problem with the radiator cooling fans, they kick in every time few seconds after starting the car even if the engine is cold (in the morning or after a long park engine off).sometimes it loses the drive in the middle of the road and the fuel consumption is too high.

HI! My driver door won't lock and is making a grinding noise. I have tried everything to lock it inside and out. All the other doors including the boot are locking. Any ideas folks please!!! I took down the panel inside the door and began unscrewing the metal card holder off. I eventually came to the four screws holding the window casing which were dead headed. I unfortunately took three of these heads off and thankfully there is one holding it together. What are the names of these screws so I can replace them? The metal card wouldn't come from the door anyway to let me look at the lock. Much thanks to anyone who has any ideas or answers to this problem - oh my brain!!!

If you slow down if the engine is hot, if you try and accelerate, it does not change to the next gear. The RPM instead rises showing increased engine speed. Could it be the CVT need to be changed or a problem with the transmission box? After how long (distance) should the CVT fluid be changed? Thank you.

Hi, my father in laws 2002 Primera has a problem with the rev's. It drives OK but when you stop the engine starts revving up and down by itself, It goes up to about 2000 revs. Had a look at the engine but could not see anything. Could it be the engine speed sensor?? Its an Automatic and a petrol if that helps. Cheers!!

Hi, I my 2.0 P12 Nissan Primera T-Spec Tiptronics Estate started revving very low in idle with the ignition going off when stuck in traffic. It only improves a little when the Aircondition is on, but even that has not been guaranteed as ignition sometimes goes off again. My mechanic took out the throttle sensor and wiped the accumulated dust from it and refitted it back. Since then, my revving goes as high as 1.7 when idle thereby increasing my thermometer unnecessarily, and when I start my engine it revs even higher before returning to that state. The mechanic told me the vehicle will self programmes itself after three days but I'm not getting any better results. Please help

Hi, could you help? I have a Nissan and the engine management light is on which says I should take it to the garage and have it plugged in! When it's in neutral the car shakes and feels like it's misfiring when going 40mph or over! I`ve done some asking around and people have said it might be the coil pack or the plugs? Any suggestions would be really useful, thanks.

my central locking key fob will not work i change battery in key
Do you have a spare fob to test if the locking system itself is at fault? If not, disconnect the vehicle's positive battery lead and ground it on the engine or chassis for 5 minutes before you reattach it to the battery. this resets all the ecu's in the vehicle into learning mode (Reboots it) and hopefully now the fob will talk nicely to the NATS system......and they will join hands and be happy ever after... I find my car not getting the power i used to after 80km and once i try am hearing a loud sound coming from the engine like it's forcing to excel. What can that be? When scanned it says Line Presure Solinoid. One person says its the A/C bearing or the Compressor and another said its the gears not kicking in. Please help
Wendy, what engine, what transmission, what happened just before all this went wrong? How many kms on the clock? Line pressure solenoid normally means a fault in the auto trans. Do you have an auto trans? When was the last time it was serviced? John Smith from New Zealand

I have a Nissan Primera SVE '04 and thought I would update the satnav. I bought Xanavi x6.0 v.2012/13 (2 discs- Navigation System App Data DVD and Navigation System Map Data DVD). Thought all I needed to do was take out the old disc and pop in the new ones. It comes up with a "note" message to leave ignition and disc in place, and shows a bar with start-finish, but then does not progress from there. In addition my ventialtion and radio controls are frozen, and the rearview camera view does not display. Tried to put the old disc back, but display does not change. What the heck have I done wrong?
Disconnect the positive lead from the battery and ground that lead on the body or engine and leave it there for 5 minutes. this should reset all the ECU's in the vehicle. you do have the security code for the entertainment system..don't you? John Smith from New Zealand
Thank you for your reply. I originally purchased the car second hand, so I do not have any code. Any recommendations? Therese from Wiltshire
Therese, you should take your vehicle and its reg papers to a Nissan dealer. Having proved you are the owner, you should be able to get from them the code for the original entertainment system as sold new. The system is frozen now, you have nothing to lose by doing the disconnect above before you take it to the dealer... John Smith from New Zealand
Thanks. I do have it booked in next Tuesday, so fingers crossed this gets sorted and it does not bankrupt me! Therese from Wiltshire
Therese, what happened at the dealer's? Problem solved...at little cost hopefully? John Smith from New Zealand

