Hi, when I engage reverse gear in my Ford Transit the engine revs become very flat and unresponsive, but only in reverse gear. It`s been in the garage where they tried changing the reverse sensor on the gearbox, but it`s still the same. However when the reverse switch is unplugged from loom the revs return to normal! The garage has no idea. Maybe something is shorting somewhere? Any ideas? Cheers. (280 swb)

My Ford Transit Lwb has started making a knocking sound which seems to be in the front end. The engine smells hot but the temperature gauge is normal. I`ve parked it up at a friend`s yard and am a bit scared to drive it as it seems to be getting louder. Can anyone suggest what I should do please?

Hi. Our Ford Transit van starts fine every time, but for the last few months when accelerating through all heard is misfires/kangaroos. We have had a full service done, flushed the fuel system through and added redex on several full tanks. The problem showed no faults when diagnostics were run. We then had it back in the garage and they sent the van to an injector test company, they also could not find any fault. However they supposedly reported saying it could be the turbo starting to go. We have now taken it to another derv fitter who also put it on diagnostics and he said that it seems to have a fault with the air flow sensor. He has fitted a new one as well as a fuel filter. He says it seems better but is still missing. Can anyone help as we are at a loss to what it could be and it’s now starting to get expensive? (LWB T350 diesel)

Why is my water flowing straight into my engine on my Ford Transit. It’s not the oil cooler as I’ve joined the water pipes together and I can’t see it being the head gasket as its flowing in as fast as it goes in and sounds like its entering behind the timing belt casing. Is there a core plug in there that could of popped.

When travelling on the motorway my Ford Transit van seems to miss a beat a few times and then all of the power goes from the engine. The engine stays on but there`s no power at all, a warning light comes on the dashboard with a round dashed circle with an exclamation mark in the middle. If I turn the engine off it normally clears and I’m away again. Does anyone know what could be causing this please?

Hi, I have a Ford Transit VM 2007 model. It has recently been giving me trouble. I have taken it twice to a Ford service centre. They managed to reprogram the faults which were causing the power train light to constantly stay on, but this did not fix the problem. The symptoms are very intermittent. One hour the car works fine, the next I am struggling to get up to 40kms in second gear. The van is losing power and even cutting out whilst slowing down at a red light. I have however noticed that the problem mainly shows itself when the car has warmed up. Has anyone had or have heard of this problem? I have had suggestions that it could be the egr valve, air flow meter or crank meter?

Hello, I wonder if anyone can help? My Ford Transit van runs okay and after I stop when the van is hot and I go to start it it will start okay. The problem is the engine monitoring light goes out and comes back on and stays on. If I turn the engine off and restart it it will not fire first time, then it starts but I may have to repeat this several times to rectify it and then I can drive as normal. Does anyone know of a product or solution that can cure the problem? Thanks.

I have just bought a T260 04 model Ford Transit. The engine seems fine and it pulls through the gears well, but I get a vibration through the van when going up to 50mph. There’s also a noise of metal coming from the back wheel area somewhere as though something is rattling against another piece of metal. It`s not a loud noise but annoying. Any suggestions please? I have a Ford Transit 2.4 di. When my son was driving it stopped and he said the glow plug light came on. It stopped never to run again, wel not yet anyway. I`ve checked the obvious, fuel filter, fuel at the injectors (yes) and fuel in the tank is half full. It seems it will run a little with a sniff but not continue. I`ve been told it could be a crank sensor but will need a better code reader than the one I have got to pull any codes. I`m at a bit of a loss and any suggestions would be gratefully received. Can anyone help me please? Kind regards.

I have a Ford Transit 2007 petrol with gas conversion, lwb high top. I`ve only had it two weeks now and in the morning it starts fine but backfires. It sounds like it`s backfiring in the engine and not the exhaust, the engine warning light comes on but if I turn it off and start it again the light won’t be on. On the motorway both gas and petrol it seems to be down on power. On a flat run it will go about 70 or 80 if going downhill, but if I hit an incline the speed will slow to about 50. Also on gas and petrol there seems to be a lot of moisture coming from the exhaust. Please can anyone help? (145 t350 petrol)

I have a Ford Transit 2.4 DI Duratorq diesel. The head cracked so I bought a second hand one, had it skimmed and pressure tested. When re-building I inserted both cams and as soon as I tighten the cam casing both camshafts lock solid. I’ve tried all I know. I’ve cleaned and cleaned every journal but to no avail. Any ideas? Could this replacement head have warped journals from overheating on the previous engine? Cheers.

