Hi, my engine light came on so I took the car to my garage. He put the computer on it and was very confused when it came up with a code for a transmission switch. My car is manual. He cleared the code as he couldn't find anything wrong, the car drives fine. The code came on again so I took it back. The same code had come up again and he said some other incorrect codes came up and he cleared them all. The engine light came on again so he is going to research it. Do you have any idea what this could be? The car makes no noises and drives really well. Many thanks

My 02 micra has got a very stiff clutch pedal. It is that stiff that the cable snapped and after I replaced it the clutch pedal broke away from the bulkhead. I repaired this by drilling through the bulkhead and bolting the pedal assembly back on. This worked but my clutch was still stiff so I messed about with the adjustments again but it remained stiff and again my cable has snapped. Has anyone got any ideas why the clutch is so stiff. Cheers.

hi there, yesterday I ran into the back of another car . Car in front had stopped and I was perhaps travelling at around 10 miles per hour, could only see some damage to her passenger rear wing, but nothing really compared to mine. My Nissan looks a mess to me, certainly the bonnet the bumper, the grill, one of the headlights and the radiator coolant leaked out. I know you cant see the damage but I just wondered whether they will repair it or write it of, I would hope they can repair it, do you have any knowledge on a car repairers ability to restore front end bumps or whether they will write it off. I suffered no whiplash felt nothing really and the airbag did not go off. Doors unaffected and the car started fine. Do you know a what point they would most certainly write a car off? many thanks Ros

I have a 2000 plate micra celebration with 65,000 miles on the clock It's my first car since passing my test and it's great just to take the kids out and all that. Anyway this is my problem and hoping some wee smart cookie could help me out ?? Changing gear seems to get increasingly difficult. If the car hasn't been anywhere it's quite easy but if I've been for a drive it seems to get harder. Also since I've had the car the gear stick won't return to the centre when in neutral, if I move it to the left or right it will stay there. So it seems to be the hotter and more used the car gets the more difficult it is to change gear.

Answers

The K11 shape micras have a Universal joint that can be accessed from under the car once you drop the exhaust heatshield down, If you are lucky it may be salvageable via lots of W/D40 and moving the selector into all the gears and hope it frees up, if that is unsuccessful it could require a new U/J and possibly the springs that centre the selector, You may find the Heat shield could be missing already, due to corrosion of the heatshield or the car being previously ground out, people regularly take them off as an easy fix but do not replace them, which would explain why it gets harder to move on longer journeys, If it is missing it is advisable to try and find a replacement. My 97 Micra shakes violently above 35 mph. The problem started at a higher speed, but got lower. Steering wheel shakes and whole car vibrates. My mechanic thought it was the gear box, but we've changed that and the shake is still there. Mechanic has tried all obvious causes. Any ideas?

Answers

My K11 does something very similar, mine is the engine stabilizer, Due to the oxygen sensor on the manifold not heating up, Thus making the car extremely hard to keep running in the cold, I would recommend that, also would be an idea to get the wheel balance checked on All 4 wheels. Hope this helps. Guesst from Kent

I have a Nissan Micra/March, 2006 model, it has been moving quite well until it started dragging (failing to pull as expected) and then pick up after some few minutes. Recently the engine started vibrating and humming. I changed the petrol pump, it worked and performed perfectly well for 5 km and then went back to dragging and failing to accelerate, even if I push down the gas pedal. Also the engine sound was not so smooth. Could it be the pump or the filter? Is there a way of cleaning the petrol filter system? This filter system is expensive to replace where I am. Thanks in advance.

Nissan Micro urbis registered April 2005 Coming up for it's 10th birthday/mot Should I get the timing chain/belt changed. Car has 55,000 on the clock. Am sure I read somewhere to change it on 10th year or 100,000 miles, whichever came first Also, anyone have any idea of the costs involved? With thanks, K

Answers

I know that on the K11 Micras it is pretty much a throw away job, either buy a new engine or scrap, strip the car for spares, It cost a lot of money to have it changed, if you do get the head gasket done at the same time other wise if the head gasket goes you will have to get Another timing chain kit for it. Guesst from Kent

Hello Guesst from Kent, Thank you for your response. I've asked a few people, all giving advice that if no rattling noises when driving, then it should be ok. A local garage said approx £200 to change timing chain but you are talking about the engine and scrapping the car. It is in good condition at moment and I'm hoping to get a couple more years out of it. Local garage said to me - doesn't have timing belt, has chain, doesn't need changing BUT should change cam belt. I thought they were one and the same thing. Luckily, my uncle is going to accompany me to the garage for mot. Are you saying that the engine costs a lot of money to change, or the timing chain? Thanks so much for any further info you are able to share with me! Most garages have said to me that micros go on and on......it's got just under 55,000 mileage so I've been told it's virtually new!! Ha ha ha if only that were true. Car has had new batty, clutch and 4 new tyres in last 2 years. Have never had to spend on it before. It's worth more to me on the road than to sell or part-ex, can't afford new car! With thanks, Kim KTH from Derbyshire

It may be a different story on the K12s but I know the K11s are expensive to change the chain. They may be on about the auxiliary belt needs changing, which is pretty normal and cheap, easy to replace. As for the chain I would just listen for any tapping as that is an early sign that it is on its way out and yes, they do go on for ages, they are forgiving little cars when it comes to general maintenance. I've seen ones running "fine" on less then half a litre of oil. For a little example of how long the timing chains will last for my daily driver has 68,000 miles. That's an X reg (2001) one with the original chain. My other one is an 02 plate, only got it last week and that needs an auxiliary belt and an oil and filter change, it's currently only got 1 litre of oil in it and the filters going rotten, last recorded oil change was in 2009. So as reliability goes, Micras will carry on for a long time. Guesst from Kent

How do you remove a front door card (door panel) on a 2005 (55 plate) Nissan Micra 1.2L Sport+ to replace the nearside door mirror? I cannot see any screws or bolts at all. The door handle has a chrome plated plastic trim that easily pulls off - but again I cannot see any screws or covers hiding any screws or bolts to remove it. Surely there has to be a way of undoing the door handle mechanism first to release the door card from the door. I know there must be clips along the bottom and up the sides of the door card, but I don't want to pull the panel away from the door yet and put a strain on the handle mechanism.

My Micra has now covered 134,000 miles, it is running ok. At this mileage should I change the main and big end bearings? We do this with trucks at work that do high miles, can I do this with the engine still in place? Thank you.

Answers

To be fair if the engine is still all working fine, has no taps or knocks then your best bet is just to leave it till they actually need them, as the engine will have to be removed on the K11s and K12s, if they need doing be sure to do the head gasket and timing chain at the same time, but generally speaking these cars carry on for a very long time.
