I was driving my Jaguar X-Type diesel when I heard a loud pop from the engine. When I accelerate it sounds like a plastic bag is rotating in my engine compartment. Now the car has lost power and judders. Does anyone have any ideas guys? (Diesel)

When my Jaguar X-Type had a flat battery I jump started it from another car. I started the ignition to find the leads to be on the wrong battery terminals. After correcting polarity the engine started fine but the touch screen will not come on. I have checked the 5 amp fuse and this is okay. Does anyone have any ideas please?

Hi. My Jaguar X-Type`s ems light is on and my heater is stuck on hot. I`ve no air con and the fault code says air con unit and nothing else. Is there a way of narrowing this down as it has already spent 8 hours in the garage and they can`t find the fault? Thank you. (petrol 2.0 v6)

Hi there. I have got a Jaguar X-Type 2.5 v6 and I have had the ecu checked, the fuel sensor replaced, the crank sensor replaced and the cam shaft sensor replaced but the car is not starting. Sometimes it keeps ticking over but does not fire. Once started it drives perfectly. What could the problem be?

I have just purchased a beautiful Jaguar X-Type but I am experiencing a problem. When accelerating after changing gear the engine appears to lose power and there is a judder, like the engine is trying to stall. The clutch then has to be pushed in again and the revs need to be bought up to 2000rpm, then let clutch out and it flies off without a problem. This happens with every gear change. Today the car will not idle, the revs keep dropping off and then picking up again. When the accelerator is pressed on idle it does not respond as usual and makes a funny noise. It sounds like it`s from under the car and there is a lot of smoke out the back. Is my car doomed?

Hi there. I have a Jaguar X-Type sport 2.5l 2001. My rear windows are manual and I decided to change it to electric so I bought new door panels (front and rear) with all the window switches, as well as new loom and electric window regulators for rear windows only. After installing and connecting everything up it doesn`t work, it looks like there is no pover coming to the rear windows regulator? So is there something I`ve missed or haven`t done like adding additional fuse or something? If anyone could help it would be much appreciated. (X type sports 2.5 v6)

Can you use bio-diesel in a 2-litre diesel X-Type Jaguar or do you need to convert it so it can take bio-diesel? Thanks.
Answers
I have a 2.0D x-Type 2003 and I already had it working with biodiesel, even 100% bio and now, sometimes 5% bio. It needs no change but with 100% bio, the engine works very irregular so I stopped with that 100% bio. In EU now all diesel has at least 5% bio - Miguel Matos from Portugal

I’m buying a damaged 2.5 Jaguar X-Type 2001. There is minor damage to the bonnet front bumper and radiator, right hand part of rad has been pushed back approx 6-8" almost on the engine. The engine starts fine but I’m wondering if there could be other items broken. I am guessing fans may need to also be changed. What other parts behind the rad could be damaged as there is a square silver box, could the aircon be here? I`m new to this so I’m really asking do you think I could manage the whole repair which would be: change bonnet, bumper, replace radiator? It’s from a salvage yard for £500, vgc apart from the damage. I bid by accident and won and now have the choice to take or leave it. Any advice would be appreciated, oh it’s cat c. Is it worth doing the job prior to reselling? Prob worth £1200+ once done. Should I bother? (2.5 petrol)
Answers
Run as fast as you can-AWAY from it..! Karen Jones from England
Bonnet and bumper are the least of your problems there. If the coolant radiator is pushed back, the air-con radiator will be damaged too. If the bumper has taken the impact, the front cross-member (behind the bumper cover / panel) will be bent. And, if the front cross-member is bent, it will have pulled one, or both, sides of the chassis inwards, ever so slightly but it will need straightening or else your camber will be out, leading to uneven wear on your tyres or vague steering. If you don’t have a jig of your own, it’s going to cost you at least £500 to have it checked for true, let alone straightened. Then there’s the Mot followed by the Vic Check. Then you won’t be able to give a cat C petrol X-type away, let alone sell it! Jemmy H from Lancashire

My Jaguar X-Type`s engine rattles on tick over and sounds like an old Transit! Also when you first start the car diesel smoke emits from the exhaust, the engine management light comes on and the engine ticks over very lumpy. After 10 seconds the light goes off, smoke goes and the engine runs normally. The car pulls like a steam train. I had a new egr valve fitted, turbo and new clutch conversion. I was wondering if it could be the injectors? Any ideas? (2.0 SE diesel)