I've recently had problems with non OEM alternator belts coming off.... Putting a Nissan OEM belt on seems to have cured the problem... Still remain slightly concerned in case anything else is wrong... The local garage consulted Nissan who thought there was a very slim chance there could be an alternator fault, but best to try original belt first.... Anyone have any feedback from similar incidents?
Yes, there are good alternative manufacturers..and there are some very bad ones. Yes, an OEM belt which is made for that vehicle should cure these problems. The only aftermarket belts I recommend are Gates, made in the USA, and the Green Stripe ones are exceptionally long lived.... If you are truly worried about why the belts may be coming off, use a straight edge to check the alignment of the pulleys, and very carefully check the entire perimeter of the pulleys including the harmonic balancer (crankshaft pulley) for any notches, knife edges from excessive wear from old age, wobbles etc..... Hi I bought a primeria sx 1.8 petrol about a week and yo today been driving and received a warning message to avoid driving in high speed otherwise i will have immediate breakdown. it is an engine message. can someone help please?
As always, the computer in your car sent you the message. Now take the car to a technician with a scan tool and find out what the problem is. You don't specifically need to go to a Nissan dealer for this..there are competent techs at smaller places, too...and they should have no hesitation in plugging in their machine in front of you and showing you the result on the screen. they do it to impress the punters..and it usually works. Otherwise Google the engine model and error message and see what results you get from your WWW search....this may give you a clue so you do not look like a complete sucker to the mechanic..... Hello, can you please help? My car has a terribly bad fuel economy. I get readings of 23.2l/100km and at best I get 16.6L/100km. I've changed my M.A.F, throttle body sensor, checked the catalyst, serviced the injector and had the car scanned severally but still don't get any improvement. I'm really confused. What do you think could the cause?
Gerald, what size engine? Petrol or diesel? Auto trans? Towing? Hills? Heavy traffic? Consumption readings instantaneous or average? Checked against fill up figures at the pumps? Have you replaced the engine air filter recently? Do you use the A/C a lot? Changed your spark plugs recently? Replaced your plug leads/coil packs recently? Checked that the muffler bearings have been oiled and that the muffler is not choked/broken down internally/ Any changes in performance over time? John Smith from New Zealand

Hi I have a Nissan Primera 2001 2.5 litre CVT. While I was driving I heard a horrible noise I took it to the auto mechanic and they replaced the clutch pulley. Since I have got it back when I put the car in reverse or drive it makes a noise and feels like the enigine is shaking. If I have driven for a while and stop especially if the engine is hot the rev counter shows the needle going up and down and sometimes it feels like the engine is not running correctly and wants to cut out. I have also had new spark plugs put in and no change. I am concerned that it may be the transmission cause it seems be a problem only when the car is in gear. Please can you advise me. Thanks
Verne, I think you have diagnosed the problem for yourself as CVT related. If the shaking and shuddering does not happen in neutral......it almost certainly has to be the gearbox. This clutch pulley the mechanic replaced, was it inside the CVT? Did they give you a warranty? Did they say they had overhauled the trans? Friends of mine had a slipping CVT in a Tiida. The trans overhaul expert said a quick diagnosis is to thump the bottom of the trans with a rubber mallet. If you hear a metallic jingling from inside of the trans sump, it means that some drive links from the steel CVT belt are lying in the bottom of the sump. Theirs jingled. It was cheaper to replace the trans entirely with a second hand one rather than try to overhaul it. The total cost for them was $4300, with a 6 month warranty. The car was 6 years old, and had 179,000km before it crapped out. BUT, they had never had the trans fluid replaced..and this should have happened at 60,000km. Oh, if you buy it from new Nissan, you will pay $7000. It used to be $14,000, then $10,000 so you are getting a bargain!. But don't panic, if you wanted to buy one for the GTR Nissan...it is $50,000..just for the CVT trans..... Don't you just love progress and high tech? John Smith from New Zealand

