On my Nissan Micras dashboard the sports word is flashing and does not go off. I have been driving it for a few years and this has come on suddenly. In the manual it says check if the sports switch is on. Any ideas where is the sports switch?

Tanith Snow, Yorkshire

Nissan Micra 2005

My Nissan Micra lost all power when I was driving.. I then pushed it off and it started again. A few days later the engine management came on. It has not cut out since (one week later) but the light is still on. Can anyone help? I`ve been told it could be the timing chain. It only has 71,000 on the clock and surely the timing chain should not have gone?

Answers

Hi Tanith, I have just purchased a 1.2 s micra which has had had the timing chain replaced at 85,000 miles. The symptons you are seeing could just be the faulty sensor, but I fear it will be the timing chain. This is a costly job so pick your garage to carry out the repairs carefully. Nissan Micra 2003

Hi. I`m purchasing a Nissan Micra 2003 which is smoking when accelerating but not at idle. Any ideas? Cheers.

Answers

My guess would be that when accelerating hard the engine is drawing air/fuel mixture in with great suction. This suction is also drawing oil up from the crankcase/sump into the cylinders. This would indicate worn piston rings in one or more cylinders (or other route for the oil to pass, caused by wear or damage). When at idle, the suction is much more gentle and is not pulling so much oil into the combustion cylinders. If this is true, the smoke would be the product of burning engine oil. Is the engine oil dropping gradually? Jay Deen from Yorkshire

Hi there. My wife drove her Nissan Micra to work this morning. After work she tried to get in the car but the fob didn`t work. She rang me so I took down our spare key but it was the same with the spare key. I got in the car through the passenger door and there was a clicking noise coming from behind the glove box and the immobliser light was flashing. When I turned the key there was nothing there. If I kept the key turned the immobliser light would fade. Is it as simple as a flat battery or am I in trouble? Thanks.

Hi, can anyone please explain how I can remove my Nissan Micra`s front headlights, so I can clean the condensation which is inside? The clips are very hard to remove. Is it possible for me to do this instead of taking it to a garage which will cost me £300 each for them to replace them? Thanks.

Answers

Are you sure it is condensation. The reason I ask is because I thought the same on a 2004 SX I have recently bought as a runaround. It was not condensation it was clouding of the outside surface of the headlamp. I purchased a L20 headlamp restore kit from Halfords and it worked a treat. This kit involves wet sanding the surface with four different graded sand paper followed by a final polish. The final result speaks for itself David Miles from Northumberland

My Nissan Micra`s gears will not go through. I have had 2 mechanics telling me it`s the master clutch cylinder leaking and it is inside the gearbox. I need to confirm if it`s true this is in the gearbox or outside. I don’t like fiddling with the gearbox unneccesarily. The other says it`s not in the gearbox. The brake fluid has all gone and I saw the leak under the gearbox on both sides. I put my Nissan Micra through it`s MOT and the mechanic said that the airbag warning light was showing a fault. When I checked it later on I turned the ignition on and the light came on for about seven seconds then went out again. This is what has happened every time I`ve checked. Could anyone tell me if this is normal or is it showing a fault like the mechanic said?

Answers

Have you checked the connector going in to the air bag box. Check the connections could just need a clean. I think it is located under stereo on gearbox tunnel in front of ECU. Also check for wetness Nicola Conroy from Rhondda Cynon Taff

It’s normal. If it stays on when the engine is running then it’s at fault. So nothing to worry about SAH from Surrey

I had my Nissan Micra`s full power steering system replaced last year and it cost me £1.350 for the new one. My problem first started with wobbling and then a total loss of power steering. Since this power steering has now occured will I get a refund on the money I spent unnecessarily on the steering? I have always owned a Nissan car such as the Primera and the Bluebird and Tino but never experienced a problem like this before. I have been a loyal customer for 22 years. I have always believed that there was an issue with the power steering because, according to my research, many Micra customers have had the same problem with steering and power steering. I believe I have paid unnecessarily for the repair when there has been always a fault in the steering from the beginning. I am now experiencing that wobbling once again. Can anyone advise please? Thank you.

Answers

Hi there, I myself had purchased a Nissan Micra 1.4 se just recently. Apparently the wobbling in the steering wheel was a factory issue. When the cars were manufactured the steering bolt was never tightened and according to this the steering could have easily come off in your hand. A letter came through my post regarding the call back on all Nissan Micras from 2005 onwards and now has been rectified. A whole lot better. I hope this helped. My Nissan Micra 1.4 2005 has 129,000 km’s currently. It started cutting out when idling, has mis-fired twice and is jerking whilst driving. I had a diagnostic test done whereby I was advised the problem is the throttle body, I took it to another garage who did another two diagnostic tests and this time it showed no errors at all. I have subsequently done a major service on the car yet am still experiencing the same problem. Please can anybody advise me?

Answers

Check and clean idle control valve, throttle body. Maybe the pipes from the air box to manifold. These get clogged up and the engine does not breath tidy. Carb cleaner will do the job Nicola Conroy from Rhondda Cynon Taff

The boot of our Nissan Micra is locked. It sometimes releases whilst we are driving and a notice on the dashboard tells us that the tailgate is open. Yet once we have shut it again it stays locked. The battery is draining down if unused for a few days. We have only recently replaced the battery and the car has been regularly serviced by a Nissan dealer. We have now become very wary of putting anything in the boot, as we`re unsure whether we will be able to get it open again. Can anybody advise what might be wrong? (1.4 SVE)

My Nissan Micra has been cutting out when I slow down or change to a lower gear. Normally I can just restart it, but it happened while I was driving 30mph in third gear on a roundabout and I’m nervous about driving it now. There is no warning, just revs drop and it starts slowing down. Any suggestions what the problem is?

Answers

Hi Laura. I have a 2004 Micra 1.2 S and experienced the same problem. Mine was cutting out at junctions and roundabouts - as you take your foot off of the accelerator and declutch right? Well I had mine serviced which made no difference. After doing some research I found that a common problem with the Micra is the Throttle Body. This sits between the air intake and the engine and acts as a kind of carburettor - mixing the fuel and air before entering the engine. Anyway had the throttle body changed, which contains the mass flow meter and sensors and the problem has gone, no stalling, smooth running and good performance. My problem now is that the diagnostic light is on and my fuel consumption is attrocious. Needs something else I think! Be aware though the throttle body solved my problem but this is not a cheap option - cost me around £350!! Do look also at engine coolant sensor and coil packs but I would lay money on it being the throttle body. Hope this helps! Derek Mansell from Norfolk
