Strong smells form in side the car why

Answers

If it's a strong smell of fuel then it's self-evident you need to get it traced and get the leak repaired. If it's a strong fouls smell when you have the Air Conditioning on then you probably have mould growing on the heat exchanger fins in the climate control unit inside the car. You can buy an aerosol biocide spray to clean it out, remove the cabin air filter (pollen filter) and follow the instructions on the tin. Hugh from City of Glasgow

Have a squeak from rear suspension mainly drivers side, noise can be heard when back of car is depressed, when getting in and out and also inside car when driving, sounds like a dry rubber bush but I cant locate.. Another site suggests it could be rear lower control arms and recommends complete replacement which seems overboard but may be right ?. I would be grateful of any advice. Thanks Gary

I have a whining noise on idling from inside the car it would seem to be coming from the nearside anybody have any ideas...............Bob.

Answers

If the whine is apparent with the transmission in neutral and increases with engine speed until it is eventually drowned out with general engine noise then it could be a noisy alternator bearing or a drive belt. It could also be one of the serpentine belt tensioner or idler pulleys. Hugh from City of Glasgow

HI All I started to drive my 06 plate 2.0 ltr diesel sport today, as I started to accelerate the car there was what I can only describe as a "Pop" then the car stated to run very lumpy and there was grey smoke coming from the exhaust, and an obvious loss of power. Any ideas on what this could be would be very welcome Thanks

Answers

Hi Ken, similar thing happened to me the other week. (Jag x-type 2 ltr se estate. If you open the bonnet, at the front left corner of the engine bay, just to the left of the dip stick you will see the EGR valve. Going down from this is a thick rubber tube. Ours became detached and this is the intake for the turbo, I think? Sometimes they split so need replacing, under £20 usually. Luckily with ours it had just come loose and we manged to re-secure it... Started the engine, revved it a little, thick black smoke for a few seconds then cleared and back to normal... Now grappling with an intermittent flashing glow-plug issue... Loss of power etc. So if you know how to cure this, let me know... tim from Cornwall

I always wanted a Jag so got one. 2006 model, high mileage but good condition. And well serviced for most of the miles by top Jag garage. But having a few problems. When parking shuddering can be heard and felt and squealing can be heard. Have tried steering additive but no good. Been told belt is new. Plus over last couple of weeks, when I accelerated fairly fast in 2nd gear, plug lights come on and power reduces. Resets when I turn engine off and okay when driving steady. Seems as if there is a bit smoke when putting foot down in low gear. And lastly back end seems to give a bit of a fright when cornering at speed. (But not a might skid type speed) Any help would be appreciated to reassure me I have done the tight thing buying a Jag. Thanks

My 2004 X type, which I have had since new and has always been garaged, has recently developed a burning smell that leaks into the inside of the car when it stops moving. It is a second car and is only used for local trips where we live - it has 75,000 miles on clock and serviced regularly. A very good local mechanic has looked it over twice but is not a Jag expert, and can find nothing. Just reaching out to see if anyone has any ideas before I take it to the nearest Jag service center - which in itself is two hours drive away from where we live, hence my wish to find out what it could be before we drive it that far.

Hi, I have a 2.ooltr petrol X type that has suddenly developed a fault. I I try to accelerate, or climb a hill etc, I lose all power and the message, "cruise control no available" comes up on my screen. The car seems to surge with the power trying to come back in, almost as though the fuel is struggling to get through. The fault will clear if I back off the accelerator and the message clears with no warning lights on. Has anyone else come across this? Thanks.

Hi We recently had a tow bar fitted and since then the car is losing power at about 50 and very chuggy. going through the lower gears, the engine is very noisy and laboured and I cannot get more than about 60 top end and even that takes quite a long run at to get there. Previous to the tow bar being fitted it was absolutely fine and running on full powwer. I wondered if maybe in moving the exhaust to fit the tow bar whether it has loosened some debris that has been sucked up in to the EGR. We have put an EGR cleaner and injection cleaner through. There is no engine management light coming on but the engine is far from well. Any ideas please before I get a diagnostic ? Thanks Lynn

I disconnected my battery to change a nearside bulb and since reconnecting the power I have not been able to reset the time on my radio. The radio did not request the radio code after power loss, but I did lose the preset stations. I have tried all the reset instructions on the internet to no avail. If I hold down the mode button it goes straight to "clock reset" and will scroll through the hours and minutes but I cannot change any of the figures either using the search buttons or entering the digits. Is there a reset facility if all else fails. Any help would be gratefully received, thanks.

Answers

The Father-in-law has called round and showed me how to reset the clock. I have listed it on here because I have not seen this method listed anywhere else and may be of help to somebody else. Press the mode button until the clock reset appears, then use the "volume knob" to adjust the figures up and down, press mode to exit. Ross Charles from Derbyshire
