The "Oil high" light is coming on in my Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van and diesel is mixing with the oil in the engine sump. I have changed two injectors, the inlet pump and the high pressure pump but the problem still exists. Does anyone know what is causing the diesel to enter the oil sump?

I recently purchased a long wheel base Mercedes Benz Sprinter 311. Previously I owned both a car and a van but decided to get a newer van and get rid of the car. Since getting the van every so often it will start to churn out white or blue smoke. It has been sent back to Mercedes and they have reprogrammed the vehicle, it has also had new injectors and a thorough overhaul. Is the problem occurring now simply because I am not using the van solely for long journeys but rather am on occasion making stop-start journeys? If this is not the case should the DPF regenerate itself regularly? I would be extremely grateful if you could not only answer my query but perhaps point out solutions and/or potential causes that I have failed to pin point.

Does the glow plug light on the dash come on when starting the engine from warm? The van has just had new fuel filters fitted by a garage and I noticed that when I started it up there was no light on the dash.

When my Sprinter’s engine is hot the vehicle will not start immediately but takes 30 to 45 seconds to start. Kick start, yes, cold start, yes. Serviced vehicle, replaced glow plugs, injectors and pump, both sensors on the common rail. Problem is still there. Any advice please? (308 cdi)

I have a problem with front brake pedal! When you push it it just keeps going till it hits the floor, but only when the van is in parking position. You have to push quite hard in order to do this. I put new pads on but it still does it, the MOT station failed on this. The van stops great but they failed my van on this. Can anyone help? Has anyone had the same problem? Thanks. (313 cdi lwb)

I have a Mercedes Sprinter cdi 313. It has a problem where when I start from cold, it runs fine for about 5 minutes then just stops. It restarted straight away and it seems to be the same length of time it stops. I have just purchased the van and on close inspection has had just about every sensor changed. So this is an ongoing problem. I have had the memory read only to be told it has no codes! Any ideas?

Does my Merc mwb Sprinter 308 comply with the new london emissions law?
Answers
Around a month ago, I was sent a letter from London Council via the DVLA stating that in a few months time (January?), my 2002 Sprinter 316cdi 2.7L diesel engine will not meet the new legislation. If yours doesn’t, I presume you will also receive notification - Dave from England

Why have both my frontlights stopped working on my Sprinter? Could it be a fuse?
Answers
If not the bulb, I have found the electrical connectors can become soiled and loose on older vans. Found this to be the fault on my main-beam and also the interior air fan. Solved by simply pulling the plastic electrical plug out that is found on the back of the light unit, cleaning contacts with a bit of sandpaper (very light sand) and using a screwdriver to slightly bend the metal female couplings so that they grip tighter onto the male pins in the associated socket - Robert Adshead from Berkshire

What is the route of the fan belt on a 311 turbo Sprinter?
Submitted: 23/11/2010 16:01:47 | ID: 3358
I have a Merc 308 d van and my fan belt keeps coming off even after fitting a new tensioner. The full thing, a new fan belt, a new alternator, yet it still comes of - can anybody help? (308)
Answers
The alternator has a free-wheel built into the pulley, check that it works. Replace whole alternator and not just wheel bearings can fail after wheel has been changed - Liam F from Ireland

Hi guys! I have a Mercedes Sprinter 311 lwb. It is a great van and it truly does sprinter across the motorway. But recently i have been hearing an unusual hissing sound coming from the engine, I am hoping it is not the turbo going on it... If anyone has any idea what this noise may be please do respond. Thank you.
Answers
Iffy, these cdi engines are prone to injecter seals failing, which can make a hissing noise. Listen to the injectors with the engine running to confirm - Eddy Arnold from Kent

Has anyone encountered a problem with the ’oil high’ light coming on at 40+ miles per hour on these motors? Only this seems to happen frequently to me and when checked the oil levels are appearing to be normal. (311 CDi)
Answers
There is fuel getting into the oil causing the level to rise. Does the vehicle do a lot of stop start? Ozzie Morr from Cheshire
We have 9 of the 311 CDi’S on a 59 plate. We have had them from new and all of them have always had this problem. They range from 20,000 to 50,000 a year - David from Essex
