My Fiat Stilo`s heater/fan has stopped working completely. Can anyone advise me on how to get to the motor or sort out the problem as I can`t seem to locate where the heater/fan motor is? Someone said that it might be the pollen filter, but I am clueless as to where it is. I have tried the car manual but that is no help at all. I am freezing in my car and dread driving when it`s raining because it mists up inside the car because there is no air circulation. Can anyone please help me? (1.6 Dynamic 16 valve 5 door)

I need to change the spark plugs on my Fiat Stilo but the dealers don`t have the exact type which I’m using, currently on NGK - BKR5EKC but there is only BKR5EIX-11 to change, meaning the spark gap is 1.1mm and not my old plugs 0.8mm. Can these plugs still be used or should I pay extra to get the originals mailed to me? Thank You. (2.4 M.Schumi)

I recently replaced the EGR valve on my Fiat Stilo and now it gives me an error "check glow plug". The battery is new and we even disconnected the battery for a few minutes and then zeroed the error message once everything was fixed. The message is still there and appears only when the car is cold in the morning. The glow plug signal flashes about 3-4 times after the car starts and at the same time the dashboard says "check glow plug". The mechanic checked each plug and he says that they are all fine and work perfectly. He thinks it’s the ECU because the error message on the diagnostic tool would say so. However, the car runs perfectly and gives no other problems. Has this happened to anyone else? (Multijet 1.9cc 120HP)

My Fiat Stilo would not start yesterday. I have previously had no problems or warning lights appear on the dashboard. I jumpstarted the car but it is not holding it`s charge. The volt meter is reading over 14 but this did not increase on revving the engine. I charged the battery fully overnight to get it started but later in the day it was dead again and now I have the engine warning light on. Has the alternator gone? (1.6 Dynamique.)

Hi. After driving my Fiat Stilo through a puddle I parked my car up for the night, but after about 20 minutes I heard the car trying to start up on it`s own without any any keys in the ignition. It kept turning over until the starter motor burned out. I had a new starter fitted by a friend but when it was connected it started to turn again on it`s own. We then found that the fuse box in the engine bay was full of water and must have been making a connection, so I had the fuse box replaced. However, now the car turns over fine on the key but it won`t start. I would be grateful for any help please? Thanks.

I have a problem with my Fiat Stilo 1.4. It has a 6 speed box and it started to jump out of third gear. I took it to a gearbox place and he said synchro in gear box so we left it with them and when we picked it up, within 5 minutes of driving it, it started to pop out of third gear again and he said must be the cable, but which one? We got money back so need advice. I got told there are 2 cables, one does side to side, other does up and down. Can you help, thanks.

We recently changed the catalyst in our Fiat Stilo, although I don’t believe that to be connected to the fault we are now experiencing, perhaps it can help you understand it. Other than that we had our engine replaced shortly after we purchased the car. Because our retailer managed to replace the timing belt but with much to loose tension. We’ve had only problem after problem and the one big problem we have now, after about £1,000 repairs, is that the engine fault light blinks, and say "beep beep beep" over and over and over again. The car seems to work fine, just the beeping and the flashing of "Engine fault". We have no idea what it means and would prefer not going back to the garage and pay even more money we don’t have just to find out. If you can help, I would be forever grateful. Thank you in advance. Hi there, Did I you try "autoadaptation"? You need to start your car on handbreak without touching the clutch pedal and leave it to get his temp (90 degree) then 3-4 times press the exeleration pedal till 6k for 2-3 sec. Should help - Damian Golebiewski from England

This Stilo has a nasty habit of flashing ASR-failure and at the same time the engine stops. You can restart it again immediately. Also - and I don’t know if these problems are related - when idling, the revs start going up, then down until it stops. There’s no pattern that I can see: It may run for a week and then have two or more engine stops on one day. It’s been to the garage but they can’t fix it and don’t know where to look. Any ideas, please? (1.6)

The headlights on my 03 plate Fiat Stilo Abarth keep switching themselves on randomly, leading to constant flat battery. Garage say I need a new on board computer costing 450 pounds. Will this fix the problem as I don’t want to pay out this money if it doesn’t.

The central dial for the heater fan control in my car is broken. It’s the one with the power setting numbers 1 2 3 and 4 just above it. I took away the plastic dash piece covering all three dials for the heating control and saw that the dial that was broken was only connected to some wires coming through from the engine. Is it possible to simply buy a new dial unit on its own? As it is possible for me to replace it myself...

