I have a 90bhp 2.4 ldv convoy 53 plate. Put the key in, Turn ignition on, all lights come on, glow plug light goe"s out and nothing. Have noticed the red led light built in on the dash decides to rapidly flash rather than going out. Had key checked by timsons and it didn"t recognise there being a chip in it. Is it the transponder, ignition barrel?

Hi all I have a strange problem with the rear brakes on my LDV convoy twin wheel I have changed the rear shoes both rear wheel cylinders and hand brake cable and rear flexi hose and still have the problem I started with. When you jack it of the floor only 1 inch the o/s/r/ wheel spins with your little finger and when its on the floor the wheel locks up and the truck hardly moves along. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE ANY IDEARS .
The hand brake cable may be adjusted too tight (the pull on the cable is affected by the position of the rear suspension, jacked up or back on its wheels). Try this: completely slacken off the cable then tighten up the manual adjuster for the shoes, rotating the drum and tapping it with a rubber mallet until the drum locks. Now adjust up the cable just until the free play is removed. Now release the brake adjuster until the drum spins freely. If you have replaced the shoes and the mechanism correctly your handbrake should now have good bite but not cause the brake to drag or lock up. If it still drags then release the adjuster another couple of clicks. Hugh from City of Glasgow

Hi have a ldv convoy minibus with duratorque engine.The bus recently started to give a little black smoke off when excelarating .Had oil and filters changed 4k ago same with fuel and air filters I've also added a little cleaning additives to the oil and fuel.The glow plug light came up on dash after 2 hours of driving on school run so had glow plugs replaced everything OK for a few days then glow plug light comes on switched bus off on key and restarted bus glow p!ug light doesn't come on I've even changed glow plug relay and the light still comes on engine runs fine and always starts no noises or bumps could their be an injector issue? Looking for advice don't want to keep throwing money away would it be advisable to get a diagnostics check done thanks mark.
Get a diagnostic check before you replace anything else, it could be something as simple as the temperature or MAF sensors. Mick from Portugal

Hi There, I have a P reg LDV Convoy, just had it mot and put it in for engine flush and oil change, was going great but today there appears no power steering, I've checked the fluid in the reservoir and its ok, I checked for any leaks but there is none, the steering is almost solid, I dare not drive it, I would greatly appreciate it if anyone can give me any help or advice, what is wrong and what to do, if you can help me asap please. WM.

Hi I turn the key panel lights up turn to start nothing no clicking ,battery good Van was a good starter, but has been standing for a month since mot Has got damp in cab as it is outside not under cover Any ideas please could it be the relay getting damp would be happy for any help Thanks. Paul

LDV Convoy 1997 with a Peugeot 2.5TD ET70 engine in her. I've had an intermittent problem with starting the old bus from a cold start. A couple of months ago the glow plug orange light on the dash failed to light up and the van would not start unless I rolled it down a hill. For a month or two it seems to have corrected itself and has not caused me any problems but tonight the problem re-occurred and now from cold she will not start again. Once again the orange glow plug light on the dash instruments is not lighting up for the required length of time. It flickers on for less than a second then goes out again. What do you think the problem might be please and how do I go about fixing this? If I do need to buy a part/s, what do I need to buy please? Any assistance / advice gratefully received. Thanks, Mark

Hi . I have 2..5 LDV convoy 17 seat minibus converted into a camper van and recently had a problem with drivers side front indicator - have replaced the bulb twice now and it just keeps blowing as soon as it is used - any ideas ?

Hi I went through some deep water, then the ABS light came on dashboard clocks, I've checked all the abs sensors, no obstructions or broken wires, I have Delphi diagnostics but do not seem to read find any fault codes any suggestions on any specific software to find any fault code/ clear fault would be appreciated. I've got 2004 3.5t lwb ldv convoy 2.4 duratorq engine (ex Royal Mail) and I've noticed the interior light for the back of my van used to have a 30 minute delay but now when you open the back doors it comes on for about 10-20 seconds then shuts off. It still doesn't come on when I press the plunger/trigger switch situated just inside the door jamb. Can you please help? Also, I was wondering if ldv convoys tend to leak diesel from the entrance of the tank. Basically where you fill your tank from. My van has always leaked when I fill right up but it seems to be getting worse now. Is this something I just have to put up with?

