I have a Jaguar X Type 3.0 which gives me problems when I try to pump gas. The pump nozzle won't stay on - keeps clicking off and won't let the gas flow steadily into the tank. Never ever had this problem with another car. Can't figure if it's something I'm doing wrong or not. Has anyone had this problem?

I have just noticed that my Jaguar is starting to misfire between 50 and 70mph and when accelerating a lot of black smoke comes out of the exhaust. It is going into a main Jaguar dealer for a diagnosis but I would welcome any thoughts of what might be wrong.

I bought my jaguar x type 2001 second hand. It's a 2.5 lit petrol auto. Of late it's refusing to start because the air con keeps switching itself on and draining the battery. If I disconnect the battery then the car will start in most of the cases. However even after disconnecting, it has refused to start and have had to rely on friends and family to jump start the car for me. Does anyone know what might be causing the aircon to switch itself on or has anyone else had a similar problem?

My X-Type petrol has recently started to lose acceleration until it comes to a complete standstill - slight misfiring , hesitate almost if blockage somewhere . I can drive normally for around 15 mins before this symptom kicks in - only able to clear it by turning off engine and driving briefly before this happens again. I would be very grateful for any advice or solution . Kind Regards

Hi, Ive got a 55 plate X Type 2L TD estate, great car and use it for work. Its done less that 100,000 miles and runs really well a apart from black smoke bellows out the back end when i accelerate. I have tried various petrol stations and injection cleaners but none seem to work. My local garage recommends replacing the high pressure fuel pump but seems a little extreme. Could this be injectors, the injector rail or high pressure pump? Thanks in advance. Paul.

Answers

Hi Paul, when mine did the masses of black smoke thing it was the EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) valve that was full of black tar and goo! In fact the whole inlet manifold gets absolutely clogged because they inject exhaust gasses back into the engine (utter madness) . You can get EGR cleaner in a spray can and clean it all out yourself quite easily. It will be like a different car. Jon Nolan from Yorkshire

Hi Jon, Cleaned the EGR and replaced a split pipe and now the car runs like a dream. However, when the car has warmed up and on tick over, after around 2 or 3 mins the car starts smoking. This did happen before, any ideas? Regards, Paul. Paul from Worcestershire

Hello there, I wonder if anyone tell me why, after switching off the engine, do I hear a slight noise coming from behind the dash, roughly to the right of the radio/cd player area, it sound's like a cooling fan which is used in PC's to cool a heat sink, but I have been told that there is a processor in that location, but it seems to run the whole time? What is it please.

Answers

Hi Ron, Although I dont have an answer to your question, i have the same noise. I dont thinks its a problem as the car runs fine. Regards, Paul. Paul from Worcestershire

I have the same noise on my 2004 diesel. Sounds like some sort of humming noise coming from the dash. I did think this might drain the battery over time but have had the car 12 months now and had no problems with it. Rob from Shropshire

Hi, I have a 2005 X Type Jaguar Estate, my problem is filling the car at a petrol station. The petrol pump nozzle when put into the filler keeps cutting out as if the tank is full, so in order to fill it I have to keep the nozzle out and let only a small amount of fuel in . It takes about seven minutes to fill a half full tank. As I'm on the forecourt so long I'm concerned I'll be charged rent!!! Can anyone solve my problem please? Thanks Stuart.

Hi, when I fill my XType Estate at the petrol station it takes an age as I cannot insert the nozzle of the pump without it automatically switching off, so have to have the nozzle on the edge of the filler and very slowly fill up. Needless to say it takes an age. I hope someone can solve this problem for me. Cheers Stuart

Driving home tonight 25 miles into my journey and the car was going great - then a loud bang from behind me, the car starts juddering. I depress the clutch and the car coasts. I engage clutch and the car picks up, then judders sporadically in any gear with other noises from the engine bay. I've read others say about rushing air. I think I might be getting that as well but the bang concerns me most, it sounded metallic and expensive! The only other thing is that for some while when I accelerated, mostly in 4th and 5th, I heard a metallic growling sound from the rear of the car, whether this is related I'm beginning to wonder. EGR valve was done last year for a constant engine management light fault. Any suggestions?

Hi Barrie, I have a 2005 X Type 2.0 Diesel Estate and just had the same issues. If it is a diesel get the fuel injectors cleaned and use fuel additive to keep them clean. I would advise half filling your tank with a higher grade fuel as they have more lubricants in the fuel. Also give the car a good blat down the motorway to give it a good clear out. Also replace the fuel filter. They need a good blast down the motorway if you are only using the car to travel around town. Hope this helps. Iain, Bolton iain from Lancashire

Hi Barrie I presume you have a diesel? If so the problem sounds like a typical blocked Egr valve. A dirty job but fairly easy - remove and clean the egr and replace preferably with a blanking plate (need solid plate for 2 litre and a 10mm holed plate for 2.2). I also agree using half and half v power diesel / ordinary and a forte or such like diesel treetment will help keep injectors etc clean. Hope this helps. Tony Albion from Tyne and Wear

On my Jaguar I have a problem that sometimes the brake system light used to come on and I couldn't accelerate anymore, so I had to turn it off and turn it on again and it did work again generally. I changed the brakes, rotors and it fixed the problem which never happemed again. Last week the brake system light came on again so I did the same thing, turned it off but this time the light didn`t go off, so I unplugged the battery for a while and it did go off, so I put new tyres, checked brake fluid which is good. So what`s the problem now?