Has anyone been having problems with their Ford Transit`s fuel light coming on whether it has a full tank, half a tank, or no set amount of fuel in it? Plus the engine backfires too. They are Diesel engines and have only done 20,000 miles, we have a number of them and we are having problems with 4 in question. We are being told it’s dirty fuel from the supermarkets that our drivers use? However, our drivers are based in Kent, Portsmouth, Bristol and Southampton. Can anyone advise me? (280 model)

I went out in my Ford Transit van and the fuel light came on so I put diesel in and drove for a quarter of a mile and it cut out. I got it towed home. I was sure I had put diesel in, checked the fuel tank and it smelt like petrol. The mechanic said if it lights it`s petrol so I did that and it lit. I drained the tank and fitted a new filter but it would not start. I used Easystart and it`s trying to start but firing. Any suggestions what to do now please? Thanks.

I have just purchased a Ford Transit lwb van 2.5 di engine (smiley face model). It had been a good runner until one day it died, a complete loss of power to the engine. I don`t think it`s electrical as all electrics work that I know of. A new fuel filter was fitted and filled several times over to bleed and the van started and ran perfectly. After trying to start it over a week later it ran great for 3-4 minutes then the loss of power occured again. It needed full throttle to tick over then cut out and wouldn`t tick over. I don`t want to strip the fuel lines from tank to filter and filter to injectors if there may be a simple answer that I have missed. Any help will be very much appreciated. Any ideas please? (100 lwb)

I had a similar problem a few years ago on a 2.5 di. First remove the filter and see if it`s full of diesel, mine was only half full. If I manually filled it, it ran straight away but as soon as the filter ran low it stopped. After weeks of trying to get the fuel up to no avail I bought a second hand Cavalier long reach electric fuel pump and fitted that between the tank and fuel filter and wired it to the ignition and hey presto no more problems. Also the key fob that opens the front as well as the back and side doors isn`t working, but again I don`t know if this is because of a problem with the battery or some other problem because it`s been standing so long. I have a P reg Ford Transit van and I have to keep jump starting it, it works first time when I do that. I bought a new battery but that didn’t keep it`s power for very long, so I cut the thick negative cable just beside the battery and installed an isolation switch. I switch it off every time I stop somewhere. I did this because I thought that the battery could be draining, but it still did the same thing, insufficient battery power, so I took the battery back and it was renewed. The following morning I thought this could be my lucky day, but alas there was insufficient power. I found that the boy who changed the battery over hadn’t tightened the positive up properly, so I did that today 12th Feb. It was turning the engine over but not with gusto and I thought for a moment that it wouldn’t be able to do it. I was told that it could be the air filter. I`m clutching at straws now but to me it doesn’t look as though it has been taken off for some time. Now I am a bit surprised that the power steering bottle appears to be attached to that. Is it supposed to slide up off the metal and do you think that this could be my problem, as it runs fine in the warmer weather? Any suggesions please?
Answers
I had the same problem, new battery in winter would just start it in the morning, once it got going all day it would be fine, summer time no problem, next winter trouble, over a few years a few battery changes and countless RAC guys one told me it was the starter motor, it gets full of dust and crap and when cold the dust gets pretty solid and restricts the turning of the motor a change of motor problem solved. Hope this helps - Ray Clark from England
Take off all the leads, and clean them with emery cloth, then reattach same, if it works, then great, but if not check the starter motor leads for wear and chafing. Clean and reattach. Check the earth strap for same. I feel this could be damp realated. Also if it works better in warmer weather, check the oil viscosity. It may be that someone has put in the wrong oil, and in the cold it is harder to pump around and the battery needs more whoomph to turn it over - Paul Wigginton from Nottinghamshire

When driving my Ford Transit it suddenly loses power and goes into tickover. I can`t rev it, but if you switch off then back on it will run again. This is happening more and more now. What could it be?

I had a similar thing happen with my tdci Mondeo, which I understand has a similar engine. Try the map sensor to see if it’s working properly. On my Mondeo this was getting damp and shorting out, so I changed the map sensor and wd40’d all round and she runs like a good ’un. It sounds like it’s going into limp mode to me, then resetting when you turn it back on. If not this, then follow the handbook, or of course consult your local diagnostic chap! Hi. I’ve been having problems with my 56 plate Ford Transit accelerating. It`s the 2.2 duratorq turbo engine and is showing symptoms of fuel starvation. I recently fitted a new egr valve after problems with idling and that`s when the problems occurred. I have changed the fuel filter but there doesn’t seem to be much fuel getting to the filter to me, looking at the clear bulb at the top of the filter. It won`t accelerate at high revs and sometimes just completely loses power! There`s no smoke or temperature changes, I`m desperate for some advice! Any ideas?

