Mazda Premacy 2002

Hi, we got this van as a direct import from Japan. The other day we learned that is an all wheel drive model. Does this mean that the vehicle drives all the time in four-wheel-drive? There is a buttom at the end of the gear handle, is this to activate the all wheel?? Thanks and regards (1.8 MPV)
