My Mondeo Estate starts and runs fine but then for no reason it starts to run lumpy and smoke excessively. When you stop and the car is idling, if you rev the engine you can`t see the road behind you for smoke and it sounds as if it`s mis-firing. I was told to change the diesel filter first and if no better to go to the engine management heat sensor. Can anyone help? (diesel)

A warning light comes on my Ford Mondeo Estate’s dashboard if I accelerate moderately quickly in 1st or brake quickly, and when I take a corner that creates any lean to the car. Is it a problem with suspension/wheel alignment or something else? Can the problem be diagnosed with diagnostic testing equipment? Do you know if I’m looking at a big bill? (tdci)
Answers
Your brake fluid level must be low mate - Richard from England
You can have an OBD test ran on the car to see if there is a problem with your emission control system. But any kind of alignment or suspension problem is gonna have to be looked at by a mechanic to determine if there is something wrong that would cause that. I haven’t heard of anything like this before, but if you are turning a corner and a light is coming on your dash it could be several problems or it could be something simple. If you have an anti lock break system then you may just need to service your anti lock breaks... What kinda light is on is a service engine soon, an oil light, a break light a batt light, I wish you the best in finding out and I also would be interested in knowing what the problem is... wish I could help but that is all I can think of at the moment - Janelle from United States of America

The electric windows were working OK until my battery went flat. Now the driver’s window will lower with one press of the button but I have to hold it down continuously to raise it. What might have gone wrong? (TDCi Ghia)

Do you have the owners manual for the car? I’m sure you have to reprogram the one shot window opening function using your key fob when your battery goes flat or is disconnected. If you haven’t got the manual let me know and I’ll see if I can dig ours out - Alicia R from Worcestershire
It will tell you in the handbook how to reset power windows after power loss - Martin Jones from Essex
Whenever the battery is disconnected (or goes flat), the windows need recalibrating. See here for details on how to do this: http://www.fordwiki.co.uk/index.php?title=One_Touch_Window_Reset - Peter from England

Hi there, my Ford Mondeo Estate is just out of the garage after its MOT and service. Fan belt (I presume) had been screeching at me for the first 5 minutes of every journey made so I asked them to take a look for me while it was in. Car back and working fine with no screeching but there is a faint "buzzing" or "humming" noise now coming from under the bonnet. Only happens when in gear and frequency increases when accelerating. Is this normal and will it stop on its own or should I give the garage a call? Cheers! (1.8 TD)

Hi every one, first of all please excuse my bad English. Have a problem with my Ford Mondeo, it can barely reach 62 mph or 100 km. It went for a Ford service and put it under the tester and they said the load sensor on the injection pump doesn’t work. As I arrived home, ready to buy a new one, I disassembled it and reached the conclusion that it wasn’t put in place properly. After mounting it in place the car still won’t go beyond 62 mph and any slope cuts its acceleration completely. I also had the airflow meter checked and it works properly. My question to anyone who could know is what else should I check, considering the symptoms are the following: Once in 5 gear or even 4 the engine stops pulling and barely reaches 100 km/h, the same could be said of the pulling strength of the car overall as it lacks any force. Many thanks in advance...

My car has just developed an intermittent fault with the indicators \ hazard lights. It occurs both indicating left and right. The indicators flash once the stop. After a short while they may work again. Any suggestions? (ST24 V6 Petrol)

After a small shunt I have found that on each headlight, the lower plastic bracket into which the headlight retaining pin slides has been broken (about 10mm square of plastic box section). The repairer says that both xenon headlights will have to be replaced at a cost of around £1000! Otherwise the headlights are undamaged. Q!: Is this necessary? Q2 can I fit the less expensive halogen lights, without having wiring/computer management systems implication?

I would leave it if they are secure enough or if you’ve got the broken bits, superglue them back on the headlamps or try cable ties. Failing that see if you can get second hand, 24/7 spares is a good website - Martin Jones from Essex

You will lose your radio settings and when reconnected you will need to re-insert the factory code if you are on a Ford radio. The car will have no power once the battery is removed until it is reconnected. Remember to take the Negative (Earth) off first - Rob Barnes from Essex

Hi I have no problem with the performance of the engine/car but at my garage, they took off the oil cap whilst the engine was running and they said there was too much pressure coming out, suggesting the engine could seize anytime! I felt the pressure with my hand which I could feel and also see slight smoke pumping out. I thought this was normal? They suggested pistons are no good and should have an engine rebuild! Arghhhhhh! My car runs fine, it has done 113miles (diesel engine) Thanks.

You will get some pressure and a little smoke with oil cap off. If your piston rings were away, you would get lots of black smoke coming out of the exhaust. P.S engine would only seize if no or very little oil in engine - Ian C from Renfrewshire
