody`s business. Once stalled it takes a couple of tries to get her going again. Is this a fuel pump problem or are there maybe cheaper ways to deal with this? Cheers.
I would check 3 possible causes : 1 - the gauze filter at the banjo connection on the inlet fuel pipe on top of the injection pump, 2 - corroded fuel pipes on chassis, 3 - fuel tank sender pipe inside fuel tank Chris from Fife and Kinross Shires
It also could simply be a waterlogged/blocked fuel filter! Paul Moss from Cambridgeshire

Hello. I have oil being pumped into the cooling system of my Nissan Terrano at quite a rate. I topped up the oil and after running for 5 minutes I removed the radiator cap and oil came pouring out. I turned off the engine and found no oil on the dipstick! My inclination is to think it`s the head gasket but you will know much more than me. Can anyone advise me? (2.7 TDI)
You have a ruptured waterway/oilway port in your head gasket, get head gasket replaced. Quickly! Paul Moss from Cambridgeshire

Hi, my Nissan Terrano`s rev counter, speedo, fuel gauge, temperature gauge and all warning lights have stopped working. I read on here this is a common fault but I changed the fuse and it was okay for a few months, then the fuse blew, I changed it again and it blew a couple of months after. Will this common fault with the instrument panel blow the fuse or should I be looking for something else wrong? Any advice would be very much appreciated, thanks.
Just had the same problem. Any joy in fixing it and where is the fuse located as all mine are good? Ta. Sandy Armour from Powys
My speedo, fuel gauge, rev counter and all warning light keep going off, seems like a loose connection because sometimes it will come on, but when it does go off the lights, indicators, windows and wipers won't work, it's a Nissan terrano 4x4. Can you tell me what this is and how I can fix it please Cheryl beesley from Lancashire

I can hear water (liquid) sloshing about at the rear of my Nissan Terrano. There is no smell but I`ve never had any noise from the tank on this or previous Terranos I owned. It came on after this very wet summer. Has anybody had this same problem please or know how to remove it? (2 sev di)
Hi, I’ve had this problem before, the sills fill with water, just drill 2 small holes at each end of sill and watch the water drain out! Malcolm Spann from Cornwall
It’s just the fuel in the fuel tank! I have heard the liquid noise too after refilling. No need to panic. Some Guy from Australia

My Nissan Terrano drives fine until an hour or two of motorway driving and then the engine violently judders, especially during accelerating or going uphill. When analysed on the computer, there is no fault found. Has anyone any idea what is causing this? (diesel 2953 CC)
I would check the MAF sensor. Also the injectors, and the injector filters (micro filters). And the banjo micro filter. Drain the fuel filter, or better still replace it. My last answer is the most likely the cause of your problems Brian Clark from England

I have a 99 2.7 tdi Nissan Terrano. It’s started playing up by failing to start at all after being run. It was low on fuel so it may have taken in air but has run for several hours after, but is now struggling to start once switched off. It just turns over without firing, almost as if it`s out of fuel. My only way of starting is bump starting it. Any ideas?
There is a small gauze filter in the banjo bolt on the injector pump inlet fuel pipe which gets choked, this causes a lot of starting and running problems. This might be the fault Chris from Fife and Kinross Shires

We have a Nissan Terrano sve 3.0 manual diesel 04 plate and we have just had a full service and the oil light stays on, even though we had a new oil pressure switch fitted. The engine oil is reaching the top of the rocker box under pressure. Is there anything we can do or do you think it could be the loom? Any suggestions would be gratefully received, thanks. (diesel)
Hi, just had the same problem with mine and there is another oil pressure switch just above the the starter motor which you can get to through the driver side wheel arch Matthew Cowley from Cambridgeshire
Hi, I have a 55 3.0 se di commercial and changing the oil pressure switch just behind the starter motor stopped the oil pressure light coming on ... first I change the one near the engine oil filter and that didn`t work... thank god I came on here... Thanks Jim Haigh from Nottinghamshire
Firstly the Terrano 3.0 has two oil pressure switches, both are bit prone to getting gummed up and putting the oil light on. The one on the nearside (adjacent to oil filter) is a low pressure switch (0.25 bar) and is stamped P15. The one the offside (adjacent to starter) is a high pressure switch (2.5 bar)and is stamped P25, it also has a yellow painted ring around the chamber. This switch works via the ECM and only come into play from 3600rpm (according to Nissan), they are otherwise identical and can easily be inadvertently interchanged. I would recommend changing the two for genuine Nissan replacements. Take care not to loose the paired washer on the oil filter side as the switch is screwed into a union which then goes into a banjo fitting for the turbo oil supply pipe. The offside is best accessed via the rubber shielding behind the offside front wheel. Good luck! Marty Wright from Dorset
Hi all, I recently bought a Nissan Terrano 3.0 Turbo Diesel and the oil light is coming on in the dash. I was hoping to replace the two oil pressure switches but can only find the high pressure switch and can't find the low pressure switch. Everyone I have been on to has told me get two high pressure switches and put them in. Would this do any damage? Please get back to me if you know anything, cheers. Joe Houlihan from Ireland

