I had my Nissan Note valeted last weekend and ever since then the front passenger warning light and chime come on for 90 seconds after I get past 15 mph, even though the seat is completely empty. Has the weight sensor under the passenger seat been damaged or is there another simpler explanation? I can get the alarm to stop by keeping the seatbelt buckled up but it`s a bit of a nuisance. Can anyone help?.

The interior boot light of my Nissan Note will not go out. When the car`s interior lamps are both switched off and the door is open the light on the dashboard stays on, even though all of the doors are closed. Also the indicators no longer flash when locking the car but they do when opening it. Are the two faults related and what could the cause be?

If the light stays on then it is saying the car is open so the lights won’t flash. Make sure you check all the doors are shut properly - Brendan from Lancashire

Has anybody else had trouble removing the electric wires/plug from the back of the headlight bulb on a Nissan Note? I have read and re-read the user manual but no matter how hard I pull I cannot remove the wires to be able to replace the bulb. I have even tried bypassing this part of the manual and unclipping the retaining wire bracket, but still cannot get to remove it as the plastic plug is covered in a rubber seal. Any advice please?

Hi. Would anyone be able to tell me please how many kilometres on average it`s possible to travel in my Nissan Note when the petrol light comes on? I do long trips often so it would be really handy to know. I had thought that my Note was 1500cc’s but am not at home to check. Thanks very much.

My Nissan Note will not start at all. I have owned the car for over a year and never had a problem. When I turn the key in the ignition it just clicks with no ignition start up at all. The headlights and central locking are all functional and working. I had a jump start, turned it on the first attempt, ran the engine for two hours` driving and parked. When I went out to move the car from the drive it was dead again, although the headlights and central locking etc were all working fine. I am on holiday visiting my family just now. Is this a recovery job or an easy fix? I read about installation procedure after battery installation in my manual, should I try this after another jump start?

Can anyone advise me of how I can tell if the auto box is reaching top gear when set in drive mode as I seem to be using a lot of fuel. When driving at a constant 30mph the rev counter is around 2,000 rpm, is this normal? It’s giving me a return of around 25 mpg at the moment. I haven’t had the vehicle long and to me it seems to need another gear so the revs drop and hence use less fuel. Any advice? (1.6 auto)
Answers
Hello Mark, the NOTE auto box does not change into 4th (top) gear until the speed reaches about 42mph. If you are accelerating hand, it will hold 3rd gear up to about 48/50mph. When you reach about 42mph, back off the accelerator and 4th gear will engage. 25mph is very low. I achieve about 35mpg around town and up to 45mpg on a run. Hope this helps - Christopher Lee from Bedfordshire

Having selected gear 1 on the auto box then going down steep incline is it normal for the car to then select and change into gear 2 on its own? Does the gearbox/engine sense that it has reached optimum speed for gear 1 and change into gear 2? It seems weird because if I select gear 1 I want gear 1 and I assume this is a fault. I only became owner of this vehicle 2 days ago and have no experience of driving an automatic car, please help. Thanks. (1.6 auto)
Answers
Mark, when you select 1st in your auto, it should stay locked in 1st until you select either 2nd or D. If it is changing into 2nd, you seem to have a fault. On the same point, unless the hill is really really steep! Just leave it in drive and use your brakes, brake pads are cheaper than a new auto box! With a basic auto box like the Note, just leave it in D and enjoy it. I have an auto Note and also a steptronic BMW, so I have good experience of both types of auto boxes. Hope this helps - Gary Satterthwaite from Cumberland

One morning, 2 weeks ago, it plain wouldn’t start, no turnover just dead. Bought new battery, jumped old one and drove to mechanic who was due to service it the following Monday anyway. He serviced it, replaced brakes at back, said something about manifold head and spark plugs then said when he turned it back on it revved in idle ’hunting’ and would not reset itself as expected. Changed throttle body and still nothing. He had it a week before handing it to main dealer and they too have had a it a week running ’diagnostics’ as they say but still don’t know problem. ’Suspect’ wiring loom but can’t say which one without more searching. How much b****y searching do they need to do, they have had a week!!!!!! Thinking back to when I drove to the mechanic with it after jumping, the ABS and skid dash sign were on and the steering wheel kept snatching left and right and failing so perhaps abs ecu unit (seen that on forums). I am desperate for this to be sorted and am imagining massive bills from a main dealer. Anyone???? (sve)

Do in daylight. Not in the dark when bulb is likely to need to be changed. Need to pinch the wire bands together and remove before pulling and twisting off your hand will be on the right item but you may not be able to see it line up your hand against the bulb front - not back. It takes seconds to fit the bulb and refit. I had great difficulty removing but once I could see it properly and went for it. It was easy - Helen from Staffordshire

My Nissan Note has suffered from a fault code PO171 which turns the warning light on frequently, usually on the return journey after a 60mph+ journey, not usually during shorter slower journeys. When the light is on, the engine control goes open loop and the idle speed is above 1,000rpm. When the light is off, the idle is normal at 800rpm. I reset the code myself with an OBD2 device. An oxygen sensor was replaced a year ago and the mass air flow sensor 6 months ago (unnecessarily). Resisted going to Nissan dealer to avoid multiple new spare part experiments at my expense. Anyone seen this? (Acenta)

