Bought my panda today but cant seem to open the rear passenger doors from the outside when the car is unlocked but i can open from them from the inside the handles are permanently pushed in so the red dot is showing.is there any solution for this problem

Answers

Take the car back to the dealer and tell them to fix it. Since 2012 a car will fail an MOT if any of the passenger doors cannot be opened from the outside when unlocked and therefore it is effectively unroadworthy. If they refuse to fix it go to Trading Standards. Mick from Portugal

I would like to know if this car came with factory fitted ABS brakes

Answers

New cars registered for sale in the EU since 2004 were required to have ABS fitted. Fiat still listed ABS as an option eg on the Punto during the early part of 2004. Hugh from City of Glasgow

My 2004 fiat Panda 1.1 has trouble starting first thing. A couple of times now the engine will start but get louder and louder (like it's going to explode) and then just cut out. Then I am usually able to start it after a couple of goes. There are also some electrical problems as the lights flicker, indicator goes double the speed and the stereo loses power and then switches back on when I bang the dashboard. The windows seem to fog in between drives, even when no one is in there and sometimes water will be dripping off the inside of the windscreen. Not sure whether these things are related but just wondered if anyone knows how serious this is and if it's going to be an expensive repair as I need it for work. Thanks!

In Greece, have a Fiat Panda 4 x 4 Climbing. 8 years old. When I drive it sometimes the Dualdrive electric power steering failure light comes on. I have to pull over, turn off the engine and then it doesn't happen again. I thought it was something I was doing wrong, but it has happened when steering as well as just going along in a straight line. It doesn't happen when my husband drives it, so it must be something I am doing wrong, but we cannot figure it out. It doesn't happen when we are in the car together!

My panda loses the clock settings after starting the car when it's very cold - also after starting the car all the dashboard lights come on again and then go off is this a battery issue.

Answers

Just bought a panda. 2008 have the same problem. maria.chandler@ntlworld.com from West Yorkshire

Its the battery. The clock resets because the batter voltage drops when cranking, more so when the weather is cold. The battery may last ages yet so its nothing to worry about if you can put up with the clock being wrong. A tired battery can also cause the steering warning light to come on at start up jim from Essex

My 2016 reg fiat pop has the same throttle response identical to many other fiat owners reports. I have returned it to the dealer who told me the diagnostic report did not show a problem and it would improve when it had learned my driving habits. Personally i can't believe this can be true and I would like to know if anyone has been given the same story and if so how many miles do I need to do before the problem goes away ?

Answers

Hi Don I have a Fiat Panda Pop, bought new Dec 2014 & have the same problem as you describe. there is a delay in the throttle response on setting off from stationary, or try to reverse up hill and I smell the clutch burning! I've been back to the dealers several times and had the same reply as you, the diagnostic reports show nothing. I have been told (by one of their mechanics) that there is a problem, but because Panda owners havent made much noise about the problem they wont do anything about it! Is this a responsible reply from Fiat? Not in my book! The Panda uses the same engine as the Fiat 500, there were lots of complaints about the 500, so much so it was featured on a motoring show on TV, so Fiat sorted it. Perhaps we Panda owners should begin to make a fuss!! Sherryl Butcher from South Yorkshire

Dear Sir/Madam, When the engine is warm on my Fiat Panda 1.1 Active Eco (2010), the engine tickover tends to run very fast as if the accelerator is sticking although a sticking accelerator is not the case. This is a problem I have had to put up with since the car was new and neither the main dealer or Fiat seemed able to get to the bottom of it. Fiat claimed that the problem lay with the engine bay wiring loom (whatever that is) and replaced it under warranty. The vehicle is now six years old and has 101000 miles on the clock. I have only just started using the Internet this year and am still learning about using a computer and so it is only now I can find sights and start asking questions. I have discovered by surfing the "Net" that possibly the problem with my vehicle may lie with the Lamda or Oxygen Sensors. If anybody could give me any feedback on this problem it would be much appreciated as I love the car itself. Thank You, Dave. ,

All good for 6 months and a holiday in france then same again, snail mode diagnosed as throttle sensor but after garage had a look they think the ecu is knackered, any ideas? Steve, new forest.

I have a panda pop 1.2. The manual says the full beam headlight position is putting the light switch towards the dash board. However I don't have this option! And it seems full beam position is towards the driver! My first drive home at night, was pretty freaky for the other drivers,as in flicking on full beam I inadvertently set the 'overtaking indicator' off as well. It's seems to me to be a very awkward way system. Has any body else found this problem. I'm guessing it's something you get used to.

My Fiat Panda dynamic multijet 1.2 L diesel was Ok this morning but now there is an intermittent fault where the electric front windows will not work and the steering is extremely hard - no power assistance - which makes it impossible to drive safely. When the power is switched off and then back on, the car is fine but suddenly the fault re-occurs and if driving, is very dangerous as it is extremely hard to steer. I have checked all the engine compartment fuses and they are all OK. (I think that it is an electrical fault). The handbook does not list any fuses associated with steering. Any ideas?

