When driving at speeds of 50-60 MPH my Nissan Micra starts to get hot over my feet and there is a ticking sound. Does anyone know why?

I have a 2007 Nissan Micra SR 160 (1.6 petrol Manual) with the ABS and head brake warning lights on. I have been told that I need a new ABS unit but the part numbers I have been given from the old unit are not recognised when I look for them on the various spare parts sites. The part numbers I have been given are XXXXXXXXXX and 47660BC42A. Does anyone recognise these numbers? Where can I get them and are there alternatives, because I haven’t been able to source these specific part numbers myself? Many thanks. (1.6sr sport)

We have an intermittent fault with our Nissan Micra (S 06 1240cc petrol 3 door). After about 20 miles it starts to lose power. It feels like the car is slowing down and then speeding up again and the car will then slow to a stop, even though the engine is still revving. The AA ruled out the clutch and do not think it is the electrics as they checked it with their computer. The car was serviced and had an MOT in March, but this problem began at the start of April and again at the start of May. The garage cannot find what the problem is. Can anyone please help as the car is not reliable enough to use? (S 1240cc petrol 3 door)

When I press my Nissan Micra`s accelerator, the car refuses to go more than 25 miles. It makes a sound when I press it to go further. The transmission selector level light sometimes comes on at night, then goes off. On three separate occasions I had to move the selector level to 2 for it to move, as it had refused to move in drive. Any suggestions please?

My Nissan Micra`s battery is drained on an intermittent basis. When it has been recharged everything is okay for a time but then the problem reoccurs. Does anyone have any idea why this should be? (Keyless)
Answers
My 2003 Nissan Micra had the same problem several months ago. If I didn’t drive it for a day or so the battery would be totally dead when I next tried to start it up. Once it had been jump started it was fine and as long as I drove it everyday there wasn’t a problem. When I took the car in for a service the garage told me that the battery terminal had come loose so it wasn’t holding a charge, they fixed it and fingers crossed, it all seems okay again now. So it could be a loose battery terminal, just a suggestion - Bev from Cheshire

My Nissan Micra seems to have an intermittent fault. The speedometer stops working and at the same time the abs and brake management lights come on. Eventually they go off and the speedometer starts working again. I took it to the garage and they couldn’t find a fault but now it`s happened again. I have only had the car a fortnight. Can anyone help please? (Acenta)

Hi Helen. I’m afraid I can’t answer your question but I can sympathise with you as my 2003 Nissan Micra is doing exactly the same thing and it’s been doing it for about 4 weeks now. I’ve had a local garage look at it and a mobile mechanic and no-one knows what it is. I’ve been told it will be a process of elimination and so far I’ve had 2 things replaced on the car including an ABS Sensor but nothing has worked yet!! It’s costing a lot of money and it’s frustrating! Apparantly even Nissan wouldn’t know what was wrong with it... great hey?!! Sorry I can’t help but if you do get to the bottom of it it would be great to hear what the problem might be! Fingers crossed someone out there might have an idea - Lizzy from Cheshire

As I start my Nissan Micra up in the morning the revs become very low (500) and it starts to judder, basically it feels like it is going to stall. One day I was approaching a zebra crossing and stopped and it just stalled on me. Then again after shopping for 2 hours I came back to the car and started to drive it and approached a junction and it stalled again. Any ideas what the problem could be? Many thanks

Hi. I have recently purchased a secondhand Nissan Micra S, 53 plate. With the spare wheel there is a plastic guard holding it in the boot. It says in the manual to twist anti-clockwise, and it will release the spare tyre. Do you need a tool to do this as I have tried twisting it and it won’t budge? The spare is underinflated and I need to pump it up before making a long journey. Cheers. (Auto S)

My Nissan Micra convertible (2008 reg) has a leak on the driver`s side and water is gathering inside the seal at the door. Water does not seem to come in when it`s raining but seeps in following rainfall and drips into the car, soaking the driver’s seat. The seals have been replaced but it`s still happening. The garage keeps water testing and saying it’s not leaking, but I don’t think they can replicate rainfall that has been falling for hours. It seems like a drainage issue to me. Any ideas on what to do to fix the problem?
Answers
I have a Nissan Micra Convertible (58 reg) which has exactly the same problem. I bought it second hand last year and within 3 weeks it leaked in. I thas been back to the dealership on a number of occasions, the seals have been replaced and it made no difference. I thought the fault was more to do with the window not fitting tightly enough and told them this on the third occasion they had it back. They did something to the door and tightened it up, the door was difficult to open but the leak seemed to have gone. I returned the car in January this year to the dealer for its service and they must have done something to the door, as it was easier to open when i got it back. Needless to say the leak returned the next time we had persistent rain. As you say it doesn’t seem to leak in no matter how heavy the rain is if it only lasts for a short while, but if its persistent and lasts all day the seat is soaked. The car was back in yesterday to be looked at again and they said they have done something to the door to ensure the seal is tighter around the window so we will see if that works. Its definitely not the rubber seal on the roof though as mine has also been replaced and it made no difference whatsoever. I’d ask about tightening the door to make it more flush to the seal and see if that helps. Just hope it works this time!!! Denise Scott from Durham

Hi all. I have had a 2001 Nissan Micra 2001 for just over a year. When I bought it, it had just had an MOT and the Malfunction Indictaor light was on steady, but the MOT stated that the cause of this was not found and the car drove okay so I just left it. I have just had a full service and MOT done where I had a new throttle body fitted, oil change and the rest (windscreen wipers and two new front tyres). The malfunction indicator has been alternately flashing for short periods and then on steadily this week and in low gears the car is juddering - when it gets to about 25 mph the juddering seems to stop. After slowing down or stopping that seems to be when the malfunction indictor will be flashing for maybe 10 seconds and then it goes steady. Since it has turned back on it hasn`t gone off. The car has had new exhaust boxes fitted approx 6 months ago. Does any one have any ideas what this might be? I am coming close to having spent more to fix the car over the last year than it cost me to buy so any ideas will be much appreciated.