My Note has had the oxygen sensor replaced twice, first at around 6,000 miles again at just over 13,000, the cost out of warranty was £245. Has anyone else had this problem? I got the impression from both garages that this was a common problem.
Answers
I had one replaced under warrenty and have just had another at 22,000 miles. Since this latest one, the digital mpg now reads approx 39 mpg, it was previously about 48 with 52 on journeys. Just wondering if it could be the readout that’s wrong or am I really using more petrol? Any replies would be appreciated. Regards - Robert Bowers from Northamptonshire
You don’t state the age of your car but judging by the mileage, it’s not so old. EU legislation states that all vehicle manufacturers have to honour a FIVE-YEAR warranty for "emission related" components. The oxygen sensor is at the heart of the exhaust after-treatment system therefore it is covered. If the dealer doesn’t know this (many don’t), be firm and ask them to contact your vehicle brand’s general agent in your country for confirmation - Eddy H from Buckinghamshire

Yes, you can use it. Anyone know how to get the tail gate open on a Note where the electrics to the back door switch have failed? Need to open the door to repair the wiring harness. A common fault on the Note it seems! (SE DCi 1.5 Diesel)
Answers
Well heard nothing more so far from the main dealer so I thought I would have a look. Climbed in the back from the rear doors, removed parcel shelf and levered read door panel off with plastic lever. No damage to clips, amazing! located the lock and it had 4 white wires going to it, any colour you want as long as it's white! No trace colours at all. Oh well lets see if I can get it open, prodded wires with meter probe and other end to earth. had to use wires further up as on lock end very tight with big hands. Found a 12 volt wire, found 3 0v wires but not direct to earth some ohms, so basically fed the 12 volts to the others in turn and locked clanged open! Oh Joy! Spent the rest of the afternoon undoing the wiring bodge the dealers had previously done and all works once again. and people moan about French wiring? Looking elsewhere on this site I notice the Micra exhibits the same problem, obviously a design fault and I wonder if "fit for purpose"! I can see why Wessex Garages were shy of it, after all I only paid £500 for the warranty why should they expect to sort it out for me. I'm supposed to get repairs upto £5000 on that waranty to Quote" A new loom is £500 we won't get them to pay that"! So why did I pay £500 for it, supposed to be the best, just a rip off. I've already had the trading standards in to see them when I bought it with misleading ads. Seems to be give us your money and go away! Ah well up and running again with a wiper that works and a tail gate that opens! Hooray! :) John Swale from Gloucestershire

My boot lock has failed. Pressing the button has no effect. I was driving the car when the "door open" light came on. Upon investigation, the boot lock was half-undone, neither properly locked nor properly opened. I pushed it shut. Now the button on the boot does not open the lock. What has gone wrong and how can it be fixed?
Answers
Not sure if this is the case with yours, my rear wiper failed, took it to the garage who say that’s quite common. Wires break through opening and closing the tail gate, inside the rubber boot on the top right hand side as you look at it. The garage is doing a couple these coming few weeks and will let me know how successful they are. Second time on mine it seems, as a repair had already been done before I purchased it. Anyway bought the car home and my boot won’t open, not a click so I guess that has been disturbed and the wire now broken as well for boot lock. Could just be your problem as well - John Swale from Gloucestershire
I've sorted mine and it was crap wires going brittle and snapping. No one ever told Nissan copper work hardens? I replaced short lengths with a flexible wire I bought from Maplins - John Swale from Gloucestershire

Has anyone experienced a problem with the throttle sensor on the Note? This has happened to me three times in the past year and the same problem is occurring again. All power to the throttle is lost for a few seconds and the red warning light comes on but then it recovers and is okay until finally it fails completely. At what mileage should the timing belt be changed on my ’07 diesel Note? Thank you if you can help.
Answers
They don’t have a belt, they are chain driven. Problem solved - Andrew Simmons from Lancashire
Erm, I’ve just paid £400 to have my timing belt changed by the main dealer. They told me five years or 70,000 miles and mine was five years. Mine’s a 2006 SE DCi. Is that any help? First of all, the dealer told me it didn’t have one. It does! - John Swale from Gloucestershire

Passenger-side rear seat does not bend forward but d/s backseat does. Anyone have same problem? Also, has anyone removed rear seat and if so, instructions please.
Answers
Hi. Yes, I have had this problem. Removed the seat and investigated. The cable actuating the release clip is too long and needs shortening. Unfortunately I have been too busy to address this. I am considering trying to insert a kink somehow to effectively shorten the cable, it only needs a tiny bit. Seat is easily removed - access two bolts under seat at front, after removing plastic covers, easily broken so take care, push seat back to access. And two in boot push seat fully forward to access. I believe end grips on cable crimped too far apart. Otherwise a great car, have averaged 36 mpg overall on 1.6 automatic, 33 on local journeys to 44 on long journeys, fairly happy with that on old fashioned but nice, torque converter type transmission. Mine is 2006 so perhaps later cables are shorter - Brian C from Surrey