My horn not sounding everytime I press it, check fuse inside engine compartment for blown nothing discover. However listening to the sound anytime the horn is pressed, I can hear a tap sound from the relay box compartment. I don't know if the relay that controls horn system is the problem. Please help.
Take the horn itself out (unbolt it.) Using a jumper wire to the horn's input terminal and grounding the outside of the horn apply 12 volts to the horn. If it goes beep..the horn works, and the problem is in the relay. If it makes no recognisable sound, the horn is stuffed. Buy and fit any old horn that fits and is 12 volt ..second hand or new to make it all work again. Or replace the relay with a new or second hand one if that is the problem. The engine light came on suddenly and the car takes a few turns to star but it drives okay. What could be the problem?
Michael, it was written in the stars by Some Ting Wong that he who drives a vehicle where the engine light comes on and fails to drive to a mechanic to get the computer scanned for fault codes will never know the answer..or what the fault is???? the likelihood is that the starting problem will get worse, until one day, don't know where, don't know when..it will not start at all. Plus you will have worn out your starter unnecessarily, and probably stuffed your battery as well. John Smith from New Zealand

I recently used the satnav (manufacturer fitted) at the end of my journey the car stood idle for about an hour. when starting the car for the return journey everything was normal except after 'NISSAN' showed on the screen the display went to 'AUDIO & TEMP CONTROL' instead of 'MAP'. If I start the car with the 'MAP DISC' taken out and when 'NISSAN' is displayed it also says 'MAP ROM SLOT EMPTY' and then goes to 'AUDIO & TEMP CONTROL' display. I have used the satnav feature numerous times before without any problems. I'm thinking it is probably either the disc or the DVD rom unit that is at fault. But, and this is my question, is my thinking right and if so, how do I discern which or what is at fault?
Mik, why not reboot everything by taking the positive lead off the battery and grounding it on bare metal on the body or engine for 2 minutes? This will force a reboot of all the computers in the car. Then reconnect the lead to the battery and start again and see if this has helped, before diving deeper into electrickery. I just bought a Nissan Primera 2002 model I have problems with gear selection while on the highway . I was told the solenoid valve is faulty .Please what is the solution ? Thanks
Sam, if the solenoid valve on the automatic transmission is faulty the mechanic should drop the trans pan (it's sump), take out the filter, look at the debris there and on the bottom of the pan and can tell what else is worn in the trans. Usually if the auto trans fluid has not been changed in a long time the wear and tear puts small shavings of metal and fibre into the fluid, and that is enough to jam the solenoids. He will replace the solenoid while the pan is off, but the best things then is for him to take out the valve body and clean it all out, then put in a new filter, a new pan gasket, refill and flush the trans with new fluid. It is going to cost, unless you want to do some of this yourself. Google youtube videos on filter, fluid replacement etc... It is not rocket science... John Smith from New Zealand

