I have a Nissan Micra 53 plate, the engine management light came on so I took it to a garage and had a new camshaft sensor put on. The light is still on and I have been now told it needs a new cam chain. Has anybody else had this problem? I`m not sure whether to have the cam chain replaced as it`s expensive £600.

I`m trying to establish why my 59 plate Micra has the square/bigger wing manual mirrors in matt back, rather than the smaller ones. I`ve recently bought the car so am unsure of any facelifts. Also according to the reg she`s a k12. Would a 2010 one fit or even a Nissan Note mirror that looks very much identical? I`m really confused.

Hi, recently I`ve changed the alternator and I started the car and it works but my indicator, radio, start lights don't work. What should I do?

If the car started up it sounds to me like a blown fuse, you may have shorted it out while changing it, there are 2 fuse boxes, one under the bonnet near the battery and the other is inside under the steering wheel on the right hand side. Guesst from Kent

When starting my Nissan Micra 54 plate, the oil light is taking approx 15-20 seconds to go out. It never comes back on or flickers whilst driving, only upon starting. I have changed the oil, the oil filter and the pressure switch but still no luck!! The oil level is fine. I am puzzled!! Any similar experience or answer to the problem will be greatly appreciated! No rattle to the engine and car is driving fine, has been happening for approx 6 weeks now. Thank you. It is a diesel car.

The hazard switch keeps sticking. Have obtained a replacement switch (includes the heater/demister switch) but not sure how to remove old switches and replace. I can see there it just clips in but note sure how to access from the rear in order to release clips. Can you help please? Is there a relatively easy way without removing dashboard etc! I do have a very clever mechanically minded husband but even he is not sure how to change over (no hints from Haynes Manual)! Many thanks Helen

Answers

You need to get a small screw driver between the outer casing edge and the actual Dash board, once in lever it out carefully so as not to damage the dash board, then they just unplug. Guesst from Kent

I have a k13 micra and have owned it for two years with no problems but recently I have been hearing water or fluid of some kind flowing from Side to side in the dashboard, is there anything in dash that contains fluid. It's not coming from the engine compartment where the air vents are next to the wipers because I have checked for water and this is clear, I am wondering if it's anything to do with the air conditioning, any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

How to fix the handbrake on Nissan Micra t.plate

Answers

Could be a number of things, being more specific would help, Do you know what is broken or do you just need to adjust it? Primary adjusters are in the drums, but if you are not sure I would suggest getting it done by a professional as so many people try to adjust these and adjust them too far. Guesst from Kent

Hello, I own a diesel Micra 2004. I had the engine jet-washed and now the red warning power steering light has illuminated and I have no power steering. Any advice please? Thanks

Answers

The Jet wash could have burst a PAS pipe, try filling it with PAS fluid, turn the car on and turn the steering lock to lock, the level will go down if it is just low, carry on topping up till it stops, if it does not stop take a look around and under the engine bay for leaking PAS fluid. I was driving my car yesterday and braked at give way lines. The engine then lost all power and would not restart. The lights and radio are working and the breakdown man checked the battery and that seems fine. He also checked the oil and did not remark on that so I presume the oil level is also fine. I think I heard a crack noise earlier but I might have just gone over something.

Answers

Hi,check the fusable link to the battery hasn't corroded.Quite common on these when they get old and have been parked outside most of their lives, The fusable link is attached to your battery and is easy to find. The symptoms you describe are typical of the fusable link failing. The battery itself can be fine while the link is not.Your lights etc will still work because they are on a different ,low tension circuit. The fusable link is part of your ignition circuit. If it fails, the engine will cut out just as you describe, and not restart. Essentially, battery- fusable link- ignition coils- spark plugs. Connected in that order. Fraser Gray from Highland

Can a faulty lambda sensor trigger other electrical faults? Today my power steering failed - I had ignored the lambda sensor fault warning for weeks as it is just a glorified emissions meter and continued to drive with the warning light on - but today the power steering warning light also came on and then the power steering failed, returning after a short period of the engine being switched off and now apparently running fine. It is clearly an electrical fault and not a duff pump.(The weather had been wet). I strongly suspect the ECU is picking up the lambda fault and now intermittently causing the power steering electrics to cut out. I also think that replacing the lambda sensor will probably fix both problems and I sure don't want to / will not pay hundreds for a new power steering unit. Anyone know about this?

Answers

Hi Fraser, as far as I'm aware a duff Lambda sensor will not only affect emissions / mpg but, too rich a fuel mixture can and will damage the cat which will also result in £££££s. Can`t see this problem affecting the (PS) electric power steering, which by the way IS a known fault on the Micra, but you don't hear the manufacturers shouting about it!! Phil from Kent

i have a nissan march 2004 and have notice for the last three months that it has been giving some problems. when i explained to the mechanic what is happening he is unsure of the diagnosis. here go, sometimes i am driving and then without any warning the car loses power, despite depressing the gas pedal the car does not go any faster. other times i will feel the steering wheel vibrate and then the car loses power. on other occasions, there is a burning rubber smells and power is loss as well. this is not consistent and possible lost for 3 to 5 minutes, sometimes it happen shortly after i move off or after i have been driving for a while. your assistance please

Answers

Sonny hi, you may have more than one fault here as the burning smell suggests an electrical fault (or binding brakes). For the power loss it may be one of the following - fuel filter choked, fuel pump faulty, air filter blocked or dirty, worn out spark plugs. Also, check that your battery is connected up properly and tightly, it could be something as simple as a poor battery terminal connection. Check the simple and easy things first, that is the battery, the binding brakes and the spark plugs. These cars don't usually go wrong,(if they have been properly serviced) and when they do it's usually something simple. Fraser Gray from Highland

I havn't got an answer for you but was wondering if you have solved the problem yet, we have the same fault with a 2003 micra although indicators/hazzards have completely stopped working now. I was told to change the hazzard switch but this didn't cure fault. I've checked all the fuses and the bulbs are ok as they flash when locking/unlocking car. graham, from County Fermanagh

The drivers door will not lock but all the others do , this is a big problem can someone tell me what is wrong with it , and how much it will cost to fix it

Answers

Stephanie, Nissan accepted that there was a problem with the central locking system on the Micra (it was caused by a duff switch in the boot) and they recalled all the vehicles some time ago, when you would have had it fixed for free. They should have written to you as the registered keeper. Try contacting Nissan and see if they will still honour the recall, or get them to agree a refund of the garage bill, the boot switch is expensive. I'm sorry but I can't remember the date of the recall. Good luck. Don't fork out a bean until you get some satisfaction from Nissan. Fraser Gray from Highland