Hi. I have a Nissan Mistral Terrano that has displayed code p0340. I recently had problems starting it hot or cold and when I rev it it pours out smoke at 2000 revs. I took to the local Nissan dealer and they did a diagnostic and said it was the crankshaft position sensor which I replaced with no change. So I researched how to get and translate codes and now it says 0340 which is cam shaft sensor. The problem is I can`t find it? Can anyone help? Thanks. (Mistral td27t eti. )

Hi. My Nissan Terrano`s remote key has stopped working, I have to lock and unlock the car manually using the key. The car`s alarm sounds too if I don`t enter the code. This is the original key. How can I fix the key to go back to normal? (2.7 Diesel)
Google is your friend. You can recode your key. And if I am right you have to insert the key and then press the throttle several timed times. Google will give you all the details Brian Clark from England
You can re-programme your key, see link: http://www.programyourkeys.com/Nissan_Terano_Key_Remote_Control_Fob_Transponder_Programming.html - if it is actually broken you can get it repaired see link: http://www.pots-of-gold.co.uk/products.php?cat=12 - it will cost £34.99 plus P & P. Hi. My Nissan Terrano 2.7 td 1996, r3m japanese import, with 2 batteries, starts very well but as soon as I put it into reverse or drive (automatic transmission) the engine stalls. After a couple of seconds the engine starts again and if I put it into reverse it is fine. Sometimes if I drive at slow speed, mostly when I’m about to turn right, the engine will stop running, then I switch on the ignition and the engine starts with no problem. I checked the filter in the fuel pump but I could not find one in there. I would like to mention that it has happened maybe 30 times in one year and it does not show on scanner. Can anyone help? Thank you. (R3m)
Hello, I had the same problem, was in garage for 3-4 days and could not find a fault. I took it to a different garage and they changed the fuel line - they noticed some kinks / joints in it - these were causing air to get through. When it next happens, go to your fuel filter and pump / prime it (push the black button in on the top). If it’s easy to do and then gets harder, the car should start 1st time. It’s air in the pipes and 1 little bubble causes it to stop. Worth a try! Larisa Hoe from England

Can anyone give me a bit of advice? My key has stopped working so I am unable to lock my Nissan Terrano with the key. I am able to lock it manually but when I go to unlock it it sets the alarm off. I will be looking at getting a new key soon, I`m supposing that they are expensive. I have managed, through messing around with the alarm button on the dashboard and the crappy key, to turn the alarm off but I`m not sure how, is there a secret method? I don`t lock it all of the time as I live on a farm in the middle of nowhere, but I visit family in Manchester sometimes and really would like to be able to lock and unlock my car without setting off the alarm, or at least know how to turn the alarm off when it does go off. Can anyone help me? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
I hope someone answers your questions as I am having the exact same problem! I often leave it unlocked as when I try to unlock it with the key the the alarms blare out! I have heard that a whole new key could cost over £100, but wondered about some of the replacement kits Sarah L from Lincolnshire
Try the battery in the key as it sounds like you need a new one. If you leave it too long you will have to reset the the key to the car sender. Instructions on how to do this is available on the internet. If you have fitted a new battery make sure it is making contact with the key contacts. Hope this helps Charlie Doherty from Yorkshire
If you just want a key to lock your Terrano don’t go to main dealer’s who charge over £200. I phoned a mobile auto locksmith who cut me 2 new keys, chipped one and programmed both so I have 2 keys that open and lock doors and both start the car. Cost was £55 Peter Franklin from Wiltshire