This was fine and I was too busy to take it to the main dealer. Then wires came out of the green plug that goes into the decoder. After servicing my diesel Ford Transit it turned over then stopped and I could not get it to run. I called my breakdown who spent 1 hour using 2 cans of wd/easy start sprayed into the air filter, bled the injectors and finally he tried the starter motor great! I fitted a reconditioned starter (3 pin) but it`s still not firing and the immobilisor light on the dash is flashing very fast. I had a diagnostic done which cleared all faults but it`s still not starting. He said it`s gone into hibernation, the key does not recognise the engine and vica versa. Sorry buddy, I just had my Ford Transit van lose power and it was the bearings in my fan first then it was my diesel injector pump which cost $9000 brand new to replace as they are rare in Australia and $2000 for a recondition one and on once doing this the the engine went into limp mode and when tested at Ford it came up saying nearly 40 things wrong with it. It would have to be the worst vehicle I have bought, but when it was going it was a dream to drive but when something goes wrong make sure you have a big wallet full of cash as Ford Transit parts are not cheap in Australia. If you need parts buy online from England, they are heaps cheaper. My mechanic snapped the glow plugs on my Ford Transit trying to remove them, so he took the cylinder head off and drilled the plugs out. But after refitting the head he found that he had drilled it incorrectly as there was a lack of pressure and the tappets were knocking, so he had to fit a brand new cylinder head. Is this common or is it his fault for not drilling the old plugs out? Or is it down to me to pay for the new head? Thanks.

Hi all, I have a 2000 swb Ford Transit van and my power steering is gone. When it’s lifted on a jack it turns fine but otherwise it’s like turning a tank! I was running low of PS fluid and it was starting to become difficult to turn so I topped it up and it got worse! Does the wrong fluid affect it?

Absolutely the wrong type fluid will destroy the seals, you will have to at least change the power steering pump. And at worst also may have to change the rack, be sure to completely flush all contaminated steering fluid before replacing parts. My Ford Transit starts perfectly every morning, but if you go back to it after a few hours, nothing. If it`s towed or jump started I can get home, leave it for 12 hours and then it will start perfectly again. What’s draining the battery when it’s running? (2010)

Mine did the same as that where the bat cables are. It has little black box on it it will cut power to everthing. Check this and the starter motor drains power too as I had to fix mine. Hi. My Ford Transit 85 T280 starts on the button but runs roughly and smokes a lot which smells of diesel, I have tried swapping the injectors but still the same. I have since had a diagnostic check done which brought up 2 faults, P1665 ( Injection Pump Control Module Communications) and P1664 ( Injection Pump Control malfunction). Could anyone please tell me what I need to do to remedy these faults ie is a new fuel pump needed? Regards. (85 T280)
Answers
I would hazard a guess that it is either the control module on the rear of the fuel pump (its a solenoid valve that I think can be replaced) or most likely it will be one or all of the injectors that has seized or is sticky and the fuel pressure is leaking back down the return which will give a fault of "low fuel pressure". I would get the injectors flow tested in situ and see if its them, should take 30 mins and will not cost a lot. Usually you can just replace the injector, if they are the Delphi ones they can be anything from £180 for recon ones or £250+ for new!! Then they have to be "coded" to the ECU. I had to have 4 delphi injectors replaced and coded and it cost me just under a grand!! Jeremy Scott from Northamptonshire

Hi. I have a Ford Transit long wheel base motorhome. It`s immobiliser light on the dash is flashing after switching on. The engine`s turning well and fuel to the injectors looks good but it will not fire up on it`s own without any easy start. Could this be a fault on the key fob? There`s fuel to the top of the injector but it appears not to be going through the injectors and attomising Als. Hi. Mine has the same trouble. Just been to electro diesel. It’s very bad news. It is the diesel injection pump or should I say the solonoid. I had a long talk with the main man there and I have also had a diagnostic done. The faults will be the same as mine - "ignition timing fault injection control module requesting under fuelling" you can take it to Ford who have the kits for the solonoid repair and they will do it in situe but if your vehicle has never had a new injection pump and has done more than 120,000 then it is wiser to buy a new/refurb pump. A new pump will set you back £1300 but you will get £300 back on your old one or you can go online and get a refurb for around a grand but again you will get £300 back for your old one. I would advise you to replace the pump rather than having the kit if you want to be sure you have no more problems! The labour to fit differs as to where you go i.e. Ford charge £75 an hour and most reputable garages charge £50. It should be no more than £480 (a bit cheaper say 400 if they don’t have to cut the pipes off) for labour. I’m gutted too! Mike Corcoran from Dorset