I am looking for the switch to operate the roof fan, I have opened the cover and traced the wiring back into the loom on the drivers side above the windows but cannot find the switch in the cab or in the van

Hi, we have just bought a 2001 convoy school bus conversion. It has a Ford petrol/lpg engine, which replaced the original in 2004. It passed the MOT, provided by the seller. We have noticed a strong smell of petrol in the cab since it was fuelled up - no puddles under the bus, and the smell gets stronger when it's parked overnight. We think maybe the top of the petrol tank has a hole, or maybe filler cap (also petrol smell from the cap), or the charcoal filter; is it possible to easily see the top of the tank? My LDV with Ford engine starts and ticks over fine but cuts out on revs. New starter motor 600 miles ago. Only one key with code. As soon as i press throttle it cuts out. Or it will let me rev but when i release throttle to tick over it cuts out. RAC diagnostic tool couldn't read ECU.
Sally is it a Duratorq or Bannana engine? If a Bannana is it N/A or Turbo? If it is a Turbo with a "fly-by-wire" throttle then you need a dealer because only a diagnostic machine can set the tick-over. If it is a cable type throttle N/A Bannana engine you need to adjust the throtle stop to up the tickover by a hundred revs. Jon jon from Cornwall

after being stuck in traffic with engine on for half an hour in my 2003 convoy with 2.4 durotork engine i went 4 miles down dualcarriageway when i lost power and luckily glided it into nearby layby.engine seemed hot,i always top up radiator water and engine oil so no prob there.when cooled down i tried to start but wouldnt have it.it did start for a few seconds when i sqirted easy start into engine.battery and starter motor ok.had mechanic do diagnostics check but every time he tried this failed.he couldnt get reading so how can i find out whats wrong.do you think the van is now best to be scrapped

Hi have convoy on 54 plate had a big problem first the timing went caused top end to be rebuilt believe this was caused be cause if rear diff leaked changed diff now changed propshaft all because it vibrated at 20/30 mph now it dose it at 50 mph when decelerating can any one help it drive's fine other than that
Maybe the diff & prop shaft are out of kilter. when you remove the prop shaft intending to replace it on the same back axle you should mark the position. Undo the 4 4 bolts securing the prop to the diff flange turn 90 degrees and see if that helps. If it doesn't you go underneath turn another 90 degrees - test drive etc by a test drive. When you find the correct setting secure the bolts using Loctight or as an alternative dip the bolts in Hammerite and do up while wet - a lot cheaper than Loctight. Jon jon from Cornwall
I'm intrigued to know how a leaking differential caused "top end" failure, usually broken cam belt so not Duratorq (chain). As regards prop shaft, there are only two options for bolting up, the bolt holes are asymmetric, two wide spaces and two narrow spaces so the options are 180 degrees i.e. half a turn. As for marking the flanges that ls a widely held old myth; as manufactured a Prop-Shaft is balanced and on initial fitting no further attempt is made to balance it on the vehicle, to do so would be superfluous as it rotates between a perfectly formed pinion in the differential and the same applies at the gear box end. Is the replacement shaft new or used, check it's condition. distortion, play in the U/Js if it came from a breakers yard. The only problem I have encountered is an appetite for centre bearings; you can buy them (just the bearing races) from a local factor and remove easily from the rubber housing. teegee from Herefordshire

Hi, I have an ex disability minibus twin wheeler converted into a camper van. It did have a turbo engine but as the Epic Pump etc were shot - engine tick-over 2000 RPM I have changed it for a naturally aspirated 2.5 DI. I am fitting a leisure battery, I had intended to fit it in the large boot under the double bed, but then thought some Convoys have 2 batteries - could I locate the Leisure Battery where the second battery (if fitted) would be located. Can anyone tell me where the second battery is positioned? Thank you Jon

If you are asking about the cab heater, it is located in the body of the heater fan, one screw to remove, it is a printed circuit virtually unrepairable. If you refer to to the Glow Plugs there is a relay and no resistor. teegee from Herefordshire

Can anyone assist please. Where can i find the engine number on the ford duratorq 2.4 engine. I sent my log book off to get it changed to motorhome but i put in the wrong number. Also what format should it be in so I know what I am looking for.
If ur vehicle is front wheel drive the number will be at the front of the engine running vertically and about a third the way from left to right. You can just read it but easier to get small camera or phone in there to take a pic. The panel may need a good clean and the number is usually assigned to a few motors.. like a batch number. RWD - same location but the engine will run lengthways. R Evans from Caerphilly

I am having problems tracing starter fault. there is power going from ignition switch but not doing anything . I did take starter motor out and checked out ok. I also checked earth connections to no avail I also checked immobiliser by joining both r/w wires. I would be most grateful for any suggestions for remedies.
Hi John. I assume / hope your van is NA not Turbo! If it is Turbo could be a management module fault (YUK) Have you got power going to the solenoid when you operate the ignition switch. - If not run a wire direct from the ignition switch (by-pass the imobiliser) direct to the solenoid. - If this solves the problem the fault is in the wiring - either a loose connection or a broken wire (it is possible for the insulation to be intact while the wire inside is broken). Hi I recently replaced the injector pump and keys on my 2003 LDV panel van after . Need help on which tools I can use to program the keys as well as the pump so that they sync with the ecu. Does ford's ids or Oasis software work in such cases? Or which other option do I have. Appreciate your help

when i start my ldv convoy with a duatec engine as soon as i touch the throttle it stops it will start right up but will stop again wen throttle is pushed if you gently pump the throttle it will run fine till you turn it off then it dos it again any ideas

Hi I have a 2.4 2003 ldv convoy some time when I start it will cut out and then it will start straight back up then it will make a rattaling sound when i drive it for about 2 miles it will stop what could it be ive been told it could be a timing chain.