In the past fortnight, I have had trouble starting my car on two occasions. What could be possible cause and is this a generic problem with model?
Answers
Hi. We had a similar experience. I suggest that you may have previously started the engine from cold and then switched it off after only a short time period. The auto choke would have injected fuel into the cold engine, the engine turned off and the spark plugs are fouled. You just have to wait until the fuel has evaporated inside the cylinders. Or turn the engine over without depressing the accelerator pedal until it fires. It also occurs on similar engined Renaults! We now always leave the engine to warm a little before turning it off and no further fault has occured - Bernard Hunt from Staffordshire

Despite following the instructions in the manual (undoing 2 bolts etc) I have been unable to remove the light cluster cover in order to renew a brake light. I rang the dealer who said a lot of people have problems and they would book me in and do the job for me - obviously at a price. As this is just a bulb change I simply refuse to have to resort to a garage. I am sure that if I have problems other individuals will also have suffered in the same way. Any solutions folks?

Just had my "Note" a few weeks now and my son who works in Halfords was smugly telling me how you "undo the two bolts and give it a tap towards the rear of the car", BUT why not go to your nearest Halfords, ask for an assistant, tell them the bulbs "gone" could you get the lens off for me and replace the bulb? Bruce Duncan from Yorkshire
Yes, just move the cluster back half and inch when the bolts are out. Nissan aren’t helpful - Jim Tyrer from Lancashire
I also had trouble removing lens after reading handbook. I rang me nearest Nissan dealer and they told me to bring it along, which I did and they removed it and inserted the new bulb, no charge! They commented that it is sometimes awkward to remove - Susie Sheridan from Essex

What is the difference btween the Acenta and the N-Tec?
Answers
The N-Tec is an Acenta with a few extras, such as Nissan Connect as standard, esp, silver finish door handles, silver front spoiler finisher, climate control aircon. I find it to be worth the little extra over the Acenta model as it’s really a Tekna without the silly bits i.e. part leather seats, slippery alloy pedals, electrically folding mirrors (whoopee do) and a parking sensor that you can barely hear. Oh yeah, it has privacy glass and 16" alloys too, where the Acenta only has 15" wheels. It’s an odd tyre size though, a 185/85/16 which is only manufactured by Continental. Hope this has been some help to you - Sneaky Elephant from Middlesex

I was quite surprised to see the tyre pressure for the Nissan note, especially the rear tyres, being so high compared to other cars that I have had. The rear being 42lbs and front 34lbs, with the car fully loaded. Is this correct? (1.4 Accenta)

The clutch pedal clicks every time I shift and let the clutch out. The dealer says it is not a problem, but my car did not do this when new. Any ideas why this may be?
Answers
Check if your Note has a cable operated clutch, if so there may be a ratchet pawl (cheese shaped wedge) of the nylon variety, these tend to loose a tooth and you get a click on letting the clutch in or out eventually followed by complete failure ie: foot goes to floor clutch will not engage/disengage nothing wrong with clutch itself, just this fivers worth of plastic. Had this problem on Transits a few years ago, easy to fix - Simon Watson from Ceredigion
Whatever the problem, Nissan say it is not a problem and if it is they say... WELL that’s what the car does - Jim Tyrer from Lancashire
No, it is not right, the tyre pressures on my Ntec+ are 34 PSI front and 31 PSI rear - Spence Fleetwood from Cheshire

Please can anyone tell me if the gearbox on the auto Note is a CVT? As I am disabled this is the only gearbox I can use and the micra was fine but Nissan no longer put this gear box in them. Thank you in advance.
Answers
The gearbox in an automatic Nissan note is actually a 4 speed gearbox but from a drivers point of view it works in the same way as the CVT auto box in a Nissan Micra ie you put the lever in to the ’D’ position to go forward and press the accelerator pedal to move off. It’s as easy as that. There are no paddles on the steering wheel to make any manual selections of the gears. It will be just like driving a Micra - Bill Howe from England

I am considering ordering a new Nissan Note where the seats push forward. I need to ask if a small scooter will fit in the boot without pushing the back seats fully forward?
Answers
Julie, I have recently taken delivery of a new Note 1.5dci N-Tec on the Motability scheme. If you’re referring to a Mobility scooter, then I’m not sure if it will fit with the rear seats in the rearmost position, that may be asking too much. However, with them pushed forward a scooter will easily fit and rear passengers will still have better legroom than the majority of cars can provide. I hope this answers your question, and can definitely say that the Note is a great car! If you are getting one on the Motability, I suggest you go for the N-Tec as it has all the kit (satnav, esp etc) without requiring a deposit! Happy motoring - Sneaky Elephant from Middlesex
I found that folding the half seat forward flat allowed my dad’s scooter to fit nicely when I lifted it in. A rear seat passenger could still sit alongside. There may be room for a hoist on the opposite rear of the boot although the parcel shelf would have to be omitted - Roger from Huntingdonshire