Hi there I recently bought my second Ford Transit, it’s a mk7 2012. Had it 3 weeks, done 11,000km and same thing when clutching get this horrid like metal on metal dlllrrrrrrr noise and if sitting in neutral and rev upto say 2500 rpm and put clutch in same noise rings out. Now I haven’t got to the bottom of it yet but I know Toyota Hiaces do the same and on them its because the fingers on the pressure plate have bent causing the release bearing to skim the affected area. Now at the start it’s no emergency but left unfixed can wear through the fingers till they snap and that causes a few bad moments... Easy way to tell us to check fingers if it’s been happening there will be uneven wear on the affected area like a deeper grove from were the release bearing has retained contact over time not sure if this is the Trans-shits problem but is very similar in feel between the two - Ethan French from New Zealand

The brake servo pump failed on my Ford Transit which overheated and melted the vacuum pipe which supplies the brake servo unit. After replacing the vacuum pump and pipe we had the engine turning over for about 15 minutes. The vacuum was overheating and melted the supply pipe to the servo unit! We removed the vacuum pipe and found the outlet on the water pump was blocked with something hard. I’ve tried to hammer it out but it needs a bit more persuasion. This blockage is preventing oil from passing through and I think we may have to replace the water pump. I’ve no idea why this obstruction may have occurred. Has anyone else had a similar experience?

Hello. I own a Ford Transit T220 Connect van and am having trouble opening the bonnet. I just spent £130 on cutting a new key to see if this works as the original is very worn. However the lock will not release. I turn the key left but the catch does not release and I`m unable to lift the bonnet to the first position, but when I turn it right you can hear the lock turn, but as the lock has not released the bonnet cannot be opened. Any ideas?

Hi there. I have just had a head fitted to my Ford Transit and there was a bit of a problem in the garage getting it running. It turns out that it was blocked injectors or something like that. Anyway now that I have it back it hasn`t got the same power as it had before and the revs don`t really go up past 3500, it makes a sort of whining noise at high revs. I have found that when I stop and open the bonnet it sounds like air is trying to escape from the expansion tank and if I let the pressure out and put the cap back on it will run like normal on full power, but not for long then it`s back to running with a lot less power. Could this be an air lock in the coolant? If so would it also cause the noise and how do I fix it or does anyone have any other ideas? Thanks.

I have a 2001 long wheel base Ford Transit 2 litre diesel van. Sometimes the bolt has come out of the gear selector so I carry spares. This was never a bad issue until today when the bolt seared off inside the shaft. I took off the housings with the 2 cables on it and I got a friend to tow me to his workshop. When we started towing I noticed straight away that the van was in gear. I put my foot on the clutch because the selector was doing nothing with the gear stick but my friend is a bit deaf so, for about a mile, he was towing me with my foot on the clutch and beeping and flashing to get him to stop. When we stopped the van wasn’t in gear anymore. I don`t know if it just dropped out or if something broke. We couldn`t drill the bolt out in position as there wasn’t enough room so we took the selector out of the gearbox and drilled and taped the shaft. When we reassembled the selector into the gearbox everything went fine. I started the van and put it into first gear and took my foot off the clutch and nothing happened. I got a slight grind in second gear but now I have no gears. Can anyone help me with this? Any help will be greatly appreciated. (lwb 2litre diesel 250t)

We had a similar problem with our 06 plate Jumbo. It turned out that the rear wiring loom on the drivers side was frayed. The wires in the loom contain the locks and rear brake lights which often go to. Strip the back door if its ply linned and have a look at the wiring loom. This is a common problem on Jumbo’s as the doors swing right round against the side of the van. After a while the loom doesn’t retract and becomes caught in the door leading to it become frayed. If this is you’re problem then buy a new loom from Ford as finding a second hand one is like gold dust and you don’t know what you’re getting. Make sure to check the other side as well as we replaced both. Each side is about £90. Hope I’ve helped - Nicol from East Lothian (Haddingtonshire)

