Hi guys. I have just bought a ford 1.6 TDCI trend 2016 model. The car has literally got 13733 km on the clock that iv driven from new. When I pull away from a stop whether it's uphill, downhill or on flat road the car makes a whining noise as if you are opening a gate that is rusty at the hinge. Once I slowly start moving the noise goes and that's the end of the story but whenever I stop and go again the noise comes back. Almost like a whooping clutch or something to that effect. The car isn't even due for the first service and this noise appears. Please tell me it's something small.

I had a problem with water leakage and steam blasting from the water tank whilst driving. The themostat and some sort of sensor was changed and my car is now running fine but for some reason the water lights are all flashing the engine light is on and so is the warning light. Do you think it may just need reseting at a garage? Thanks

The radio/cassette has stopped working since yesterday and also the buzzer letting you know if the lights are on when stopped. We have just had it repaired when all the lights on the left hand side wouldn't work including the hazard lights. My husband thinks it may be a fuse but we cannot find any thing about it in the hand book

My fan heater is only working on number 4 any help please

Answers

If your heater sustem is otherwise working fine.. i.e. hot and cold, but your blower will only respond to OFf and Full blast then you probably have a defective speed control resistor... or the connector plug to is is deteriorated. Many people have this issue and change the whole of the blower at great expense and a lot of work, when a resistor is always much cheaper and nearly always easier tto fit. Had this prob with my Citroen Relay and removed the resistor.. found the multiplug to it had one defective connection.. removed, cleaned and reattached connections and it now works fine.. turns out my resistor was good anyway.. cost.. I have just had a complete replacement of my exhaust system completed by ATS Glasgow, about 2 weeks after the work had been completed. I noticed a rumbling sound. I took it back to ATS and they changed the back box but it has made no difference. I was told by the technician the sound was coming from the engine and I most probably had a hole in one of the rubber pipes. I have checked the vehicle, I can;t find any holes in any pipes. The car just passes the M.O.T. and I asked the mechanic as i thought it may be the H.T. leads. He said it would have been picked up on the M.O.T if there had been a problem. The car still sounds like it has a hole in the exhaust. Anyone, any ideas? (Ford Fiesta Finesse MK 5 2004) Thanks J.K.

1996 1.1 petrol. recent new clutch and rear brake shoes. Been running fine. Took it to Cardiff and journey fine. Running around town no problems. Journey home to Bournemouth; extreme lack of power on hills. Down through gears etc. Down to 10mph. Seems ok on flat. Could the new clutch be slipping or the new rear shoes getting hot due to binding?

Hi,when I first start my car in the morning,it struggles to start and thick white smoke comes out of the exhaust.once I have revved the car it's ok,runs fine and had more problems.do I have a serious problem?

Answers

Many vehicles throw out white smoke on first starting.. and your perception of THICK WHITE SMOKE may not be the same as someone else's.. in other words, it may appear to be a lot to you, but may be perfectly normal. One indicator that it may just be normal is that you say when you rev.. it goes. Have you checked the coolant level? Excessive white smoke can be indicator that coolant is getting into cylinders.. and over time you'd see the coolant level dropping significantly (some vehicles do seem to lose coolant with no obvious leaks). At the moment from the way you present your question, I'd not be too concerned about the white smoke unless you are losing a lot of coolant as well. The struggling to start may need a look at.. but it could be something simple like a service needed, battery may need changing, connections to starter may need a clean.. What you could try for a quick test is putting fuel additive in the tank as per instructions on bottle.. it may be that the fuel delivery system could do with a bit of flush. R Evans from Caerphilly