Answers

I have no answer, but my power steering motor in my car is also busy going and they quoted me R 28,000 to fix.. I think its definetly a manufactoring problem so why should I have to pay for this.. Its 2007 and only has R47,825 on the clock.. Annoyed Tarryn from South Africa

I have overcome this same problem with steering in 3 different pandas I own. I picked this tip up on another thread somewhere a few years ago and it works. Replace the original battery with a higher amphour and current rating. I.e. 50ah and 300 to 400 CCA. This has saved me a fortune in not having to replace steering parts. The fault lies in 2 small relays in the electric power steering unit which do not like a low battery voltage dip. You just need to work a bit at getting the right physical size of battery and if need be to make adjustments to get it to fit. But really easy. Aidan from Antrim

Hi. Can my central locking on my Panda Pop be upgraded to a remote central locking. Many thanks x

Answers

You can buy an aftermarket box off eBay and fit it. Wiring is fairly easy but you will need to feed a wire to the drivers side door lock. It's been a long time since I did it on my wife's car but I think I also had to buy a new door lock with electronic solenoid. The standard lock way only mechanical not electronic. The box triggers the solenoid on the drivers side which triggers all the other doors Geoff Marchant from Lincolnshire

I bought a 2006 Fiat Panda Dynamic Auto from a friend. It had failed the MOT due to both 'front Macpherson struts have excessive movement in the upper support bearing assembly (2.5.B.1b)'. When I drove the car there was quite a clunk to be heard from the front of the car from time to time. I removed each strut and replaced the top bearing assembly (the old ones did not seem damaged). When the strut was refitted there was about 2 cm of thread showing at the top of the strut. Originally there was about 1 cm of thread showing so I assume the nuts had slackened off. However I still get the clunk when I drive the car! Any ideas gratetfully received.

Answers

Two points:- that caused our clunking sounds A and B. Read the bottom for an obscure Fiat Panda clunking sound. We bought a 2007 Fiat Panda Semiautomatic in 2014 with 12,000 miles on it. It now has 31000 miles on it. Aside from standard service items & a failing original car battery & rear silencer in 2015 & replacing two of the original tyres... the only problem that this Fiat Panda has had in 10 years has been a failing front left shock absorber. (A) The shock absorber clonk :- We were 'on it' since first detecting the damp patch around the shock absorber. The leaking fluid (dripping slowly over time) eventually could be felt. We had a new shock absorber ready to fit by now. The final throws of the old one produces 'clunking' as the car bottoms or tops out on its suspension stops (as the shock absorber didnt work now), and the wheel flaps around. If the resistance/damping in the shock absorber is wrong; the Fiat clonks easily. (B) The obscure sound unconnected with the above shock absorber, but can happen on any newer from 2004 onwards Fiat Pandas, and presumably the new 500's. I regularly drive on a beach where I live in the New Forest. The beach is a mixed composite beach including shingle. Sometimes the traction is difficult on the beach berms, small shingle in places; and wheel spinning and grounding out does happen. The car developed a clonk; that sometimes was under steering, or braking or acceleration or bumps in the road. In fact when I discovered what it was eventually....it turned out to be 2 or 3 different clonks that sounded the same. That is why we had some under braking, and some under steering etc. But they all sounded the same. It turns out that on the Fiat Panda the points where the sub frame connects to the body, has orifices just the right size to accept stones and shingle of a wide range size that has been 'thrown' into the hole. Whilst ours were 'taken on board ' by beach driving; it could happen with any driving eg tracks, or even just stones on the road thrown up into the underside of the car, at specific points. Once inside the hole(s) , the stone(s) can not really get themselves out. The stones are trapped; like a stone in a funnel. the stones sit in a channel. And this channel has a moveable engine or steering bush in it (depending on the hole). The lower engine mounting on a rubber bush allows movement of the engine. This movement either closed or opened up the hole where the stone was resting. The grinding clonk/crunch was the engine weight loading up the stone, as it was impeding the rubber bushes flex. The grind or clonk was when the stone gave way, like a wedge; and jumped. The stone on metal resonated in the subframe architecture acting like a drum. Resulting in short sharp clonk. There were also stones in the steering rack joints doing the same thing. Hence we got the same noise from different stones rubbing/crushing against the steering mechanism or subframe and engine mounts. Solution was car up on ramps or jacks......torch....to look in the subframe/steering holes.....and a long tough screw driver to push and force the stones out. It was only when I went to specifically check the engine and subframe mounting bushes.....that I saw the hidden stones. Wedged in tight. It may not be the reason for the clonk on your car.....but it maybe on any Fiat Panda. Once you have experienced this particular clonk , you will always look in your subframe/mounting points first to rule it out. Mike from Hampshire

I have recently passed my driving test (older learner!) and have a 65 plate 1.2 Panda Pop. I mainly drive around town but will hit the motorway to get to work. I am hitting about 70mph but my revs are at 4500. Now I am pretty much a car novice but this seems a bit high when listening to other car owners. Is this about right or is something wrong - could be my driving?!

Answers

Hi, 4500 rpm is high....the 1.2 pop has 5 gears, are you using 5 the gear? That should drop you just under 4000 rpm in a panda, I used to have a cinquecento 1.1 that pegged 4000 at 70 in 5th......good luck... James from Greater Manchester

1.2 petrol yes....1242cc? It should be 3000rpm at 70mph in 5th gear. From my memory 4th gear at 3000rpm is around 54 mph, so multiplying that up for your road speed iit suggests you are in 4th gear. Mike from Hampshire

Unfortunately it seems there's an issue with one of the ignition coils and the ECU. Its not a cheap fix. Your car mechanic will confirm that they will both have to be replaced at the same time as a faulty coil can spike the ecu. It's a common fault for your car. Costa from Bristol

My Fiat Panda has just recently opted to display the flashing yellow engine management light, in particular when slowing down to 2nd gear and accelerating again. the light doesn't stay on long, but is causing concern. What could be the problem and how do I fix it?

Answers

According to the manual almost anything can be the cause! I had my check engine light come on and I opened and closed the petrol cap (as suggested) and that cleared it - but constant light coming on will need to be checked by a computer diagnostic test at a garage I think. Naomi from West Sussex