Had the same problem with mine, changed the engine oil (purely as I thought it needed a change) and the problem vanished. I don’t know if thick oil causes slow build up of oil pressure and the engine management system off loads the engine by not exciting the alternator and preventing revving until oil pressure is OK. Hi. I have recently purchased a Ford Transit 2.2tdci 57 plate with 77,000 miles. After about month it started hunting when idling. I was advised to change the fuel filter and it was better for a couple of days then went back to square one. Eventually it has now started to cut out a lot and sometimes will not start. I took it to the garage where they said it was a break in the fuel pipe from the filter. I replaced the pipe and it ran better for a day but now it’s worse than ever, cutting out all of the time. Does anybody have any ideas? (2.2tdci)
Answers
These are common for hunting on tick over, normally needs a new prv pressure relief valve, especially if it’s cutting out too. But you will also need a softwhare update called pcm. Unfortunatelly this can only be done by Ford. I found this out as I had to take it to them after I had a diesel specialist look at it, who told me the what the problem was. But he couldn’t fix as Ford only have the software. I would honestly put money on this being your problem - cost me £400 ROBBING MAIN DEALERS. Mark Bonser from England

The turbo went on my Ford Transit 2.0 T280 last year and revved itself, so got in and stalled it. I had it fixed but ever since then I have lots of smoke on start up from cold and a vibration in the cab but when it’s warm it runs and sounds perfect. I’ve had new injectors and still no joy. Can anyone please help? Thanks.
Answers
To stop your turbo from going, let the engine run for a minute or two after you have pulled up at your destination. It allows the engine to run for a preset time at idle to allow the turbo fan time to slow down and cool off while the bearing in the turbo charger is still receiving oil from the engine system. Otherwise, the engine would shut off with the turbo still hot and spinning, without the oil the bearing would overheat causing the little bit of residual oil to bake onto the bearing surfaces reducing turbo life - Rush Owens from England
I drove one of these and had the same problem, when I took it to the dealer, it had thrown a piston out the side of the engine. Apparently it was a problem with a batch of engines and Ford replaced the block under warranty - Rich the Hillbilly from Cornwall

Hi, I want to charge the battery in my Transit and to keep some power there to save my radio code etc. I’m going to use a donor battery with jump leads to clip on to my van’s battery leads whilst I carefully undo them from the battery, therefore maintaining power. My question is... Could I put the jump leads coming from the donor battery on to the vans +battery terminal under the bonnet instead, and put the earth against the bodywork?

Hi all, I have just bought a 350 lwb td van 2001, and my question is... My central locking isn’t working, the driver’s door sometimes works, but passenger, side and rear don’t. The bonnet lock isn’t there either, and I was told if I get that replaced it might complete a circuit, then they might all work. At present, whether I press the key fob or put key in the locks, you hear them all shut , then instantly they all click open again. Is there a fuse I could take out, so I could at least use the key in the locks without triggering the central locking response. Thanks for any help in advance.

It will come back to full height pressure intermittently, especially when I get back into town. I’m wondering whether this had anything to do with the engine revolution speed. I thought maybe it was just a bit of dirt in the fuel, but then a week later, it was the same again starting from cold. The engine sounded loud and rattling when it was revved up and again very sluggish to drive. This time it has not righted itself and is still playing up? Any advice would be appreciated. Cheers. (Transit 85 t280)

Have you tried having the fuel filter checked? - Evo Rut Saw from England
Hi there, have you got your Transit sorted yet? Is it 2.0L tdci or 2.4? Just out of experience, they do have a problem with the injectors going out of code and then delivering the wrong amount of fuel out of the injectors. It might be worth having them checked out as long as none of them are faulty. It is about an hour’s job to recode them but it must be done in the firing order - Ian Merrill from Lincolnshire
Hi, have you checked the oil? I would imagine that you have, it’s not a fuel problem, it is a coating fault. Your transit is a 2.2 di if I am correct, change the oil, flush the engine twice then replace the oil will a semi-synthetic oil not full synthetic then you will be ok. The only other thing that you can do is disconnect the battery or batteries, wait 10 minutes, reconnect and start her up. Keep away from dealers, you have us, no cost - Pauly Milburn from Yorkshire

What mileage do you change timing belt for a Ford Transit 280 SWB?

