My van is an ex Telecom lwb high roof 2.5ltr diesel. It was originally fitted wih a kitchen along the offside. It had a very nice bulkhead with central sliding door, it has a sliding side door. High security locks are fitted to the rear and side doors. There are two small flaps one each side, they measure approx. 150mm square, are 1.5m above the ground and are approx. 300mm from the rear. I have asked around but to no avail, nobody can tell me what they were for. I would be very grateful if someone can put my mind at rest?Cheers Norman

Can anyone help please ? Our ford transit progressively starts to lose power to lights, instrument panel after approx. 1 hour of constant running. Full power to these functions does return after a sufficient cool down period with engine off. All battery terminals have been clean and main ignition relay replaced, but same problem still occurs. Any assistance would be appreciated Mark

This is the gearchange selector bearing on top of the gearbox breaking up. It is totally fixable Ford may well tell you that you need a new selector body and they don't list the bearing and seal for your model.Cost £ 300 + The seal and bearing part nos are 1 065 929 and 6 152 850 they are off the earlier model and the bearing and seal is exactly the same and fit all See link below http://eucatparts.com/?action=cat_ford_part&s_id_part=14514&s_id_model=88 Change it before the bearing siezes it as then it is a real pain to disassemble as the balls have come out of their cage (which has also broken up) and the shaft then siezes in the housing which may split when trying to drift out the shaft, then a new selector unit will be rquired,,,, Also you may get stuck in 4th and 3rd and have to slip the clutch like mad....Not hard to do , pop off selector cables and aprox 6 or 7 10mm bolts best to do it with everything in neutral. parts come to @£15.00 Water gets past the seal and causes this, I always reassemble using purple water prrof grease never had any problems. mick from West Midlands

Your gear box selector turret has a bearing inside that is starting to seize up. It's about £15.00 for the parts but you need to find a confident mechanic to do it. Iv'e done loads dave from Bedfordshire

I have an '08 Transit and the problem with it is that it starts first time when it`s cold, but once the engine warms up the starter won't engage, so it won't start without a bump start. But if you leave it for a couple of hours until it`s cooled down again it goes first time. Is there possibly a heat shield missing?

Hi, i just bought a ford transit luton and it runs very sluggishly especially up the hill. I can only go up the hill in second gear and on a level road it only goes up to 50 m/h. I have been to 3 different garages (paying diagnostic charges as i go) and none is giving me a definitive answer to the problem. the latest garage reckons it's the speedo, as that isn't working. I was also told it could be the bearings. Any ideas? thanks

Answers

Hi John, similar problem with my VW Transit. After searching through many forums it seems the most likely problem is the fuel pump metering valve. Read a long forum and the poor chap tried many mechanics and nothing worked until he replaced the valve and all was well. He said it had never run better. I'm going to the mechanic with this advice I hope it works for both of us. Joe from Australia

Thank you very much Joe. I'll take it down to the mechanic. Hope it fixes the issue because it's driving me crazy. john nkoh from Yorkshire

hi ,I have a transit sapphire ,4years old,42300 miles on the clock.been serviced every year by ford garage, but the past couple of weeks the power steering has been sticking in the mornings, then freeing itself after about 30 seconds. Two days ago it was in for its 4year service and second mot so I mentioned this to the garage.i was not very happy when they told me there was swarfe in the fluid and that it will need a new steering rack Pas pump, new resivoir ,flush out and new fluid.because it is out of warranty using non ford parts will cost £722 ,usIng ford parts will cost over a grand!when I questioned why this has happened after only four years and with such low mileage they could not give me answer .i said it has got to be some kind of manufacturing fault but they would not comment, has anyone had a similar fault? Or does anyone know of any recalls for this problem.do you think at such low mileage this problem would occur ,any suggestions would Help thanks rob

My Transit will sometimes lose the ignition lights when I turn on the ignition. They come on briefly then stay off. When this happens I also lose the wipers, heater, all dials and electric windows. The van will still start and run ok then eventually it returns to normal. There doesn't seem to be any pattern but suspect it could be related to water/damp ingress somewhere. Has anyone got an idea? Many thanks