Hi, I have Fiat Stilo Abarth 2.4 (2003). The battery went flat and a very (un)helpful person tried to charge the battery from their car but put the leads on wrong and everything went bang! Got new battery, new fuse and battery and it now works. But... Nothing apart from the engine works. Have replaced the fuses for heaters and connect system (f52 and f53 I think) but still doesn’t work. I have a frozen 3 year old in the back of the car. Any help would be appreciated very much. Thanks.

I am no expert on these cars but many have "main" fuses as well as the fuses you see inside the passenger compartment. Sounds like one or more of these fuses has/have gone. The other fuse box could be inside the engine compartment. I suspect if you still have the fuses your replaced they hadn’t blown, you should see a wavy strip of metal inside the plastic housing: this would confirm there is another reason for the heater blower not working - Tony from Leicestershire

Where are the spark plugs located on a 1.4-litre 2005 Fiat Stilo?
Answers
There are four thick cables on top of your motor. Every one of them are high voltage cables. They will lead you to your spark plugs. When you change them, please do it with original plugs - Miki Miki from Serbia

My 1.2-litre Fiat Stilo seems to be misfiring. How should I go about resolving this problem?
Answers
Check spark plugs, they might need replacing - Alan Murphy from Ireland
You probably have a faulty ignition coil (the long black part you pull out to get to the spark plug). To check which one is at fault, you pull one out and the engine should start to vibrate worse than what it was (if it is misfiring in your case). Do this for each one (work from the left coil to the right or vice versa) until you pull out the one that makes no difference to engine vibration - this will be the one at fault. Replace it as soon as possible so as to prevent any other problems occurring with the exhaust system or catalytic converter. If none of the coils are at fault then check your spark plugs - check the gap against that of the vehicle specification - 1.2 Stilo I believe is 1.5mm. If that’s fine and the coils are fine then I’d suggest changing the spark plugs because if your coils are fine then they are receiving voltage. This is as far as my knowledge goes for the ignition system, anything beyond this would be a garage job I’m sure anyway - Mark Thompson from Renfrewshire

Hi, the battery went flat on my Stilo 1.9 jtd at woodhall service station on the M1. I rang the AA and when they eventually arrived, he did a battery test which showed that the battery was u/s. He jumpstarted the car but now the power steering has failed I read on the Fiat forum that you should not attempt to jumpstart this model as it causes the engine to shut down to stop any damage to it. If this is correct what do I do to get the power steering working again? I have put a new battery on but I still have the same problem.
Answers
I had exactly the same thing happen to me and had to have the steering column replaced. Luckily I had bought an extended warranty and it was covered. The roadside assistance denied all responsibility and said it was a known problem. Research found that you should never jumpstart this car but use one of the controlled devices that mimic a battery (don’t know what they are called) and have surge protection - Phil Morris from England

I have had problems with my Stilo flat battery for the last week. The garage has fitted a new battery but something is draining it. It has been in the garage today, the mechanic said it was the fan that was staying on when the engine was switched off. He has fitted a new sender and has disconnected the fan and told me to get an auto electrician. The electrician is not too keen to work on a Stilo. Is it OK to drive it? The garage says it will be OK until the weather gets warmer. Can you help please, I thought putting it on the computer told you what was wrong with it... evidently not.

For the 1.9 JTD Stilo: Take out battery and battery box, jack up car and support, remove wheel and inner wing (easy to do), open light cluster box by disengaging one clip, replace light bulb from under the wheel arch. Have replaced 4 so far on my left hand drive 1.9 jtd stilo, (always seems to be one where the battery removal is required). I can replace bulb in approximately 1hr 20 mins. Having said that, recently replaced the near side (LHD) and had to move the screen wash bottle out of the way, less than 1 hour to replace - Brian Hall from Spain
I started to replace the bulb and got the old one out, but could not get the fixing to snap tight on the new bulb. Gave up, went to Halfords, and they would not touch it, so went to garage. It did seem to me that the battery needed removing, but that’s a lot of work if they keep going. I think I had 1 go approx every 10K miles - Steele Peter from Berkshire
I changed my bulbs recently on my 1.2 Stilo Active without battery removal. I simply removed the arch cover over the front wheel by unscrewing the 5 or 6 screws that hold it in. You will need to turn the wheel fully left or right to access all the screws. Once the cover is removed from inside the wheel arch, turn the steering fully right and you will have access to the light cluster from below while lying on the ground and reaching up through the wheel arch. I would also recommend having a good torch or other light available which will make seeing what you are doing much easier - Paul from Ireland
