My Mercedes c180 won’t start and there are no lights on the dashboard. What could this mean?

Mercedes-Benz C-Class Sports Coupe 2005

The engine diagnostic light showed ash part filter fault. The part was ordered without mechanic looking at vehicle so I asked for a second opinion as the light has now remained off, and was told that there appears to be no fault active, so why did the light show fault in the first place? Is my car okay to drive still? Thanks Dee