Hi all. I have owned a Nissan Micra for a year and have just had a service and MOT carried out. Before the service the car would drive very slowly unless it had been idling for about 5 minutes. A new throttle body has been fitted and now it starts straight away. However, it now "judders" when getting up to 25 mph and in the first two gears and the malfunction indicator light has come on. The malfunction light occasionally flashes for approx 20 seconds then comes on steady - the car drives more smoothly when it`s on steady. When I bought the car, this light was on and I was told that diagnostics were not conclusive and the car drove fine at first so I ignored it. I am wondering if anyone knows what the matter could be now, since it has gone off for a week and come back on? Since buying the car it has also had a complete new exhaust system fitted, so I am reluctant to spend more money on it if it is falling apart or if it is going to be an expensive job to sort out. Can anyone help? Many thanks.

Problem solved. There was a single filament bulb fitted instead of a double filament bulb thus causing brake lights to be on when headlights switched on. The car thought it was breaking therefore reduced fuel going into the engine, thus power lost - Liz from England

I bought a used 2003 Micra almost 2 years ago. I took it to get serviced 2 days ago and apparently the guy was telling me that the bulb for the ABS indicator light on the dashboard wasn’t there and for him to fix it he would have to replace the whole thing and that’ll cost more than 450 euros. PS light came on this morning and power steering failed. Within minutes it returned to normal and PS returned and drove fine. Could this be the start of PS failure?

This has happened to my 2004 Micra twice. 1st time the PS completely went and cost me almost £1500 (apparently you have to have brand new parts for PS). This time it’s intermittent and my partner thinks it’ll need replacing... less than 1 year after having a new one. How do you remove the interior light? I tried to remove it as shown in the Owners Handbook but it didn’t come off as shown and is now loose. The handbook appears to contradict in other areas as well (e.g. to collapse rear seats is only possible from within the boot not from catches on the top of the rear seats).

I recently changed the battery in my Nissan Micra and the car started with no problems at all. I’m no expert but had a similar problem with my Nissan Micra. The car would start but then when I turned on the lights, the car would stop. Also the central locking wouldn’t work and I had to get into the car via the passenger door. Got jump started 3 times but then after a few minutes the same thing would happen. Got a new battery but it still happened. Turned out it was the alternator, I got it reconditioned and no more problems since and that was two years ago now. You could try and disconect the alarm sounder unit itself as is located at rear of car (driver’s side) near the boot. If it has gas struts to support the boot lid it sounds like the gas struts (or one of them) have failed... You can get them on the internet cheaper than from Nissan... I have recently had to replace my daughter’s on her Urbiss c+c and bought them from SGS engineering online... Remember to replace both, not just the one that is failing as all too often the new one will make the old one go in a very short time. Hope this helps - Adrian Patterson

The catch on the back of the passenger seat (to lower the back of the seat to allow passengers to access the back seats) has ceased to work. It looks as though the cable/wire has come adrift of the catch. Is it simply a cased of taking the seat apart and re-attaching the cable/wire or does it need a new cable/wire? Thanks for any help. Am not sure but this could be the anti-hijack function. Depending on exactly what model you have there could be an anti-hijack mechanism. This would mean you have the option of only opening the driver door with the fob or fully opening all doors with the fob central locking function. It may be the car warning you that the passenger doors are also open. Have a check of your owners manual - Kevin Brigden from Lancashire

The front windscreen wipers keep not working but it is intermittent. Sometimes you get in the car and turn them on and they are fine and the next day turn them on and there is nothing, no movement or noise, then the next day working again. It seems to be bad when it is cold and sometimes you can get them to work by pulling the wipers around a bit which makes me think it could be a connection problem but strange that you can do nothing and then it works one day and not the next. Took it to the garage and they said they had fixed it after paying £100 but when I got home turned them on and nothing. Took it back and they got it working but same thing now keeps happening. All fuses are fine. There was some dirt and a bit of moss growing near the axis of the wiper connection but we cleared that out. Any suggestions as it is really inconvenient not being able to go out if there is a chance of rain but don’t want to pay the garage to not fix it again. Thanks, Victoria.

Hi Wendy, my mum just purchased the new Nissan Micra and has the same problem. The dealer here says it’s not meant to clear the window. I believe it’s a fault and a hazard as you can’t see out your window! - Lorna Mclurg from County Antrim

I had constant problems with the immobiliser, so I have now removed all of the wires that were associated with it (that was the easy bit). But I can’t start the car as the alarm light is still activating on and flashing with the door. I have seen how patches can be made up to insert into the alarm module and I have a spare one of those, but all images and descriptions on the internet do not match the wiring colours that I have. Ollie, I own a 2006 Micra 1.2. There is always a noise from the gear linkage when changing gear, basically as you describe it. Recently had a loan of a newly registered 1,000 mile on the clock model when mine was serviced and didn’t really notice much of a difference. Think it’s just the design of the linkages that causes this and I honestly think your sales person is telling you the truth. There’s no doubt that the gearbox and quality of the change is the car’s weak link but you’ll soon forget all about it when you accept it is not actually a fault - Frank from Scotland