Hi my Primera has a QR 20 engine. I changed the oil and after that whenever I`ve checked the oil it is low. I keep topping it up but when I check it it is low again. What should I do?
Ricardo, does the oil level keep falling, or does it stabilise at that level (if you drive more, (does it stay there or does it fall further ?) How much are we talking about re "topping up"? 500ml, or 1 litre and after how many kms? Can you see black/blue smoke when you accelerate, or decelerate in gear? How many kms has the vehicle covered? Has this increased consumption happened suddenly, or has this been increasing over time? Some oil consumption should always happen, and it can look as if the oil level drops suddenly if the vehicle has been driven around town on short trips, then goes on a long journey where the water and other volatiles that collect in the sump at low speeds evaporate at higher speed, so the next dipstick reading is lower..... I've got a nissan primera 2003 model and not had it long but when I broughf it the radio/cd player didn't work and says secure on the screen in a green background on the dashboard screen. I've tried looking online to fix it and its says I need a pin code which I have got but it won't or i can't put the pin code in at all. Its says online to take it to a nissan dealer . Please helpm
First, disconnect the positive lead off the battery and ground it on a metal part of the body not covered by paint. Hold it there for 2 minutes. this will reset the computers in the car including the one in the entertainment system. Now reconnect the battery lead and straight away see if you can input the security code. If nothing happens, go see an auto stereo/cd installer and bat your eyelashes at him when you ask for help, pretty please? If he can't fix it, perhaps the security feature has "locked" the entertainment system down because it thinks that an attempt has been made to steal it. then you will have to go to a Nissan dealer. Hi having problems with my nissan primera. There are vibrations in the stering wheel when coming to a stop or slowing down. I recently had the balance and tracking done but still not solving the problem, any suggestion as to what the promblem could be?
Classical symptoms of very worn brake pads, or out of round (wavy) brake rotors, or loose wheel bearings. Solution is to jack up the front of the vehicle and check for wheel wobble and bearing play. Replace or wash out and repack bearings and tighten to correct specs. Google this procedure it is not rocket science. Then, if no play in wheel bearings, examine the brake pads and the rotors for wear. Replace the brake pads as they are the easiest. bed them properly following the instructions in the packet (Google this, it is not rocket science) Then if the vibrations are still present or the rotors are worn down below tolerance (Google this, it is not rocket science) the brake rotors should be replaced and bedded in as per proper procedures. You will also need to do this same procedure for the rear brakes if all thias work does not stop the vibration as vibrations from the rear can be felt through the steering as well...but the front is the more likely..... While you are under there, also check the wear on the sway bar bushes at both ends and the bushes onto the chassis. they are cheap and easy to replace (Google etc) John Smith from New Zealand

silly question but an annoying feature, how can I get the time to display on the dash without having to lose the climate control display/radio, I have never driven a car before that does not have the time displayed as a standard........ really annoying
In case you have a problem that requires a reboot of the dash display, take the fuse out of the fuse box at the bottom of the dashboard for this circuit. the dash unit will now be reset. You should have the code to put back into the dash unit before you think of doing this. John Smith from New Zealand

water is showing in my oil an car takes a while o start... wat that means
Tina, it's not good, I am sorry. The water in the oil will most likely be coming from a leak in the head gasket which forms the (usually) water and oil tight seal between the block (the bottom part of the engine) and the head - the top part of the engine. If this is the case your coolant level will definitely be going down. Keep a very sharp eye on it, as the coolant can leak into a cylinder and fill it overnight, which will cause bad things to happen to the engine when you try to start it in the morning. Google hydro lock or engine hydrauliced to see what I mean. Check coolant level every morning before starting and if the starter groans or comes to a slamming halt, it's probably already too late, but at least then you can take all the spark plugs out and the leak will become very apparent when you turn the engine over. Coolant will squirt from 1 or 2 cylinders in a fountain. So, once this head gasket seal breaks, there are two schools of thought. The best way to fix it is to take the head off, check the head and the block for straightness, skim (machine) both surfaces dead flat and put in a new gasket. This needs to be done by a mechanic or a very talented amateur. The bodge which MAY work for a time (could be short, could be long time) is to put some sort of gunge in the coolant following the instructions printed on the container of miracle gunge, operating the engine as per those instructions, and hoping and praying that it will hold for as long as you need until you can fix it properly. Bad things about all gunge thrown into the coolant..it can and just might fill other holes etc that should really NOT be filled and which could be a real nuisance to clean out e.g. radiator down tubes. Also you will still have to fix it properly. Get quotes before you make a decision, you could be better off getting a good replacement engine instead of fixing yours... you make the choice.
