Hi. The charger socket (aka. Cigarette lighter) stopped working, I replaced the fuse behind the the glove compartment but it still doesn't, I've located another fuse near the engine but it's not clear how to open it & as it's plastic I'm concerned ill break it, obviously I'm hoping once this fuse is replaced it will work. Also my horn only works when it feels like it, I'm hoping it's just a conection problem & understand it's located near the inside of the bumper but I can't locate it. Any help/suggestion will be appreciated. Thanks. David

Hi I pulled out of the garrage last night, not after filling up tho, I accelerated into 2nd gear and picked up speed all of a sudden I felt a clunking noise and my car started to die, I heard the system slowing down and then the car told me the steering system has failed, I think this was because the car was stopping. I could not start it back when I did try to start it felt like my whole engine was shaking, I walk home quickly to get help to push it of the main road. By the time I reached back to my car which would have been about 15minutes, I tried to start my car and it started, it felt a lilttle loose when I was driving it home but no management light on or any thing. Recently my car has been jumping out of gear when I am waiting at the traffic lights etc. please could you help with any advise of what may be causing this to happen, kind regards Julie .

While replacing the nearside front window regulator I released the lock assembly (central locking) and started to ease it and the regulator out of the door panel. As I was doing this, a piece of high density foam "packing", about the size of a box of Swan Vesta matches, fell out. The foam is precisely cut with varying thicknesses and angles incorporated into it. Haynes Manual makes no mention of this and I have no idea where it came from. Can anyone help me on this please?

Hi there, I recently purchased a 1997 fiesta 1300i. I travel weekly and noticed that when I come to a standstill or when braking, the engine dies. Once I start-up again then its normal. When I rev the egine to about 4000rpm, the engine dies as well. I've checked the throttle sensor and cleaned the idling control valve, any advice on what the problem might be? Thanks in advance. Its the 1300i endura efi engine.

My wife's car seems to have an intermittent starting fault. It's a 2007 model with approx 90000 miles FSH and due it's next service in a couple of weeks. On a number of occasions she has driven the car to town only to find when she returns to the car and try's to start it again it fails. On one occasion she called me to it and I couldn't start it either was turning over fine but not firing. I left it a while and phoned to get it recovered I then tried it one more time whilst waiting for RAC after about 20 mins and it then started. No warning lights flash up and temp whilst driving is normal. No issues when driving and car is used daily with fault happening about 8 times now. The fault has only happened shortly after car is driven she states that it always starts again if she then leaves it 20-30 mins . We have taken it to a local garage but they said as the car starts fine with no fault codes then they can't fix it until it develops the fault again. The car will be going for a service end of this month I am hoping someone may have come across a similar fault before so I can pass info on to garage when it goes in so we can get it sorted. Any info appreciated.

Answers

We appear to have the same problem on our 2011 fiesta zetec. Try turning the air conditioning off which should stop the fan coming on when you startup and during driving. This will hopefully stop the clicking. Martin baybutt from Lancashire

Hi all, Have a nightware with my 2001 ford fiesta 1.25 zetec se ghia 5 door i bought the car as a non-runneras the previous owner over filled it with oil and he hadn't servided it in 2years either so i saved the poor motor haha :) now ive done a full service - spark plugs, oil, oil filter, pollen filter, air filter, full coolant change. Car was running great then i found the Brake master cyclinder was leaking brake fluid so i fixed that then i start the car again and everything when bad now the car is mis-firing, choking, shaking, water like liquid coming out the exhaust and the revs are bouncing even when idle in neutral and i can not control the revs onlys at 4,000 and the engine management light is flashing on and off randomly and i mean RANDOMLY like sometimes when i start up the car or sometimes when i have it running idle for a while. Now i'm a 3rd year apprentice mechanic so i buy and sell cars to help my low income. Now i've checked the coil and plugs there all sparking the leads are carring current fine theres no rips or corrosion on the leads or coil pack. When i first got the car it did have the engine management light on and the code was PO420 i cant remeber it was catalytic convertor treshold something anyway i didn't have alot of money so i went against my gut and bought a bottle of cataclean it was meant to fix the problem with the catalytic convertor and turn of the engine light but to my surprize it worked 100% amd done everything it said it would do ! anyway any advice or experience in what my problem may be ? i'm thinking trottle body/ mass air flow meter or EGR Valve ? thanks

2007 Ford Fiesta 3dr Trend 1.6 TDCi - car wouldn't start after diesel pump was replaced, diagnosed as compression issue, head was re-conditioned. The issue now is with the head bolts. The engineer who worked on the head recommended that new head bolts are purchased as the head had been skimmed and the current ones might be too long. Discrepancies in information from spares shops and Ford dealers about correct length. Current 147.5mm but nobody seems to have that length in documentation. Block was replaced a few years ago after engine ceased, can't get any history on changes. I need to find out what the correct length is, where to get the bolts and also the torque settings which nobody can agree on either. Thank you.

Answers

Hi there Morne... As far as the length of the bolts being too long, that a whole lot of rubbish. I'm a 04 model 1.6i 16v 3door trend fiest owner. I redid my cylinder head and block myself. If the head was machined, there is absolutely no way the bolts can be to long. Common sense would tell you, if the bolts are to long it means the head isn't sucure on the block which would cause a severe amount of oil all over the block. I recommend you have a look at your exhaust valves. (Compression loss) I hope I've helped. Regards Brett S.A Durban Brett from South Africa

Ford Fiesta

Good day all... Just want to find something out, I redid my complete motor. Its a 2004 fiesta 1.6i 16v. I did rings bearings, resleeved the bores on the block also did a rebore to 20thou. I decided on changing the valves. But when I changed them, I noticed that the top of the exhaust valves were like 2mm shorter than the original ones. I put them in still. Now when I set the timing to tdc and started the motor up, I'm getting a lifter noise coming from the head. To my knowledge perhaps the camshafts are hitting the lifters against the top of the valves making that lifter noise? As the lifters aren't hydraulic. They solid. A response would be greatly appreciated as I need to know the steps to resolve this problem. Kind Regards... Brett SOUTH AFRICA

my car is a 60plate only brought it last Friday from Bristol street motors. I love my car and its so nice to drive. I was just going to pick my mom up from work and all I did was pull over to let a car go passed on my estate, then I pulled off in first gear then all of a sudden it started to rev really loud. I pulled over, put my hand break on while it was still sounding loud and turned off the engine. then I turned it back on and it was still doing it. I ran back up the road got my sisters boyfriend he came and had a look. he turned it back on and it was fine. it seemed like there was nothing wrong with it. why was it doing this?