Hopefully someone can help me I have a ldv 400 convoy bananna engine and it will drive for about 5 minutes and then it will release white smoke from the exhaust then engine light comes on and goes in limp mode until I turn it off and back on I have removed the egr filter cleaned it all out and it still happens any ideas will be great thank you

I have an x 17 seater convoy ambulance with a ford banana engine and an auto box which i have just converted into a camper .Its a 2000 plate with 15k miles on it only we came back from a trip no issues . it has never missed a beat always started on the button. We pulled up in the drive fine , anyway i went to start it the other day 2 days after parking up, and nothing lots of clicks from relays but engine will not turn over. I have checked the following battery fine even tried another battery and jumping it no difference. Immobilizer is looking ok in as much as its flashing correctly lights for about 5 seconds when ignition turned then goes out. Would the immobilizer stop the engine turning over? especially if starter solenoid is getting power and can be heard and felt clicking when in situ. Engine turns by hand no problem , not siezed. Solenoid on starter is getting power on exciter cable when ignition is switched and you can here solenoid switching. I have taken starter motor out, it is the original ford and tested off a battery runs fine, i have even tried jamming it with wood to replicate a load and couldn't stop it turning. I have being an Auto that it is in neutral it is and if its in gear starter motor solenoid doesn't switch. Checked fuses, checked all battery connections for tightness , cleaned and greased and all earth straps etc to chassis and gearbox. Please help any ideas welcome im at a loss ????? When you had the starter motor off the van did you observe the solenoid operating correctly? It performs 2 functions. (I assume by "EXCITER" you mean the thin trigger cable from the ignition switch.) 1. Pull pinion into crank position. 2. switch power and spin starter motor. The first thing to check is if the pin the Pinion fork moves on is lubricated. Jon jon from Cornwall
The likely cause of your problem is a faulty Solenoid. When you hear it clicking it is pre- engaging the pinion, at that point a large copper contact makes the power (high amperage) circuit to the motor windings, these contacts arc and deteriorate to the point of not supplying sufficient current to turn the motor. teegee from Herefordshire

Hi guys, My 2001 2.5td convoy leaked and ruined the ecu. Mechanic had it replaced. Now stuck under 2.5K RPM and will only do 50mph downhill at full speed! Is this "limp home mode"? If so, how do I fix it? No socket for obd2 reader in this model, apparently. The only thing I can see is a hard drive thing to the right of the accelerator pedal, which I'm assuming is the" new" ecu.

I have a 2002 Convoy minibus, low top, with a big roof rack on top. former scout bus. I need to fit a new windscreen. I have found one locally from a 1999 Convoy and was wondering if it will fit. Can anybody help please. Many thanks, jon

Hi there, I've been having problems with my ldv convoy,, starting problems, its a '96 model with a 2.5 peugeot diesel in it,, i used it all day then that night went to start it & it just went 'click',, starter motor gone methinks so a new 1 was duly fitted which made not a jot of difference so on the off chance i'd been sold a gammy 1 i bench tested it,,, fine,, so was my old 1 though the main connecting pin was loose so i kept the new 1. I asked a lad about it & he suggested bridging the big pin & small pin ,, the van started fine & has continued to do so up until last night when it decided to misbehave exactly the same way again. Would i be correct in thinking starter relay might be iffy & if so where can i find it on van ??
Starter relay is located - left hand side below fascia - remove lower fascia panel for access.. 5 relays - starter relay has blue connector - usually plays up when damp. Hope this helps. Clive from Oxfordshire

Andrew, impossible to tell if it's siezed by the info.. when engine cuts out or is stopped, the oil pump stops and oil pressure drops.. so the oil light WILL come on.. what does it do when you crank it.. does the engine turn over ok? If it does, it's not siezed. R Evans from Caerphilly

I have a LDV Convoy double cab tipper with 2.5di (epic).I came to start it and the ignition lights come on,but will not turn over.The immobiliser is stopping it,I just wondering if immobiliser can be bypassed or if I can get it back to normal,I only have 1 black key with the vehicle.Please can some one help me .Thanks John,
I had same problem, but was due to wet ecu, not immobiliser. Now ecu replaced, will start and run, but not over 2.5K RPM or 50mph. I think this is "limp home mode". Wondering what to do next! Christopher Rynn from Angus
