I have found that third gear is difficult to engage when my Ford C-MAX is cold and on long runs the car is slow off the mark and the engine light comes on. Next time the starting cycle begins again when the engine light comes on it resets itself after a few ignition cycles. Does anyone have any ideas? (1.8 petrol)

I replaced my Ford C-MAX`s passenger side wiper blade after the old one was damaged from vandalism, but the blade is still not fully clearing the screen of water in the central area of the sweep. The blade is sitting fully on the screen at rest. Can anyone help please?

My Ford C-MAX`s central locking works okay on the four doors but the tailgate does not work properly. It comes open slightly when driving and it has to be forced shut again before the remote works. When my daughter uses it she finds this difficult to do as it takes brute strength to achieve. When I first got the car the tailgate opened when all doors were unlocked but now just works when you use the tailgate button on the remote. Has anyone got the same problem and is it easily rectified?

I cannot gain entry to my Ford C-MAX. The fobs will not open the doors. What could the problem be?

Answers

I assume the key operates all doors when the key is turned in the drivers door? Then - if you’re sure that the batteries in the fobs are OK. It is likely to be the remote receiver at fault - this is a common error on the Focus. If you can find the receiver unit, then disconnect it for five minutes or so before reconnecting. If not, then do the same with the fuse that feeds it (Sorry, I can’t tell you where it is or what fuse protects it). After this, you might need to re-teach it your fobs. This is easy, and is documented in the owners handbook - Steve from England

Ford dealers have a ’software’ fix they can apply to the car’s computer to fix this. This is a very common fault apparently. Just make a call to your local Ford dealer and they’ll do it under warranty - Paul Twomey from England

Hi. No ignition lights on my Ford C-MAX and not switching on. My mechanic has had the clock cluster out and sent it off for inspection at a specialists and it has been returned with no faults found. When the cluster is disconnected the lights, electric windows, horn etc work. Yet when he reconnects the cluster they only the sidelights work? The dials on the clocks indicate approximately 500 rpm and approximately 10 mph. Also the outside temperature reads as -60C. He has had the diagnostic reader plugged in and it reads so much then stops to prevent over-current??? He has had the battery disconnected in a bid to reset the clocks etc but still the same. Any guidance much appreciated. (2-litre TDCI Zetec)

Today whilst driving the C-Max the power steering failed - the steering wheel was extremely heavy and the ABS battery and engine lights all come on. Could anyone please give some advice to what the problem might be.

Answers

Rachael, I must stress I’m not a mechanic but the same thing happened to me a couple of weeks ago. The alternator needed replacing because it wasn’t charging the battery. Therefore the battery couldn’t power all the electrics in the car hence no power steering etc - James from Nottinghamshire

Hi, can someone please help? 2 questions really, my 2004 Ford CMAX 1.8 petrol keeps spluttering now and again. I’ve had the plugs changed and also the crank sensor changed as I keep getting, every now and then, the red warning break light which looks like little cranks around it. When this light comes on the car loses power, so I have to pull over and turn the engine off and then restart it for this light to go out. Can you please advise why it keeps spluttering and losing power when you put your foot down and why this light keeps coming on? Thank you.

Why does the air con button always come on when I start up my Ford C-MAX?

Answers

It is defaulted in the "on" position because most people were not switching it on often enough to get the oil lubricant, which is mixed with the coolant gas, to circulate around the bearings and vanes so the pumps would frequently seize up if not used for a long time, causing fan belt to break. It’s best to use it even in winter as it freezes out pollution from the incoming air before being heated up again. These pollutants, smoke etc are discharged in the water under the car when it defrosts after you have parked. So you get nice air conditioned air inside the car to breathe, even in winter - Noel Hargood from Berkshire

Hi, I have a problem with the first time start of the day with my Ford C-MAX Zetec 2-litre diesel.
