I’m getting fumes in the cabin of my Fiat Grande Punto unless I have the air re circ on. Can anyone think of a solution? (1.3 multijet (90hp)
Answers
This is almost certainly a split in the rubber breather pipe underneath the air cleaner. Remove the air cleaner (4 or 5 bolts, all easily visible from top and lift out noting the position of the two pipes underneath it.. The thick rubber breather pipe is the one you will need to replace. My main dealer told me what to do when I asked about the awful burnt oil smell invading the cabin. It seems to be a common fault and new pipe was about £12. I then had to steam clean the upholstery to get rid of the lingering smell - Nigel Carr from Cumberland

My Fiat Grande Punto`s monitor shows "the fuel pump cut off" and the car doesn’t start anymore. Is there any way to restart the fuel pump and make it work again? I also need to know where is the airbag`s fuse? Thanks. (1.4)

My Fiat Grande Punto`s offside headlight won’t turn on but the fuse doesn’t appear to have blown. What else could be causing the light not to come on?

My Fiat Grande Punto started fine from cold. I drove about 5 miles, turned the car off and now it won’t start. There’s plenty of fuel and its getting from the pump through the filter. Any thoughts? (1.3 diesel 90bhp)

Hi. I have a 19 jtd Grande Punto and need to when cam belt is due? Can anyone tell me.

I think they are recommended at around 72k but depending on how its been looked after. Some people have them changed as low as 40k. The longer it’s left, the more risk of it going wrong, but if the car is looked after well I would hang on till the major service - Colin from Suffolk

The rear wiper has decided to just stop working. The fuse seems OK (believed to be the 15 amp one in back of glove box?). Any advise? Thanks in advance.

Tried to wind the rear passenger window down, something clicked, and the window now has to be pushed up, and falls down again whist driving. Someone told me it was the regulator, this is nearly £200 from Fiat! Part cannot be bought from anywhere else. I hardly use the back windows, it’s bad it should go so soon.

Does anyone know why my Fiat Grande Punto smells of fumes when the dimister is on and the engine is warming up?
Answers
Hi, mine smells a bit as the previous owner didn’t fill the oil very well and poured some over the engine, only does this when not on recirculate and warm. I will get round to cleaning it soon, thanks - Tim Page from England

When driving my Fiat Grande Punto I pressed the brake and head a click. Now, when I press the brake it does not retract and has a hissing sound when I pump it then it goes hard. What do you think this signifies?

The second-hand Fiat Punto (2006) I recently bought gives me trouble whenever I shift gears from D to R or vice versa. The car stalls and give a message saying "depress brake pedal and re-start operations". I need to change the gears several times before finally it shifts properly. Until then its stuck in N mode. Please advise.

The ABS warning light on my Grande Punto has come on. I’ve checked the brake fluid and it is OK. Is it still safe to drive as I can’t afford to repair it at present and I need to drive to work?

I’ve noticed that recently, when I’m waiting at traffic lights or any at any point idle and have the air vents open, I have noticed that there is a strong smell of petrol coming through. Can anyone tell me if they have had the same problems and how to sort this out? Thank you.
Answers
I would have it checked without hesitation as you sound like you have a leak under the bonnet - Johnny Darby from Devon
It’s the breather pipe from the rocker cover to the carb - Clifford Rainey from Swansea
It isn’t petrol, the engine breather pipe has perished. It is easy to change, located at the top of the engine beneath the air cleaner (you can see one end connected to the left side just opposite the oil filler). New genuine part is not expensive and is improved material - Ray Veal from Warwickshire
I had the same problem last year and it turned the extractor hose needed replaced, it’s not an expensive job. Hope this helps - Julie Thompson from County Down

Does anybody know how to get at the bulbs behind the heater controls that are below the radio on a Fiat Grande Punto? (1.3 90bhp diesel)
Answers
You need to put the double pins into the holes on the front of the radio to release the radio, take the radio out, disconnect the wires on the back of the radio. There are three screws you have to take out to remove the bracket that holds the radio. When you have done that, the front of the heater controls are just held in with small plastic clips. You need to press very gently to release it, they can break it, you are not careful but it is easy if you take your time - Sandy Harris from Dumbartonshire

Hi there! I bought this car last November and haven’t had any problems with it until 2 days ago... I was out at work when all of my warning lights came on and stayed on. My petrol was flashing orange and empty (yet i filled up that morning) and my radio turned off then on with a message which I think said "camchange!". Any suggestions on what it is? I had it serviced 3 weeks ago and they said there was nothing wrong with my cam belt or car? Any ideas?
Answers
I had the same problem six months ago and again two days ago. My friend who is a mechanic told me to check the fuses(located passenger side of the engine top). There was a little moisture there, dried it off, checked all fuses and it works fine. It has only happened when it was high winds and driving rain for some reason. Failing that you may need a software update - Mick Flores from Scotland

The boot release from the dash does not work while the boot release from the key still work. Would changing the dash switch panel solve the problem or it is cabling from the panel to the solenoid that is causing it? Thanks. (1.4 3 door)

This is my daughter’s car. The driver’s door does not close. The car has had at least 5 new handles on what we know of. After fitting a new handle, it works for a week or two weeks then it fails to close. What an advert for Fiat to tie the driver’s door with tape or string. Maybe some trouble shooter from Fiat could explain to me why. Many thanks - 01263 713904. (1.4 petrol)

I had the same problem with my 2006 Punto Grande. It was not the handle that was the problem but the lock mechanism on the door. I had to readjust the lock catch by adjusting the two screws, line it up and close the door. It took a few attempts but now it works fine. Oh yeah, and a few squirts of WD40 in the lock helps as well - Mick Flores from Scotland

I was hit by another car a day ago and I was very shocked by the two airbags blowing with no reason. After this very little tiny crash, I can’t use my seatbelt anymore so is there any possibility I can unlock the seat belt again and use it normally or not?
Answers
Hi, you can use your seatbelt again, you just have to remove seatbelt from car and free off the pretentioner. We did this with a screwdriver - Danny Lindop from Lincolnshire

How do you get the offside rear light assembly off to change the indicator bulb?
Answers
1. Open tailgate. 2. Look at light cluster at rear. 3. You’ll see two Phillips screws in black plastic to the right or left depending on which cluster is going to be removed. 4. After you’ve removed the two screws, cluster can be safely removed. Take care when removing as there is a water seal behind which can come off with the cluster so be aware! 5. Disconnect the trailing wires 6. Unclip the inner cluster, housing using the two clips. 7. Replace your bulb. 8. Job’s a good ’un, when replacing ensure foam water seal is in place around opening in bodywork or your light cluster will fill with water when it rains! Cheers! - Darrel Sutherland from England
