I was travelling along the motorway at 60mph and all of a sudden the engine just died. As if the plug had been pulled out. No warning, temperature was fine, timing chain is intact & hasn't moved etc. I coasted up the slip road tried to bump start on the way, until I came to a stop. The van would not restart. I initially thought it was diesel pump as I have had the electric stop wire on a mk2 transit go before. Same symptoms. Although everything is electrical nowadays. ECU is not showing any fault codes. The van will start with ethanol (Easy start) squirted up the air intake, but will not run on diesel, the water separator filter is full of diesel too. Is this the diesel pump or the ECU or something else? If it is the pump & I need to replace it, does the replacement pump need to be re coded to ECU also. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am snookered without my truck. Thanks Shaun.

Have you tried removing the front slam panel, headlights and grille? These unbolt and the front end comes off quite easily. This makes an near impossible task more do-able. Everything is still snuggly packed, but you may be able to get it out that way. worth a try. Hope this helps. Shaun from Leicestershire

you will have to remove the filter to fill it unless you can suck the fuel through with a primer, do not try and fill the filter by cranking the engine you can burn out the starter motor tony bellaby from Nottinghamshire

Just had a leisure battery with a split charger fitted at my home a couple of days ago, the van battery was nor removed. Went to start the van for the first time since the work was done and it is no show. The ignition light appears quite weak and "flickery" and the battery does not attempt to turn the starter motor. The new meter fitted shows both batteries are charged. I can confirm that the van did start first time every time up to this point. What do you think has gone wrong please. Thanks Bob.

Answers

It is the small wire harness that comes from the side of the alternator, it goes brittle and rubs against the bottom of the radiator, common fault. Approx £15 for a new harness section. Can be changed in less than 5 min as it`s just 2 plugs, just disconnect from alt by lying under the front of the van, no need to jack it up jim from North Lanarkshire

Hi, my 07 transit fwd vibrates when you hit approx 47mph. You feel it through the floor and pedals mostly and it makes a loud humming sound. It also does this when it's taken out of gear so I don't think it's engine or gears. It's also had new drive shafts and gearbox. New wheel bearings all round. New tyres. My mechanic has given up as he can't diagnose the problem. The vibration continues until you drop below 47 mph. Can you help?

Answers

Your problems are the same as mine! It shakes or shudders on pull off and under load and shakes at 48mph! Please help. I`ve changed drive shafts and brakes and tyres! What next? Peter Hellyar from Essex

hi just replaced the steering rack on my transit now the track control light is on also a light something to do with brakes on also airbag light on none of these lights were on prior to changing rack can any one tell me how to reset the lights thanks.

Answers

You have upset the ABS sensors to the wheels either nipping a wire or damaging the sensor, there could be a link with the airbag wiring behind the steering wheel, when the rack is off. It may look as though the steering can spin for a laugh but it wrecks the coil of wire which makes the steering wheel part of the air bag circuit. eric from Tyne and Wear