It has a chain, not a belt - Martin Jones from Essex
Hi, you only need to check the tension of the timing chain. It is always sensible to do this every 80,000 miles. It’s a simple job, even tightening the chain. Don’t be tempted to oil it or do anything else, it buggers develops an annoying rattle. Good luck - Pauly Milburn from Yorkshire

Why won’t my van start? I’ve had diagnostics done on it which came back fine, I’ve had the fuel filter changed, the ignition barrel changed, the starter motor taken out, cleaned and checked. I’ve also had the flywheel teeth cleaned and checked and the problem still persists. Could this be a problem with the fuel pump chip and if so can it be rechipped?

When you say it won’t start, is it turning over when you turn the key? - Martin Jones from Essex
Hi, that’s a lot of expense when you are trying to save money, keep away from dealers. Your problem is presumably that the engine turns over. Silly question, has the timing chain moved? Just check that it is in position or not slack. The fuel pump chip will be okay, the dino will have been obd 11 no faults found. Look at the engine fuse box for the engine management fuse. If it is okay, check the main fusebox for fuse 77 then look for the ECU fuse - Pauly Milburn from Yorkshire

Hi, the alarm on my Transit van goes off at night when the temperature drops. Any ideas why?

Yeah, thieves that work in the cold - Aka Blax from England
Hi. If it’s a factory fitted alarm, your sensors are worn out. They need to be replaced, these look like little grill covered tubes called ultrasonic sensors. One sends a radio wave, the other receives the wave. Your problem sounds to me like a battery drop, something draining the battery or another common fault is if you have a double under the driver’s seat. Find the voltage drop just look for the obvious. If your alarm is a non-Ford then it would be more likely again to be a voltage drop again. Find the drop, put a voltmeter on the battery then watch the voltage if it drops very slightly, there is a voltage drop check central door locking or interior lights. Now then if your alarm is battery, back up the battery in the unit, if worn that’s your fault. Kind regards - Pauly Milburn from Yorkshire

My Transit started to lose power while driving, it gets worse when climbing a hill. If I stop and park it for about 5 minutes, it will start to drive alright for another 10 miles before it start again. It was leaking a bit of water right in front of inlet manifold which was sorted out. There aren’t any more leaks but the power loss hasn’t stopped, what could be the problem? (2.0 DOHC Petrol)

I’m having problems trying to turn corners. The steering has gone stiff, what could it be?
Answers
Check the power steering fluid level. If that’s okay, check pump drive belt and tensioner, which is located g/box side of engine driven off the end of camshaft, the tensioner is the sprung loaded type which loses it’s tension over time and miles causing belt to slip when turning - Martin Jones from Essex
Hi, I would check the tyre pressures before anything else. The recomended tyre pressure is printed on the tyre if you have power steering then check the pump is turning and the belt is okay. Follow the pipes from the steering rack to the pump. If the fluid level is okay and the pump is working okay then the problem is your tyres. Check the tyres first, sounds like that is your fault. Kind regards - Pauly Milburn from Yorkshire

Every time I go downhill, my van stalls and is a swine to restart. Tonight I had to abandon the damn thing as the battery went flat, even with a jumpstart nothing happened. Could this be sludge from the tank? What can I do to get the damn thing going again. Will I have to drain the tank? If so, what is the procedure for restarting after draining?

My engine management light has come on. I noticed my oil was low so I topped it up, the light went off for a day or so, and then came back on. About a week ago, my van had been stood for a couple of weeks and the battery was flat, a friend jump started it, could this be the reason it is on?

Yes that would cause the fault, a simple obd 2 diagnostic hand-held unit will clear the fault. Also double check that there are no faults developed. Kind regards - Pauly Milburn from Yorkshire

PLEASE HELP! Van was working fine until one day, when I went out and it wouldn’t start. It gave the impression of a flat battery so I fully charged and everything was OK. I went shopping and came back to the van to find a flat battery, or so I thought, so I got my dad to come and jump me and drove for half a mile and the engine cut out. I got jumped again and the same thing happened again. Got home, fully re charged the battery again, and now no joy, it will NOT fire at all. Can anyone please help, I am aware it will need to go to a garage, I was just hoping for some ideas of what it could be.

If the van started after you charged the battery then some thing is draining the battery or it’s not being charged. I guess when you charge the battery you may have a cell going down so it appears to be charged. Try checking the alternator for output and maybe just get a new battery. Sounds strange, it starts when you charge the battery. I would start here, good luck - Andy Brown from Bedfordshire
