When my Jaguar X-Type’s engine is cold the engine sounds as if it has rattle tappets. This gets less as the engine gets hotter. Could this mean it needs an oil change? It has a stamped service book, the mileage is 54,000. Thanks.

I have an X type 2.0 diesel se 2004. 75k miles. Recently had a new dual mass flywheel and clutch fitted. I find that in the early morning it’s hard to select first and second gear. But when I have driven for about half an hour it becomes a lot easier. What could the problem be?

This is a really common issue. You basically have to manhandle it off. Maybe a little leverage from underneath. It is too tight a fit for sure but when you have removed it once, you will understand what force is required - Phil from England

I own an X-Type 2.0 diesel. When I start it up, the engine doesn’t so much burst into action as stutters. Also when driving at 60mph approx, I sometimes feel a little ’kick’ every now and then. Is this an injector and are these one and the same problem? Also I’m getting a strange ’whirring’ noise from the PAS, what is this and how do I get it fixed? (Diesel)

The front door nearside will not open from inside or out. Does anyone have a clue to the problem?
Answers
I have the same problem with my X-Type. Apparently, it is a common fault. The deadlock engages and won’t disengage. You will be better off buying a replacement part (actuator/catch) about £44 on ebay, cheaper if you are prepared to get dirty at a car salvagers - Mark Hanratty from Durham

Hi, can I run my X-Type on biodiesel?
Answers
I have been running my X-Type 2004 diesel on biodiesel for a while now, only problem I have accured is when on startup in the morning, the car won’t tickover properly until the biodiesel thins down a bit, apart from that no problem! There are so many people out there with different views but hey I am saving nearly 50p per litre, and getting local 48mpg, and motorways on long journeys over 50 mpg - Murray Brown from Stirlingshire

Has the Jaguar X-Type Classic got an outside temperature gauge? My car has 2 LCD screens, the top one is for the climate control. I can see the temperature through the LCD but it is not on. Also, is the temperature gauge under the bumber? If so, I have come across this. I have asked the garage to fix this. They are saying that it is not on the car as standard - funny when everything else is there on the car. Can somebody help? Thank you. (Classic diesel)