My Jaguar X-Type`S fuse number 75 keeps blowing. This became apparent when the automatic climate control or air conditioning control unit display showed nothing and none of the functions worked. When I replaced the fuse it sounds like something is still working or tying to work without the ignition on and blows the fuse straight away. Is it because something is shorting out? Firstly, I have only had my Jaguar X-Type for a short period and am still learning about it! Possible Problem: I turn the ignition key but it does not crank the engine. Various announciators illuminate for a period and then most extinguish, as I would expect. My question is with the associated audio warning. When I first got the car there was just a short "beep" when the aforementioned annunciators extinguished. That I still have occasionally now, but most of the time I now get a continuous tone which lasts from turning the ignition key to the point when the majority of the annunciators exstinguish. Is this continuous tone telling me that there is a problem? When I floor the clutch and turn the ignition key to crank the engine the car starts and seems to run faultlessly! (Diesel)

I need to replace the front passenger seatbelt anchor / receiver on my 2005 Jaguar X-Type Saloon to pass the MOT - mine will not latch. I have acquired a replacement from a breaker`s yard today with a two month guarantee, but I am hoping I can fiit this myself as I am an O.A.P now and feeling the pinch and can ill-afford Jaguar workshop labour charges, which seem to have gone through the roof. However, I am not sure of the correct procedure to do this job and would very much appreciate any expert tips and answers to the following questions. Must I disconnect the battery first - to protect the electrics and airbag operation? Should I remove the seat first and should I remove any fuses? Are there any special tools required to do this work?
Answers
One the part is the same as on a Ford I got one from a breakers for £10.00. You will have to take the seat out, 4 10mm bolts so you can get to the bolt holding on the buckle. Before you pull the seat out unplug the electrics. Ensure the battery is disconnected as the is a pre-tensioner. With a start drive remove the bolt holding the buckle. Well done Jaguar, I had this problem on holiday in the west country last year, jag main agent were no help at all. The fault was caused by a broken earth wire in the loom, but to get into the boot is easy if you have a drill and a 10mm bit, remove your number plate, drill a hole under the U and A in jaguar about midway where your plate would be, then with a long screw driver you can flick the lock open - Richard Green from Essex

When my Jaguar X-Type’s engine is cold the engine sounds as if it has rattle tappets. This gets less as the engine gets hotter. Could this mean it needs an oil change? It has a stamped service book, the mileage is 54,000. Thanks.
Answers
Do an oil and filter change (you’d be surprised how many people change the oil and not the filter). The important thing with these modern engines is to use a good quality oil and also essential that it is the correct grade - if your X-Type is a petrol engine use a fully synthetic 5w-30 oil, it is still normal to hear the hydraulic tappets for a brief period (until the oil circulates properly and the oil warms up a little). Hope this cures your problem - Arne Delve from Carmarthenshire

To get to it just open the bonnet (obviously!) and pull off the engine cover (the large plastic bit with JAGUAR written on it... it does just pull off!). I have been running my X-Type 2004 diesel on biodiesel for a while now, only problem I have accured is when on startup in the morning, the car won’t tickover properly until the biodiesel thins down a bit, apart from that no problem! There are so many people out there with different views but hey I am saving nearly 50p per litre, and getting local 48mpg, and motorways on long journeys over 50 mpg - Murray Brown from Stirlingshire
Using bio in any diesel is hit an miss, some take bio in pure form, some won’t. If it’s ok using it but tick over is uneven, try putting one gallon of petrol and 5 gallons of bio in... it will run but not have the thickness of normal bio to struggle with - remember that bio oil has no lubrication like diesel... so you will need to use normal road diesel as well... or the pump will seize up - 1-part petrol+5 parts bio = good diesel - Karen Jones from England
I suggest you read this Karen Jones - http://www.berkeleybiodiesel.org/useful-guide-understand.html - Michael from Lincolnshire

After the first start in a morning the glow plug light flashes. If I run about 1/2 mile then stop and restart it goes out and comes back on flashing under full throttle with quite a drop in power. Any ideas what it could be?

Has the Jaguar X-Type Classic got an outside temperature gauge? My car has 2 LCD screens, the top one is for the climate control. I can see the temperature through the LCD but it is not on. Also, is the temperature gauge under the bumber? If so, I have come across this. I have asked the garage to fix this. They are saying that it is not on the car as standard - funny when everything else is there on the car. Can somebody help? Thank you. (Classic diesel)
